Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte says he might follow Russia and withdraw from the International Criminal Court (ICC), citing criticism from Western nations for a rash of killings unleashed by his war on drugs. Duterte described the ICC as "useless" and expressed frustration about the West's allegations of extrajudicial killings and its failure to understand his crackdown on narcotics. He also appeared to blame the United Nations for failing to prevent wars all over the world. So as you know the situation in our universities is still very difficult. In Durban this morning students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal threw burning mattresses out of their residence. Two weeks ago, at the Durban University of Technology, one student died in a scuffle with security guards - at Wits University in technology, students refused to leave one area in protest against conditions there. Into the middle of all of this last year, stepped Professor Mamokgheti Phakeng. She was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. Since then she has been speaking to students, and trying to look at some of these problems, but she also has a particular interest in Maths education. I'm pleased to tell you she joins me now. He says that Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordan is currently locked in a marathon meeting with Eskom management in a bid to deal with the crisis.
