Nissan VC-Turbo engine optimizes power and efficiency

Nissan's VC-Turbo engine offers any compression ratio between 8:1 (for high performance) and 14:1 (for high efficiency). The engine delivers 248 horsepower @ 5,600 rpm and 273 lb-ft of torque @ 4,000 rpm (premium fuel). The VC-Turbo's specific power output is higher than many competing turbocharged gasoline engines and comes close to the performance of some V6 gasoline engines. The unit's single-scroll turbo ensures immediate accelerator responses on demand. Along with the world's first multi-link system, the engine features an electric motor with a unique Harmonic Drive reduction gear to manage the variable compression ratio. The electric motor is connected to the Harmonic Drive with a control arm. As the Harmonic Drive rotates, the control shaft at the base of the engine rotates, moving the multi-link system within the engine. In their first-ever collaboration, Nissan and Italdesign have created a new prototype car – the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign, which could become the blueprint for a limited run of 50 hand-built production vehicles. The prototype is a celebration of two golden anniversaries: 50 years of the GT-R, in 2019, and 50 years of Italdesign, in 2018. The car combines the best of two cultures – Japanese performance and Italian craftsmanship. The prototype was built with pride and dedication by Italdesign craftsmen at their workshop in Turin, Italy. Italdesign is one of the world’s leading carrozzeria, or coachbuilders. It provides a wide range of services dedicated to the development of new vehicles and industrial products, ranging from styling to engineering and from prototype manufacturing to testing and validation. “Underneath its design, it hides something unique and very special” Federico Ferrero, head of special vehicles at Italdesign, says of the GT-R50. “It’s the knowledge and the hands of skilled men, who’ve been building cars for decades, that brought the concept and its challenging and unique design to reality.” Based on the latest GT-R NISMO, the Nissan GT-R50 features a pronounced power bulge on the hood, a lowered roofline, and prominent “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels. The stretched LED headlights and the floating tail lights evoke the GT-R’s iconic signature. The GT-R50’s interior features extensive use of two different carbon fiber finishes across the center console, instrument panel and door linings, along with black Alcantara and fine black Italian leather on the seats. The gold accents used within the interior echo the exterior, giving it an elegant but sporty look, says GT-R50 workshop team leader Stefano D’Araio. Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign debuts in Tokyo

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign made its first public appearance in Tokyo on September 23, Sunday. Continuing on its world tour, the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign made its way to the home of the GT-R in Tokyo – for its first reveal at Daikanyama T-site for a “Morning Cruise” event with media, Nissan GT-R enthusiasts and automobile fans. Nissan also brought from its heritage collection, the 1996 NISMO GT-R LM BCNR33 and the 1972 Skyline 2000GT-R Racing Concept (KPGC110). GT-R owners in Japan also came in full force filling up the parking lots at the event. With 70 years of EV heritage, built on the legacy of Prince Motors, Nissan's goal is to bring the benefits of EV to more people in more places. In 1947, the company succeeded in creating a prototype 2-seater truck (500kg load capacity) with a 4.5hp motor and a new body design. It was named "Tama" after the area where it was produced. Its top speed was 34km/h. Next, they created their first passenger car: with 2 doors and seating for 4, it boasted a top speed of 35km/h and a cruising range of 65km on a single charge. While much has changed, in design and technology, since the Tama's debut, many of the same features and benefits remain and seen in the new Nissan LEAF. HANNOVER, Germany – Nissan today unveiled the out-of-this-world Nissan Navara Dark Sky Concept at the 2018 Hannover Motor Show, proving that the sky is never the limit. Developed in the UK in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the concept vehicle functions as a mobile astronomy lab, featuring a world-leading, observatory-class telescope on a bespoke off-road trailer. As the latest embodiment of Nissan Intelligent Mobility, the vehicle comes with ProPILOT driver assistance technology, which has been upgraded to make it the most capable pickup for safe and convenient towing. ESA is mapping the stars with unprecedented precision using the Gaia satellite, which has already observed more than a billion stars. The Nissan Navara Dark Sky Concept supports this project by helping astronomers conduct follow-up observations of the universe from hard-to-reach, so-called "dark sky" locations – away from the nighttime glow of urban areas, which decreases visibility. Datsun GO Production at Chennai Plant

The Datsun GO will begin production at the Renault Nissan Alliance plant near Chennai starting February 4, 2014, heralding the introduction of the brand to the Indian market. Datsun GO premiered last July in Delhi, and is a modern five-door, five-seat hatchback conceived to offer accessible transport to aspirational, rising Indian families. Oragadam is the first factory in the world to start production of the new generation of Datsun models, and will be followed by local production in other markets such as Indonesia and Russia later this year.

Nissan and DeNA introduces Easy Ride, a future robo-vehicle mobility service

Easy Ride is envisioned as a mobility service for anyone who wants to travel freely to their destination of choice in a robo-vehicle. Nissan and DeNA will begin a field test of Easy Ride, the robo-vehicle mobility service being developed by both companies from March in Yokohama, Japan. The field test will enable Nissan and DeNA to learn from the experience of operating the Easy Ride service trial with public participation, as both companies look toward future commercial endeavors. Nissan and DeNA will also work to develop service designs for driverless environments, expanded service routes, vehicle distribution logic, pick-up/drop-off processes and multilingual support. The companies aim to launch Easy Ride in a limited environment at first, and then introduce a full service in the early 2020s. With customers able to discover new local destinations, the companies expect Easy Ride will also help energize cities and neighborhoods. Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign continues world tour, confirms production design

Nissan has confirmed the production design of the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign – the ultimate expression of the GT-R – and has opened the official order books for the 50-vehicle limited run. Nissan collaborated with Turin, Italy-based Italdesign to create the model, based on the latest Nissan GT-R NISMO, in commemoration of the 50th anniversaries of the GT-R in 2019 and Italdesign in 2018. While the prototype vehicle was finished in a special gray with gold accents, customers will be able to specify their preferred color combinations for the production version. They also will be able to choose interior colors and packages. In addition to Goodwood, the GT-R50 prototype has made appearances at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in the U.S. and Nissan Crossing in Tokyo’s Ginza district. It will be on display at the Nissan Gallery in Yokohama from Dec. 7. Nissan LEAF Owner Turns 100,000 Gas Free Commuting Miles

SEATTLE (Dec. 19, 2013) -- Steve Marsh just watched his odometer hit 100,000 miles on his all-electric Nissan LEAF. He has had the car since May of 2011. "I have saved over $9,000 driving my LEAF compared to my previous car that got 30 miles to the gallon. And I have not had to burn 3,000 gallons of gasoline," said Marsh. Washington State Governor Jay Inslee congratulated Marsh at a specially scheduled press conference on his accomplishment and made him Washingtonian of the Day. The Governor also announced his plans to expand the state's electrical corridor to the east and west.

Combining the ultimate in traditional hospitality with Nissan’s autonomous driving technology, one Japanese inn is treating guests to some unusual amenities: self-parking slippers, tables and floor cushions. At first glance, the ProPILOT Park Ryokan looks like any other traditional Japanese inn, or ryokan. Slippers are neatly lined up at the foyer, where guests remove their shoes. Tatami rooms are furnished with low tables and floor cushions for sitting. What sets this ryokan apart is that the slippers, tables and cushions are rigged with a special version of Nissan’s ProPILOT Park autonomous parking technology. When not in use, they automatically return to their designated spots at the push of a button. First introduced in the all-new Nissan LEAF in Japan in October 2017, ProPILOT Park detects surrounding objects and lets drivers automatically park the vehicle in a selected parking space by pressing a button. The same technology is being used in the amenities at the ProPILOT Park Ryokan during a demonstration to entertain guests and reduce staff workload.
