How to Make Herbal Body Scrubs (Vanilla Mint Honey Scrub)

01:59
Find ingredients here: http://www.mountainroseherbs.com This body scrub is so easy to make and smells amazing. Great for arms and legs! It leaves your skin feeling refreshed but not too minty as the soft vanilla bean aroma lightly perfumes your skin. Honey is a luxurious ingredient that helps moisturize, nourish, and protect the skin with its antioxidant, antimicrobial, and humectant properties. In fact, I love to use honey alone as a face mask several times a month. Salt is a bit more detoxifying and exfoliating for rough skin, while sugar is great for more delicate and sensitive skin. If you're collecting recipes for this year's herbal handmade holiday gifts, this one will be perfect for the vanilla lovers out there. With the salt (or sugar), honey, essential oil, and vanilla extract all acting as preservatives, it lasts a very long time. I've kept this in my bathroom cabinet for several months without a problem. I always use a clean spoon rather than my fingers to help keep bacteria out. You will probably use it up before it goes bad though! Enjoy! ~~External Use Only~~~ Ingredients 1 cup fine sea salt or fine organic sugar 1/2 cup organic sunflower or sweet almond oil 1/4 cup raw organic honey 1 organic vanilla bean, split and scraped 10 drops organic peppermint essential oil 1 tsp organic vanilla extract (optional) Directions Mix the salt or sugar with the oil, scraped vanilla bean pulp, and honey. Add essential oil and stir. If too oily, add more salt or sugar until you reach the desired grainy paste consistency. Scoop into a jar with the split vanilla bean on the bottom for a decorative touch and screw the lid on tight. Use a tablespoon of scrub at a time and rub the paste in your palms until loosened. Gently massage into wet skin and rinse after 2-5 minutes. Your skin will feel exfoliated and moisturized!

Taste of Herbs: Astragalus Chai Recipe

09:55
http://tasteofherbs.com Astragalus chai tea boasts the powerful immuno-supportive benefits of sweet herbs like astragalus and codonopsis alongside the delicious pungent spices of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and pepper. RECIPE printed below... Because chai takes about an hour of simmering I love making chai tea on the wood stove. Very energy efficient!   For those of you without a wood stove you might prefer using a crock pot for this chai. Simply put all the ingredients in a crock pot and leave it on low overnight. You'll wake to the spicy warm smells of chai tea.  What you'll need... 10-15 small slices astragalus root 2 tablespoons of codonopsis root 2 tablespoons of ginger root 2 tablespoons dried orange peel 1 tablespoon of cinnamon chips 1 teaspoon of peppercorns 1-2 cardamom pods 3-5 allspice berries 1/4 teaspoon of cloves (about 3-5 cloves) 1 and 1/2 quarts of water Place all the ingredients in a pan. Bring to a boil. Simmer for one hour. Strain. Add milk and honey if desired. Written by Rosalee de la Foret, for TasteOfHerbs.com, by LearningHerbs and Mountain Rose Herbs. © LearningHerbs

Herbal Folklore: Linden by Guido Masé

06:47
(https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/linden-leaf-and-flower/profile) This is a very sacred and important tree in the land of the Ladins, the native inhabitants of the Dolomite region who have been living there, with an intact tradition, since before Roman times. In valleys such as the Val Gardena they still craft beautiful, intricate sculptures from linden wood. But the tree, which we know as a calming, soothing nervine that makes perhaps one of the most delicious teas imaginable, gets the most respect for being a tree of good counsel and calm judgement – as well as having a reputation for growing quite easily from root and branch cuttings. Prolific and soothing, a wealth of craft and magic – this is a tree we all should get to know well.
