Rescue of the Green Lily

06:24
A retelling of the heroic rescue of the Green Lily by the crew of Lerwick Lifeboat Station. Coxswain Hewitt Clark received a Gold Medal and his crew Bronze Medals, for their role. Tragically, Coastguard winchman Bill Deacon, who was swept from the deck by a huge wave after rescuing ten people, died in the rescue. The RNLI has recognised his courage with a posthumous Thanks on Vellum, with a joint Vellum also going to the remainder of the aircraft’s crew. Footage from the Coastguard, STV and Lerwick Lifeboat Station.

IMCA SEL 038 Mooring incidents

12:14
Mooring vessels is a routine, day to day operation familiar to most crew members. But familiarity can breed contempt and sometimes, seemingly ordinary, routine jobs don't get the full focus of attention they should and there are accidents, some of them very serious indeed. This IMCA video has been developed to help raise awareness of the need for safety awareness in mooring practice. It covers some real mooring incidents and explains how things went wrong and how things can be done in the correct way. It explains some important principles for safe mooring, including planning, communication, the proper use of PPE when at work on deck, and a full understanding of hazards such as bights and rope, and danger zones such as snap back zones and potential pinch points. Vessels moor and cast off every day. It's such a familiar, standard procedure that the temptation may be to treat it more lightly than other operations. Careful planning, risk assessments, good communications and a constant awareness of what's around you can all help to make the job safer for everyone concerned.

Six Months At Sea In The Merchant Marine

22:05
In this short documentary, I tried to answer some of the common questions that I usually get about shipping. The footage I took myself using fairly basic cameras that I could fit in my pocket while I was on the job as a deckhand. The story follows me on a six month journey around the world on a container ship which was on a run between New York and Singapore via the Suez Canal. This was my first time going to sea on a large ship so everything was relatively new to me, therefore please excuse the couple of shipping terms I misused (such as saying "license" when I should have said "credential"). I have been on many ships since and will continue to ship out for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching. How Maritime Law is controlled by organizations, flag states and port states

06:12
This video will explain simple and in short the correlation between maritime rules and regulations, the international organizations as IMO and ILO, the flag states, the classification societies. Next to the role of these organization, all their different kind of auditors, inspectors and surveyors will be mentioned shortly. On the website: http:www.maritime-mea.com the video is divided into 8 subjects with an explanation for each on a different page. The IMO main tasks are to organise conventions and look after the ratification by her members. Another task of the IMO is to publish the conventions. The Maritime Labour Convention MLC is by origin from the ILO but organized by the IMO. Class Societies started in 1760 and are mandatory by the Solas. Nowadays there are 50 different societies and only 12 are forming the IACS, the International Association of Class Societies. The IACS publish their common rules but also their common interpretations of the different regulations. A class societies has their own set of rules about construction, maintenance and inspections. A class surveyor can perform surveys for the class and inspections and audits for the flag. The conventions via IMO like Solas, Marpol and Loadline are the minimum standard on a ship. The first who will add are the the Regions like EU ( e.g. wheel mark ). The flag will add regulations for example extra life suits. The class Society will add next to their technical rules also regulations about CO2 bottles, fire extinguishers etcetera. Also the owner and ship management will have requirements, about operation, maintenance, ISM, ISPS, MLC. The Region and Flag State mainly have auditors. Often the class surveyor act as inspector next to his task as surveyor. The surveyor can also have an accreditation as ISM, ISPS auditor and/or as a MLC inspector. Those auditors can also be directly from the flag state. The port state officer will inspect ships in their port on basis of the IMO conventions like SOLAS, MARPOL... The port state is the quality control of the IMO and check 'randomly' ships. The port state is the organization who can hold a ship. Every ship have different insurances like damage to hull and equipment, damage to cargo and insurance for oil spills. Vetting is invented by oil companies as a quality tool for their chartered ships and crew.

NEBOSH qualifications are widely known to people in the safety industry. Transcribe of this Video Hi Guys This is Raj from Safety Experts Academy I'm sure you guys out there being challenge , your working, your trying to provide to your family and the same time it is very hard you don't have time opportunity to your self You do, you want to fail the exam because it is how worth money as well as the time , because I see a lot of people taking exam The first things your going to do any exam and in passing the exam The people who are unsuccessful they always say they don't know how to do it and just stop and give up. They fail before taking the exam and because they assume that they don't know . The successful people the other hand they don't know something they go find out and they going to read and understand . Dont know , ask and how they do it. They digest and so the difference successful and unsuccessful people. The person who doesn't know stop is unsuccessful and the person who doesn't know and go to find out become successful The second thing to understand unsuccessful people, when they think of certain things , I dont have the money for e-learning and the time to study and they stop. The successful people the same both at you but they took a chance and can make time . Go something else and go study and make that time. Dont invest the money , invest first and invest your cost . Make your effort and do it Dont get assume and you always be there . Now its turn to put yourself in the advance position . Make it happen The last thing you need; Unsuccessful says that I am not a smart and I cant do that . I am not type kind of person and stop. The successful people they find clue make them good in that and become someone good at that . They just dont they stop . The successful people , know the secret . And hope you improve . The next thing that you need to understand are the Keys to success Heart and Hard work- You need to have the dedication to go through . You want to achieve something have heart and put in the hard work You need to be OPEN live give you lesson everywhere and does your mentor and teachers everywhere and open enough to find out . You need to be open enough You need to LISTEN . When someone taking to you or training you When someone outside is trying to show you the ladder listen , give them sometime . Listen to them and what they have to say .. How they can help you advance your career. You need to FOCUS. A lot of time people be are unproductive because at work they thinking about play and where at play . They thinking and I done something and ask what am I'm doing . so neither they working well or playing well. So at work and studying for exam . Studies and don't be distracted by friends , work and don't do anything else. MINDSET - you got to have a positive mind set and here is the thing I learn. even you fail fail forward , you need to have a mind set in a positive way . Just get it done and get time to study . I need time to study. Have a positive mind set ASK don't ask the people . ask people who has been there and ask people how do I get there \what do I need to do . how do I need to overcome this situation ASK they realize they answers . When ASK they give you on what to do and the priority . This are the way that you can pass your exam and made that investment . Dont waste that money . Your family is waiting for your success.

Dutch Barge Sea Crossing Safety Checks

03:36
It is hoped this will help you to stay safe. Your barge has probably been working the inland waterways for many years and now you are asking it to cross over the sea in rougher conditions. If you fail to get your fuel tanks cleaned there is a considerable chance that when your vessel starts to pitch and roll about in the swell the sludge which has resided for many years unmoved in the fuel tanks will explode into a thick goo that will block your filters and can even be thick enough to block the delivery pipe... Do not cut back on this area of your barges pre-sea crossing service as you not only endanger your barge but also the lives of the people on board. Stay safe and spend the money to have them cleaned out... Also see https://youtu.be/OuKcIFogh48 I hope you find this helpful. To contact Keith http://www.ngmarine.co.uk/
