Rescue of the Green Lily

06:24
A retelling of the heroic rescue of the Green Lily by the crew of Lerwick Lifeboat Station. Coxswain Hewitt Clark received a Gold Medal and his crew Bronze Medals, for their role. Tragically, Coastguard winchman Bill Deacon, who was swept from the deck by a huge wave after rescuing ten people, died in the rescue. The RNLI has recognised his courage with a posthumous Thanks on Vellum, with a joint Vellum also going to the remainder of the aircraft’s crew. Footage from the Coastguard, STV and Lerwick Lifeboat Station.

10 GIANT Abandoned Ships !

10:08
From strange and mysterious cruise ships, to the biggest oil tankers in the world; these are 10 GIANT Abandoned Ships ! HEY YOU ! There are more awesome videos being made every week, like and subscribe to World Unearthed so you don't miss a beat ! 5.Temple Hall Finding information on this shipwreck was harder than I thought ! Built in 1954, the Temple Hall changed many owners during its years of operation. On a voyage from San Pedro to Thessaloniki, the ship was stuck between a rock and a hard wave so to say. Bad weather, heavy seas, and no luck to be found, the Temple Hall, now known as the Telamon ran aground near the Canary Island, Lanzarote. It didn’t help that the maintenance record for the ship was abysmal, you can still find it at the exact same spot, some 40 years after it wrecked. 4.Zeila Shipwreck Zeila was a fishing trawler way past its prime, and its also the smallest ship on this list. Built in 1975, the trawler did its job until the late 2000s. By 2008, it was on its way to Bombay to be used as scrap metal. Unfortunately, the Zeila’s tow line snapped and the ship headed for the shore. If you follow this channel, you know my fascination with the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. Just another example of why this strange and bizarre place is worth a visit. 3.Mega One Triton With a name like that, you might expect something a bit bigger than 700 tonnes, but life aint fair kid. During Hurricane Sandy, Mega One Triton was one of the unlucky vessels that was ran aground due to the weather. Since 2012, it has become a tourist destination for those that are interested in urban exploration. This counts as urban exploration right? After all, it is RIGHT ON THE BEACH ! The local government strongly advises the public to stay away from the wreck since the ship is deteriorating very fast, but I’m not sure anyone is heeding their advice. There was plans to remove the ship from the coastline by December of last year, has it happened yet? I don’t think so. 2.Agios Dimitrios This shipwreck was also trick to find, I have some contradicting information the exact name of the ship. I found sources that listed it as MV Cornelia, and others that called it Dimitrios. So, if anyone can shed some light on the subject that would be great ! The ship was built in 1950 and its history is a bit, mysterious. Stories of smuggling cigarettes and ghosts have been circling since it wrecked in 1981. The cigarette smuggling story is much more believable, sorry ghost hunters. It goes something like this, the Dimitrios was seized at port after contraband cigarettes were found on board. Instead of paying the fines and dealing with authorities, the ship was purposefully released from the port and left to run aground, where all the evidence was set on fire. What do you think? Plausible? 1.Ocean Dream I have been WAITING to write about this cruise ship for MONTHS now ! I finally found enough pictures to entertain you with while I haphazardly try to explain its story. Built in the 70s under the name “Spirit of London” this cruise ship enjoyed a long career in the high seas, providing comfort and entertainment for many people. But all good things must come to an end, and in February 2016, the Ocean Dream met old lady fate. Whats crazy is that the cruise ship was sold for scrap metal in 2009, but before it was destroyed, another cruise company. Turns out, those guys weren’t cool at all. They left the ship near Laem Chabang in Thailand, the cruiseliner was abandoned for over a year by crew and maintenance, it finally capsized in February of 2016. I would definitely suggest NOT booking a cruise on the Ocean Dream, even though the website is still offering it ! There is evidence that a company tried to salvage the ship, but I don’t think it's happening any time soon.

International Safety Management Code (ISM)

04:55
The purpose of this Code is to provide an international standard for the safe management and operation of ships and for pollution prevention. The Code establishes safety-management objectives and requires a safety management system (SMS) to be established by "the Company", which is defined as the shipowner or any person, such as the manager or bareboat charterer, who has assumed responsibility for operating the ship. The Company is then required to establish and implement a policy for achieving these objectives. This includes providing the necessary resources and shore-based support. Every company is expected "to designate a person or persons ashore having direct access to the highest level of management". The procedures required by the Code should be documented and compiled in a Safety Management Manual, a copy of which should be kept on board. After completion of this part you should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding about the background of the ISM Code. Dutch Barge Sea Crossing Safety Checks

03:36
It is hoped this will help you to stay safe. Your barge has probably been working the inland waterways for many years and now you are asking it to cross over the sea in rougher conditions. If you fail to get your fuel tanks cleaned there is a considerable chance that when your vessel starts to pitch and roll about in the swell the sludge which has resided for many years unmoved in the fuel tanks will explode into a thick goo that will block your filters and can even be thick enough to block the delivery pipe... Do not cut back on this area of your barges pre-sea crossing service as you not only endanger your barge but also the lives of the people on board. Stay safe and spend the money to have them cleaned out... Also see https://youtu.be/OuKcIFogh48 I hope you find this helpful. To contact Keith http://www.ngmarine.co.uk/

This Ghost Cruise Liner Was Thought To Be Filled With Cannibalistic Cargo… And Headed For Land ‏‎

07:35
Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com Subscribe to our channel: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ************************************************************** It was the stuff of nightmares. In 2013 the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, Canada, picked up two distress signals from a ghost ship drifting in international waters. Furthermore, with the vessel on course for terra firma, one salvage expert went on the record with a disturbing claim. The ship, he said, was harboring some horrifying stowaways… Named after a much-admired Russian singer and film star, the MV Lyubov Orlova was a Soviet-commissioned cruise liner and expedition vessel made in Yugoslavia in 1976. It was a rugged and resilient craft that spent much of its life touring the icy waters of the Arctic and Antarctic. ------------------------------------------------------ ►Article link:https://goo.gl/f9njZF ------------------------------------------------------ However, the vessel’s long and adventurous service came to an abrupt end in 2010. Due to a lawsuit brought against its debt-ridden owners, the Lyubov Orlova was seized by Canadian authorities and impounded in the port of St John’s in Newfoundland. Its Russian crew consequently found themselves stranded for weeks. The Lyubov Orlova remained docked for some two years until an Iranian scrap dealer called Hussein Humayuni finally acquired it for $275,000. Humayuni then commissioned Hunt Marine – a U.S.-owned tug operator – to tow the ship to the Dominican Republic for stripping and salvage. However, things did not go as planned. ************************************************************** ►You can support the channel: PATREON https://goo.gl/KtaKrp ►Image credits: Image: Lilpop,Rau&Loewenstein ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com #watchjojo

IMCA SEL 038 Mooring incidents

12:14
Mooring vessels is a routine, day to day operation familiar to most crew members. But familiarity can breed contempt and sometimes, seemingly ordinary, routine jobs don't get the full focus of attention they should and there are accidents, some of them very serious indeed. This IMCA video has been developed to help raise awareness of the need for safety awareness in mooring practice. It covers some real mooring incidents and explains how things went wrong and how things can be done in the correct way. It explains some important principles for safe mooring, including planning, communication, the proper use of PPE when at work on deck, and a full understanding of hazards such as bights and rope, and danger zones such as snap back zones and potential pinch points. Vessels moor and cast off every day. It's such a familiar, standard procedure that the temptation may be to treat it more lightly than other operations. Careful planning, risk assessments, good communications and a constant awareness of what's around you can all help to make the job safer for everyone concerned.

The Ourang Medan In 1947 (or, 1948, according to some accounts), a disturbing distress call was picked up by two American ships at British, and Dutch listening posts in the Strait of Malacca. The message said, “All officers including captain are lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew.” This was followed by a burst of indecipherable Morse code, then a final, grim message The men at the listening posts triangulated the message and determined it came from a Dutch freighter vessel called the Ourang Medan. A conscripted American vessel named the Silver Star was dispatched on a rescue mission. The rescuers entered a living nightmare. After hailing the Ourang Medan and receiving no reply, they boarded the vessel. Corpses littered the decks, all of them with the same terrified expression and their arms reaching out as if grappling with an unseen assailant. Even the ship’s dog was, its mouth curled in a snarl. As they investigated, finding even more corpses in the boiler room, the rescuers made a strange observation. Despite it being over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the air in the lowest part of the hold was extremely cold. None of the sailors could explain the phenomenon. They also couldn’t find any damage done to the ship itself. The crew of the Silver Star decided to tow the Ourang Medan back to port. However, as soon as they finished fastening the tow line, they saw smoke boiling up from the lower decks, specifically from the Number 4 hold. The boarding party barely had time to cut the tow line and return to the Silver Star before an explosion ripped through the vessel. The explosion was so strong, it actually lifted the ship out of the water before it disappeared below the waters of the Strait of Malacca. One theory as to what happened on the Ourang Medan is that it carried some form of nerve gas that escaped, everyone and causing the explosion. It doesn’t account for the strange cold down below, however. At any rate, we will probably never know for sure what happened. 9. The Carroll A. Deering In August 1920, the Carroll A. Deering set sail from Norfolk, Virginia with an experienced captain and a crew of 10 men bound for Rio de Janeiro with a cargo of coal. Its original captain, William H. Merritt, fell ill shortly after departure and was replaced by Captain W. B. Wormell. Despite this sudden change, the ship delivered its cargo on schedule and set sail to return in December. So far so good! Captain Jacobson aboard the Cape Lookout Lightship in North Carolina sighted the vessel bound for its home port on January 29, 1921. The Carroll A. Deering hailed the lightship and reported that the ship had lost its anchors. Captain Jacobson took note, but couldn’t report it because his radio was out. He later described the crew of the Carroll A. Deering "milling around" suspiciously on the fore deck of the ship. Two days later, the schooner was seen stuck on Diamond Shoals, a treacherous stretch of water. Rough waters kept anyone from reaching the wreck until February 4, when rescuers discovered the Carroll A. Deering to be abandoned. Two lifeboats, personal belongings, key navigational equipment, some papers, and the ship’s anchors were also missing. Despite an investigation by the fledgling FBI, no trace of the crew or the ship’s logs were ever recovered. 8. The Octavius In 1761, a ship named The Octavius departed London loaded with cargo bound for China. It reached its destination and took on another load for the return trip. By then, it was 1762. The captain decided to take advantage of unusually warm weather and risk an attempt through the Northwest Passage. Even though no one had been able to navigate it successfully yet. No one saw the Octavius for thirteen years and people assumed it succumbed to the Arctic. On October 11, 1775 the whaling ship The Herald, while working in waters west of Greenland, spotted a ship drifting along. They boarded her only to find the entire crew below decks frozen solid. The captain sat at his desk in his cabin, frozen stiff with pen in hand apparently in the middle of a log entry. The ship was The Octavius. According to the last log entry, dated 1762, the captain’s chance at conquering the Northwest Passage had failed and the ship was locked in ice. Six Months At Sea In The Merchant Marine

22:05
In this short documentary, I tried to answer some of the common questions that I usually get about shipping. The footage I took myself using fairly basic cameras that I could fit in my pocket while I was on the job as a deckhand. The story follows me on a six month journey around the world on a container ship which was on a run between New York and Singapore via the Suez Canal. This was my first time going to sea on a large ship so everything was relatively new to me, therefore please excuse the couple of shipping terms I misused (such as saying "license" when I should have said "credential"). I have been on many ships since and will continue to ship out for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching. Ships Engines History

22:26
Marine propulsion is the mechanism or system used to generate thrust to move a ship or boat across water. While paddles and sails are still used on some smaller boats, most modern ships are propelled by mechanical systems consisting of an electric motor or engine turning a propeller, or less frequently, in pump-jets, an impeller. Marine engineering is the discipline concerned with the engineering design process of marine propulsion systems. https://tinyurl.com/ships-engines-history

Building the Queen Elizabeth - Part 1 (Ship Building Documentary) | Spark

38:47
The Queen Elizabeth will be one of Britain’s greatest ships. The new pride of the Cunard Line is being built at a cost of £350 million. This documentary gives privileged access to the construction of an exciting new generation of ocean-going liners; a 92,000-tonne ship designed to double as a transatlantic express and a cruise ship. Our cameras were there at the laying of her keel; we follow the building of her superstructure, the installation of the massive engines, the fitting out of sumptuous staterooms, recruitment of exceptional staff – from the captain down. This is a story of great engineering endeavour, brought alive by unique archive film of the first Queen Elizabeth and the legendary Queen Mary. It will intrigue and fascinate those who love tales of the sea; of giant ships and of maritime engineering and of the human side of creating and manning one of the world’s greatest ships. They fail before taking the exam and because they assume that they don't know . The successful people the other hand they don't know something they go find out and they going to read and understand . Dont know , ask and how they do it. They digest and so the difference successful and unsuccessful people. The person who doesn't know stop is unsuccessful and the person who doesn't know and go to find out become successful The second thing to understand unsuccessful people, when they think of certain things , I dont have the money for e-learning and the time to study and they stop. The successful people the same both at you but they took a chance and can make time . Go something else and go study and make that time. Dont invest the money , invest first and invest your cost . Make your effort and do it Dont get assume and you always be there . Now its turn to put yourself in the advance position . Make it happen The last thing you need; Unsuccessful says that I am not a smart and I cant do that . I am not type kind of person and stop. I need time to study. Have a positive mind set ASK don't ask the people . ask people who has been there and ask people how do I get there \what do I need to do . how do I need to overcome this situation ASK they realize they answers . When ASK they give you on what to do and the priority . This are the way that you can pass your exam and made that investment . Dont waste that money . Your family is waiting for your success.

Mighty Cruise Ships: The Marco Polo

45:42
As other cruise ships head for the Caribbean in late autumn, Marco Polo, the Grande Dame of the Baltic, keeps her cool up north, and that's just how her passengers like it. They've paid to see Old World cities such as Copenhagen, St. Petersburg and Helsinki without crowds of tourists, but traveling this time of year is a risky venture. And while this 50-year-old liner is built to plow through broken ice on arctic routes, a new captain, some unpredictable seas, and a brooding hurricane will make this a historic ride in more ways than one. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling.
