From 1990 Album: "Fear Of A Black Planet". Song first appeared on the 1989 Soundtrack: "Do The Right Thing"..... Public Enemy Official Site: http://www.publicenemy.com/ Get Public Enemy's Music: http://www.amazon.com/Public-Enemy/e/B000APZO1A/ref=ntt_mus_gen_pel & http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewArtist?id=36954 Public Enemy, also known as PE, is an influential hip hop group from Long Island, New York, known for its politically charged lyrics and criticism of the American media, with an active interest in the frustrations and concerns of the African American community. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Public Enemy number forty-four on its list of the Immortals: 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Acclaimed Music ranks them the 29th most recommended musical act of all time and the highest hip-hop group. The group was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2007. Chuck D put out a tape to promote WBAU (the radio station where he was working at the time) and to fend off a local mc who wanted to battle him. He called the tape Public Enemy #1 because he felt like he was being persecuted by people in the local scene. This was the first reference to the notion of a public enemy in any of Chuck D's songs. The single was created by Chuck D with a contribution by Flavor Flav, though this was before the group Public Enemy was officially assembled. According to Chuck, The S1W, which stands for Security of the First World, "represents that the black man can be just as intelligent as he is strong. It stands for the fact that we're not third-world people, we're first-world people; we're the original people [of the earth]." On the track "Louder Than a Bomb" from It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, Chuck D reveals that the D in his nickname stands for Dangerous. Developing his talents as an MC with Flavor Flav while delivering furniture for his father's business, Chuck D (Carlton Douglas Ridenhour) and Spectrum City, as the group was called, released the record "Check out the Radio," backed by "Lies," a social commentary—both of which would influence RUSH Productions' Run-D.M.C. and Beastie Boys. The group was signed to the still developing Def Jam Recordings record label after co-founder Rick Rubin heard Chuck D freestyling on a demo. Around 1986, Bill Stephney, the former Program Director at WBAU, was approached by Rubin and offered a position with the label. Stephney accepted, and his first assignment was to help Rubin sign Chuck D, whose song "Public Enemy Number One" he had heard from Andre "Doctor Dré" Brown. According to the book The History of Rap Music by Cookie Lommel, "Stephney thought it was time to mesh the hard-hitting style of Run DMC with politics that addressed black youth. Chuck recruited Spectrum City, which included Hank Shocklee, his brother Keith Shocklee, and Eric "Vietnam" Sadler, collectively known as the Bomb Squad, to be his production team and added another Spectrum City partner, Professor Griff, to become the group's Minister of Information. With the addition of Flavor Flav and another local mobile DJ named Terminator X, the group Public Enemy was born." Public Enemy opened for The Beastie Boys on some of their East Coast concerts, including Philadelphia, Newark and Brooklyn. Further info at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_Enemy_(band)

re:form Traditions gives youth the tools they need to deeply explore their particular faith tradition with witty videos, engaging individual and group activities, and an online forum for sharing what they’ve learned along the way. Traditions is designed to be used alongside the core re:form curriculum, or your current curriculum, in settings like confirmation classes where additional denominational-specific material is preferred or required. We assembled the dream team of Methodist, Reformed, and Lutheran theologians, pastors, and practitioners from across the country to create re:form Traditions. Together, they provided historical accuracy, a theological framework, and translated it all into fun activities and language that speaks to today’s youth. Starting as a traditionally trained chef, Chef Kenney had his first restaurant in New York by the time he was 28 years old, focusing on regional Mediterranean cooking. After a journey through Foie Gras and Strip Steak, and being named one of the Ten Best New Chefs in America by Food and Wine magazine, he realized that the greatest use of his talent was to develop and prepare whole foods that were alive and healthful. Now, in addition to serving life-giving, gourmet food, Matthew has become the world's leading raw, vegan Chef and also educates both people who are looking for a better life through health and wellness as well as new chefs from around the world at his academy. To get you in the mood we have caught up with some of the artists who will be performing on the Group Therapy Stages to find out more about what they will be playing and what you can expect to hear from them. This interview is with Jaytech, the long chosen, warm-up DJ of choice for Above & Beyond, who is now taking off as a headline DJ in his own right. Chosen to headline the Anjunadeep room for the label's flagship party at the Miami WMC, he remains the number one headline DJ within the core Anjunadeep family. Despite his relative youth, Jaytech's prodigious creativity and prolific work rate (he started producing at just 14 and released his first track at 16) have seen him rise up as the most consistent artist on the popular Anjunadeep imprint — even releasing the label's first full artist album through 2008's 'Everything Is Ok' ("Lush, melodic and soaked in electronic groove - a crossover gem" **** DJ Magazine), and hitting number one in the iTunes dance chart with his Anjunadeep 02 mix compilation in 2010. ("Compilation of the month **** Mixmag.) February 2011 saw the release of Jaytech's most promising mix work to date, Anjunadeep 03. Proof of his rising stock behind the turntables, a packed DJ diary has recently taken in dates at Ibiza's Amnesia, London's Brixton Academy and Japan's world-famous Womb. In the past year he has also traveled the vast corners of his Australian homeland with the Future Music Festival and taken his uplifting and perfectly paced sound on tour in America — more recently with Above & Beyond for their TATW350 event in Los Angeles, where his set was broadcast live across the globe to a listen-in audience of 30 million. Good quality video recorded live from Top Of The Pops 1982. Tight Fit are a British pop group who had a number of hits in the early 1980s, including a UK No.1 (for three weeks) with their cover version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" in 1982. The group had two completely different line-ups - the first (a group of session singers) in 1981 and a male/female trio in 1982. In 1981, record producer Ken Gold came up with the idea to record a single made up of a medley of 1960s songs. The medley trend was in full swing at this time, following the success of Starsound and their Stars on 45 singles. He put together a group of male/female session singers and released "Back to the 60s" under the group title, Tight Fit. The song became a hit in the summer and reached No.4 in the UK Singles Chart. A follow-up, "Back to the 60s Part 2" was released soon after and also hit the UK Top 40. Later in the year record producer Tim Friese-Greene recorded the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" with another group of session singers. The song was released in early 1982 again under the title Tight Fit. The song gained instant attention and so a group was formed to front it. Dancer, singer and male model Steve Grant was teamed up with female singers Denise Gyngell and Julie Harris. The song reached No.1 in the UK for three weeks and the line-up were catapulted into sudden and unexpected stardom. Satisfied that this line-up could actually sing in their own right, Friese-Greene produced their next single, "Fantasy Island" - a song which had been in the Dutch Eurovision Song Contest heats. The song, in a very similar vein to pop group ABBA, also became a success and reached No.5 in May. The group then set about recording an album as well as rehearsing for their first tour. A third single was released in August. "Secret Heart" was not as big as a success as the previous two and stalled at No.41. The debut album was released soon after, but coincided with both Harris and Gyngell leaving the group. Both unhappy with their contract, they claimed that they were not receiving any royalties from their hits and were being paid a paltry wage to tour the world as well as recording sessions, television appearances and magazine interviews. Swiftly, two new female singers were employed to take their place and the group released another single, "I'm Undecided" - a song from the album, with new vocals. The song failed to make the UK Chart and this signalled the end of Tight Fit's brief pop stardom. In an interview, Harris stated that the public did not take to the new line-up and had she and Gyngell been still with the group, it would have likely been a hit. The following year, Tight Fit released one more single - a cover of Stephen Stills' "Love The One You're With". Under the banner, Steve Grant with Tight Fit, the song completely missed the chart and the group duly split-up. In 2008, members Denise Gyngell and Julie Harris reformed Tight Fit with new male member Silvio Gigante as a touring band, playing nightclubs around Britain. In 2010 they are touring in a show called "Back to the Eighties", performing many well-known songs from the 1980s as well as their own hits. Steve Grant has also appeared with them at some gigs and with him, they are recording a new album for Sony Music, produced by Ross Alexander. Tight Fit are currently back in the recording studio. Recording new material as well as remixing some of their classic tracks (Fantasy Island) for a new album due to be released towards the end of August 2010 called "Now & Then". They are also currently in filming for the new series of "Pineapple Dance Studio's for SKY TV. The programme, featuring the original members, is due to air in January 2011. This is her talk at TEDxYSE: Unleashing Young Social Entrepreneurs hosted by Ashoka's Youth Venture on November 13th, 2010 in Washington, DC. Rebecca Kantar, 18, is a founding member of Minga, a youth-run civic organization dedicated to ending the global child sex trade through educating teens worldwide. Rebecca first became aware of child trafficking in her early teens, the same age of many sex-trafficked American girls. Shocked to consider that youth just like her were being exploited, she was galvanized to take action. To date, Minga has raised $85,000 to support a rehabilitation center in the Phillipines while also directly engaging and educating over 10,000 youth. Rebecca directs Minga's publicity and outreach efforts, and she'll soon launch a high-profile national PSA campaign to raise broader awareness of sex trafficking. She has been named as one of TIME Magazine's Tomorrow25 and will be attending Harvard University as a freshman in September. Learn more about Rebecca's work at http://mingagroup.org/ What is TEDx? We rolled the cameras in a place where they have rolled many times before -- Sundance, Utah. Steve has spent many summers there in a cabin built by his grandfather. It's also where he proposed to his wife (she said yes, by the way =) Such an incredible place of beauty and raw nature merited a piece of music that matched the setting. This arrangement of Nearer My God to Thee was the first song Steve and Al recorded together. It is based upon and inspired by an arrangement of James Stevens for 9 voices (arranged for the BYU singing group "Vocal Point"). For us music often is a spiritual experience -- a way to connect with others, with nature, and with a loving God. This video is not meant to exclude those that do not believe in God. We hope everyone can find beauty in this music and relate it to how they feel when they experience joy-whether it's joy from hiking in nature, spending time with family, serving others, or relaxing on a beach.
