Matt Cordle's Drunken Driving Video Confession "I Killed A Man"

02:04
Matt Cordle's confession doesn't beat around the bush: "I killed a man." The Ohio man claims in a video posted on the Internet this week that he killed 61-year-old Vincent Canzani in a drunken-driving crash in June. "I take full responsibility for everything I've done to Vincent and his family," Cordle says in the video. The 22-year-old has not been charged with any crime, but Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien said Cordle is a suspect in the deadly crash and a grand jury will be asked to indict him for aggravated vehicular homicide. The video is well-produced and powerful. Cordle's face is blurred as he begins to tell his story about being out with friend, drinking heavily and losing control the night of June 22. Attorneys that he consulted with offered to help him avoid any punishment -- "all I had to do was lie" -- but he decided to come forward instead. And he wants his video to be a warning to others. "I can't bring Mr. Canzani back, and I can't erase what I've done, but you can still be saved, your victims can still be saved," he says on the video. When he gets charged, he will plead guilty, Cordle added. The video was posted on a website called "because I said I would," which provides a forum for people to make promises to others. The founder of the website, Alex Sheen, said Cordle reached out to him via Facebook. "There are a lot of emotions and parties at play here, so we stay in touch as much as possible," Sheen said. "Matt is doing as well as he can. He's upset that people are calling his act of confession 'courageous' rather than focusing on the real issue: drinking and driving kills innocent people." Cordle's current lawyer, George Breitmayer, told CNN affiliate WBNS he did not know beforehand that the video would be released. "The video he released is a testament to both his integrity and his character, and I know that he intends to fully cooperate throughout the tenancy of all these proceedings," Breitmayer said. The crash Canzani was driving a Jeep when he was struck by a wrong-way driver on I-670 near Columbus, according to the Columbus Dispatch. A Toyota Tundra was driving in the wrong direction and hit the Jeep about 3 a.m. Canzani was declared dead at the scene. The newspaper story did not name Cordle. The victim Canzani was a veteran and gifted photographer, according to his obituary. He studied at Columbus College of Art and Design and served in the Navy as a missile technician in the Naval Submarine Service from 1980 to 1986, the obituary states.

16 yo drunk boys blamed, arrested, charged for "letting" 17 yo drunk female drive herself home

01:32
Terrible tragedy. But I must say, if men and women are equal, then why is it that no matter how drunk or incapacitated a man or boy is, somehow he is still held to super human standards and responsibility for female's bad decisions. The drunk 16 year old boys (who were younger, probably weighed less and were more drunk than this female) drove themselves home before 17 yo Jane Modlesky took the wheel and drove exactly half a mile before going off the road in to a tree which resulted in her death. Another 17 year old girl who actually threw the booze fueled party, provided all the minors with alcohol and lent the car that was involved in the fatal accident was also charged but with only throwing the parties, unlike the boys who were charged for being responsible for not preventing Modleshy's drunk driving crash.

The Consequences of Drink Driving

02:03
Car wreckage and a £50,000 pint come to Manchester People in Manchester will be exposed to two very different consequences of drink driving by Greater Manchester Police. The wreckage of a car whose owner was killed in drink driving crash will go on display at the University of Manchester, alongside a pint worth £50,000 -- the personal financial cost of a conviction. The £50,000 pint, displayed behind velvet ropes and housed in a protective glass case, represents the personal financial cost of drink-driving, calculated for the first time by the Institute of Advanced Motorists. The calculation reflects the fines, legal costs, rise in insurance premiums and possible job losses faced by those who are convicted. The wreckage, known as the Think! Car, was owned by a 21-year-old man who lost control of his car on his way home and hit a tree, sadly killing him. The activity is part of the University 'Wellbeing Week' and will involve police conducting on the spot breathalyser tests and handing out free 'scratchcards', as well as activity highlighting the dangers posed to cyclists and bikers straying into the blind spots of HGVs and buses. Inspector Matt Bailey-Smith from Greater Manchester Police said: "Drink driving ruins lives. It can cost motorists their family, job and worse still their life or that of somebody else. "Many people do not think of the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol until it is too late and police are committed to tackling this issue so that we can make the roads of Greater Manchester a safer place to be. "If you are planning on driving then the safest choice you can make is to avoid alcohol all together, and if you see somebody else attempting to drink and drive then make sure you stop them. It could be the difference between life and death." Road Safety Minister Stephen Hammond said: "It might only look like a humble pint of beer, but it could end up costing much more than a few quid -- in fact it comes with an eye-watering hidden cost if it pushes you over the limit. "Most people know not to drink and drive but a small number still do, which is why we are highlighting the consequences of a drink drive conviction through our THINK! campaign. "Anyone thinking of drinking and driving should be without any doubt -- if you are caught driving over the limit you will face a heavy court fine and lose your licence -- you could even go to prison."

7-Year-Old Caught Driving Intoxicated Man Home

01:01
Police in Queensland, Australia recently stopped a car maneuvering without headlights. Officers were stunned to find a 7-year-old little boy behind the wheel while an adult male sat in the passenger's seat. It's always smart to assign a designated driver during a night out. But one man is in hot water for the person he chose to put in the driver's seat. Police in Queensland, Australia recently stopped a car driving without headlights (1,2,1) Officers were stunned to find a 7-year-old little boy behind the wheel. There was a fully grown adult male in the passenger's seat, but he was reportedly drunk, as the 41-year-old failed a roadside breathalyzer test. It is believed that man is the child's father. The suspected dad has been charged with being an adult in charge under the influence of alcohol and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. An astonished road safety advisor stated "Children at that age don't have the mental or physical capabilities to drive a car safely. It is a real concern to hear that children were being put in that position." The young boy was placed into the care of other family members.

Sober Man DUI, Claims It Was Case Of 'Driving While Black'

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- A 64-year-old retiree was charged with a DUI after being pulled over by police officers in Surprise, Ariz. There was just one problem: A breathalyzer test revealed that the man was sober, with a blood-alcohol content of 0.000. Jessie Thornton, a 64-year-old retired firefighter from Ohio, said that cops told him that they didn't need a breathalyzer to give him a DUI, ABC 15 reports. Police on the scene reportedly told Thornton that they knew he was drunk merely by looking at him, even though he was completely sober. According to Surprise Police Department paperwork, Thornton was pulled around at around 11 p.m. for crossing a white line in his lane. Apparently, the 64-year-old had red eyes after swimming at a nearby LA Fitness, but the officer assumed that he had been drinking. "I take my glasses off and he says, 'You've got bloodshot eyes.' I said, 'I've been swimming at LA Fitness,' and he says, 'I think you're DUI,'" Thornton told ABC 15. "He (the officer) goes, 'Well we're going to do a sobriety test.' I said, 'OK, but I got bad knees and a bad hip with surgery in two days.'" Medical documents confirm that Thornton was scheduled to undergo hip replacement surgery two days after the alleged DUI, ABC 15 reports. The incident's police report notes that the Ohio native did have hip and knee problems. Thornton's health problems didn't seem to affect the officers who conducted his sobriety test. "I couldn't even sit on the ground like that and they knew it and I was like laying on the ground, then they put me in the back of an SUV, and when I asked the officer to move her seat up 'cause my hip hurt she told me to stop whining," Thornton told ABC 15. The 64-year-old's 0.000 BAC should have negated the officers' DUI allegations. Instead, the Surprise Police Department instructed a drug recognition expert to test Thornton for potential drug use. After extensive testing, the "DRE" declared Thornton to be sober, with no signs of the intoxication that would have led to a DUI arrest. "After he did all the tests, he says, 'I would never have arrested you, you show no signs of impairment," Thornton told ABC 15. Thornton now believes that the DUI charge was motivated by race. "I've been stopped 10 times in Surprise and given four tickets, it's amazing," said Thornton. "It was driving while black. I just don't want any of this to happen to somebody else."
