R5 (Daily Vlog 8 of 21) So obviously a bit of safety information in here for the kids. To be extra cautious I decide not to sleep as I get closer to the only island I would encounter on this trip. This causes a few problems and perhaps a bit of delirium. We have the “Annoying thing of the day” segment and some nicer wind. Abortion at sea | The Economist

04:01
Making abortions illegal does not stop them from happening, but it does stop them happening safely. Meet the charity taking women out to international waters where they can have safe abortions without fear of prosecution. Screen reader support enabled. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.st/2A5ZevU This woman is about to be taken out to sea for an abortion. She faces imprisonment if she had the procedure on land. She lives in Mexico, one of many countries with strict abortion laws. Worldwide, around one quarter of pregnancies end in abortion. Nearly half of those – around 26 million – are unsafe. In five countries, abortion is banned under all circumstances. In many more, such as Mexico, a termination is only permitted if the pregnancy puts the woman’s life at risk. Dr Rebecca Gomperts is the founder of Dutch pro-choice charity ‘Women on Waves’. They believe a woman's right to determine her pregnancy outweighs the rights of the fetus. The charity sail their boat to countries where abortion is illegal, then take women out to the safety of international waters to receive pills for an early abortion. The main aim is to draw attention to restrictive laws that criminalise abortion and push it underground. According to the World Health Organisation, making abortion illegal does not reduce the number of terminations, but it increases the number of unsafe, backstreet abortions. Unsafe abortions account for 13% of all maternal deaths. In 2015 Women on Waves started using drones to deliver abortion pills to countries like Poland and Northern Ireland - a stunt to draw attention to their cause. Their work angers authorities, many of which accuse Dr Gomperts of imposing her cultural values on women of different backgrounds. In some countries, women face imprisonment for having an abortion, even in cases of rape. Daily Watch: mind-stretching short films throughout the working week. Safety at Sea - SAS/ISAF - Seminar

02:13
For more information on SAS or ISAF please visit http://www.sailaweighllc.com Or http://www.ussailing.org/ for additional information. I had to attend the safety at sea seminar in order for Volvo to let me tryout for the OBR job. This is some of the footage I captured during my experience. Sponsored by http://soundclipstudio.com/ Sound engineer Sean Powers Produced and Edited by Justin Richard Edelman For photos please use this link https://1drv.ms/f/s!AiNdRMBQrf3egZR0SHsVKOExZ1u76A Interview with John Miller, USCG Merchant Marine Master with Sailing Endorsement Justin: Why are more races pushing the SAS certificate? John: It is a proven fact from data collected from World Sailing (formerly ISAF), RYA, US Sailing, USCG . . . Trained sailors have fewer accidents and when they do have an accident, the seriousness of the consequences are not as great as compared to those who have no training; simple logic.  World Sailing and RYA (Royal Yachting Association) have been leaders in the industry to push for both didactic and hands-on training for safety certification programs.  US Sailing has recently partnered with World Sailing to standardize safety programs globally.  In addition, World Sailing and ORR (Offshore Racing Rules) have codified safety training requirements in racing rules; the basis for individual event NOR's (Notice of Race).  Couple this with Marine insurers who have reviewed the data and are requiring compliance with NOR's and you have a perfect storm. Justin: Was there any particular event that caused the program to be put in place? John: Actually PacCup 2018 is requiring US Sailing 2 Day SAS with hands-on training or ISAF (equivalent program offered by World Sailing).  This is an upgrade from the requirement of 1 or 2 Day SAS for the owner, captain, all watch captains a minimum of 30% of crew; now accepting only the 2 Day SAS or ISAF.  On the Eastern Seaboard, ARC - World Cruising Club is requiring the 2 Day SAS OR ISAF for ALL crew.  Atlantic Cup is quickly moving to match ARC.  TransPac is discussing to standardize to the 2 Day SAS like PacCup.  Locally, the Newport to Ensenada Race (200 yachts) notified all registered vessels that they will be enforcing NOR requirements for safety training.  Putting it altogether, upgraded requirements coupled with stricter enforcement is driving the need for participants to certify, re-certify and take safety training seriously. Justin: In your words, why is it important to do SAS?\ John: Being a USCG Merchant Marine Master with Sailing Endorsement, I am responsible for the safety and well being of every crew and passenger on my vessel.  Tropic Thunder exceeds minimum requirements of safety gear, policies and procedures.  Regardless, the best equipped, best designed and fastest vessel has no value without a trained and experienced crew.  The best safety products, equipment, policies and procedures have no value if the crew and passengers do not know how to properly use them. 8 GREAT TIPS FOR SURVIVAL AT SEA

06:11
Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. STCW95 Sea Survival Techniques

05:11
The STCW95/ RYA Sea Survival course is designed to provide the participant with a basic understanding of what to do in an emergency at sea. It is not only educational, but great fun and will raise your awareness of the value of being prepared in the event the unthinkable happens. Being properly trained in the use of survival equipment could help save your life. This course is also a pre-requisite for those who are looking to gain their commercial endorsement to operate as a professional skipper. The RYA Sea Survival course includes a practical session in a swimming pool and students are encouraged to experience first hand the problems of entering an inflated and uncooperative life raft while fully kitted out in waterproofs and an inflated life jacket.

Safety At Sea

None would forget the tragedy that struck in February last year when the northern parish of St. Patrick’s was plunged into mourning. Tragedy struck during a boating excursion between the mainland and the sister island of carriacou. The excursioners were heading to Carriacou carnival. The Royal Grenada Police Force is urging those travelling to the sister isle for this year’s celebrations, to ensure that all systems are in place for a safe journey.

Pilot Embarkation - Gangway Access - Unsafe Practice at Sea CHIRP Maritime Safety

08:33
CHIRP Maritime Safety 05 2017 The hazards of Pilot boarding Throughout 2016, the International Maritime Pilots’ Association (IMPA) held a safety campaign focused upon the standard of pilot ladders and associated equipment. CHIRP supported this campaign and received many reports on the subject. This first report describes issues concerning pilot access near the non-parallel ends of a ship, and use of a retractable platform. The second report highlights the difficult challenges facing the Master and the pilot boat skipper during a pilot boarding operation in adverse weather. A pilot should not feel pressured to board and should abort any boarding where conditions are considered to be too hazardous. A safe means of access – at ALL times. An account of a homemade spreader being used to support an accommodation ladder. To read the full edition of Maritime FEEDBACK 46 please follow this link: https://www.chirpmaritime.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/MFB-46.pdf We are always delighted to receive feedback from our viewers We like to think that FEEDBACK works both ways – we tell you what our reporters send in, and you tell us more about many of the topics. 16 Questions That Could Save Your Child’s Life

10:01
How to protect your child from kidnapping? Essential safety skills for kids: 10 important rules every child should know and follow. Show this video to your little one! It is absolutely unacceptable to take food, toys or any other things from strangers. You have to teach your child that they can only occasionally take something from your neighbors who you know very well but nobody else. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and your child must know this from a very early age. Children must know that their parents are people who they can trust and if anything bad happens, they can come to them for help. If you find out that your child is threatened on the Internet, you should tell your child that there is no way the bad guys can get to him. After that call the helpline and explain the situation. The will take the necessary measures. TIMESTAMPS - What should you do if your parents are away and someone is trying to open the door? 1:15 - Should you take candy from a stranger? 2:02 - What should you do if the power socket starts steaming and there’s no one else at home? 2:33 - An adult stranger is asking for help. Should you help them? 3:06 - What should you do if you’re attacked by a pack of dogs? 3:35 - You’ve just met someone you age. Should you go to their place if invited? 4:06 - What should you do if you smell gas at home? 4:43 - If you are waiting for an elevator and some strangers come up, should you go with them? 5:02 - What should you do if you notice you’re being watched? 5:32 - If you are home alone, who can you let in? 6:02 - What if a stranger grabs you and doesn’t let you go? 6:27 - What if you find yourself in a large crowd of people? 6:57 - What if you’re on the street during a large thunderstorm? 7:27 - What should you do if someone is threatening you or your family on the Internet? 8:10 - Your friends want you to play with them on the frozen river. Will you go? 8:42 - Can you take medicine from the first aid kit if your parents are away? 9:17 SUMMARY - It takes a minute to call the parents and tell them about what’s going on, and then there are three people (the kid and two parents) informing others instead of only one frightened child. Besides, parents can try to calm their child down and remind them how to call the rescue service and what to tell them. - It is absolutely unacceptable to take food, toys or any other things from strangers. You have to teach your child that they can only occasionally take something from your neighbors who you know very well but nobody else. - Your child should know that if there is a risk of fire in your house or apartment, they must never try to put out the fire on their own. The first thing they should do is get out of the building as fast as possible. - If someone is asking your child for help, they should just clearly say «no» and leave. Don’t get us wrong: helping people is nice, but only when they really need help. - Fast movement, loud noises can only provoke animals to attack. If the kid has a school bag, they should throw it aside to try to divert the dogs’ attention. - No matter how friendly somebody seems, they can turn out to be anyone. Your kid should understand this: there is nothing wrong with refusing an invitation. - What should you do if you smell gas at home? Walking outside and calling the fire brigade is the best course of action. - Being locked in a tight space with a group of strangers can be extremely dangerous. There is nowhere to run if something bad happens. So, children should turn down such offers. - If a child notices that someone seems to be following them, they should head straight to any public place: a supermarket, a park, a hair salon. - No one the child doesn’t know. Whoever they seem to be, whatever they look like, children should never open the door to strangers. - There is nothing wrong about shouting and fighting. - Teach your children to avoid crowds. If this happened anyway, they should know that moving against the crowd is the worst thing they can do. - Finding a safe place should be the top priority. Any place will do: a shop, a mall, an entrance hall. - Children must know that their parents are people who they can trust and if anything bad happens, they can come to them for help. - Playing hockey, skating or any other activities that involve ice should be practiced only in specially designed places. - All medicine that you have at home should be hidden in a place where your child can’t get to it. Sailor's for life. ENICUTE CHISAM

03:29
Really appreciable song by Enicute Chisam😘😘👏 Watch this Amazing musical video for all the mariners in the world "sailor for life" Song by: Enicute Chisam https://www.youtube.com/user/ENICUTERAPCITY videoEditing by: Humans At Sea💪💪🚢⚓⚓😎 . Full Lyrics 👇👇 Life of a cadet, military swag And there is no other uniform better than ours Police is nice, Army is nice too Navy is the first, we are rated as the best White pant, White shirt, with my sailors hat Looking so fresh with the epaulets on my shoulder Am killing this beat with my maritime vocals Sailing is fun because my captain is so social I go around the world sail foreign not local I see the world for free and get paid when its over Next am on the land i might get a Range rover Give thanks to Jehovah because my Voyage is over Yeah!!! Because i have worked so hard Back in the days it used to hurt so bad See right now i see my mum is so glad And am looking at the window I see my dad is so proud Am staring at the Cloud giving God the glory Because he died for my sins and he told me not to worry That is no joke its a real life story This is my flow or my MARITIME story... Am a sailor for life, for life... 24/7 under the blue sky, blue sky, blue sky... Sailing around the world, Sailing around the world... With a smile because its what I love, love... Through every situation Through bad weathers and storms, we always stay strong Because we are sailors for life We always survive, We are always on guard... Yeah! Am being successful Working in an oil ship, That is blessful I.M.O. safety, so i got to be careful, Safety on board, got to protect the vessel From pirates trying to come over on board The CAPTAIN is the only one we trust Sailing through rough see all hopes on God to bring us back home to the ones that we love... Am a sailor for life 24/7 under the blue sky Sailing around the world With a smile because its what I love, love... Call me Jack Sparrow because am dealing with Pirates Am Stevie like wonder, My Ship is never under My techniques are foreign, far from being storming Only GOD can judge me I need no Jury When am on the Ship, Me am Looking fierce and furry Am strictly on the ENGINE because that is my duty With no distraction like Romanian BOOTY Enicute is a Rapper and a Sailor trully...
