8 GREAT TIPS FOR SURVIVAL AT SEA

06:11
Most of us adore beach resorts and go to one of the large saltwater bodies at least once a year. However, we shouldn’t forget that the sea is as attractive as it is wayward. We at Bright Side wondered how a person who happened to be in the open sea should behave. It turns out there are several rules that aren’t at all difficult to remember. Despair is your most dangerous enemy. Don’t give up hope of being saved. There are many stories of people who were found in the open sea months after their disappearance. For instance, 25-year-old sailor Poon Lim, who worked on a British merchant ship, survived alone 133 days in the open sea. After a shipwreck, he managed to find a raft with fresh water, cookies, flares, and a flashlight. Every day, Lim ate only 2 cookies and made 3 sips of water. To avoid muscle atrophy, he even floated around the raft twice a day. As you can see, human possibilities are endless. The main thing is to keep calm and hope for the best. TIMESTAMPS Calm down 0:35 Choose the right swimming style 0:57 Find something that floats 1:37 Take care of clothes 1:55 Decide what you’ll eat 2:16 Provide yourself with liquid 3:01 Save yourself properly 4:02 Don’t lose hope 5:06 SUMMARY - Panic definitely won’t help you. It can cloud your judgment and make you lose the rhythm of breathing. Therefore, the first thing you should do is to calm down. - The style of swimming you choose determines how long your strength will last. In calm water, it’s better to swim on your back. If waves splash around you, it’s better to swim on your belly. - If you’re in the open sea as a result of a shipwreck or an airplane water landing, there must be plenty of things around you that perfectly keep afloat. It will be even better if it’s a boat or a raft with which ships are equipped. - Remember that open sunlight can be extremely dangerous. So don’t remove your clothes — they’ll protect you from the sun. - If you have rations, divide them into small daily portions. This will make them last for a long time, and you won’t have problems with digestion. - Try to fish even if you have stores of food. After all, fish contain some liquid. - You have to consume the liquid constantly but never drink seawater. - Try to ensure that you always have a couple of empty containers left for collecting rainwater. According to studies, drinking untreated rainwater is safe for your health. - • If you found fluorescein, dissolve it in the water when you see an airplane or ship. It forms a bright spot around you which can be easily seen from the air and from afar. Safety at Sea - SAS/ISAF - Seminar

02:13
For more information on SAS or ISAF please visit http://www.sailaweighllc.com Or http://www.ussailing.org/ for additional information. I had to attend the safety at sea seminar in order for Volvo to let me tryout for the OBR job. This is some of the footage I captured during my experience. Sponsored by http://soundclipstudio.com/ Sound engineer Sean Powers Produced and Edited by Justin Richard Edelman For photos please use this link https://1drv.ms/f/s!AiNdRMBQrf3egZR0SHsVKOExZ1u76A Interview with John Miller, USCG Merchant Marine Master with Sailing Endorsement Justin: Why are more races pushing the SAS certificate? John: It is a proven fact from data collected from World Sailing (formerly ISAF), RYA, US Sailing, USCG . . . Trained sailors have fewer accidents and when they do have an accident, the seriousness of the consequences are not as great as compared to those who have no training; simple logic.  World Sailing and RYA (Royal Yachting Association) have been leaders in the industry to push for both didactic and hands-on training for safety certification programs.  US Sailing has recently partnered with World Sailing to standardize safety programs globally.  In addition, World Sailing and ORR (Offshore Racing Rules) have codified safety training requirements in racing rules; the basis for individual event NOR's (Notice of Race).  Couple this with Marine insurers who have reviewed the data and are requiring compliance with NOR's and you have a perfect storm. Justin: Was there any particular event that caused the program to be put in place? John: Actually PacCup 2018 is requiring US Sailing 2 Day SAS with hands-on training or ISAF (equivalent program offered by World Sailing).  This is an upgrade from the requirement of 1 or 2 Day SAS for the owner, captain, all watch captains a minimum of 30% of crew; now accepting only the 2 Day SAS or ISAF.  On the Eastern Seaboard, ARC - World Cruising Club is requiring the 2 Day SAS OR ISAF for ALL crew.  Atlantic Cup is quickly moving to match ARC.  TransPac is discussing to standardize to the 2 Day SAS like PacCup.  Locally, the Newport to Ensenada Race (200 yachts) notified all registered vessels that they will be enforcing NOR requirements for safety training.  Putting it altogether, upgraded requirements coupled with stricter enforcement is driving the need for participants to certify, re-certify and take safety training seriously. Justin: In your words, why is it important to do SAS?\ John: Being a USCG Merchant Marine Master with Sailing Endorsement, I am responsible for the safety and well being of every crew and passenger on my vessel.  Tropic Thunder exceeds minimum requirements of safety gear, policies and procedures.  Regardless, the best equipped, best designed and fastest vessel has no value without a trained and experienced crew.  The best safety products, equipment, policies and procedures have no value if the crew and passengers do not know how to properly use them. 7 Swimming Rules That Will Save Your Life

08:37
How to survive safe at sea. If you just don’t have much confidence in your swimming skills, our handy guide will help you finally feel like a fish in water. You can do it just make an effort! At the end of the video, you will find a small bonus that might save your life one day! TIMESTAMPS Overcoming Fear 0:53 Learn how to breathe while swimming 1:32 Making friends with the water 2:10 Learn how to use your legs 2:55 Learn how to use your arms 3:46 Treading water 5:21 Learn how to swim underwater 6:00 SUMMARY Don’t forget that safety comes first! And if you think it’s a good idea to swim after taking a glass of wine, you are wrong! Don’ swim if you have consumed alcohol! If you feel pain, dizziness, cramps, get out of the water immediately! Don’t follow others’ example in jumping from a pier - it can be extremely dangerous! Swim only on well-maintained sandy beaches, in places without strong currents, where there are lifeguards and where the water is regularly checked. Somali Pirates VS Ship's Private Security Guards

01:50
The fight between Somali pirates and a Private security guard on board a cargo ship. When pirates were trying to board the ship, the security guards fired dozens of rounds at the pirate vessel which eventually retreated. This Incident took place in the Indian ocean in 2012. It has come to prominence again following an attack on an oil tanker in March. In which I show you how anchoring is done on mega-ships with the use of windlass or simply by gravity. A detail breakdown of the components that make up the windlass. Brief explanation of scopes and catenary, anchor watches and anchor circle. Anchoring can be very dangerous if not done properly because it often involves massive amount of weight up more than 90,000kg in just the anchor alone without the chains. Floating is better than swimming for sea survival, says RNLI

01:39
New figures released today show 162 people lost their lives on UK coasts in the last year, with adult men accounting for 74% of deaths and 77% over the past five years. • Only 3% of Brits know how to react if they unexpectedly fall into cold water • 40% would follow a potentially life-threatening instinct of immediately trying to swim • Coastal fatality figures released today show that 162 people lost their lives on UK coasts in 2016 We’re told to trust our instincts but today the RNLI is calling on the public to fight their instincts should they get into trouble in UK waters and, instead, remember one simple skill – floating. Sudden immersion in water any temperature below 15C puts people at severe risk of cold water shock. This triggers the instinctive but life-threatening reaction to gasp uncontrollably, thrash about and try to swim hard. This reaction is the worst thing to do and can quickly lead to drowning as it increases the chance of water entering the lungs, increases strain on the heart, cools the skin and reduces buoyancy by letting air escape from clothing. The RNLI’s advice is to float for around 60-to-90 seconds – the time it takes for the effects of the cold shock to pass and for you to regain control of your breathing. The recommended floating position is to lean back in the water and keep your airway clear while keeping calm to maintain breathing levels. You should then be in a better position to attempt to swim to safety or call for help. Only 3% of respondents in the RNLI’s research cited floating as the first action they would take if they fell in to cold water unexpectedly. 40% of respondents said their immediate reaction would be to swim, while 2% said they would panic – two of the instinctive responses the RNLI is urging people to fight. Others said they would remove clothing (4%); do nothing (3%); hold their breath (1%), and 4% said they would not know what to do. Coastal fatality figures released today by the RNLI show 162 people lost their lives at the UK coast in the last year alone, with adult men accounting for 74% of deaths and 77% over the past five years. With the charity’s national drowning campaign Respect the Water now entering its fourth year, this year the RNLI are calling on the public to fight their instincts. RNLI Coastal Safety Manager Ross Macleod says: ‘Through our Respect the Water campaign, we want to start a national conversation about water safety. We’re asking the public to remember this lifesaving advice, share with others and practice the survival skill of floating – it could be the difference between life and death. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : • The fatality figures quoted are for water-related fatalities from accidents and natural causes in UK tidal waters. The figures for 2012–2016 are: 163, 167, 163, 168 and 162. • In 2016, swimming, jumping in and general leisure use of the water accounted for 25% (40) of the deaths, walking and running 20% (32); commercial use of the water 16% (26); sailing and boating 10% (17). Unknown activity was 16% (26). WEBLINKS: www.respectthewater.com #RespecttheWater

Pilot Embarkation - Gangway Access - Unsafe Practice at Sea CHIRP Maritime Safety

08:33
CHIRP Maritime Safety 05 2017 The hazards of Pilot boarding Throughout 2016, the International Maritime Pilots’ Association (IMPA) held a safety campaign focused upon the standard of pilot ladders and associated equipment. CHIRP supported this campaign and received many reports on the subject. This first report describes issues concerning pilot access near the non-parallel ends of a ship, and use of a retractable platform. The second report highlights the difficult challenges facing the Master and the pilot boat skipper during a pilot boarding operation in adverse weather. A pilot should not feel pressured to board and should abort any boarding where conditions are considered to be too hazardous. A safe means of access – at ALL times. An account of a homemade spreader being used to support an accommodation ladder. Please keep both your reports and your responses coming, because both contribute to the success of Maritime FEEDBACK. CHIRP always protects the identity of our reporters. R5 (Daily Vlog 8 of 21) So obviously a bit of safety information in here for the kids. To be extra cautious I decide not to sleep as I get closer to the only island I would encounter on this trip. This causes a few problems and perhaps a bit of delirium. We have the “Annoying thing of the day” segment and some nicer wind. 16 Questions That Could Save Your Child’s Life

10:01
How to protect your child from kidnapping? Essential safety skills for kids: 10 important rules every child should know and follow. Show this video to your little one! It is absolutely unacceptable to take food, toys or any other things from strangers. You have to teach your child that they can only occasionally take something from your neighbors who you know very well but nobody else. There is no such thing as a free lunch, and your child must know this from a very early age. Children must know that their parents are people who they can trust and if anything bad happens, they can come to them for help. If you find out that your child is threatened on the Internet, you should tell your child that there is no way the bad guys can get to him. After that call the helpline and explain the situation. The will take the necessary measures. TIMESTAMPS - What should you do if your parents are away and someone is trying to open the door? 1:15 - Should you take candy from a stranger? 2:02 - What should you do if the power socket starts steaming and there’s no one else at home? 2:33 - An adult stranger is asking for help. Should you help them? 3:06 - What should you do if you’re attacked by a pack of dogs? 3:35 - You’ve just met someone you age. Should you go to their place if invited? 4:06 - What should you do if you smell gas at home? 4:43 - If you are waiting for an elevator and some strangers come up, should you go with them? 5:02 - What should you do if you notice you’re being watched? 5:32 - If you are home alone, who can you let in? 6:02 - What if a stranger grabs you and doesn’t let you go? 6:27 - What if you find yourself in a large crowd of people? 6:57 - What if you’re on the street during a large thunderstorm? 7:27 - What should you do if someone is threatening you or your family on the Internet? 8:10 - Your friends want you to play with them on the frozen river. Will you go? 8:42 - Can you take medicine from the first aid kit if your parents are away? 9:17 SUMMARY - It takes a minute to call the parents and tell them about what’s going on, and then there are three people (the kid and two parents) informing others instead of only one frightened child. Besides, parents can try to calm their child down and remind them how to call the rescue service and what to tell them. - It is absolutely unacceptable to take food, toys or any other things from strangers. You have to teach your child that they can only occasionally take something from your neighbors who you know very well but nobody else. - Your child should know that if there is a risk of fire in your house or apartment, they must never try to put out the fire on their own. The first thing they should do is get out of the building as fast as possible. - If someone is asking your child for help, they should just clearly say «no» and leave. Don’t get us wrong: helping people is nice, but only when they really need help. - Fast movement, loud noises can only provoke animals to attack. If the kid has a school bag, they should throw it aside to try to divert the dogs’ attention. - No matter how friendly somebody seems, they can turn out to be anyone. Your kid should understand this: there is nothing wrong with refusing an invitation. - What should you do if you smell gas at home? Walking outside and calling the fire brigade is the best course of action. - Being locked in a tight space with a group of strangers can be extremely dangerous. There is nowhere to run if something bad happens. So, children should turn down such offers. - If a child notices that someone seems to be following them, they should head straight to any public place: a supermarket, a park, a hair salon. - No one the child doesn’t know. Whoever they seem to be, whatever they look like, children should never open the door to strangers. - There is nothing wrong about shouting and fighting. - Teach your children to avoid crowds. If this happened anyway, they should know that moving against the crowd is the worst thing they can do. - Finding a safe place should be the top priority. Any place will do: a shop, a mall, an entrance hall. - Children must know that their parents are people who they can trust and if anything bad happens, they can come to them for help. - Playing hockey, skating or any other activities that involve ice should be practiced only in specially designed places. - All medicine that you have at home should be hidden in a place where your child can’t get to it. இந்தியாவின் துணிச்சலான மாலுமி | IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea | Captain . Radhika Menon

04:14
Captain Menon was nominated by the Government of India, for the rescue of all seven fishermen from the fishing boat Durgamma, which was adrift following engine failure and loss of anchor in severe weather," the statement said. Food and water had been washed away and they were surviving on ice from the cold storage. The IMO Council, meeting for its 116th session in London, endorsed the decision of a panel of Judges that Captain Menon displayed great determination and courage in leading the difficult rescue operation, the statement said. "Through wave heights of more than 25 feet, winds of more than 60 knots and heavy rain, on 22 June, the second officer on the Sampurna Swarajya spotted the boat 2.5 kilometres away, off the coast of Gopalpur, Odisha. Captain Menon immediately ordered a rescue operation, utilising the pilot ladder and with life jackets and buoys on standby," it added. It took three arduous attempts in the lashing wind and rain and heavy swells before all seven weak and starving fishermen, aged from 15 to 50 years old, were brought to safety on board the ship. Captain Menon is the first woman captain in the Indian Merchant Navy and will be the first woman to receive the IMO Award for Exceptional Bravery at Sea. The Awards ceremony is expected to take place at IMO Headquarters on November 21 at the end of the first day of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC). This annual Award was established by IMO to provide international recognition for those who, at the risk of losing their own life, perform acts of exceptional bravery, displaying outstanding courage in attempting to save life at sea or in attempting to prevent or mitigate damage to the marine environment. ----------------------------- Subscribe Us ---https://www.youtube.com/TamilKalanjiyamvideos ----------------------------- -------------------------------------------- Also Check the Following videos -------------------------------------------- +Panama Canal == https://youtu.be/3-IWizJ7vUo + Suez Canal == https://youtu.be/9kd6mmsLscg + Corinth Canal == https://youtu.be/2NjhWlyHraU + Watch Mosquitoes using 6 needles to suck blood === https://youtu.be/_k4lZDNTAMs + Dengue awareness ==== https://youtu.be/hASJLP7YZFs + Common Habits that damage our kidneys https://youtu.be/DUMZdjMGmUk + See what Happens To Your Body When You Get Hiccups==== https://youtu.be/01VrkulGaAk +See What Happens To Your Body When You Drink Turmeric Water https://youtu.be/SAfAF-uHHfY +See What Happens to Your Body When You Drink Coconut Water https://youtu.be/YD32TTPusaE +Effects Of Skipping Breakfast https://youtu.be/BzSbRI5cPZg +Benefits of Curry Leaves https://youtu.be/kGC-rwXWC5s +See What Happens To Your Body When You Drink Water Inbetween Meals https://youtu.be/Ds84-Usz3P4 +Health Benefits of Lemon https://youtu.be/Re4buHNBIjw ---------------------------------- Thanks For Watching ---------------------------------- ============== Tags{Ignore This} ============== ship tamil rescue of fisherman in sea tamil radhika menon captain ship captain life in tamil international maritime organisation tamil news tamil ship ship video tamil why ships float tamil tamil why ships float tamil kalanjiyam tamil kalanchiyam kalanjiyam kalanjiyam tamil tamil videos tamil tamil language tamil news news in tamil ships in tamil tamil kapal kapal kapal tamil

None would forget the tragedy that struck in February last year when the northern parish of St. Patrick’s was plunged into mourning. Tragedy struck during a boating excursion between the mainland and the sister island of carriacou. The excursioners were heading to Carriacou carnival. The Royal Grenada Police Force is urging those travelling to the sister isle for this year’s celebrations, to ensure that all systems are in place for a safe journey.
