That is not the case at all. If you are able to commit to a consistent but short effort you will be amazed at how much better your abs could look in a short period of time when combined with a focused attention to what you eat as well. In this video, I have a short 7 minute ab workout for you to do along with me. As you will see and feel, an ab workout does not have to be long to be effective. As a matter of fact, I would probably say that the longer the ab workout goes, the less effective it becomes. The key to this working is that it is short enough to allow you to do it on a regular basis without having to fight to schedule it into your day. Remember, the key to getting a six pack is consistency. Now, don’t think that just because you might be doing the same set of exercises that it is becoming less effective. It is not. The choice of ab exercises in this workout is broad enough so as to cover all of the major functions of the abs. There are bottom up movements that better hit the lower abs. There are rotational movements that are initiated from the bottom up and the top down to really hit the rotation capabilities of the core muscles. There are also top down movements where the shoulders are lifted off of the ground as opposed to the legs, which are situated at the end of the workout to allow you to keep training your abs when they are fatigued. When there are purposeful ab exercises in your workouts they do not have to be long. The point of this video is to give you a follow along ab workout that you can do anywhere. There are no special pieces of equipment needed to do this. All you need is your body and some space on the floor. You might actually need a bit more than that, and that would be a heavy dose of determination to try and resist the burn of these exercises as you do them. Remember, the pain from ab training is usually only temporary. As soon as finish the exercise and the lactic acid starts to clear the abdominal muscles, you feel normal again. See if you can follow the entire ab workout along with me, resting when I do. If you need extra rest for some reason, don’t be bashful - take it. Maybe you can only do 40 seconds of one of the 60 second exercises. That’s ok, do what you can and rest for the remainder of that exercise. As you get stronger on these you will be able to do the whole thing without extra rest. In order to have your abs to show, you need to reduce your body fat (have a decent diet that facilitates your body fat reduction) and perform cardio the 1st thing in the morning. Now that you have the body fat reduced, you need to develop the abs and create separations. Here's how... Alpha's Go To Ab Routine Basic bench crunch - after getting into position, keep legs slightly bent, come up and pause. Alpha gives alternates for less and more intense options. 15 reps with dumbbell then 15 reps without the weight. Do three (3) sets of 30 reps. Hanging Leg Raises - Alpha gives options to perform this exercise with pros and cons. It's about control, that little squeeze, and that little pause. He gives options to make the exercises less and more challenging. He also gives an option to hit the obliques. Go for three (3) sets. Cable Crunch - it's a personal favorite of Alpha but is more difficult to feel. Your butt doesn't move. Only the upper body moves with a pause. Go for 15 - 20, three (3) sets. The Ball Crunch - not the most masculine looking but one of the most effective. Chin to ceiling with the ball in the small of your back, go up, pause, and down. If you quiver, all of your muscles are engaged. You don't need to go super fast. Go 10 slow with a pause. Then go for 10 pulses. It's a great way to finish off those abs! String of two of these together for a superset. Alternate back and forth for 3 sets. Perform twice a week with a few days in between. If you squeeze, go slow, and contract, you'll feel it for days. RIPPED ABS - Beginner Ab Workout (5 Minutes!)

If you are a beginner and want to get ripped abs you need to do two very important things. The first is you need to train your abs the right way and not just throw together a few random ab exercises. The second is you need to get your body fat down low enough to see the results of your hard work, and this happens through a commitment to good nutrition. In this video, I’m going to show you a perfect ab workout for beginners that will take just 5 minutes to complete. Each of the five movements shown here is to be performed for one minute apiece. If you find that you need to rest at any time, you may do so. The goal is ultimately for you to be able to perform this 5 minute ab workout without needing to stop and rest at all. The first thing you will notice is that none of the exercises in this ab workout require any equipment at all. I want to be sure that everyone can give this a try. The only thing you will need to have access to is somewhere to hook your feet. As you will see however, you do not want to hook your feet under something to perform your situps, but rather over something so you can pull back and activate your hamstrings. To begin, lay on the floor with a phone timer or stopwatch nearby. You will start your clock when you begin your first exercise called the laying halos. This is a great lower ab exercise that employs time under tension in the most difficult portion of the exercise (the lift) when your abs are most engaged. Try to perform 30 seconds of this with your feet moving in a clockwise direction and 30 seconds with them moving in a counterclockwise diretion. Next, you stick with the lower abs but start to incorporate more of the obliques with an exercise called the reverse corkscrew. This involves simply curling your pelvis off the floor and twisting your butt towards the right or left (being sure to alternate on each rep). The twisting of the pelvis engages the obliques, while the lifting of it off the ground is what activates the lower fibers of the abs more directly. Keep the beginner ab workout going by moving onto what we call our midrange movement. Here you are getting equal activation from the top down as you are from the bottom up. This is a pendulum reach out plank. The idea here is that it takes a boring static plank and adds more difficulty and dynamic movement to it without sacrificing the stability benefit that it provides. Step one foot out to the side and then the other, followed by a reach out in front of your body with one hand and then the other. Continue alternating these steps one after the next for the entire 60 seconds. Next, we perform a variation of the ab scissor exercise called the chainsaw. This is still involving a fluttering of the legs with them held off the ground to activate the lower abs, but it also employs rotation from the bottom up. The additional rotation will help once again to attack the obliques and turn this into a brutal but effective beginner ab exercise. Finally, the situp roll ups is a great upper ab exercise that is initiated from the top down. This tends to be a stronger movement than does the lower ab exercise options, which is why it finds itself positioned at the end of the workout when you still have some energy. The key is to hook the feet over and not under something to disengage the hip flexors and activate the hamstrings. This will have the effect of decreasing the overactivation of the hip flexors which can cause back pain. Also, you want to slowly roll your trunk off the floor once vertebra at a time and paint it back down the same way. This will ensure good eccentric control of the abs and further protetion of the spine. I mean after all if we can focus on the best exercises then we can get faster development of our six pack abs. Luckily ACE also known as the American Council on exercise conducted a study that tested out different ab movements & found which ones produced the best results. Ive been recommending certain ab exercises over others for a while now & its nice to see that every one of the exercises that they said work best are ones that I've been advocating for quite a while. This study was conducted several years ago but it's a fairly in-depth study comparing 13 different exercises. The researchers primarily looked at muscle stimulation & activity & ranked the exercises from best to worst. So let's jump right in with the top 6 best of the bests starting with number 6. The long arm crunch, this is one that I talk about all the time, & I highly recommend that you try it with a weight. The long arm crunch primarily focuses on working the rectus abdominus which is the muscle that most of us refer to as the six pack. You can do it without a weight but I recommend taking a moderately heavy weight load & pointing it straight to the ceiling. I recommend using a heavy weight because another 2009 study published in the journal of physical therapy in sport found that using weights for your abs can greatly increase stimulation of the rectus abdominus. Also using weights for your ab exercises allows you to progressively overload your abs just by upping the weight over time which is a necessary factor for any of your muscles to grow. So back to the long arm crunch you want to crunch up just enough to lift your shoulder blades up off the ground & then come back down while keeping your arms pointed straight towards the ceiling the whole time. It won't take much to feel the burn from this exercise, but this is an exercise that I usually recommend doing a dropset with. Meaning you would do ten to twenty reps of weighted long arm crunches & then immediately drop the weight & perform twenty more reps with only your body weight & your hands stacked on top of eachother. If your wondering about the exact number of sets to do this exercise & the other exercises that Im about to talk about stayed tuned because at the end i'll give you an excellent ab workout that includes these top 6 movements. But moving on next up on the list ranking as the 5th best exercise for six pack abs we have the ab roll out & the torso track. These are both pretty much the same exercise except one is done with an ab wheel while the other one is done on a slipper track. This is one that you probably won't be doing with weights, but by training yourself to roll out further over time you can gradually put more stress on your abs allowing you to progressively overload your abs over time. To start this exercise get on all fours with your arms locked out the ab wheel directly under your chest. As a beginner do not roll out all the way because you can hurt your back. Once you get comfortable as a beginner sit your hips back to give you some leverage. Once your ready you can proceed to more advanced levels where you roll all the way out to the point where your body winds up being almost flat on the ground at the end of the movement. This is one of my favorite ab exercises & not a lot of reps are needed to break down a lot of muscle tissue & get stronger. Next we have the vertical leg crunch, but I usually refer to this exercise as the reverse crunch. Same exercise just different terminology. To perform this exercise start with legs straight up towards the ceiling & your hands either folded across your chest or preferably behind the head. Once again lift your shoulder blades up off the ground just enough and then lower back down. This is once again another exercise that I recommend progressing with weights as soon as possible. Once ready for a weight i recommend using a dumbbell & holding the dumbbell across your chest or putting the dumbbell behind your head to make it more intense. My Top 5 Ab Exercises For Men Over 40 -- With Clark Bartram

Don't Let Your Age Limit Your Fitness: http://go2.sixpackshortcuts.com/SH2Cl -- Hey everyone, My name is Clark Bartram, and I'm here today filling in at Abs After 40, because well, I am over 40 and we all want to get great abs right?! Today I'm going to show you 5 of my favorite ab movements. The first one is hanging leg raises, and this is going to work your abs of course, but it's also going to integrate the use of your hip flexors. For these, I'll usually do about 3 sets of 10-20 reps, whatever burns them out. Don't forget the key part of this - blow all your air out before you contract your abs and bring your legs up. If you want to really isolate your abs and not allow your hip flexors to become integrated into the hanging leg raise movement, you can start with them already contracted and your knees raised, and then do a hard crunch with your abs to raise your hips up. I also want to show you guys the proper way to do cable crunches - because most guys I see doing this are doing it incorrectly. You want to focus on the crunching movement from your sternum to your belly button. Most guys, when they're doing cable crunches.... They're really doing most of the work from their hips. To do this correctly, keep the cables right at your forehead, and like I said - just focus on that sternum to belly button movement. We can also stay on the cable machine so that we can do side cable crunches and really work on those extra little muscles that tie into the abs that really set a ripped midsection apart from simply just having six pack abs. Hold the cables with both hands on one side, and even though it's a small movement.... Just squeeze those muscles on the side and tightly crunch that little section. Next up, we're going to try hanging leg raises again, except this time we're going to crunch slightly to the side to get those obliques and serratus muscles again. Last thing - to really focus more on the lower abdominal muscles (although to see those abs you really need to focus better on your clean eating).... We're doing weighted V-ups, attaching a cable strap around the ankles. In this video, I’m going to show you a single ab workout routine that you can do for the next 22 days straight that is going to help to carve up that midsection of yours and give you a jump start on getting your abs to pop year round. There are just 6 exercises in this ab workout, each one hitting the abs from one of their primary functions. No equipment is required to perform this ab workout routine. Because of this fact, there are no excuses either. You will be able to do this workout for your abs in just minutes and you won’t need any elaborate setup to get it done. It can be done in the comfort of your own home or in the gym if you so choose. The key to this ab workout plan is that you perform it for 22 days straight. There are two reasons for this time period. First, it gives you an opportunity to start seeing noticeable changes in your abs particularly if you pair this with a dedicated effort to improve your nutrition. You will never be able to see your abs if they are covered in fat. You need to start getting serious about your diet and eating if you want to strip away the fat and show the results of your hard work and effort. The second reason for doing this for 22 days is to help this become part of your lifestyle. They say it takes 22 days of doing something for it to become a habit. We are going to try and create a positive habit here by getting you used to training your abs. Don’t worry. The abs are a resilient postural muscle group that is built for high volume and frequent training sessions. The exercises in this ab workout follow a specific sequence. They start with those that target the lower abs using bottom up movements. These are where the top of the body from the waist up stays rather stationary while the bottom does the movement. This can be seen in the heels to the heavens exercise. Next you perform a bottom up rotation movement. This one is going to be filled by the step through planks. Here you want to try and keep your upper torso still again while you create rotation from the bottom using your legs to step through and across your body. You will be able to feel this burn almost from the first few reps. Keep going until you reach the extinction time as described in the video. Move on next to the midrange movement known as the “X” man crunch. This is a great way to bring both the top to the bottom and the bottom to the top. Aim for completing the 12 reps that are suggested for extinction on this ab exercise and move onto the final three exercises. These will hit the obliques, top down movements and top down with rotation. You will see that this is not going to take very long. The benefit and power of this ab workout is that it is hitting the abs and obliques from every angle and in each of the 6 primary ways of hitting them. Spending any more than 10 minutes training your abs is a colossal error since it is extremely unnecessary in order to see results. Your abs respond best to hard, intense exercises done for a short period of time but done consistently over the course of many days. In this video, I’m going to show you a 7 minute ab workout that proves all you need is intensity and not length for good abs. This entire ab workout can be done on the floor without any equipment at all. It is going to cover all of the major functions of the ab muscles and incorporate other muscles of the core as well such as the obliques. The key is that you are going to move from one exercise to the next without resting. You earn one 30 second rest at the midpoint of the workout but that is it. If you keep the exercises moving you never give your abs a chance to breathe, so to speak. You apply the intensity and then step on the gas throughout the rest of the workout. This allows the workout to stay difficult even if the individual ab exercises themselves are not the most challenging that you have performed. This one starts with a bottom up movement (that also tends to incorporate a lot of rotation as well) and this is the figure 8. For the figure 8, you are literally doing what it says and moving your legs in the shape of an 8 laying on its side. This forces you to not blend two of the more challenging movement patterns into one exercise but does so when you are freshest and most capable of doing it uncompromised. Next you move onto the long leg windshield wipers. If this is too difficult for you, you can shorten the moment arm and bend the legs rather than keeping them straight. This essentially lightens the load felt by the abs and allows you to perform the exercise if the long leg variation is too difficult to maintain for the entire 60 seconds. This moves onto the twisting piston exercise. This is a plank variation but much more effective because of the dynamic nature of it. You not only have to have the strength to stabilize your body to avoid excessive movement here, but the plyometric aspect of the mini jumps, turns your core into a shock absorber as well and allows it to be much more functional at the same time. Finally, a well deserved 30 second rest break. Come out of the break and go right into the Starfish Crunch. This one is no joke! Keep both your arms and legs out wide as you perform this six pack exercise and twist to one side as you come up. This will be both a midrange and top down rotational movement, with the added benefit of hitting the oblique muscles as well. Finally, finish with 2 minutes of rotational ab circles. This one is the easiest to perform, but since we saved it for last in the ab workout, will feel much more difficult (and effective). Remember, abs are made in the gym and revealed in the kitchen. So, what makes this tip so effective? First of all, this works in any ab workout. You can opt to do your ab workouts at home or at the gym and this will work equally well either place. This also helps to improve the quality of the abdominal muscle that you do develop. Too many people worry about simply getting through an ab exercise without worrying about what muscles are doing the work to get you there. If you want to see faster results from your ab workouts you have to learn how to contract your abs on every rep of every ab exercise. I show you how to apply this to two of the most popular home ab exercises around, the crunch and reverse crunch. Performing the exercise correctly technically does not mean that you performed it as effectively as you could have. In the example of the crunch, I show you how simply lifting your shoulder blades off the ground and keeping a posterior tilt is technically considered a proper rep. However, if you want to make the abs do much more work and in turn develop much better six pack abs, you will have to forcefully contract your abdominals on every rep. You cannot coast your way through an ab workout if you want it to deliver serious results. In order to get ripped 6 pack abs at home or at the gym you need to worry about the quality of every rep you perform. You may have found some success at developing the top portion of your abs...maybe you see those top two or 4 abdominal muscles starting to pop out but as you get lower you're experiencing more and more difficulty getting that bottom section of your abs to show. And one thing's for certain if you want to see a full complete looking six pack with a slim v cut waistline you're going to have to be doing the right things. And even though diet is of Paramount importance the exercises and the workouts that you're doing to build your lower ab muscles are almost equally as important. So that's why I want to go over the 5 best lower ab exercises that you're actually probably not even doing. These are gonna be by far the most efficient lower ab exercises out there that'll put the most stress on that bottom portion of your abs so you could experience the fastest results possible. Before we dive into the first exercise I'd like to mention that your rectus abdominus which is that outer layer six-pack looking muscle is 1 muscle group. So we can't strictly isolate the lower abs without also incorporating some upper ab work as well. But what we can do is we can put more tension on the lower ab area by doing exercises from different angles, by adjusting our form and by incorporating more efficient training techniques. And I'll be going over all of that in today's video. Let's start with one of the most efficient lower ab exercises that you're probably not doing, it's called an incline leg raise with a pulse up. The inclined angle of this movement presents an advantage that most hanging and lying flat down movements dont have. Meaning incline leg raises are going to be far more efficient then regular leg raises done flat on your back because with regular flat leg raises you can only bring your legs up to about 60 degrees before the tension comes off of your abs. Once you go past that and get closer to 90 degrees your bones and joints begin to carry the load instead of the abdominal muscles you're trying to target. Also as you lower your legs back down the tension quickly switches over to your hip flexors before you even get back to your neutral starting position. The regular "hanging" leg raises are also not quite as efficient because when you're perfectly vertical it's once again easy to incorporate a lot more of your hip flexors into the movement. There is a modified way to perform hanging leg raises in which you can target your abs much more effectively which i'll go over in a bit, but with the incline bench, I want you to understand that you're getting a perfect angle to Target the abs. To do this exercise you would use the same bench that you would use for decline sit ups except instead of having your legs above your head your head is going to be above your legs. For this reason you're going to need something to grab behind your head to keep yourself from sliding down the bench. Once you're in position with your hands gripping something behind your head you're raising your legs straight up all the way until you're feet are pointed up towards the ceiling. Once your feet are directly pointed towards the ceiling you're going to do a pulse up by raising your hips and your whole lower body off the bench up towards the ceiling in a straight line. don't bring your feet and legs behind your head while doing this keep them straight up towards the ceiling. After the pulse up slowly lower your hips back down to the bench and then lower your legs back down almost all the way until you touch the bottom of the bench and then go right back up. With your very first rep you'll notice how much more of a range of motion you'll get out of this exercise versus regular flat and hanging leg raise movements. As you progress with this exercise you can try to add a weight between your feet as well to make it more challenging. But due to the fact that this movement is much more challenging then regular leg raises it'll take you some time to progress to the point where you can add a weight. Let's move on to my second favorite lower ab movement that can be done almost anywhere with minimal equipment. If you're looking to lose body fat and get your abs popping - http://vshred.fit/lowerabexercises Lower abs are typically the hardest part of the abdomen to get showing. Sometimes, this can be due to genetics.. sometimes this can be due to the fact that you just have too much body fat and need to focus on lowering that first.. but then other times, it's because people have the wrong form on their lower ab exercises. So fix the way you do these 5 exercises and watch as your lower abs "magically" start to appear! 1. Reverse Crunches - You want to make sure your starting position is with your thighs perpendicular to the ground. This will cancel out any hip flexor activation and prevent as much momentum as possible. From there, really focus on rolling your butt up off the ground and squeezing with your lower abs. 2. Leg Lift Extensions - With these, again, you want to make sure your legs aren't dropping all the way to the floor as then you would be hitting your hip flexors. For the most part, you want to keep your legs pointed at the ceiling and then extend your lower body up off the ground, creating that curvature of your lower spine and stimulating your lower portion of your abs. 3. Mountain Climbers - These are a well known exercise but also done wrong A LOT. Instead of just jumping back and forth from foot to foot.. You want to really emphasize driving your knee upward as far as possible and crunching at the abs. If you do this right, you should feel a tight squeeze in your abs with each kick. 4. Air Sprints - You will need a dip bar or something to elevate your feet off the ground.. From there you will act as if you are doing an upright mountain climber by driving your knees up to the air while slightly leaning forward to, again, create that curvature in your lower back and engage your lower abs. 5. Ankle To Bars - For this, you will need a pull-up bar or just something to hang from. Most of the time when you see any kind of a leg lift exercise, you see people dropping their legs all the way down.. This is wrong, because this primarily hits your hip flexors which is why your thighs often get tired before your lower abs. Instead, start with your knees bent and out in front of you at 90 degress, curl your knees up and act as if you are touching the front of your ankles to the pull-up bar. Then when you come back down, stop at 90 degrees with your knees.
