PolAir 3 discovers Abandoned Vessel 'WINDIGO'
On Saturday 23 February 2013, Polair 3 were undertaking operations south of Coffs Harbour for flood relief, when they have come across an abandoned yacht located on Bongil Beach. Polair 3 landed nearby and the crew were able to board the yacht, checking for signs of life or if any person may have been aboard. The crew were able to establish that no person was onboard the yacht, and the investigation of how the vessel came to be on Bongil Beach swung into action. The yacht, bearing the markings 'WINDIGO' was abandoned at sea in November 2012. The two occupants of the vessel were rescued from the 'WINDIGO' after the vessel capsized in heavy seas. The rescue operation involved assets of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal New Zealand Navy and a French Naval vessel. The Polair crew were astounded to learn that 'WINDIGO', after capsizing in heavy seas, was abandoned 435nm south-west of Tonga, and 738nm north of New Zealand. The vessel has been drifting since November 2012, and has eventually come to rest on Bongil Beach. Det Supt Mark Noakes, Commander of Polair said, "Polair has been in contact with the owners of 'WINDIGO', and they are now making plans to travel from New Zealand to retrieve their yacht. The crew of Polair are happy to have played a part in the retrieval of 'WINDIGO', after her amazing journey across the Pacific Ocean

Sailors Discover Dead German Sailor During Clipper Boat Race
Courtesy to Clipper Race A group of sailors who were participating in the Clipper Round the World race discovered the body of a lone German sailor inside an abandoned boat drifting near the Philippines on January 31. The deceased sailor, later named in a statement from the Clipper race as Manfred Fritz Bajorat, was reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition when he was found. The LMAX Exchange team abandoned the Clipper race after spotting the drifting boat, reportedly in the hope that they could help “the stricken vessel and any fellow sailors marooned.” “After boarding the drifting vessel, we unfortunately discovered the body of a lone sailor. We remained on site, under instruction, until released by the USCG who continued with the recovery," the team were quoted as saying in a statement on the Clipper website. “As a team we found comfort that he was found and that peace will be given to his friends and family who have been looking for him. Our words and thoughts were shared on board as he now rests in peace.” This video has been uploaded with the permission of the content owner for Storyful's subscription clients. WHY IS THE MYSTERY SPY AFTER THE HIDDEN ABANDONED SAFE TREASURE MAP!? Well, Stephen Sharer and the Sharer Family don’t exactly know why but what they do know is the treasure map and the iPhone found while “EXPLORING ABANDONED ISLAND FOR LOST TREASURE” has led Stephen and Grace Sharer to search for an abandoned ghost ship. Steven and his sister Grace left the Sharer Family house, loaded up their spy supplies onto their boat and set sail onto the sea. On the hunt for treasure, Steven and Grace kept an eye out for this ghost ship. A few miles down the ocean water Steven soon spotted an abandoned ghost shipwreck. Standing tall in the shallow waters, is an old rusted metal ship. Was this a pirate ship with hidden treasure or what was this ship used for and why did it wreck and become abandoned? This ship is huge and looks super haunted. This is not pretend play pirate ship this is real life. Stephen drove his boat closer to the shipwreck and as the Sharers got closer, they notice the ship becoming more haunted, super spooky and they wanted to explore more of this abandoned ghost ship! The treasure map they found in the abandoned safe led the Sharers to this location so Stephen and Grace put on their life vests, gathered their spy gear and headed off to explore for any underwater treasure above and below this pirate ghost ship. As Stephen and Grace got closer they noticed some very haunted noises and mystery shipwreck pieces. They were careful when exploring and then all the sudden they saw someone spying on them from a jet ski! It looked like the Mystery Spy!! The same spy that left a mystery note at their front door at the Sharer Family House!! Comment #Haunted if you think this boat is an old pirate ship full of treasure!! The Ourang Medan In 1947 (or, 1948, according to some accounts), a disturbing distress call was picked up by two American ships at British, and Dutch listening posts in the Strait of Malacca. The message said, “All officers including captain are lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew.” This was followed by a burst of indecipherable Morse code, then a final, grim message The men at the listening posts triangulated the message and determined it came from a Dutch freighter vessel called the Ourang Medan. A conscripted American vessel named the Silver Star was dispatched on a rescue mission. The rescuers entered a living nightmare. After hailing the Ourang Medan and receiving no reply, they boarded the vessel. Corpses littered the decks, all of them with the same terrified expression and their arms reaching out as if grappling with an unseen assailant. Even the ship’s dog was, its mouth curled in a snarl. As they investigated, finding even more corpses in the boiler room, the rescuers made a strange observation. Despite it being over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the air in the lowest part of the hold was extremely cold. None of the sailors could explain the phenomenon. They also couldn’t find any damage done to the ship itself. The crew of the Silver Star decided to tow the Ourang Medan back to port. However, as soon as they finished fastening the tow line, they saw smoke boiling up from the lower decks, specifically from the Number 4 hold. The boarding party barely had time to cut the tow line and return to the Silver Star before an explosion ripped through the vessel. The explosion was so strong, it actually lifted the ship out of the water before it disappeared below the waters of the Strait of Malacca. One theory as to what happened on the Ourang Medan is that it carried some form of nerve gas that escaped, everyone and causing the explosion. It doesn’t account for the strange cold down below, however. At any rate, we will probably never know for sure what happened. 9. The Carroll A. Deering In August 1920, the Carroll A. Deering set sail from Norfolk, Virginia with an experienced captain and a crew of 10 men bound for Rio de Janeiro with a cargo of coal. Its original captain, William H. Merritt, fell ill shortly after departure and was replaced by Captain W. B. Wormell. Despite this sudden change, the ship delivered its cargo on schedule and set sail to return in December. So far so good! Captain Jacobson aboard the Cape Lookout Lightship in North Carolina sighted the vessel bound for its home port on January 29, 1921. The Carroll A. Deering hailed the lightship and reported that the ship had lost its anchors. Captain Jacobson took note, but couldn’t report it because his radio was out. He later described the crew of the Carroll A. Deering "milling around" suspiciously on the fore deck of the ship. Two days later, the schooner was seen stuck on Diamond Shoals, a treacherous stretch of water. Rough waters kept anyone from reaching the wreck until February 4, when rescuers discovered the Carroll A. Deering to be abandoned. Two lifeboats, personal belongings, key navigational equipment, some papers, and the ship’s anchors were also missing. Despite an investigation by the fledgling FBI, no trace of the crew or the ship’s logs were ever recovered. 8. The Octavius In 1761, a ship named The Octavius departed London loaded with cargo bound for China. It reached its destination and took on another load for the return trip. By then, it was 1762. The captain decided to take advantage of unusually warm weather and risk an attempt through the Northwest Passage. Even though no one had been able to navigate it successfully yet. No one saw the Octavius for thirteen years and people assumed it succumbed to the Arctic. On October 11, 1775 the whaling ship The Herald, while working in waters west of Greenland, spotted a ship drifting along. They boarded her only to find the entire crew below decks frozen solid. The captain sat at his desk in his cabin, frozen stiff with pen in hand apparently in the middle of a log entry. The ship was The Octavius. According to the last log entry, dated 1762, the captain’s chance at conquering the Northwest Passage had failed and the ship was locked in ice. Carroll A. Deering Have you ever read the books "A Series Of Unfortunate Events"? If you have, you might see some similarities here...The Carroll A. Deering had a very odd set of events happen to it before it was found abandoned on the shores of North Carolina without a clue as to where the crew went. 6. High Aim 6 Here's a strange one for you. The High Aim 6 was a Taiwanese ship that was found completely abandoned. In 2003, the Australian Navy found the 80-foot vessel that was going full throttle. The ship had plenty of fuel and supplies to keep the crew going. There was also a hold full of valuable tuna that they had most likely gone out to fish to bring back. 5. The "Unsinkable" Joyita Many ships that have been built to be "unsinkable" have proven to be just the opposite. And I’m not talking about the Titanic, but the MV Joyita. A ship with a much more mysterious history. 4. St. Patrick The Bering Sea is known as one of the most treacherous waters in the world. It's the setting of the show Deadliest Catch, where brave crab fisherman fight the fierce winds, waves, and freezing oceans to get rich hunting for King Crab. However, there are many tales of ships that have sunk in these waters, and one of the most haunting tales was of the scallop vessel the St. Patrick. 3. The Yellow Submarine I appreciate all the Beatles fans who get that reference! And there was in fact a real yellow submarine. If you go to Coney Island, and take a look at its creek, you'll notice that there's a lone submarine sticking out of the water. The whole creek is a ship graveyard full of burned and rotting ribs of old ships. 2. The "Pearl" Of Submarines When you think of submarines, you often think of them as a military instrument, especially in WWII and the Cold War, but it might surprise you to learn that submarines were actually used long before that for non-military expeditions. And one was lost to history for nearly for 150 years. 1. Mary Celeste The Mary Celeste was a ship from 1872 that was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship was actually a merchant ship of all things, so it being abandoned is a bit odd. But when you dive deeper, it gets even weirder. The ship was on its way to the Azores along with 7 crewmembers, the Captain, and his family. Trying to sail an abandoned sunken boat.
I stumbled across this submerged abandoned boat sticking out of the water whilst camping by a huge lake in the French wilderness. It had been completely stripped out and left to rot, seemly for years on this deserted shore miles from anywhere. I decided to attempt to pull it out, repair it if needed and refloat it to take out on the lake and over to the island in the middle. after many attempted and 2 days of trying, and nearly burning out my already weak clutch on my camper, the stubborn boat finally came free from it's resting place and pulled up onto the shore. Once empty of water and crap, I got it out on the lake and started me journey, but it turned out to be a rather brief one... Unfortunately my drone picked this time to sh*t itself and corrupt half of the footage out on the lake, I'm totally gutted but luckily there was enough to make this video work. Disclaimer: A lot of people seemed to have failed to realise that this is a travel vlog channel. I there for only did this purely for entertainment and to see just if it could be done. The boat was n the middle of no where as seen. I had no interest in taking the boat nor had access to any equipment because, well... I’m travelling. 😆 Music by Dubsaduba https://soundcloud.com/dubsaduba

Most Mysterious Abandoned Ships
From the MV Lyubov Orlova to Teignmouth Electron here are Most Mysterious Abandoned Ships . Would you sail to these destinations to check out and adventure through these abandoned places? 3 - Carrol A Deering This 5 mast schooner was built in 1911, yet sailed her final voyage only a few years later in December of 1920. When the cargo vessel filled up with coal and set sail from Brazil towards Virginia, no one knew the crew would never be seen again. In January of 1921, the ship was spotted by a lighthouse keeper, a crew member on the foredeck informed the keeper that the Deering had lost her anchors, but due to a malfunctioning radio, this message was never sent. Three days later the ship was found aground on Diamond Shoals off the coast of North Carolina. The Deering had been completely abandoned, the logs, navigation equipment and two lifeboats were missing. The kitchen appeared frozen in time, midway into preparation for the next day's meal. The US government launched an investigation but came up with nothing. Diamond Shoals is very close to Bermuda, the ship would have had to pass through the Bermuda Triangle to end up in this desolate location, causing many to speculate that some paranormal may have taken place which led to the abandonment of the Carrol A Deering. 2 - Teignmouth Electron This sailboat hit the waters in 1968, when its captain, the British businessman Donald Crowhurst attempted to win the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race, the world's first ever solo round-the -world yacht race. Donald lacked experience and began having troubles within days of starting the race. Donald pulled the ship off to rest along the coast of South America and began falsifying his records, making up chart positions for where he would have been had he been in first place in the race. Donald's intention was to re-enter the race after all the other boats had gone all the way around the world and scoop up first place for himself. He kept one logbook detailing his thoughts and the other was meant to be opened once he won the prize to ensure credibility. After 243 days at sea and providing month's worth of fake records sent in to the race organisers, a message informed him that nearly everyone else had dropped out of the race and he was a shoe-in to win, however, by then his mental state had declined dramatically. Later that year, the Teignmouth Electron was found in a state of disarray, abandoned and adrift. The detailed log books outlined Donald's deceit, as well as ramblings which detailed his derailment into insanity, including instructions on attaining transcendence. Donald's body was never recovered. Leaving many to wonder, did the troubled man take his own life, or could something else have happened to him out there, along on those cold waters. 1 - Mary Celeste On December 13th in 1872, this small two-masted sailing vessel entered the New York Harbor, she had a cargo of over 1700 barrels of Alcohol. But, it became apparent quickly that something was very wrong with the ship, the boat moved irrationally, despite the captain being known for his talent as a seaman. After two hours of attempted hails with no reply, the boat was surrounded and boarded. The out of control ship was found to be abandoned, all of the ship's papers were missing except the captain's log, with the last entry being dated as November 25th, stating the ship had passed the Azores. There were no signs of violence or struggle, though it was noted several times that the ship appeared to have been vacated in a substantial hurry. A six-month supply of food and fresh water was found stored in below decks. All of the crew's personal possessions as well as the cargo of the ship appeared untouched, after further investigation, 9 barrels of alcohol were found empty. Over the next 13 years, the Mary Celeste changed hands 17 times, with several tragic deaths, leading many to whisper that this ship was cursed. No one ever heard from the original crew again.

Abandoned Ships, Ferries and Liners
But that’s not what ships are for. A very well-known quote about ships, and so very true. One of the more recent ships that had to be abandoned in a hurry, was the Italian Cruise liner, the Costa Concordia. Tragedy struck in 2012, and 32 people died in this awful incident. The ship was valued at $500 million, and the captain – who caused this tragedy, was imprisoned for manslaughter. 7 - Rough Seas Ahead… 1951 was the year the SS Independence was launched. This luxurious liner was often frequented by Hollywood stars and royalty. Ownership changed in the 1970’s, and then in the 80’s returned to her original makers. By the 90’s, money was tight and it was difficult to keep her afloat. 2001 her owner filed for bankruptcy, and the ship was resold several times. The ship was due to be scrapped in India, but the government forbade her entry, as she was still filled with toxic waste that would damage their coastline. The ship was finally beached off Alang, and torn to pieces. 6 - Once upon a time… It may not look like much now, but this boat was built in 1865 – and these are still some of its remains. Called The Darra, she used to be a fast tea clipper working for the Orient line. She was then an immigrant ship for the new Australians in 1887 and eventually gutted by fire in 1899. It was towed to Quail Island in 1951 where its remained ever since. 5 - A sailor’s life for me… This record setter ship is called the SS United States. And in 1952 it managed to travel across the ocean in just 3 days, 10 hours and 40 minutes. The ship was retired in 1969 and many years later, towed to Pennsylvania, where it’s now a rusty, futile eye-sore. 4 - A little seasick… 1955 was the year the beautiful MV Aurora was launched in West Germany. She has sailed under many different names, including Delos, Polar Star, Pacific Star, Xanadu, Expex, Faithful and Aurora. She could carry 1600 passengers, and was sadly declared abandoned in 2007. Her current owner is Christopher Wilson, and she’s currently being restored. Sadly, there seem to be a number of legalities concerning this girl, and there’s a good chance she’ll end up being sold for scrap. 3 - Where good ferries go to die… We’ve seen an airplane graveyard before, but this is Staten Island’s Abandoned Ferries – which is just as eerie. It’s the final resting place for boating wrecks, where they are left to rot. The ferries are particularly eye-catching, as they played such an important role at some point in their lives, ensuring that people were able to get to and from work. It’s sad to see them rotting away like that. 2 - The motion of the ocean… This liner comes out of Yugoslavia, and was a cruise ship specifically built to cash in on the lucrative market of travelling through the Alaskan and Antarctic waters. The MV Lyobov Orlova sailed for 25-years before it was seized due to huge debts owing on it. She was sold to Neptune International Shipping in 2012, who had intentions of breaking her up for scraps – however, whilst transporting her, the rope snapped and they lost her in the water. They spotted her floating in Irish waters in 2013, and the story goes that they sent a tug out to fetch her and tow her into international water and deliberately cut her loose. Where she is now, I’m really not sure. 1 - As free as the ocean… Free Enterprise the 3rd was a massive vehicle and passenger ferry crossing from Dover to Calais non-stop since it was built in 1966. She ran perfectly till 1984 and was sold and renamed Tamira. Sadly, new owners weren’t as successful with her and they sold her in 1985. She ran well again through till 2004, when she sadly ran aground in a well-known dangerous reef in Saudi Arabia. She’s been grounded and abandoned ever since.

Abandoned Boats Pile Up In Staten Island Harbor
THE FLOATING GRAVEYARD Abandoned boats are drifting in Staten Island's Great Kills Harbor and no one seems to know what to do with them. Local residents are outraged. They say at least four boats have been recovered from the waters and told Diana Blass of Chasing News that dozens of abandoned moorings remain. The boats are hidden in high tide and have been described as a ticking time bomb. NYC's Parks Department said it is not responsible for abandoned boats and moorings in state-owned waters.

Abandoned Yachts and Post Hurricane Disaster. Adventure #33
Im still trying to find a system to film personal videos as well as my videos at work. This one doesnt have a cool intro or outro but im happy to be uploading again. I felt the need to upload a video about this place ever since the first time i saw it. The disaster these people went through was horrific but they have come out of it so strong. I saw much more than what is in this video, this is just what i had time to film.

abandoned boats in pella Iowa
some real halloween stuff here. found some old boats at some old abandoned marina. marina is on other side on the tree line and is really eerie. plan to make a descent video of it as well. there are trees growing in front of much of the marina doors if that isnt any indication to its forgotten and aged state. this boat is but one of many items left behind. why did they just up and leave?

Abandoned Boat Graveyard
Located in Kent, England is this rather bizarre boat graveyard. The abandoned boats have been left to simply rot away into the sand..
