When learning art history, it’s important to know how the details and nuances of individuals, but it’s also really helpful to understand how things are simplified and grouped together. Art history is divided into periods and movements. The difference between the two is time and intent. While art periods are usually based on historical eras, art movements are decided by artists as a collective. IMPROVE YOUR ART STYLE | Inspiration & Isolation

08:39
Beginners Drawing Course: https://drawanythingusee.com/educational-video-nod-subs Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lironyanil/ My books on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Liron-Yankonsky/e/B00EY73YUS/ Snapchat: LironYan3 Hi friends! In today's video I want to talk about using deliberate inspiration and isolation periods to improve your art and personal style. By deliberately focusing on inspiration for a while, you expand your horizons, learn new approaches you may have never thought of and expand your comfort zone. By deliberately focusing on ISOLATION for a while, you hone your own skill and chip away at the marble statue that is your art (which is, in my opinion, the way to develop a personal art style). I find that I alternate between these two states about every 2-3 months. I'm just now wrapping up a 3-months long isolation period, and am ready to soak up some new inspiration, follow other artists' tutorials and learn new things. This is based on my personal experience, and is definitely not set in stone. I encourage you to find what works for you, and also share your opinion on the topic by leaving a comment below. I hope you enjoyed this one, and I'll talk to you soon (: - Liron *** MUSIC CREDITS *** Clear Sky by jimmysquare https://soundcloud.com/jimmysquare Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/ Music provided by Audio Library https://youtu.be/Y8gsuWR4kXE

What is Expressionism? Art movements and styles

04:17
The term Expressionism became commonly used in Germany around 1910. Developed from the work of Symbolist artists, expressionist art movements across Germany and Austria emerged; including Die Brucke in Dresden and Der Blaue Reiter in Munich. Artists associated with these groups placed the expression of feelings over all else in their work through the bold use of colour, exaggeration of form and emphasis of the spiritual over the earthly. This short film tracks the story of Expressionism in art, from its beginnings in the early twentieth century, through to its influence on artists today.

Neoclassicism and Romanticism

12:24
Romanticism was an artistic, literary, and intellectual movement that originated in Europe toward the end of the 18th century and in most areas was at its peak in the approximate period from 1800 to 1850. It was partly a reaction to the Industrial Revolution,[1] the aristocratic social and political norms of the Age of Enlightenment, and the scientific rationalization of nature.[2] It was embodied most strongly in the visual arts, music, and literature, but had a major impact on historiography,[3] education[4] and the natural sciences.[5] It had a significant and complex effect on politics, and while for much of the Romantic period it was associated with liberalism and radicalism, its long-term effect on the growth of nationalism was perhaps more significant.

What is ART MOVEMENT? What does ART MOVEMENT mean? ART MOVEMENT meaning, definition & explanation

03:17
What is ART MOVEMENT? What does ART MOVEMENT mean? ART MOVEMENT meaning, definition & explanation. An art movement is a tendency or style in art with a specific common philosophy or goal, followed by a group of artists during a restricted period of time, (usually a few months, years or decades) or, at least, with the heyday of the movement defined within a number of years. Art movements were especially important in modern art, when each consecutive movement was considered as a new avant-garde. According to theories associated with modernism and the concept of postmodernism, art movements are especially important during the period of time corresponding to modern art. The period of time called "modern art" is posited to have changed approximately half-way through the 20th century and art made afterward is generally called contemporary art. Postmodernism in visual art begins and functions as a parallel to late modernism and refers to that period after the "modern" period called contemporary art. The postmodern period began during late modernism (which is a contemporary continuation of modernism), and according to some theorists postmodernism ended in the 21st century. During the period of time corresponding to "modern art" each consecutive movement was often considered a new avant-garde. Also during the period of time referred to as "modern art" each movement was seen corresponding to a somewhat grandiose rethinking of all that came before it, concerning the visual arts. Generally there was a commonality of visual style linking the works and artists included in an art movement. Verbal expression and explanation of movements has come from the artists themselves, sometimes in the form of an art manifesto, and sometimes from art critics and others who may explain their understanding of the meaning of the new art then being produced. In the visual arts, many artists, theorists, art critics, art collectors, art dealers and others mindful of the unbroken continuation of modernism and the continuation of modern art even into the contemporary era, ascribe to and welcome new philosophies of art as they appear. Postmodernist theorists posit that the idea of art movements are no longer as applicable, or no longer as discernible, as the notion of art movements had been before the postmodern era. There are many theorists however who doubt as to whether or not such an era was actually a fact; or just a passing fad. The term refers to tendencies in visual art, novel ideas and architecture, and sometimes literature. In music it is more common to speak about genres and styles instead. See also cultural movement, a term with a broader connotation. As the names of many art movements use the -ism suffix (for example cubism and futurism), they are sometimes referred to as isms.

What is Symbolism? Art movements & styles

04:25
Symbolism was an innovative literary and artistic movement which originated in late nineteenth-century France and quickly spread to the rest of Europe. Symbolist artists looked to the world of dreams and the imagination for inspiration, rather than trying to create direct representations of nature. Where did the term come from, and what effect did Symbolism have on future generations of artists?
