London’s Knife Crime Emergency: ON A KNIFE EDGE (Full Length Documentary)

57:15
In the wake of multiple knife-related murders in the UK's capital, activist and ex-gang member Josh Osbourne takes an in-depth look at the "code of silence". This is an entrenched mindset that regularly stops young people from going to the authorities, in fear of being labelled a "snitch". Britain's most senior police officer attributes the recent spate of murders to austerity, drug markets, police cuts and social media, yet despite a controversial crack-down targeting drill music videos, the number of deaths keep rising. Josh follows the grieving families struggling to find justice and answers in their own communities. He speaks to an active gang member about how reputation is a fiercely protected social capital and shame can be a gateway to violence. He learns that surviving a knife attack is no longer seen as a close call, but a badge of honour, and how the consequences of knife crime stretch beyond simply life and death. The film explores how the internet has profoundly altered the way conflicts are instigated and unravel on London's streets, and how the communities affected are reacting to this. As London remains in the throes of a knife crime epidemic, VICE takes a look at one of the most important domestic issues of our time. Britain's Biggest Heists The Baker Street Robbery

45:59
The Baker Street robbery was the burglary of the safe deposit boxes at the Baker Street, London branch of Lloyds Bank, on the night of 11 September 1971. The robbers had rented the leather goods shop Le Sac, two doors north of the bank, and tunnelled a distance of approximately 50 feet (15 m) passing under the intervening Chicken Inn restaurant. To avoid being overheard, they only dug during weekends. They initially used a thermal lance to try to break into the vault but ultimately had to use explosives. Robert Rowlands was a ham radio operator who lived in a fifth floor flat on Wimpole Street.[4] He overheard conversations between the robbers and their rooftop lookout at 11:15 pm.[4] He contacted local police, who did not take him seriously but suggested that he tape record the conversations while the robbery was in progress. There was however insufficient information to identify which bank was being robbed. At 1 am, Rowlands contacted Scotland Yard, who immediately sent officers to his flat in Wimpole Street. At 2 am, a senior police officer alerted radio detector vans to track down the gang's exact location. Police checked the 750 banks within 10 miles of Rowlands' receiver, including the Baker Street bank. At the time, the thieves were still in the vaults but the police failed to realise this because the security door was still locked. The thieves got away with £1.5m cash[5] (2010: £16.5m)[6] and valuables from over 260 safe deposit boxes. The total haul was believed to be near £3m (2010: £33.1m). The robbers left a cheeky message on a wall: 'Let's see how Sherlock Holmes solves this one'. It has often been reported that after four days of news coverage British authorities issued a D-Notice, requesting that such reporting be discontinued for reasons of national security and the story disappeared from newspapers.[7][8] It is claimed by national newspapers in recent years, that some of the security boxes contained embarrassing or nationally sensitive material[3][9] namely compromising sexual photographs of Queen Elizabeth II's sister, the late Princess Margaret, and that the purpose of the request was thus to protect the British Royal Family.[3][10] Rowlands, the aforementioned ham radio operator, claims that the police attempted to prevent him from talking to the press by means of the D-Notice, which he felt was an attempt to hide police incompetence.[11] He also claims that police threatened to prosecute him for listening to an unlicensed radio station.[11] An investigation some years later showed that a request had never been made to the D-Notice committee at that time.[12] Furthermore, a D-Notice has no legal status, being a mere request and not a legally enforceable order. The Times newspaper was still reporting about the case over two months later.[13] Other recent reports suggest that the identity of the criminals and their sentences have never been revealed.[3] However, The Times (amongst other newspapers) reported in January 1973 that four men had been convicted of the robbery at a trial at the Old Bailey. Three of these men were named as: Anthony Gavin, 38, a photographer from Brownlow Road in Dalston; Thomas Gray Stephens, 35, a car dealer from Maygood Street in Islington; and Reginald Samuel Tucker, 37, a company director from Lee Street in Hackney, who all pleaded guilty and who each received twelve years imprisonment. The fourth man, Benjamin Wolfe, 66, a leather goods dealer from Dovercourt Road in East Dulwich, pleaded not guilty but was subsequently convicted and received eight years. Wolfe had signed the lease on the shop used by the robbers using his own name.[5][14] Two other men accused of handling banknotes from the robbery were acquitted. According to one press report, the police believed that the mastermind of the crime was another London car dealer who was never apprehended.Thomas Stephens and Reg Tucker had sentences reduced to eight years on appeal. A semi-fictional version of the robbery is the subject of the film The Bank Job (2008), which explores a popular theory of the crime that argues the robbery was either set up by, or later covered up by, MI5 to secure sexually compromising photographs of Princess Margaret, which were being kept in a deposit box at the bank by known radical Michael X. While this theory has usually been considered an urban myth, there have been some individuals, including George McIndoe, an advisor to the film, who claimed to have knowledge of the actual robbery,[16] purporting that this was indeed the real motivation for the robbery.

LITTLE BRITAIN - Andy loves Hitler

01:25
Lou & Andy Little Britain is an award winning character-based comedy sketch show first appearing on BBC radio and then television. It was written by stars Matt Lucas and David Walliams. Its title is an amalgamation of the terms 'Little England' and 'Great Britain', and is also the name of a Victorian neighbourhood and modern street in London. The show comprises sketches involving exaggerated parodies of British people from all walks of life in various situations familiar to the British. These sketches are presented to the viewer together with narration in a manner which suggests that the programme is a guide — aimed at non-British people — to the ways of life of various classes of British society. Despite the narrator's description of great British institutions, the comedy is derived from the British audience's self-deprecating understanding of either themselves or people known to them. An American version of the show, entitled Little Britain USA was created in 2008. This series is shown on HBO in the USA, & also shown in Canada. It is shown on the BBC in the UK. Many of the characters on the show have their own often-repeated catchphrases. Many have become well-known in the United Kingdom, and the show has gained a mainstream following.

DOCS: Dirty Britain - Ep.1

45:26
SUBSCRIBE to Barcroft TV: http://bit.ly/Oc61Hj The dirty secrets about the way modern Brits live are revealed by the filthy work of the men and women who clean up after us. This series graphically shows the immense scale of the rubbish and dirt the nation produces and the epic challenge involved in keeping it out of our sight. Silvo and Alex are portaloo cleaners who, every day, get up close and personal with the pungent and often surprisingly large by-products of our builders dodgy diets. In the rural tranquility of the Cotswolds, Richard and his team of extreme cleaners are called in to tackle a squalid house after a couple suffering from mental health issues move out. Meanwhile Pest Controller Jim England faces an uphill battle saving a Hackney resident from a rat infestation that has lasted 23 years. Britain in Industrial Decline, 1970's. Archive film 95566

13:50
A textile mill in the Midlands. A close up and then a wider shot as the camera draws back. It's steam powered and built in 1870. A montage of several working parts of the mill. An elderly woman with glasses and short permed hair makes her way through the midst of the machinery. Another woman, even older, grey hair and thick glasses sits working at the machine. A woman leave s the factory with her large tan hand bag. She wears a floral print dress and moves hastily to the door. A man works on a circuit board, followed by a shot of a blueprint of the design he is working on. Three men in white overalls are sitting while working on similar projects. A factory chimney spews smoke. A close up of the "Stop" button on some part of industrial machinery which dissolves into a shot of cables hanging lifeless in a derelict building. A montage of shots shows several decrepit buildings of factories around Britain. A slow pan of leaflets of the NHS for "Free dental treatment and glasses. Reduced charges." It is dated April 1975. Other leaflets read "Free milk & Vitamins", "Free prescriptions and "Family income supplement". A close up of a woman's hard, filling in a form and ticking boxes. The title of the form is "For Official Use". The welfare state A doctor is talking to a patient. Another, younger doctor talks to a nurse. Tower bridge is shot at sunset with the river glowing orange /gold in the sun. Silhouettes of people passing in front of this scene. Office workers in suits walk by. Close up of a sign that reads "CRAC" and underneath, " Coningham Road Advice Centre" advising people to "Come in for help and advice if you have a problem you can't solve". A young woman explains to an elderly man in a hat what forms he needs to claim his benefits. He nods in resignation and looks slightly embarrassed by his predicament. In the midst of her explanation, he nods as she goes through a seemingly endless list. Shots of the necessary forms punctuate his face nodding. Close up of Malcolm Muggeridge's face as he talks about the expectancy of the British people for state sponsored home, education and health care. A shot of the interviewer's back as he faces Muggeridge dissolves into another close up of Muggeridge's face. Slow pan of British landscape. The shot starts at a lake and pans around to include a few lakeside houses and kids running towards the water. Elderly people in traditional white bowling outfits play bowls. A montage at a seaside resort. A man walks along a crowded beach, others sit in deckchairs as a seagull swoops past. An elderly woman sleeps, an elderly man licks an ice cream, another elderly man in a hat dozes, as does another. People of all ages sit in deckchairs watching the passing parade. A tram runs past in the background. IN the foreground young an d old woman pose in deckchairs. A man, possibly a butler, polishes a silver tea pot. More tea pots await their turn on the table in front of him. A very elaborate, ornate bed post is the background to a housekeeper bringing in fresh flowers to a bedside table. An elderly woman watches a store assistant place item in a shop window. A close up of young people's faces and the wonder down a high street. A return to the shot of the old man sleeping in deckchair. His head rolls back and this wakes him up. A Concorde takes off straight into the camera. A side view of the plane taking off and then another from above, then from behind as the landing wheels drop, finally one of the Concorde landing. A motorbike is being driven at high speed. The camera's view is through the handlebars, giving us a view of the road flying past and the instrumentation from the riders perspective. There are several shots of the rider form different angles. A man in a nasty chocolate brown suit with a cream tie explains how to start a British motorcycle. He is in a motor cycle dealership. He jumps on the kick start mechanism four times before it starts. He then goes to the Japanese bike and simply turn a key. It roars to life. A montage of shots shows row upon row of British made cars waiting to be sold. A shot of the "Chrysler" assembly plant in Ryton with low level factory in the background. A close up of a newspaper article "Mr Wilson to meet Chrysler chief on British group's crisis". The sub headline reads " No closure without talks" with a chart showing the downtrend of the company's market share. British Leyland factory in the foreground is followed by a montage of car emblems: "Jaguar", Morris Oxford", " Triumph", "MG BGT" , "Austin" , "Rover" and "Wolsely". A shot of a Leyland truck dissolves back to the picture of the Leyland factory with hundreds of cars outside. A shot of a steel plant show various scenes of a steel plant in operation. The next shot is of a piece of paper detailing the government's shareholding in several industries. A slow motion shot of a North Sea oil rig dissolves into workers on the rig at work.

Britain's Mountain Challenges: Striding Edge

04:14
Trail magazine and the British Mountaineering Council present Britain's Mountain Challenges. In this video we're looking at Striding Edge: one of the finest ridges in the whole of the Lake District. Leading onto the summit of Helvellyn, at 950m the park's third highest mountain, it's a dramatically positioned and excitingly slender route of huge appeal to walkers and scramblers throughout the year. As with all ridges it becomes extremely challenging in strong winds or when there's ice or snow underfoot (so make sure to pick conditions suitable to your level of experience!), but when conditions are right it can offer a truly exceptional mountain experience. Striding Edge can without doubt be described as a Lakeland classic – one that every lover of the Cumbrian fells should experience in their walking career. Look out for other videos in the 'Britain's Mountain Challenges' series featuring some of the UK's finest and most thrilling mountain landscapes.

Britain's most inconsiderate motorist parks car blocking the pavement

00:36
This is the moment an inconsiderate driver blocks the whole pavement with his car - then has a go at a wheelchair-bound pedestrian when he complained. The video, shot by resident Mick Symes from his flat across the road, shows the rude motorist storming out of a barber shop halfway through getting a buzzcut haircut. The driver, who looked to be in his late 20s, had parked his silver Vauxhall across the pavement on zig-zag lines, just yards from a pedestrian crossing, on Christmas Eve.

Made In Britain: China Boosts Iconic Brands

02:40
As Britain contemplates the prospect of a triple-dip recession, a growing number of iconic 'Made in Britain' brands are focussing their attention on China. In an interview with Sky News, the chief executive of Rolls-Royce said the Chinese market was key. "The Chinese are in love with Rolls-Royce," Torsten Muller-Otvos said as he showed off the company's latest model, the Wraith, to the Asian market at the Shanghai Motor Show this week. "It is definitely good for Britain because 90% of our cars produced in Britain are exported and 10% roughly stay in the home market. "That is basically very good for business and for the economy in Britain." Rolls-Royce is now owned by Germany's BMW but the brand itself is still iconically British. The company produced 3,575 vehicles in 2012 from its factory in Chichester, West Sussex. It wouldn't reveal how many of those came to China but, along with the Middle East, China is a vital market. "When you look at the long-term forecast for so-called ultra-high-net-worth individuals, this is forecast to grow 3-5% year by year," Mr Muller-Otvos said. These ultra-high-net-worth individuals are people like Chen Anzhi, a businessman from Shanghai. He owns three Rolls-Royces and agreed to take Sky News for a spin in one. "British to me means very high quality of workmanship; attention to detail. I appreciate that," Mr Chen said at the wheel of his bright green convertible Roller. "Look at my suit!" he said, taking both hands off the steering wheel of his vastly expensive car. "I think I am wearing Dunhill today. Dunhill's also British I think? "I bought three of these Rolls-Royces. Presently I have two: a white one, this green one and I had a burgundy one but I gave it away." Mr Chen represents one of a growing number of people in China with an eye-watering amount of money and a love affair for luxury and all things British. "I love British cars, British furniture, I love to go to London," he said. "I enjoy the very luxury lifestyle, yes. Chinese and British - good friends!" We pass Shanghai's flagship stores, including British ones like Burberry. The reflection of our more than ostentatious car is visible in the windows of the shiny shop windows. "Fourteen years ago you rarely see BMW and Mercedes," Mr Chen said. "Now you see Rolls-Royce and you think 'wow'! What happened here to the economy? It's booming." Jaguar Land Rover is another 'Made in Britain' brand - albeit now Indian owned - which is increasingly popular in China. The Chinese market is now the company's largest globally, allowing it to invest in new jobs in the UK and set up a new joint-venture project in China. At this week's Auto Show in Shanghai, the new Jaguar F-Type and the new Range Rover Sport were both unveiled to the Asian market. Range Rovers, often in garish colours with added body-kits, are a regular sight on the streets of Beijing and Shanghai. Back in Mr Chen's bright green Rolls Royce, I ask him the awkward question. How much did it cost him? "I knew that question was coming," he laughs! "It's close to $1.8m dollars. The price is crazy, I know, but after you drive this car, the enjoyment and pleasure, you just forget about the price."

McLaren 675 LT - Britain's Best Driver's Car | Part 7 | Autocar

06:41
Can the McLaren 675 LT Spider become Autocar's best driver's car of the year? Every autumn we set out to name Britain's Best Driver's Car, in our annual new sports car extravaganza. Last year the Ferrari 488 GTB saw off all comers to gain the title. This year the 488 GTB is invited back as reigning champion, and goes up against 10 all new sports cars including the Porsche 911 R, Honda NSX, McLaren 570S and BMW M2. This is the Mclaren 675 LT Spider, the 'long tail' inspired by the race version of the McLaren F1. With a devilish 666bhp it's the most powerful car at this year's event, but will that make it one to remember around the Anglesey race track? New videos are uploaded to Autocar each week. 43:56
The team meet people who've ended up thousands of pounds out of pocket after being let down by the companies or individuals they've done business with. Among the stories, a costly scam targeting users of one of the country's best-known websites is revealed, and the team unpick the extraordinary case of a woman owed a small fortune in unpaid rent - and the astonishing reason why the letting agent really should have been able to tell her what was going on. Plus, a loophole that means the best way of checking if a second-hand car has been clocked isn't always reliable, and why hundreds of students have ended up with no qualification after shelling-out for the course. Also, lots more money-saving hints and advice, and more problems tackled at the Rip Off Britain Pop-Up shop.

Britain to ban new petrol and diesel cars from 2040

Contact [email protected] to license this or any News Direct video For story suggestions please contact [email protected] RESTRICTIONS: NONE Britain will ban all sales of new petrol and diesel cars from 2040 in order to reduce air pollution, a move that could potentially revolutionize the automobile industry. UK authorities say diesel emissions have been poorly controlled and diesel vehicles contribute an overwhelming amount of nitrogen dioxide to outdoor air pollution, which is linked to about 40,000 premature deaths in the country a year. In order to tackle air pollution, the UK government will ban all sales of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040. Hybrid vehicles will not be included in the ban. According to Reuters, electric cars only account for less than 5 percent of new car registrations in the UK, while the majority of the sales are still in petrol and diesel cars. There are more than 4,500 locations with public charging point installed in the UK but industry experts told Reuters that more infrastructures would be needed to cope with the change. France also announced it's ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars by 2040. On the city level, Paris, Madrid, Mexico City and Athens announced plans to ban diesel vehicles from city centers by 2025. RUNDOWN SHOWS: 1.
