PLEASE READ! STYLEHAUL http://www.youtube.com/user/stylehaul?feature=watch http://stylehaul.com/ If you haven't heard already, I won't be making tutorial video until late November because of my exams. I want to put all my energy on my studies right now, so I'm postponing all the tutorial video. But, I'm not going to stop making videos. In fact, I'll keep uploading every other week a time lapse video or something that doesn't take me a few hours or even a week to make. Tutorials take ages for me to make. With that said, I hope you guys are OK with this :) TUMBLR: http://lovetheart-fashion.tumblr.com BLOG: http://lovetheart-fashion.blogspot.com DEVIANTART: http://zyrabanez.deviantart.com INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/zyrarrr TWITTER: https://twitter.com/zyrabanez FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zyra-Ba%C3%B1ez/398602333574526?ref=hl FAQ [Frequently Asked Questions] 1. What materials do you use for your drawings? I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencils and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I am taking Studio Arts in senior high school right now. It's not from that class that I learned what I know. I am learning new things from the class, but so far, not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I go to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, its pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. 4. How old are you? I am now 17 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something I like. I am currently in an Artist's Block which has been going on since late October 2011, and I am finding ways to get out of it. I'll keep you posted on how I break through it :] 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. http://www.monkeysee.com/play/5156-how-to-draw-clothes-on-a-fashion-figure this is a very basic tutorial but seriously, this tutorial helped me when I was just starting. How to Color a Sketch | Fashion Sketching

03:39
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501959-How-to-Color-a-Sketch-Fashion-Sketching Learn about coloring fashion sketches from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Something that is very important as well in fashion design is coloring your fashion sketches. After you've inked in the whole situation, you can take color pencils, pastels, wash, watercolor, whatever you want. I'm going to do this one with some pastels, because they're really nice to shade. So you just start out on the outside, you pick your color blocking, which this dress has a lot of color blocking in it. With pastels less is more because they spread around the page really well. And this might or might not be the final color that I decide to do this dress in, but it's mainly used to create color blocking, so that you could see what the final design is going to be. I'm going to go heavy on the shoulders to show shadow, in here and here, and here I'm going to hit this with some more red. I want to go with a paler shade of red here. It's a very volcanic dress so far. And we're going to go with, you know, we're going to go with red sleeves since they're in line, should be nice, actually is more of a burgundy or a wine color, excellent. So now you take your handy dandy smudging device, and work the color in. And by creating those lines on the outside, you automatically create shading, because now you're just drawing the color into the panels or design lines of the dress. One thing to keep in mind with pastels is after you get done finished working with one color, if it's not in the same family, you have to use a different side of your smudge stick, otherwise you're going to turn your whole dress the same color, which you don't want. Then you'll have to redraw the whole thing, and that's a pain. So I have these oranges in here, I'm using just the side of my smudge stick. Make sure you blow on it every once in a while, because that pastel is just basically powder compressed into a stick. And I think I want to darken these a bit, because these are going to be a different color. It really, I just love pastels, it's because it's instant gratification, it's like, damn, it's colored. And if the pastel happens to go outside the line, it's no big deal, you can just take an eraser to it later. I'll go in and do the skin toning later, but that is one way using pastels to color in a fashion sketch.

How to Add Color, Texture & Shadows | Fashion Sketching

04:08
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501940-How-to-Add-Color-Texture-and-Shadows-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to add color, texture, and shadows to a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you indicate color, texture and pattern. I prefer to use colored pencils, they're great because you can get all sorts of harder lines and what not, and then you can smudge it all over the place to give yourself more depth and shadow. So I’m going to go with these three colors, different shades of blue for this dress, and just start of really, really light. I’m going to connect my colors across giving a beautiful butterfly inspired design. And I’m going to go in with another color. And this particular dress is going to be made out of a very smooth mesh, so the texture itself that I’m trying to accomplish here is something that is just smooth, and just not too textured. So that’s a challenge in itself but it seems like it’s working out for me. After you’ve done all of your light shading, I think I’m going to leave some panels of white in there, which will look cool. Now you go back in and you do harder lines wherever you think there should be a shadow. And usually if you’re doing a dead on sketch, somebody that is facing dead on to you, all the shadows are going to be on the sides of their body, et cetera, et cetera. You can create a source of light if you want, but pretty much it’s like looking in the mirror, and take a look at yourself and where the shadows fall on your body. Don’t worry about these hard lines that you’re making because you go in later with your smudge stick, which is a wonderful thing, everyone should have a smudge stick, and blend all of this together. And you want to kind of like, anything that's falling to the back of your design, you want to give it a little bit more color, because that’s just saying it’s in the back and it’s shadowing it more. So I think I’m going to keep that white in there. So now I’m going to go in with my smudge stick handy dandy, and now you want to blend. You don’t want to mix your colors, so if you get too much of a blue in one corner of your smudge stick, you can chop it off, you can do all kinds of things. But I’m just going to rotate it and do it with a purple with that, which I got to do a little bit more purple shading here. I’m losing my shading. And now as the final step, just to indicate that this is mesh, I’m going to go over certain sections of the garment and just kind of create a meshy pattern. You don’t have to cover the entire thing, it’s just to get a notion of what is the fabric choice. I’m doing it on the white sections because it will show up the best. And that’s how you indicate color, shadow and texture.

My art materials to draw fashion sketches | Justine Leconte

This video shows you the art supplies that I use to draw fashion sketches: SKETCHING: HB and 2B grey pencils (I forgot to mention the erasers: a regular one, one that has a thin tip and a kneaded eraser which doesn’t leave residues on the sheet of paper) Graphite for quick sketching Charcoal pencil for the shadowing and to get really black backgrounds Ink pens (PIGMA 005, 05 and 1 // FABER-CASTELL Small, Medium & Bold) Fixative (either from the art supplies store or a simple hairspray) COLORING: Markers: Chartpak AD / Copic / Prismacolor (several colors + darker shades of those colors, warm and cold greys, several black tones, several skin tones and a blender) Color pencils: a regular box of colors will do the job (but you need white, black, grey and a skin tone) PAPER: Sketchbook in a format that fits your pre-made croquis, slightly see-through Marker paper (bleedproof) in a larger format. 11 Tips & Techniques | Fashion Sketching

04:04
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501932-11-Tips-and-Techniques-Fashion-Sketching Learn eleven fashion sketching tips and techniques from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. All right, here are some tricks of the trade, shortcuts, call them whatever you want but they're really going to help you out in fashion design. First thing is always have a good croquis that you've developed, okay? That's what's going to make everything easier when you're sketching your clothes. I'm just going to sketch and talk through this but, one thing is, you never want to start with pen, unless you're really confident. You always want a good mechanical pencil. You start your sketch in pencil; you know you can just always go in and erase the pencil. I'm going to do like a gown with a train here. I have my little croquis underneath so that's helping me out, making it go real fast. And another thing that you want to always have on hand, because even if after you've inked in your sketch, is whiteout. Whiteout is a great thing. It will never show up on a scan when you finally scan the finished product into your computer, because you can then print it out and have a gorgeous, clean version; that's another trick. So do your sketch, you scan it in, you lose all the whiteout and whatever else you've done to it; even if you've done patchwork or what have you, you'll never know. Photoshop is a good trick for coloring things in, though I don't use it, I'm kind of old-fashioned that way. You know you really don't have to draw hair. Hair is not that important. You don't have to draw hands if you don't want to; it's not about the hands. You want a good eraser because you are going to mess up, I promise. A definite don't is do not ink until you're ready because you don't want to have to redraw something. Especially if you have a client sitting right beside you; they're not going to want to sit there and watch you draw it all over again. Another great thing is to have a sketching kit that you can pretty much take with you wherever you go because you never know when you're going to get inspired to do what you're going to do. You want to have it on-hand so that you get that idea right out of your head before it's gone. It's happened to me a million times and I learned my lesson. Once I'm happy with the sketch, I will usually go in and give it some ink. And even at this point, you still can ink in the sketch and not worry about the pencil; that's what erasers are for, it's no big deal. So here we go. And try to keep your lines smooth and beautiful. And don't be fazed if they break because that just adds some dimension and what not, "character" we'll call it. She's in a long cap sleeve gown. I'm really into like elongating the body with seam lines; that's one of my things. And even if you don't go straight over your pencil lines, just kind of go with the flow; let your body feel it as you go. Don't over think it; that's a big no-no. Give it some bead work. And like you know, even if you're drawing lace, if you're drawing a plaid, what have you, as long as you have a piece of the fabric on the same page, it really could just be a little squiggle on the sketch; it's not really meant to be that literal. Don't get too hung up on those details. Because it's all about giving the notion of what the finished product is going to be and showing who you're making it for, or who you're trying to get your point across to, right there and then. Those are some of the tricks of the trade, shortcuts, et cetera.

What Supplies Will You Need? | Fashion Sketching

01:39
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501964-What-Supplies-Will-You-Need-Fashion-Sketching Learn what supplies you'll need for fashion design drawing from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Supplies for fashion design. There are so many supplies out there that you could choose from. The best way to go about it is to systematically try different things. You need your mechanical pencils. They're very important. Different level leads, as far as hardness is concerned. You need to have a beautiful pen that you feel really comfortable drawing with. From there you could start to explore how you're going to color in your fashion illustrations. Whether you want to use pastels. Whether you want to use watercolor, gouache. Whether you want to use colored pencils. I can go, there's many other mediums out there. But, what's most important is to find a medium that you're most comfortable with. And to work with it to the best of your ability. There's all sorts of other tools that you're gonna need. You're gonna need a good smudger, good smudging stick. It's how you create all your shading. You're going to need a great eraser. Because, lord knows, you're gonna make mistakes. And that doesn't matter, you can just erase it. White out is a great tool for finishing sketches. There's all sorts of things. Just really have fun with it and really get comfortable with using your tools. So play around. Experiment. Play around with different kinds of paper. There's marker paper. There's all sorts of vellums. Etcetera, etcetera. You could even use cheap, printer paper if you want. That's a great thing to just practice on. So those are pretty much all the supplies you need to create a fashion portfolio.

How to Draw a Figure | Fashion Sketching

04:35
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501928-How-to-Draw-a-Figure-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a figure for a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. All right. So let's draw a figure. One thing I always start out with a pencil, because you can always erase it, and it's a good way to just get the basis going. So I always start with the head. Just think about proportion as you're doing it. The head, then the neck. We do a straight line under the neck. A good trick is to make an X here for the body. And it's great that we're doing this in pencil, as I said before, because all of this can go away later. From here, we work with a lot of elongated triangles. I'm going have this girl have her hand on her hip. So I'm doing these elongated triangles, even a little triangle for the hand, because you're going to smooth it out later. We'll give her a little arm, hanging down. It can even cross into the hand, as I just did. We'll give her some legs, and you basically segment the legs into triangles. This is how you establish the kneecaps, you do like little inverted triangle that way. And even a little inverted triangle for the foot, as well. All right. Now we go in and we smooth it all out. She kind of has a short neck, but I'm not that concerned, I can always erase that and fix it, so whatever. Basically drawing her outer silhouette now. I'll give her some bust, give her some hips. This is such a great trick because everybody knows how to draw a triangle, and then you're just smoothing over, smoothing over. She's turning out on the curvier side, but I can always fix that later as well. I'll give her her feet. Which I probably want her in high heels. All right. So, once you've gotten this process down, you've gotten it all smoothed out, you're happy with this, you're happy with that, and in fashion illustration you always elongate the form. And the reason why is you have more room to render the clothing. And that is why we make them so tall and lanky. It gives us more space to render details. Okay, now I go in with my pen. I like a nice roller pen, you can use felt tip, whatever you like. And I ink it all in. I hate drawing hands, but I will give a good attempt for you. I'll just give her like a weird mitten, but whatever, you can fix that later. That's why we have White-Out. It's never a bad idea just to put her hands behind her body, because it's all about the clothes, it's really not about her hands. And even if I'm doing these lines kind of feathery, you can always go over it again later with a thicker pen and really tighten it up. I'll give her some calves, a foot, and I'll have her have some high-heeled shoes on. She's pivoting her foot out. I'll lose this calf on this side and give her a calf on that side that tells me that her foot is being pivoted out. I'll give her a crotch. All right, so I've done the basic structure, so now I go in with my eraser and I get rid of all of the pencil. That arm is not pretty, but whatever, I can fix that later. So after a few little corrections, she'll be good to go, you can scan her into your computer. And that's how you draw a figure.

How to Shade Depth | Fashion Sketching

01:53
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501960-How-to-Shade-Depth-Fashion-Sketching Learn about shading depth on fashion sketches from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Once you've gotten your base color on there, it's really important to go in and shade and color your fashion illustration. So what I then do is I take a color pencil, just really work the color into the corner and design lines of the garment. You want to think also about where the light is hitting this garment, so you always want to darken around the edges. You want to kind of carry it up the seam lines a bit to create some saturation. It's another great way if your dress happens to be drapey to show drape, texture, what have you. So I'm going to go in here, really shade in on her waist. You're basically just really driving it home, making it sure that your point is getting across to your viewer. All right, and then I take my handy smudge stick and I just blend, and I could do this for days, you know, one of those things. And that is pretty much how you shade in color, your fashion illustration.
