CEO THINKPAD - THE DYNAMICS OF EVER CHANGING FASHION

01:17:33
Few industries require their leaders to stay as nimble and on their toes as the fashion retail business. The dynamics of the fashion industry undergo a sea change dramatically and need leaders to think from an entirely new perspective every couple of years. The very nature of the fast-moving trend of fashion, requires retailers and brands to jump on trends right away, coupled with the additional dynamics that are adding to the challenges. Fashion and lifestyle consumers not only want to see a level of freshness in their products, but also in the entire shopping experience. Shoppers increasingly want brands to speak to them with the same level of relevance, whether they are on an online website, or an app, or browsing in a store.

Fashion - Trends -- Changing Consumer Behaviour

05:01
In most Western markets multichannel shopping has become a reality. Consumers browse online, compare in stores, buy on eBay and expect to be serviced like any other customer. Last Christmas, for the first time in history, US online shopping even passed the 1 billion dollar mark for a single day of sales. So, while the majority of fashion sales still happens through brick and mortar stores, ever more online retailers are challenging the traditional way men and women purchase their clothes. Watch this movie to see some interesting examples.

PHINE RAUN - Slow Fashion is the New Fashion

03:57
SLOW BLOG: www.phineraunsslowworld.com Insta: @phineraunofficial @phineraun @phineraunsslowworld #phineraun #josephineraun #slowfashionisthenewfashion www.phineraunfashiondesign.com www.josephineraun.com Slow fashion is the opposite of fast fashion, but what does that mean? Fast fashion is a very fast cycle that keeps on repeating and pertains to sell clothes as fast as possible; when natural resources are harvested fast, textiles are produced fast, garments are created fast and clothes are shipped to retailers and bought fast. Ethical, social and environmental issues also lay a deep impact behind these crucial facts. Fashion consumers are adjusted to keep on buying low priced clothing and a ever-changing selection when shopping for clothing. We are currently living on a four seasonal trend! This needs to stop. In ten years time, we won’t be able to keep on living like this. We will have no more natural resources left. Slow fashion seeks to make a major shift from quantity to quality! The term slow fashion was introduced in 2008 by a sustainable design consultant Kate Fletcher, who states, “ Fast fashion is about greed. It’s time to slow down and consider the true cost of choosing quantity over quality”. Slow fashion movement avoids mass-produced clothing. These slow fashion movement can be zero-waste, post-consumer waste, industrial-waste, handmade, locally produced or even re-purchasing vintage or second hand clothing. This new fashion movement is non-seasonal, non-trendy and long-lasting quality designs. Respecting the craftsmanship design, the ethical and environmental impacts behind the design production. Displaying a clear transparency message within the value chain. We need to stop this fast fashion mind-set and change it to a new slow fashion positive shift. Let’s make the fashion industry non-seasonal and I encourage all ladies to find their inner-individual styling. Don’t let fashion magazines or bloggers tell you what to wear or buy. Build your own styled wardrobe with quality clothing that will last forever and only buy something you know you will love again and again and again. Together, we can all make a change in the fashion industry. I, myself as a fashion designer is making the first small step, re-creating and re-using textiles and clothing items into a new value, but you, as the fashion consumer, need to make a change as well. Find your inner Twiggy, Audrey Hepburn, Edie Seadwick or Marylin Manroe style, whoever you are– find your inner lady styling and dress with confidence and success. Slow fashion is the fashion future. The changing face of fashion | The Economist

01:55
The numbers behind haute couture are staggering, with up to 35% of consumers buying their clothes based on trends recommended by social media. Here's how the industry is cutting its cloth today. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.trib.al/rWl91R7 The fashion industry has annual revenues of more than three trillion dollars and accounts for 2% of total global manufacturing. China is a global leader, exporting over 36% of the world's garments. Its clothing industry has an export value of 175 billion dollars annually but competition is increasing, particularly from some of its neighbours in Asia. Bangladesh is the second largest global exporter of clothing after China - closely followed by Vietnam. But it's not just the production of fashion that is changing; social media has begun to influence consumer decisions when buying clothing. Up to 35% of consumers buy their clothes based on trends recommended by social networks. Fashion brands now live stream their once exclusive fashion shows to the public, whilst high street brands copy haute couture style and get them to market before the designers do. Business is booming for these big fast fashion brands. Zara saw their share of the fashion retail market more than double in the decade from 2004 - but fast fashion creates its own problems as consumers clear out their wardrobes more regularly. Americans threw away 11.1 million tonnes of clothes and shoes in 2013. That amounts to over 4% of the country's rubbish - more than double the level in 1990. The ever-changing 'ideal' of female beauty

43:44
Story highlightsIdeas about female beauty are constantly changing and have been for 23,000 yearsYet the impact on body image remains the same, experts say (CNN)Hidden in the halls of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York are historic textiles and glamorous garments, many of which hold secrets from years past.Yet no matter how aesthetically unique or historically significant a particular piece of fashion may be, most visitors to the museum typically ask one question, said Emma McClendon, the museum's associate curator of costume."People come and always want to know what size something is," said McClendon, who organized the exhibition "The Body: Fashion and Physique," about the history of the idealized body type in fashion, which is on display until May. "Whether it's contemporary or 19th century, they want to know what size it is or what size it would correlate to, or what measurement it is," she said. "We as a culture, as a society, are obsessed with size. It's become connected to our identity as people."This obsession fuels societal pressures to appear a certain way and to have a certain body type, particularly among young women, stemming from a cultural construct of the "ideal" body, which has in turn changed over time -- as long ago as pre-history.Read MoreThousands of years ago, sculptures and artworks portrayed curvaceous, thickset silhouettes. More recently, in the late 20th century, thin, waif-like models filled the pages of fashion magazines. Now, shapely backsides are celebrated with "likes" on social media. To mark International Women's Day, we explore how this "ideal" is ever-changing, forming a complex history throughout art and fashion -- with damaging impacts on women who try to conform in each era. The Everchanging Motor Car - 1965

10:35
The Ever-Changing Motor Car This delightful cartoon was made for Ford of Britain in 1965. It looks humorously into the psychological aspects of fashion and design, and at how car designs have developed. Initially cars were built for function, but later, design was allowed to make its own demands. Family cars became bigger, whilst sports and racing cars became lighter and smaller. In addition, the film looks at what different factors impact on the choice of car; work, pleasure, family, personality, taste and dignity! Having considered all of the things influencing the choice of a potential car buyer, the little man (the star of the cartoon) is asked what kind of car he would choose having the benefit of 'insider knowledge'. His answer, while immediately funny, dramatically illustrates the intense frustration of the designers and marketing teams of all new cars with its utter banality.

What will people wear in the future? | The Economist

06:25
Innovation in fashion is sparking radical change. In the future clothes could be computers, made with materials designed and grown in a lab. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy A new wave of innovation is fueling a radical change in fashion. Wearable technology, data, automation and lab-grown materials will have a major impact on what people will be wearing in the future. Since the birth of sewing and weaving, technology has always led developments in fashion. The Industrial Revolution mechanized manufacturing enabling mass production. In the 1960s synthetic materials like polyester took off, creating new possibilities for fashion. Now the convergence of new technologies is opening up previously unimaginable possibilities. Self-styled fashion scientist Dr Amanda Parkes is in the vanguard of the industry's latest reinvention. She heads up innovation at FT labs, a venture capital firm that invests primarily in disruptive fashion tech startups. Among these startups the race is on to find the next generation of renewable materials that can be grown in a lab. Traditional silk is produced from insect larvae that form cocoons, most commonly silkworms. But rather than relying on these insects bolt threads is creating silk in test tubes. Bio fabricated materials remove the need for animals and insects and they are a more sustainable and efficient way of producing raw materials. Other companies are creating leather alternatives. Rather than using animals scientists are creating bio fabricated materials from pineapple leaves and even mushrooms. The convergence of fashion and technology also provides opportunities to transform not just clothes but the people wearing them. Myant is a company that's pioneering the creation of clothing that can monitor your every move. So called smart fabrics are being touted as the next frontier of wearable technology. Yarns are paired with electronic sensors so that essential data can be captured from the human body. To create clothing that can monitor the wearer's health and fitness, Myant has brought together teams of people that have not traditionally worked under the same roof. Smart fabrics could radically change consumers relationships with the clothes they wear but as technology increases the pace of change, how can the industry keep track of what consumers really want? Francesca Muston is the head of retail at WGSN, the world's leading fashion forecasting agency. The staff here use big data to analyze political, social, and environmental trends in order to predict the hot new looks of tomorrow. Technology is driving an explosion in consumer choice as well as the bewildering array of clothing design and creation. To keep up the industry is also turning to technology. Machine learning technologies are now central to fashion forecasting, quickly spotting patterns among the ever-growing volume of data. From biotechnology to demographic shifts predicting trends is no longer an art it's becoming a science. My Response To... Stacey Dooley Investigates, Fashions Dirty Secrets

14:05
If I was to do another one of these videos what would you like to see? DOCUMENTARY - https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0bn6034/stacey-dooley-investigates-fashions-dirty-secrets Like our environment the fashion industry is ever changing, we don’t just stick to the four seasons anymore and consumers are always buying clothing. After watching the Stacey Dooley documentary I thought it was important to be able to talk about an issue like this and make people aware. This video is not a shaming video and hasn’t been made to offend or upset anyone or to stop you from going shopping or at least make you feel bad about it. The purpose of the video is to bring awareness to a topic that you may not be aware of and to show you as a consumer what you can do to not only bring awareness but to help the issue. If you did enjoy this video please like and subscribe to my channel and share it on social media so we can

In her nine years in the industry, the 27-year-old has rocked everything from a butt-grazing weave to a short pink pixie . She’s dressed up like a cupcake and bared it all in many a see-through ensemble. She’s garnered titles as a fashion idol while also instigating some harsh scrutiny. http://www.celebuzz.com/2015-03-13/rihanna-style-fashion-evolution/ http://www.wochit.com
