How to Add Patterns to Clothing in Photoshop
I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou Scale Pattern into Place Start by scaling and rotating the pattern into place. In this example, we also invert the pattern to change colors by pressing CTRL/CMD + I. Make sure to make the pattern a bit larger than the piece of clothing so it can be warped into place. Use the Pen Tool to Cut Out Clothing It is important to have an accurate cut out of the clothing, so the pattern looks seamless. In this example, we use the Pen Tool to cut out the original shirt. Create a pen path around the clothing by clicking and dragging to create curves. After completing the pen path, right-click and turn it into a selection and feather the edge by 0.5 pixels. Next, load the selection as a layer mask for the pattern, making it only visible where the original piece of clothing is. Liquify the Pattern to Fit the Clothing To make the pattern look like it flows with the fabric, it must be warped into place. Use the liquify tool to bring in the edges of the pattern, making it look like the pattern wraps around the piece of clothing. To re-create folds of fabric, use the freeze mask tool to paint over one-half of the fold. Then use the forward warp tool to push the pattern under the freeze mask. If done correctly, it will look like the original pattern curves around the folds of fabric. Add Highlights and Shadows from Original Photo The last step is to blend the pattern into the original image. In this example, we change the blend mode to ‘Multiply’ and lower the opacity to 90%. Next, add shadows and highlights from the original piece of clothing. Duplicate the background layer and place it on top of the fabric layer. Right-click on the layer and select “create clipping mask”, then change the blend mode to ‘Multiply’. To add highlights, duplicate the background layer and clip it to the fabric, just like the previous layer. This time set the blend mode to ‘Screen’. If needed, adjust the brightness of this layer by using a Levels adjustment - CTRL/CMD + L. Drag the black point slider to the right until the layer only appears over the highlights. How to Draw a Pattern | Fashion Sketching
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501953-How-to-Draw-a-Pattern-Fashion-Sketching Learn how to draw a pattern for a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Something that you'll often have to do in fashion design is create pattern or texture on the fabric of the garment that you're designing. I'm going to go with polka dots in this dress. So it can go a lot of ways, you can be very graphic about it, or you can be very literal about it. I'm going to go with the graphic approach. I just start out with darker version, I'm going to do darker blue polka dots on a lighter blue dress. You want to just keep in mind like what your spacing is. Most of the time you'll have a swatch of your fabric right beside your sketch, so people will get it, but it's just all about just creating your texture, or your print, or what have you. A lot of times you don't even have to cover your whole dress, you just do a section of it, that's why it's really important to have your swatch of fabric beside your dress. I don't have a swatch of this fabric, but whatever, I guess I'll do the whole dress then. I'm trying to like keep in mind the folds, going with a graphic quality. As you get to the edges of the dress, you go darker with your polka dots, because that is creating more shadow. And if you really want to, you can go in afterwards with your pen and outline every single one of these polka dots, but I really don't think it's necessary, I think they look fine as they are. And that's how you draw a pattern or print on a fashion illustration.

Designing 3D Printed Dresses | FASHION AS DESIGN
Textiles are among the most ancient human design pieces. In this short film, New York-based fashion collective threeASFOUR, together with collaborators Travis Fitch and Stratsys, reimagine fabric manipulation and textile design using 3D printing to create dresses that transform based on the ergonomics and movement of the human body. FASHION AS DESIGN is a new course by MoMA that explores a selection of garments from around the world—ranging from Kente cloth to jeans to 3D-printed dresses. Each week will begin with a conversation between the course instructors—Paola Antonelli, Michelle Fisher, and Stephanie Kramer—that introduces the themes, items, and questions that we will explore. DIY: How to make a butterfly sleeve of organza. Pattern for a butterfly sleeve. Sewing tutorial.
Today we continue talking about sleeves. I’ve already showed you several types of sleeves, and I want to show you some more. Today I’ll show you how to make butterfly sleeve of a circle of fabric. Such sleeves used to be very popular! I think that they are very nice. I’ve come across such design in a book recently, and realized I have to show it to you! I show you so many types of sleeves because I want to help you be different! This dummy’s arm-hole circumference is 38cm. The circle I’ll draw in the big circle should be even to the arm-hole. Notice that I’m not drawing the circle in the center. Measure 6,2cm with a compass, put a mark there and start drawing a circle with a center in this points. It’s not easy to work with organza. You know that I like interesting and unusual designs. You may think that these are just the 2 circles, but actually it’s a sleeve. I’ll pin the sleeve to show you how it looks like. Do not be afraid of such sleeves. You can line them, stitch them with overlock, edge them – process them like you usually process any other sleeve. Such sleeve will look absolutely different if it’s made of some other fabric. The technique is the same. You can make such sleeves of organza or some other fabric. You can also make such sleeves of several layers of fabric, they will look amazing. Remember that practice makes perfect. Try edging such sleeves differently – use different seams and different techniques. My name is Paukshte Irina. Subscribe to my channel!

A Beginners Guide to the Fabric Store! For MHS Fashion Design Students
Going to a fabric store for the first time can be a quite daunting task, so I hope this will take some of the confusion out of it! This video is for the benefit of our students in our Fashion Design and Construction class at Mason High School. In southwestern Ohio, we may not have an amazing store like MOOD fabrics in New York City, but close to our high school we have a couple of convenient options for the kids to utilize. I show JoAnne Fabrics and the Walmart fabric department in the video. In this video, students will find an explanation of things they will find in the notions aisle, as well as how to select and find a pattern using the books and drawers, where to find upholstery fabrics, decorator and quilting fabrics, apparel fabrics, etc. It is shown on the end of the fabric bolts where to find the price, fabric composition, and washing instructions... a necessary bit of information before you cut and purchase any fabric. Always read your pattern for suggested types of fabrics for the selected item. Some fabrics aren't appropriate for many applications... so check the pattern, the material composition, and washing instructions!

In my quest toward a handmade wardrobe, I've been making my own underwear as a bit of a sewing DIY project instead of purchasing new lingerie. There are so many great sewing patterns (many of them free!) and you can easily use knit fabric leftover from other projects. I used this free pattern, although find them to be somewhat "granny panties" in style - but by NOT adding the suggested seam allowance - they fit me better. https://www.makebra.com/free-hipster-pattern/ Also added this adorable, colorful picot plush elastic from Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/shop/MarySupplies FABRIC USED: Art Gallery Boardwalk Delight Jersey Knit Flavor of the Day http://amzn.to/2xZkWxi Art Gallery Boardwalk Delight Jersey Knit Ice Cream Shop http://amzn.to/2ePCUd9 SUBSCRIBE FOR WEEKLY VIDEOS! https://goo.gl/WxA2s4 If you enjoyed this video, the best way to support making more like this is to subscribe. Creating Patterns On Clothing in Photoshop
I Guarantee I Can Teach You to Master Photoshop. Learn How: https://phlearn.com/aaronwillteachyou You can turn anything into a pattern in Photoshop using the Define Pattern command. It will take what ever is visible on a canvas and turn it into a repeatable pattern stored on the computer. It is a good idea to use a "seamless" or "repeatable" pattern here, making sure that when tiled the patterns will not break. In this episode we download a pattern and use it as a starting place. You can create your own patterns in Photoshop but to save time we use a pre-made pattern from Christina Jewels. Download her pattern here. http://www.christinajewels.com/1/post/2012/11/free-seamless-vector-houndstooth-pattern.html Creating and tiling a pattern is the first step to getting a pattern on someone's clothing. Next you have to make the pattern look as though it actually follows the clothing lines. To do this we use the warp command and layer blending modes. Soft Light blending mode will always do a good job blending in one layer into another. We set our blending mode to Soft Light and lower the opacity to see through to the original image. After getting the pattern to blend in better we warp it to follow the general shape of the garment. The next step is taking care of each fold of the fabric. In order to make the pattern look as though it really is applied on the skirt we have to take into account each fold and turn of the fabric. This can be a tricky process depending on what piece of clothing you are using but the principles are the same. We use the Pen Tool to make selections of each fabric fold and then use the warp tool to contour the pattern to match the fabric. To make this process a bit easier we use the Hide (Cmd + H) Command to remove guides as we make the transformation. Repeat this process for each fold and bend of the fabric and before you know it you will be done. If you thought this episode was great our "Pro Tutorials" are about 10 times better, more in-depth detailed information, and are priced perfectly for the photographers and photoshoppers wanting to become the best. Of course we teach it the right way, you just have to get access to the lesson check out http://phlearn.com/pro-tutorials. How to Draw Lace | Fashion Sketching
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501943-How-to-Draw-Lace-Fashion-Sketching Learn about drawing lace in a fashion sketch from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. This is how you draw a lace. You start out with the lace that you're planning on rendering, which is a great idea. First figure out what kind of lace you want to use. This is especially handy if you have a client sitting beside you, and that's pretty much the story of my life, because I'm a custom designer, and they're sitting there right beside me, so I can't sit there and render perfect little flowers the whole time. So you have your swatch of fabric pinned to the page beside you, and then you just kind of indicate, just like little flowers throughout the dress, you know, some swirls between them, kind of just like your, let your hand just kind of just flow, don't be too rigid with it, because laces, lacey is all about like flowers and flow and whatnot. So you could even really just take the easiest route possible and just do a bunch of squiggles, which I'm going to do at the whole bottom of this dress, because I've already indicated at the top that that is going to be these hibiscus, or whatever the heck they are, squiggle squiggle, add some shading here and there, squiggle squiggle, one flower there, one flower here, one flower there, one in the middle to really drive it home that this is lace. And that is how you render lace on the spot.
