Eat more food The leading trick to gain weight is to consume more calories than your body can burn. The mistake that most people do is to go by their feelings. Your metabolism could be much faster than you think. You need to know how much calories your body needs for you to gain weight. Keep track of everything you eat to know how much calories you consume every day. You might overestimate your calorie intake if you go with your feelings. Why do we get fat - Why do we gain weight as we get older?
In this video I discuss why do we get fat, and why do we gain weight as we get older. Our metabolism slows, we become less active and lead a sedentary lifestyle, and our relationship with food changes. Transcript (partial) Generally, At 6 months an infant’s birth weight has doubled, and tripled by their 1st birthday. As an infant gets older, growth continues. In fact, Growth in height usually stops at age about age 16 for females and around 22 for males. Bones, organs and other body tissues are getting larger, and lean body muscle is developed. All of this growth requires energy, and where does the body get energy from? Food, of course. So, when we are young, with all of the growth taking place, most, if not all of the food we eat, is being used as energy to fuel this growth. And that means that not much, if any, fat storage is taking place. Once this growth period stops, we are at our physical peak, and the body enters a simple maintenance stage. So, now that high energy requirement, starts to decline, and continues to decline as we get older, that is, unless WE OURSELVES, do something about it. Next lets shift gears and look at the typical activity level of a person over the course of their life. As an infant and small child we start to crawl and eventually walk. Kids are typically investigating all the new things they are exposed to, running around and playing all the time. They are very active. As kids get older they typically continue to be very active, going to the playground, playing around with their friends outside, getting into sports, and riding their bikes everywhere. They are still running around and being active all the time. Then, adolescence and teen years hit, and their activity level may increase a bit, because they are still hanging out with friends and usually doing physical activities or at least moving around a lot. Next up is college years and mid twenties. Here, the activity level may stay the same or decline slightly, but most 20-somethings are still relatively active and many have more labor or physical type jobs. Then the late twenties and 30’s hit, and here is usually where we see a significant change in activity level. Many people have settled into a desk job, where they are sitting most of the day. Going out with friends usually means going to a bar, restaurant or grilling out at someone’s house, with very little to no physical movement at all. Hopefully you see the pattern here. Now let’s look at the 3rd part of our puzzle, I am going to call it computer programming. The brain is absorbing and learning, I like to think of it as computer code is be written into it. It is being programmed with educational information, learning to dealing with people, understanding right and wrong, and it is also developing relationships. Relationships with family, friends, teachers, pets, and it is also being programmed to develop a relationship with food. As a child, we are often told, make sure you eat, you are growing and you need to eat to grow. But as a kid, we don’t care about food, except candy of course, we want to go play with our friends, and explore the world. But, on our journey into adulthood, we are taught a lot of things about food. We often get rewarded with fast food or ice cream after our sporting event or some type of accomplishment. We learn to love junk food and soda pop. As we continue to get older, we see that graduations and special occasions are celebrated with food. Now celebrations and birthdays are celebrated at someone’s favorite restaurant where everyone can sit and talk and not be active. Thanksgiving, Christmas, 4th of July, it is all about the food. This reward system of food and our exposure to bad foods, or only eating foods that taste good, regardless of their nutritional value gets written, or coded into our brains. Food isn’t taught from a nutritional standpoint, but rather from an enjoyment standpoint. We aren’t taught about vitamins and minerals and portion sizes. We aren’t taught that food is for energy and nutrients; we are taught that food is about comfort. When we reach full adulthood, we have been programmed with the perspective that food is for comfort and taste, not its nutritional value. Our main concerns on a daily basis are our family, our job, and what delicious food we are going to enjoy today. This is programmed into the brain now. So, now it is time to bring all three segments together. We have a continuous decline in metabolic activity after growth has peaked, we have a very similar pattern with a declining activity level, and we have our jaded personal relationship with food. Folks, those are the 3 main factors of why we gain weight as we get older. There is some great news though; all of these things can be changed. You can increase your metabolic rate, you can become more active, and you can change your relationship with food.

People want to know if burpees are the best exercise for getting the job done. Others want to know if battle ropes or even jump rope are better at burning calories and burning fat. While all of them are at the top of the list for the most calories burned on a minute per minute basis, they still are not the best way to lose five pounds of body fat the fastest. In this video, I show you how you can never outtrain a bad diet. If you refuse to pay attention to the quality of your nutrition and the foods you put in your mouth you are never going to have the low levels of body fat that you desire long term. Sure, anyone can follow a short term diet that allows them to lose fat for a few weeks however if you can’t keep it up then you will never be satisfied with your body fat levels over the course of the year. Mistakenly, people look to exercises as the best way to drop body fat. While you definitely need to train, achieving fat loss is and always will be better accomplished via the right nutrition plan. This goes back to the comment about never being able to outtrain a bad diet. You simply cannot make up enough calorie burn via exercise (even the most intense) to overcome bad food choices. For instance, our very own Jesse is a big sugar fanatic and a worshiper of gummy bears. Just 17 measly gummy bears has 150 calories. Even if Jesse were to do 10 minutes straight of high effort high intensity burpees, he would only burn 120 calories and he would lose that battle with a net calorie gain of 30. Now Jesse, being a hardgainer, is not concerned at the moment with his body fat levels. He was the only one wiling to do the burpees while I talked during the video being the good sport that he is. If you are looking to burn 5 lbs of fat however, you need to be sure that you are paying attention to what really matters. Your nutrition will always be at the top of the priority list for getting that job done. Now, does that mean that conditioning exercises like burpees, jump rope, battle ropes and split squat jumps don’t have a place in your workout program if you need to lose fat? Not at all. Let's face it, when you're eating and watching TV or on your laptop or something else distracting, you're not pay attention to what you're eating. You're focused on the show, so you just keep eating, snacking and drinking. You're not "mindful"... So watch TV without any snacks or foods, unless it's vegetables with NO dressing. 2 - Eating Too Quickly Most of us are in a rush and we're not chewing your foods properly. This causes stomach problems, gas, bloat, acid reflux and weight gain. And one of the reasons you gain weight is because 20 minutes of eating, typically signals your brain that you're full. When you eat slowly, you'll eat LESS food during that time…. Because your brain shuts off your appetite. 3 - Drinking Your Calories Drinking your calories is a big problem because it only takes a couple of minutes to have juice, soda, a "shake" or any other liquid that's loaded with lots of calories. Eating real food causes a "thermogenic" effects, thus increasing your body temperature and metabolism. Also, "drinks" are typically loaded with lots of sugars, which spike up your insulin levels and increase belly fat. 4 - Not Moving Enough Your body is made to move. Yet, most people just sit all day -- you're sitting at work, in your car, behind the computer, while eating and so forth. You need to exercise or "move" daily. Simply taking a brisk, 20-30 minute walk daily will increase your metabolism because it improves your hormones and reduces cravings. 5 - Not Eating Often Enough Most people skip breakfast, which isn't a good idea. But the bigger problem is that most people skip lots of meals and then when they do sit down to finally eat, they are so hungry that they'll eat anything and make poor eating decisions. By eating more often, you'll have more energy, better blood sugar levels and less cravings and hunger. Also, the more often you eat, the faster your metabolism because your body has to "turn on" to digest all the food. Thus, eat smaller meals, more often. This can be 3 regular meals like breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus 2 smaller "snack" meals. You can eat the same calories, but spread it over 5 smaller meals and you'll lose fat and feel better too. 6 - Not Drinking Enough Water Most people don't drink enough water and thus, are walking around dehydrated. To make it worse, most people are loaded on caffeine products -- coffee, "energy drinks", tea and so forth. When you're dehydrated, your more tired and fatigued. This causes you to move less and burn less calories. Drinking water, especially cold water, causes a thermogenic effect, similar to eating more meals. Drinking water, especially before a meal, also reduces hunger pains and cravings. If the way you are eating now has you looking forward to the chances you get to depart from that diet then you are setting yourself up for failure. In this video, I’m going to show you how the mentality of a “cheat meal” is what may be single handedly responsible for keeping you from losing weight and keeping it off forever. To start, the mentality of cheat meals means that you are splurging or indulging. You are enjoying something that you aren’t capable of experiencing or having during your non-cheating periods. When the regular, every day foods and diet you follow cause you to have a clear dichotomy between foods you actually enjoy and those you only eat because you feel like you are supposed to be eating them, then you are setting yourself up for failure. If on the other hand, you were able to identify foods that you actually enjoyed that were still nutritious and in line with your goals of losing weight, body fat and building muscle then you would be on the way to nutritional freedom and permanent weight loss. Too many people think that the only way to lose weight and have abs is to eat steamed broccoli, dry asparagus and iceberg lettuce. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The best way to lose weight is to start looking at food as fuel for your muscles and your performance and stop hating the limited food choices you have left yourself. The avoidance of carbs, fats and even some proteins in the pursuit of six pack abs is a mistake. Rice, pasta, potatoes, butter and oils can all be (and should be) part of a nutrition plan that is capable of helping you lose weight and put on lean muscle mass. If you fall victim to the carb phobia that is far too rampant these days then you are likely to be robbing your muscles of the exact nutrients they need to perform at their best. Beyond that, it is these very foods that tend to help us maintain our sanity when changing our eating lifestyle. If you completely eliminate starchy carbohydrates from your diet then you are going to quickly fall off of your eating plan. Carbs and fats are preferred energy sources for our bodies and avoiding them for any length of time in the pursuit of fast fat loss is a recipe for failure. When you incorporate these back into your eating plan, you will suddenly find that the choice to have something like carrot cake, beer or even cupcakes is something that you are making because you wanted them not because your body felt as if it needed them! There is a huge difference between the two. Once you string together a period of time that you are doing this your results become self motivating and you will find that you make less choices for “cheat meals” and more decisions are made to continue eating your nutritious food choices since you prefer them and actually enjoy them. This is the best way to lose weight long term because you aren’t basing your attempt on deprivation or diets. This way works regardless of the way you are eating now. Even if you are using intermittent fasting as your method of eating at the moment, the principles are still the same and will help you to lose weight forever. Since there's no way to Target the fat burn just from our belly area we have to burn fat from our whole body to tap into the fat stores around our midsection. And although exercise can increase the amount of calories that we burn and help us burn a little more fat the main driver of fat loss is going to be diet. So I want to give you guys the best 3 diet approaches too easily burn fat fast. As you burn fat from your whole body you'll definitely notice a difference around your waist and like I said these diet approaches are very effective for seeing results within a few days. 2 effectively burn fat we can't just concentrate on calories in and calories out. Insulin is a fat storage hormone and it is directly linked too fat loss. If you want to burn fat the fastest way to do it is by controlling and lowering your insulin levels. Insulin is released to control your blood sugar by shuttling glucose into your muscles and your liver to be used for energy. When your insulin levels are hi your body cannot burn fat. In fact It has no need to burn fat because your body can get plenty of energy from the glucose thats in your bloodstream that triggered the insulin to be released to begin with. The worst part is that not only does insulin block fat loss but it also causes the body to store excess glucose as fat. However all hope is not lost you have another hormone known as glucagon that pretty much has the inverse function. After depleting stored glucose from your muscles and from your liver your blood sugar will begin to drop. When your blood sugar drops too low glucagon can actually raise your blood sugar by converting glycerol in your fat cells into glucose for fuel. Glucagon also signals the fat cells to release free fatty acids in a process known as lipolysis. To put it simply glucagon signals the body to release stored fat to be used as fuel. There are many studies that compare the effects of these two hormones insulin & glucagon. But my favorite is one of the simplest where a group of researchers studied the effects of these two hormones on rats. The study was published in the Journal of Comparative & Physiological Psychology In this study half of the rats where injected with insulin & the other half were injected with glucagon. The rats that received the insulin gained body fat & ate more. The rats that received the glucagon lost body fat. Now nobody's going to be injecting you with glucagon but there are ways that you could naturally lower your insulin levels & increase your glucagon levels through diet. And these 3 diets that I'm about to go over do exactly that in the most effective way. As long as blood sugar is available your body will preferentially burn that for fuel over fat. So what is the best way to lower blood sugar in the shortest amount of time? The answer is our first dye method that we're going to go over & that's fasting. There is no better way to lower insulin levels & lower blood sugar levels then not eating at all. Now I'm not advocating for you to starve because that usually leads to a binge which leads to a very high spike in blood sugar & insulin storing any kind of fat that you might have lost right back if not more. But I do highly recommend that you try a couple simple fasting approaches such as intermittent fasting which involves a 16 hour fast followed by an 8 Hour feeding window. A little bit of a more advanced version of fasting would be a 20-hour fast followed by a four hour feeding period this is typically referred to as The Warrior Diet. And even more advanced than that would be the one meal a day diet where you would fast for the entire day & only eat one meal. After that comes your longer-duration fasts where you don't eat anyting for 2 to 7 days. Although I don't recommend these for beginners fasting for longer durations is scientifically proven to be the most effective way to lower blood sugar & insulin levels while simultaneously increasing glucagon levels. Meaning there is no other diet approach out there that will lower your insulin & burn fat quite as much as fasting. And this makes perfect sense because even protein can be converted into glucose & can spike your insulin. But if you eat nothing at all the only thing that your body has to work off of for energy after depleting your liver& your muscles of glycogen is stored energy in the form of fat. Again don't worry if you're not willing to not eat for 7 days

Dumbbell Weighted Burpees So you have some excess belly fat, that's cool...I can help, but I'm not gonna tell you the same bs that you've probably seen and heard a millions times. I'm not gonna tell you to lie down on the ground and start doing crunches. In fact there's not gonna be a single crunch in this whole video because crunches and abdominal exercises are not what will help you lose belly fat. Let me repeat that crunches and ab exercises will never ever ever be the best exercises for you to lose belly fat. The exercises that I show you today are going to be far better and much more effective at burning fat at a faster rate. Before we get started there's a huge myth that I want to bust especially for the beginners watching this video. It's a myth that you can target a particular area of your body for fat burning. What I mean is that there's no exercise out there that will target specifically belly fat. No such exercise in the world. There are exercises that are better at burning overall body fat, and I'll go over those exercises with you today, but your body is going to pull from fat stores from all different areas. Also unfortunately medial areas of the body like the belly, butt, upper thighs, and love handles are last spots to go. You're likely to lose fat off your face before you start losing it from your belly. Don't worry though as you burn away more and more excess body fat, you eventually start burning fat from those problem areas, and that's when you'll lose the belly fat. The point is to lose belly fat you have to concentrate on losing overall body fat..that's all you can do, and these exercises are the best body fat burning exercises that I know of. So let's get started. As always I will be going over regressions at the end, so if you're a beginner and you can't do some of the exercises don't worry there will be alternatives later. For the first exercise all we need is a platform to step up on. You're going to face the platform sideways at a ninety degree angle, and step up with the foot closest to the platform. As you come up you want to explode off of that foot and hop up & over as you switch your feet. Repeat this 4 times and then immediately hit the ground and perform 4 mountain climbers. Make sure you jump your feet far enough in on the mountain climbers, remember we want to be climbing mountains not anthills. Repeat this cycle of 4 and 4 for 10 reps. You can make this exercise far more effective by adding some dumbbells to the movement. This should definitely get that heart racing. On the next one we're gonna do a mayweather stand up. They're actually called Maywhether situps but I said no crunches, so I'm sticking to it. This exercise has fat burning benefits not because there's a situp involved, but because it's working a lot of large muscles and getting your heart rate high. You're going to get your feet under something that will hold them down and hold a weight directly above your head. Swing the weight toward your feet as you situp, bring the weight out in front of you, and stand up. Squat and sit back down to the floor to repeat the movement for at least 10 reps. Moving on to the next one we have a real leg blasting exercise. You're going to start by lunging backwards and kneeling down on one knee. Bring your other knee back so that you're kneeling on both knees. The same foot that you used to Lunge backwards steps up into a forward lunge. Stand up and bring both feet together shoulder-width apart squat down and jump up as high as you can. As soon as you land backwards lunge now with the other leg and perform the exercise on the other side. If it gets confusing and feels like too many steps you can just stick to doing one side at a time until you get the hang of it. Next we have one that looks really complicated but once you get it its a piece of cake. Try to take it Step by step and remember if you cant do it there will be regressions at the end. Start standing and perform a sprawl. Put your hands on the ground and jump out with your feet wide and elbows locked out while simultaneously dropping your hips, now raise your hips into a downward dog position...pick one hand and your opposite foot off the ground...take your foot and kick it through as you rotate your body. Bring your elbow in to your ribs, and tap your butt on the ground,
