What I Learned From Watching: The French Connection (1971)
What does William Friedkin's classic detective film The French Connection teach us about filmmaking? Smack dab in the middle of the Hollywood Renaissance, William Friedkin’s 1971 police thriller titled The French Connection captures the gritty reality of a true crime story like few films can. Over the years, detective films have certainly not been in short supply. Today, we take an in-depth look at what The French Connection teaches us about filmmaking to see if we can figure out why it always seems to tower above the rest. English Travel Vocabulary: Planning a Trip
http://www.engvid.com Are you going to travel? Make sure you're prepared with the vocabulary you will need for your business trip or vacation. In this lesson, I'll teach you the English vocabulary you must know for travel -- from preparing your travel itinerary and making reservations, to getting your visas and boarding your flight. It is essential that you know this basic English travel vocabulary, because English is an international language. ESL students who are studying abroad will find these words very helpful. Even if you are not travelling to an English-speaking country, as a tourist, you will need to communicate with people at the airport, and at tourist attractions. Watch this lesson, take the quiz, and have a safe trip! http://www.engvid.com/english-travel-vocabulary-planning-a-trip/ TRANSCRIPT Hi. Welcome again to www.engvid.com. My name is Adam. Today, I'm talking about a very interesting topic because, for example, in Toronto right now, it's very, very cold. I'm thinking about travelling; I would love to go somewhere hot to get away from this winter. So, when I travel, I have, of course, to make travel arrangements. So here, we have a list of words, a list of things that you must think about before you go on a trip to a different country. We're going to go over each of these. We're going to start with "booking" and "reservation". Now, many people think that this is more or less the same, which it is. To book something or to reserve something means to keep a place, to keep your place. You book a flight, you book a hotel room. Generally speaking, you make a reservation at a restaurant; you make a booking with a travel agency or with a hotel, with accommodations, any type of accommodation. Speaking of, accommodations are hotel, motel, hostel, B&B, bed and breakfast; all kinds of accommodations. Make sure you have a booking before you go, so your place is safe, it's kept for you. When you arrive, it's all good. Next, when you're at your destination, the place you're going to, you might want to "rent" a car. Okay? Sorry, this is accommodation. One thing I wanted to also make sure - "accommodations", without the "s", "accommodation" means something different. Okay? "Accommodations" is where you're going to sleep. And you might want to "rent" a car. You can also "hire" a car. Means the same thing. British people generally use "hire" more, North Americans use "rent" more often. Next, you have to think about your "baggage". Suitcase, luggage, bags, anything you're carrying with you. You might have "check-in baggage". Sorry, I don't know if you can see this guy. "Check-in baggage" and "carry-on baggage". "Check-in baggage" means you give it to the airline, they put it under the plane, you pick it up at your destination. "Carry-on" means you carry on, so you carry it on your shoulder on to the plane. Okay? In your carry-on, you have to be careful, it has to be small. You can't have liquids because of security and all that stuff. So things that you can't put in your carry-on, you must put in your check-in baggage and give to the airline. Next, when you get to the airport, assuming you're flying, you will have to do a few things that concern the word "boarding". Before you board your plane, get on your plane - you will get a boarding pass that lets you pass through security and into the airport. On the boarding pass, you will see your "boarding time", this is when you get on the plane and your "boarding gate", the place in the airport where you're going to get on your plane before takeoff. Okay? We can also use this for a train. You board a train, you get a boarding pass with a boarding time, and generally a boarding platform. Okay? So "boarding", getting on your vehicle, whatever vehicle that might be. You will also generally need to get a "visa" to many countries. Now, a "visa" is something that you use to get into a country, it gives you permission to stay in that country. But be aware: many places, if you're going through another country... So, for example: I'm going to country "C" via country "B". "Via" means by way of or through. So I might need a "transit visa", means I can go there, switch planes and keep going on my journey. But I'm still in another country, I need a transit visa. Excuse me. Also, make sure you're prepared to spend money as soon as you get to your destination. If you're going to a different country, that country will but using a different "currency", type of money. In Canada, we have Canadian dollar. America has American dollar. Okay? For things like that. In Europe, you need the euro. So make sure you have some of the currency before you go, or purchase it at the airport or at the destination you're going to.

12 English Expressions with ALL: "for all I know", "all along", "all talk"...
Do you want to learn some useful English expressions? In this video, I will teach you common expressions with the word "all" in them. What does it mean when someone is a "know-it-all" or "not all there"? What is the difference between "all along" and "all over"? I will also teach about the following expressions: all in all, all-nighter, all the way, for all I know, for all I care, all for it, all talk, and once and for all. After watching the video, take my quiz at https://www.engvid.com/english-idioms-all/ to practice what you've learned. #engvid #LearnEnglish #expressions TRANSCRIPT Hello. My name is Emma, and in today's video, I am going to teach you some new expressions. These expressions all have the word "all" in them. Okay? So you're going to learn a lot of new words today, or a lot of new expressions. So, let's get started. The first expression I want to teach you is one of my favourites: "an all-nighter". So, an all-nighter is when you stay awake for over 24 hours. So, you do not sleep. So, who pulls an all-nighter? Usually students before an exam or a test might pull an all-nighter; or maybe somebody has a big project and they don't have time to sleep because they want to finish the project, so they might pull an all-nighter. You'll notice that the verb we often use with "all-nighter" is "pull". An all-nighter is a noun, so we have "an". "I pulled an all-nighter." This means: I did not sleep for more than 24 hours. When I was a student, I only pulled an all-nighter once. Okay? Which is good. That's pretty good. Have you ever pulled an all-nighter? I hope you're not the type of person that pulls all-nighters all the time, because I have a friend who does that all the time, and - ugh, seems so terrible. So that's the word "all-nighter". What's another expression with the word "all"? I like this one a lot, too: "all talk". So, "all talk" is an adjective, and it means when we talk about doing something, but we never do it. Okay? So, I have some friends who are all talk. That means that they always talk about doing something, but they never have done it or they never will. So, for example, I have one friend named Chris, and Chris has a boss who he just hates. His boss is a terrible boss, and he's been working at the same company for three years, and his boss and him get into arguments all the time. Now, what Chris says every time I see Chris is Chris says: "You know, I almost punched my boss today. I was so angry with my boss, I almost punched him today", which is not a good thing to do to anybody, but, you know, also not a good thing to do to your boss. So, what I say to Chris is: "Chris, you are all talk. You will never punch your boss", and that's a good thing. But "all talk" - Chris always says he's going to punch his boss, but he never actually does. Maybe you have a friend like this. I have another friend who says that, you know, she's going to quit her job. She hates her job and she's always saying: "You know, I'm going to quit my job. I'm going to quit my job." But she hasn't for a very long time, so you might say: "You're all talk." Okay? Meaning: You're not going to do it. Another expression we have here is: "all for it". "All for it" means when you strongly agree with a decision or an action. So, for example, I just told you about my friend who wants to quit her job - I'm all for it. That means I strongly agree with her to quit her job, because she's so unhappy there. "All for it". "All for it" is when we strongly agree with an action or a decision. Imagine you are at your friend's place, and somebody wants to order a pizza. If you agree with this decision, you can say: "I'm all for it. I'm all for ordering pizza." Okay? Maybe you want to study in Toronto. Maybe you're learning English, and your dream is to come to Toronto to study English. I'm from Toronto, so what I would say to that is: "I'm all for it." That means I agree with your decision. Okay? So, these are just some of the ways we can use "all for it". Let's look at some other examples of expressions with "all" in them. So, our next expression is kind of interesting because it has the word "all" in it twice. "All in all". "All in all". So, what does "all in all" mean? Well, we use it to mean everything considered, or it's another way to say: "On the whole". So, for example, maybe I'm talking about my trip - my trip to France, and I'm saying: "Oh, the food was great, you know, the people were wonderful, I loved it, but it rained, you know, so that was kind of disappointing, but everything else was amazing." When I look at the trip completely, what I can say when I consider everything, I can say: "All in all, we had an amazing time in France". "All in all" - when you consider everything. "All in all, you know, there's some things I like about English, maybe some things like certain types of grammar are annoying; but all in all, English is a really cool language." […]

The following travel guide will highlight 20 things to do when you visit Milan, Italy 1) Milan Catherdral (Il Duomo - Duomo di Milano - Domm de Milan) 2) Il Duomo Terrace 3) Italian Breakfast - Cappuccino and sweet Italian pastries 4) Sforza Castle - Castello Sforzesco 5) The Galleria - Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II 6) Risotto alla Milanese - Milan style risotto 7) Street Art around Porta Ticinese 8) Colonne di San Lorenzo - Columns of San Lorenzo Roman Ruins 9) Boat tour down the canal (linea traghetti gaggiano milano) 10) Dine along the canal in Milan's Navigli District 11) Aperitivo drinks and buffet - Apéritifs and digestifs 12) Shopping in Milan down Via Torino 13) Visiting Chinatown for some Chinese food 14) Ride a bicycle in Milan like a local 15) Pizza al taglio (pizza al trancio) Italian pizza by the slice 16) Basilica of Sant'Eustorgio containing relics of the 3 Magi 17) Duomo Museum covering the cathedrals history in-depth 18) New City Views with a hop-on-hop-off bus pass 19) Museum of Natural History - Museo Civico di Storia Naturale di Milano 20) Night views of Milan nearby Il Duomo http://nomadicsamuel.com/photo-essays/20-things-milan-blogville Our trip to Milan, Lombardy was part of the Blogville project where we stayed in a local apartment and experienced all of the best cultural activities, museums, restaurants, arts and entertainment the city has to offer. This city guide is our best attempt to create a mix of best attractions and off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't necessarily find in a typical Milan tourism brochure. 20 Things to do in Milan Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: Our first stop was Il Duomo, which is the most recognized attraction in the city. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. So we've sat down at a little cafe and we're going to have our first Italian breakfast with cappuccino and sweet pastries. Something that surprised us about Milan is that there is a castle right in the middle of the city. Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan, and it then underwent several restorations and expansions in the following centuries. Today it houses several of the city's most prized art possessions, including frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo's very last sculpture. For some upscale designer shopping, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the place to be. So we just found a local little restaurant and we're going to be trying a traditional dish that is very popular in this city and in the Lombardy region. We are going to have Risotto alla Milanese. The Colonne di San Lorenzo are the remains of Roman ruins that date back to the 2nd century. They are believed to have been part of a bath house. Another fun activity to try in Milan is a boat tour of the canals. The city's canals are attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, who in 1482 was called over by the Duke of Milan to help renovate the city’s canal system. Milan's Navigli District is one of the liveliest parts of town especially when the sun goes down for dining al fresco. So we've gone out for our first Italian Aperitivo. Which is kind of like a pre-dinner drinking tradition. Basically, you get yourself a cocktail for about 10 Euros and that gives you access to this massive buffet. And that's all for our visit to Milan. We hope this video will give you some cool ideas of sights and attractions to check out. This is part of our Travel in Italy series showcasing Italian culture, Italian arts, Italian foods & Italian cuisine. http://www.myspace.com/jamesroseman Original music, lyrics, and composition by James Roseman. All parts performed by James Roseman (solo project). Footage from a month-long trip over the past summer to Madagascar with World Challenge. The footage hails from various cities and national parks along with the Dodwell Trust- a school where we (15 students and 4 adults) taught English and performed manual labor. The trip was focused on leadership, so the students chose everything from food quantity to arranging bus rides and hotel rooms (which I did most of- being one of two students who spoke French on the trip). All lyrics and parts of the song are the creative properties of James Roseman.

London UK Trip | Hi-Ttech and Cool Place to visit | Balakrishna G | Part 1
Hello Friends, I this video I am going to share pictures of my London trip which was in June 2016 to Sep-16. Though this was a summer for London but for us it was a cool and chilled climate. The morning temperature was about 12 degree and in noon about 16 degree. We were enjoying this climate a lot. Surprisingly, in London sunlight remains until 8 PM in night. Gradually, after 8 PM starts dark. London City is a cool and clean city. Well maintained and well disciplined. I really appreciate traffic rules. Everyone one obey traffic rules there and for bicycle they have a separate lane. They have a system of parking by-cycle which is manged by one of MNC bank. We just need to swipe 2 pounds form the lock and start. Again park to the destination parking and go on. Friends, this video is just the staring from Bangalore, India. We were just on the way to office and captures few pics in day and in he night walk. I will continue to additional video of this trip. So, enjoy this part 1 video and see you later on part 2 with amazing pics of London and surrounding places of London.
