Why Clothes Matter

04:39
The clothes we choose to wear constitute some of our most crucial and carefully chosen lines of autobiography. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/VVUMvO Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ https://goo.gl/RLVrm9 FURTHER READING "Once, we were all dressed by someone else. Parents picked out a T-shirt; the school dictated what colour our trousers should be. But at some point, we were granted the opportunity to discover who we might be in the world of clothes. We had to decide for ourselves about collars and necklines, fit, colours, patterns, textures and what goes (or doesn’t) with what. We learnt to speak about ourselves in the language of garments. Despite the potential silliness and exaggeration of sections of the fashion industry, assembling a wardrobe is a serious and meaningful exercise." Jessica Schroeder Quirk is the author behind What I Wore, a personal-style and fashion-based blog, and What I Wore: Four Seasons, One Closet, Endless Recipes for Personal Style, due in bookstores this summer. A graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Apparel Merchandising, Jessica worked as a fashion designer in New York City from 2005-2009. She has been quoted in Women's Wear Daily and the Wall Street Journal and been featured in the New York Post, Time Out New York, Lucky Magazine and Paper Magazine. Jessica has been a twice-featured speaker at the Independent Fashion Blogger's Evolving Influence Conference during New York Fashion Week. 14 Dressing Rules Everyone Should Learn Once and for All

04:35
How to choose clothes that suit you? “Dress shabbily, and they remember the dress; dress impeccably, and they remember the woman,” Coco Chanel said. It’s hard to disagree with her because clothes are a very important part of our image. Any flaw can be noticed — especially when you are going to meet someone for the first time. Bright Side has collected the most basic rules that will help you to look perfect all the time. TIMESTAMPS A jacket 0:11 A shirt or blouse 0:40 Bijouterie 1:00 How to tie a tie 1:19 A dress 1:38 A men shirt 1:58 A women shirt 2:11 A belt 2:33 A cardigan 2:47 How to wear a belt 3:03 Tags on clothes 3:21 Prints 3:36 A blouse 3:52 Socks 4:07 SUMMARY The middle button on a jacket should always be closed. When you are wearing a shirt or a blouse, you can unbutton no more than 2 buttons. Wear earrings that match your bracelet and a necklace that goes well with your ring. The tip of your tie should reach your waist and cross it just a little. Opt for either a miniskirt or cleavage. Both at once look too vulgar. If you are wearing a shirt without a jacket, you don’t need a tie. Your office shirt cleavage should not be deeper than 4″ from your collarbone. If you tucked in your shirt, you should wear a belt. Your naked skin should not be seen between your cardigan and your jeans. Wear a top if necessary. Your belt should be the same color as your shoes. All visible tags on clothes should be cut off. Don’t wear too many prints. Your socks should be long enough that your naked legs aren’t seen when you are sitting. An office blouse without sleeves should cover your shoulders. Share these tips with a friend of yours who is going to an important job interview or a coworker who is having trouble choosing a tie. Make the world around you a little better! Does Appearance Matter? - AP Psych Dunkin Donuts Experiment

07:33
This is a short experiment film shot in Boston, MA for AP Psychology. We went to four different Dunkin Donuts in Boston. Two of the times nicely dressed as business man, the other two times in raggedy clothes. Both times pretending to forget his wallet, Elliot (my brother/actor) asked for the food or drink free. When in a suit, they gave it too him right away no problem. However when shabbily dressed, they said no... While the experiment is far from conclusive, it suggests that our appearance has a huge impact. In case you're wondering, we went back and got permission to use the footage and paid for the item. (I apologize for the shaky hidden camera footage and bad audio in certain places!) Thanks for watching! Boston, 2014

You are that person who makes hiring decisions and evaluates the performance of others. There is a lot to be said for the non-verbal signals we send to each other; the social signals we send to people by how we look and how we dress. This is a new realization that I'm having again. I'm realizing that as I move into the business arena more, I need to get my button up shirts and start wearing them every day. How To Look GOOD For Less! (3 Ways To Improve Your Appearance)

07:16
One thing that helps boost your mood and confidence is looking good, but how do you look good for less? This video was recorded for #LidlSurprises #AD. Available in Lidl stores from the 10th May, here's a link to the catalogue here: http://goo.gl/DuTKtd One of the first ways I started to get more confidence and boost my mood was by improving how I looked. I've spoken about the importance of appearance in previous videos, but how do you look good for less? In this video I give you 3 tips to help improve your appearance without breaking the bank. 1. Focus on Function, Not Brand. For this example I tested out the Beard & Hair Trimmer from Lidl's for just £22.99. A lot of the times we focus on brands, where we'll pay a premium, but surely function is more important? 2. Shop Second Hand One man's trash is another man's treasure, don't be afraid to shop second hand. Whether it's vintage shoes from eBay or clothing being sold by a friend, some of my best purchases have been second hand. 3. Shop Offline Too With online becoming more competitive and offline retail being in decline, more stores are now discounting their stock. Don't be afraid to shop offline to get bargains as well. The trimmer is available in Lidl stores from the 10th May, here's a link to the catalogue here: http://goo.gl/DuTKtd Subscribe to the channel and follow the journey here: http://www.youtube.com/c/paulmcgregorvideos Follow me on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/pmcgregorcom Join over 3500 better men in the FREE Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/coffeewithpaul Like me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pmcgregorcom Find out more about me and my story: http://www.pmcgregor.com

DRESSING CULTURE FOR AN INTERVIEW-TIPS

04:50
Freshersworld.com explains how to answer the Job interview question, Dressing Culture for an interviews? or how to dress for an interview?, Tips, techniques & preparation to tackle type of interview questions, visit http://www.freshersworld.com/interview/campus-interview?src=Youtube for more detailed career information & growth. YOU CANNOT Take a RISK BY BEING BORING AND CONVENTIONAL! Whatever is the job, you want the interviewer to remember you for your personality and performance: not as "the one with the garish tie/short skirt/nose stud ....". Dressing professionally demonstrates respect, and also shows the employer that you take the interview seriously. In fact, according to one survey conducted online it was found that 93 percent of executives believe that an employee’s style of dress at work influences his or her chances for getting selected in the job interviews and also promotions, after they get the job. Although job-related skills an experience rank high in importance in whether or not you land the position, during the initial hiring process they have less power than most of us think. That’s because the first thing we notice about someone is their appearance, and more specifically, the way they are dressed. It is true that one should really research a potential employer and know what they do and as much as possible on how they do it, but on the day you walk in and ask them to hire you, I'm pretty sure the game demands that you still look your best. So, Now you would be thinking what should be going into the dressing? I will answer that question individually for males and females, but before I get into that, Let me tell about the colour coordination which is general of both. Do you know that Orange was the worst colour to be worn in an interview, all the executives feels it unacceptable, followed by red and pink. Also make a check if there are any Stains and dirty marks because that is also one of the major reasons that turns off the executive. So Stick to safe colours like navy blue, black , grey and white. &Warning if you are wearing white make sure you maintain the colour till the end. MEN SHOULD WEAR Conventional dark-coloured suit (black, navy or charcoal grey are good) with a conservative shirt: plain pastel shades or modest stripes and dark polished shoes. Wear a belt and dark coloured tie. Don't wear light coloured socks or too much aftershave! WOMEN SHOULD WEAR Conventional suit or coordinating jacket and knee-length skirt. Dark colours suggest authority but bright can work with care. Wear tights. Don't wear lots of frills, trousers unless smart, low cut tops, or lots of make-up, perfume or jewellery. Make sure your hair is neat and tidy. Very high heels are not wise - it's important to feel comfortable in what you are wearing. The Office: Jim's 9 Season Style Transformation | From Slob to Suave

So this is in no way criticism but a love letter to the show and it took everything in me to not make this an extended 40 minute analysis full of the great comedy, storylines, and characters that unfolded over 10 years on television. I always identified with John Krisinskis character Jim Halpert as the tall, slender, fun loving hopeless romantic office professional just trying to win the girl and make a living Not only from a character standpoint but in his style evolution- he and I both went from a bushy haired baggy shirt wearing man boy into slightly less boy looking tailored shirt wearing modern gent. Every year or two my wife and I re-watch the whole series from beginning to end and this year I was particularly struck with Jim’s transformation in style throughout the show. I think you too can make this evolution as Jim did- Gradually and confidently. I want to start with a Kudos to series costume designers * Carey Bennett 05-08 (season 1-4) * Alysia Raycraft 08-13 (season 5-9) - the show is a mockumentary style and it was so grounded and perfectly captured what Stanley refers to in Season 9 as Pennsylvania business I’d just call it middle America city office professional. Let’s take a closer look at Jim and his evolution of style starting with season 1. We’ll talk about Jim’s choice in color pallets, hairstyles, clothing fit, and of course his watch. No one can blame Jim Halpert for the late 90s and early 2000s but by the end of the show Jim rocks the modern business casual in a way that season one Jim would barely recognize. From the moment we meet Jim Halpert in the first episode of the office he’s always a very carefree, informal, nice guy and extremely relatable as he cares enough about his job to keep it but not enough to pour his heart into it. His clothing and appearance reflect that. His hair is always perfectly disheveled and appears to pay no particular attention to what he is wearing each day as long as it’s a shirt and tie. As you would expect with office attire Jim wears a lot of blues, whites, and some creams but the shirts are always way too big. You can see in almost every shot his shirt is just hanging off of him, the shoulders do not line up well, he has extreme muffin top, and it’s rare to see Jim with his sleeves not rolled up but chances are they’re too long for his arms. We also get a few glimpses into probably the biggest mistake he could make which is to improperly match his shoes and belt not to mention the shoes themselves His style remains largely the same through season 1 and 2. We do get a few glimpses at “casual Jim” which he makes similar style gaffs in his v-neck sweaters showing his undershirt and who can blame him for the AndOne era of basketball style with big baggy shorts. At the end of season 2 Jim takes his big leap with Pam and comes up short landing him in Stamford CT with a new promotion and a slightly upgraded style to match.

From the ever-growing list of bloggers, YouTube channels, Instagram influencers to Tumblr and Pinterest inspiration, as well as countless subscription services, we live in a time that there’s an abundance of resources to help men dress better. Dressing well has always been an ideal worth striving for, [Tweet this] but that ideal is more important now than ever. Look around and what do you see? Men who just don’t seem to care. You see ultimate style sins, ill-fitting clothing, poor color combinations, clashing patterns, a lack of attention to detail, blind trend chasing. The list goes on and on. It doesn’t take much to break from the sea of unkempt guys out there. Here’s the million-dollar question: why don’t more men dress like they give a damn? I think a big part has to do with not knowing where to start. And not knowing what dressing well actually looks like. Another reason being that style and dressing up is associated with fashion, and “fashion is for girls.” Or a man might be perceived as gay for dressing stylishly. Many men just don’t believe it’s all that important. And that’s fine. It takes some guys a bit longer to realize the power in dressing well. STYLE IN OUR TIME Gentleman, it’s time to embrace this renaissance by looking inward. The clothes won’t make the man, but they can break him. People judge and form opinions about us in a matter of seconds. The first thing people notice is our appearance. It may be shallow, but it’s human nature. When we have nothing else to go by, we classify people as competent or incompetent based on their style. A poorly dressed man will be seen as incompetent and unkempt in other areas of his life, regardless of how successful he is. You want to give the best representation of who you are from the start. By dressing up, you can show up knowing that you’re putting your best self forward. Your confidence will skyrocket and people will notice. WHO TELLS YOUR STORY? You want to dress comfortably, you want to dress appropriately for the situation, and you want to dress in a way that tells your story the way you want to tell it. Personal style is unique to you. It’s okay to mirror what you like, but ultimately it’s about putting your own spin on it. You want to develop a personal style that reflects the man on the inside. And in time you will find that dressing well becomes effortless—and that ease carries through to other parts of your life as well. It’s simple: the better you dress, the better you feel, and the more inspired you will be to take action, to tackle the plans and goals you’ve been kicking around in your head for all these years. But first, what kind of story do you want to tell? Every day, you tell a story with your clothes. What kind of story do you want to tell? There is a renaissance happening, gentleman. Men are striving to dress better and learning the importance of why it pays to be a stylish man. They are inspiring others to be their best selves. The men who put thought and effort into developing their personal style are in a position to live better in all aspects of life. Ultimately, style comes from within. - - - - - - - - - - - - ✖Let's Connect W E B S I T E: https://gentlemanwithin.com T W I T T E R: http://twitter.com/thegentwithin F A C E B O O K: http://facebook.com/gentlemanwithin I N S T A G R A M: http://instagram.com/thegentwithin S O U N D C L O U D: http://gentlemanwithin.com/soundcloud P I N T E R E S T: http://pinterest.com/gentlemanwithin G O O G L E +: http://plus.google.com/+Gentlemanwithin S N A P C H A T: khoiii - - - - - - - - - - - - ✖Exclusive Stuff ➢Check out the ‘I Am A Gentleman’ Manifesto → http://bit.ly/2vQewP5 ➢A Crash Course to Better Style → http://bit.ly/2nFUSS1 ➢Join the Gentlemen Within Private Facebook Community → http://bit.ly/2wYuH1n

YOU LOOK DISGUSTING

03:12
Three months ago, I began posting images of myself without makeup on social media. The following film contains real comments that were left on images of my face. ** Click Show More** Over the past few months, I've received thousands of messages from people all over the world who suffer or have suffered from acne, an insecurity or self confidence issues. I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that It can be hard to remember the most important thing - You ARE beautiful. You are beautiful - no matter how flawed you feel, no matter how upset you may about the way you look or how hard you find it to make friends, or be confident. Believe in yourself, and never let anyone tell you're not beautiful - not even yourself. Audible 30 day free trial: https://goo.gl/x64Vb9 Website: www.primedlifestyle.com Instagram: Primed Thumbnail art from this insanely talented artist: https://h-boogie.deviantart.com Here’s the only thing that truly matters if you want to succeed with anything - provide results and be valuable. Results is the only thing people care about and if you fail to deliver results you will never make it. So if you develop these 8 traits you will be far better off when it comes to providing results. Trait 1. The rich pay themselves first. Trait 2. The rich base their decisions on long term rewards rather than instant gratification. Trait 3. Rich people have several sources of income. Trait 4. Rich people continuously invest in themselves. And if you want to be almost as cool as John and invest in yourself through audiobooks, you can sign up through my audible link to their 30 day free trial and get 2 books for free. https://goo.gl/x64Vb9 I suggest the $100 dollar start up to start off with or anything from Grant Cardone because of the passion and intensity he talks with. And you can cancel the membership any time and still keep the books. Trait 5. The rich never blames, but take full responsibility for their failures. Trait 6. The rich don’t sleep in. Trait 7: The rich have clear vision or purpose. Trait 8. The rich makes progress before entertainment. Thanks for watching! Appearance Matters

02:22
If you are going to speak in public and don´t know what to wear, think about the following: - Where are you going to present your topic? - What type of clothing, jewelry, hairstyle, and accessories better align with your message? - What makes you feel more comfortable? - What can you wear so you don't accidentally blend with the environment? - What dress code can you choose to avoid being a distraction to your message? Conclusion: be your authentic self, and align with your content. Remember, it's not about you, it's about your audience!
