But one of the richest men in the world has made his fortune through the most traditional business you can think about - selling clothes. In fact, in the summer of 2017, the shares of his company soared and for a couple of hours and he held the title of the richest man in the world. But Gates claimed back his position later on the same day. Without any formal education except for the first few years in school, he has built the largest clothing company in the entire world. It all started in Spain. Back then child labor was normal. So Amancio left school at the age of 13 to start working as a delivery boy in a local shirtmaker shop. Where he learned to make clothes by hand. He loved his job and started excelling at it, so much that by the time he was 24, he was appointed as a manager. Not bad for the 1960s, right? Ortega realized that only the wealthy residents could afford their clothes so he started working on his own designs that are more affordable. He started producing pretty similar designs but at a much lower cost targeting the rest of the residents. His strategy work out and he successfully sold all of his designs and used the earnings to open his first factory in 1963 Finally, in 1975, he decided to establish his own brand and named Zara. Zara’s strategy was absolutely simple, sell quality products for a reasonable price so that everyone could afford them. This strategy seems so obvious, why others didn't use it. When Ortega was working in that shirtmaker store. He realized that how the cost of the garments significantly increase when they move from designers to factories to stores. He learned the importance of delivering products directly to consumers without third-party distributors. So Zara started doing everything by itself. This reducing the cost But Ortego’s ambitions didn't stop there, it was time to go international. He established his first store outside Spanish borders in Portugal, in 1988. And a year later In New York. And since then the company has been unstoppable. Ortega realized he can't target all the segments of the market through Zara. So he acquired many different brands such as Pull&Bear, Bershka, Massimo Dutti and so on. And formed them all under a holding company - Inditex. But Zara is the biggest of them, it accounts for over 60% of total sales. Unlike other brands, Zara didn't waste money on advertisements. It knew that as long as there are quality clothes for affordable prices, people are going to buy them, so they kept opening new stores instead. By the year 2000, Zara had stores all around North America and Europe. So it was time to invade Asia and the rest of the world. Inditex has over 7000 stores now. What also sets them apart is that, since everything is done in-house. Zara can design a product and get them into stores in less 2 weeks compare to 6 month which is industry average. Ortega followed just in time production strategy. That means they made their supply chain so effective that they could supply their stores in less than 48 hours. Which means, they don't need to order more than they need and if something is selling too good. They know that they can have it back on the shelves in 48 hours. That provided Zara with absolutely unique advantage. This incredible success story started with a 13-year-old kid who simply had a dream and didn't have any formal education. It seems like nothing is impossible as long as you are patient, dedicated and hard working. But in today’s world with the rise of the internet, the first thing you have to do when you start a project is to register your domain. Inditex, the owner of Spain's fast-fashion pioneer Zara, reported a rise in 2011 net profit as the retailer doubled its store count in China and continued its swift expansion across Europe and elsewhere - proving it is possible to buck the recession. They've recently launched a global flagship store in New York on 5th Ave. Dow Jones's Christopher Bjork reports from Madrid, and compares Zara to retail giants H&M and the Gap. Photo: Getty. How Zara Took Over The Industry Using Fast Fashion

04:02
Today, we’re going to look at the history of Zara, its parent company Inditex, and the fashion industry in general, to see how it became possible to create such a high churn rate in the fashion industry. An average American will throw away 77 pounds of clothing every year. And that’s true across the majority of the western world. That is two suitcases of clothes, just dumped. Zara’s first store opened in 1975, in a city called A Coruna in northern Spain. Owners Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera had wanted to name it after a favorite Greek film called Zorba the Greek, but a bar on their street had already beat them to the punch, so they settled for Zara, since they had already had the letters made for the sign. Inditex was set up in 1985 as holding company for Zara and the manufacturing plants. They went on to set up and take-over many other high-street brands that follow Zara’s format; such as Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius. They now have over 6000 stores globally. Zara’s early business model was to create similar copies to high end lines but at an affordable price. As they expanded through Spain, Ortega pushed the idea of instant fashion, where Zara could react incredibly quickly to new trends so they could put new lines on the shelves in a fraction of the normal time. -----------------Support the channel: Support this channel: https://www.patreon.com/alexberman SUBSCRIBE for more videos like this: http://youtube.com/alxberman?sub_confirmation=1 Check out our Digital Agency Marketing Podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/hr/podcast/digital-agency-marketing-1/id1200614219?mt=2&ls=1 Need lead generation or marketing support for your agency? 10 Famous Founders Who Don’t Usually Show Their Faces

08:23
Some founders of world-famous brand prefer to stay out of the spotlight and keep themselves a secret. We decided to unveil the mystery and show you the 10 founders of super famous brands producing things you sure use every now and then. Howard Schulz, founder of Starbucks, was inspired by the atmosphere of Italian espresso bars and it’s safe to say that he was the one who made the espresso-based beverages popular in the US. Now you can find a Starbucks almost anywhere in the world. Amancio started his business in the ’70s: He made nightgowns and bathrobes with his wife right in their living room. Once, their German partner declined a huge order and the spouses decided to sell clothes on their own. Later, the company was renamed to Inditex and opened new clothing stores: Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Oysho, Zara Home, Uterqüe, Stradivarius, Lefties, and Bershka. In 2000, the famous Pandora charm bracelet was created: buyers were able to create jewelry of their own design by putting the charms they wanted on the bracelet. Since then, the company has been growing and the Enevoldsen family are one of the richest people in Denmark. In 1969, the musicians from The Doors were recording the album Morrison Hotel. At about the same time, they accidentally came across a diner named Hard Rock Cafe, and their album was exactly in this music style. They made a few pictures in this cafe and then put the photos on the back side of the album cover. A year later, 2 Englishmen called them — Isaac Tigrett and Peter Morton and asked them to let them open a cafe in London named Hard Rock Cafe. At the beginning of the 1930s, Ole Kirk opened a company that made ironing boards and ladders, but he soon started making wooden toys. The word “Lego” consists of 2 Danish words: “leg” (play) and “godt” (good). Fashion Factories Undercover (Documentary) - Real Stories

50:20
Beyond the crumbling walls of sweatshops we find out the true cost of fashion. It’s April 23rd 2013, a busy commercial building in Dhaka, Bangladesh towers over thousands of workers, many of them children. As they toil away in a cramped sweatshop the force of the eight-storey building collapses on to them, killing more than a 1,000 people and permanently disfiguring a further 2,500. It emerges that this building had been condemned and not fit for purpose, yet many workers were caged for 14-hours a day with no escape. This was not just an unfortunate circumstance but one that could easily have been prevented. Through first-hand eyewitness accounts we will investigate the cause of the collapse and reveal how major international brands have ignored the warnings by continuing to use these unsafe buildings and put profit ahead of safety. The Zara Way: How Inditex beats the competition (Business model)

01:42
https://fashionbuyingmerchandising.com/2017/01/04/zara-way-how-inditex-beats-the-competition-business-model/ Fashion forecasting is time consuming and expensive. And there are chances that you get it wrong. Designers often think many seasons ahead but Spanish retailer Zara has a different idea. They listen to what consumers want right now and deliver it quickly, instead of gambling on what the next big trend might be. It's the Zara way! This model relies on quality sales data and observational research. Zara's store managers are pivotal in this process. Store managers interact with clients every day and know what the consumer wants, and products are created with maximum speed. Step 1: The commercial team works with designers to develop products. Step 2: New styles are prototyped in just 5 days. Step 3: 60% of the manufacturing happens locally to speed up the process. Once shipped to the logistics center in Zaragoza (Spain), the products are trucked to a nearby airport and flown all over the world in less than 24h. And off they go! The whole cycle, from concept to store, takes only a month. Fashion is trend-based and brands that are able to respond quickly can achieve competitive advantage. He is the founder and former chairman of Inditex fashion group, best known for its chain of Zara clothing and accessories retail shops. Amancio is the wealthiest retailer in the world Born Amancio Ortega Gaona 28 March 1936 (age 81) Busdongo de Arbás, León, Spain Residence A Coruña, Spain Nationality Spanish Occupation Businessman Known for Co-founder of Inditex Group Net worth DecreaseUS$78.7 billion (October 2017)[1] Board member of Inditex (CEO) Daez (COO) Spouse(s) Rosalía Mera (m. 1966; div. 1986) Flora Pérez Marcote (m. 2001) Children 3 (including Sandra Ortega Mera) Biography[edit] The youngest of four children, Ortega was born in Busdongo de Arbás, León, Spain, to Antonio Ortega Rodríguez and Josefa Gaona Hernández from the province of Valladolid, and spent his childhood in León.[3] He left school and moved to A Coruña at the age of 14, due to the job of his father, a railway worker. Shortly after, he found a job as a shop hand for a local shirtmaker called Gala, which still sits on the same corner in downtown A Coruña, and learned to make clothes by hand.[4] In 1972, he founded Confecciones Goa to sell quilted bathrobes.[citation needed] In 1975, he opened his first Zara store with his wife Rosalía Mera.[5] Today, Zara is part of the Inditex group (Industrias de Diseño Textil Sociedad Anónima), of which Ortega owns 59.29%, and aside from over 6,000 stores includes the brands Zara, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Zara Home, Kiddy's Class, Tempe, Stradivarius, Pull and Bear, Bershka and has more than 92,000 employees.[6] Ortega keeps a very low profile and is known for his preference for a simple lifestyle. Until 1999, no photograph of Ortega had ever been published. He refuses to wear a tie and typically wears a simple uniform of a blue blazer, white shirt, and gray trousers, none of which are Zara products.[7] His public appearance in 2000, as part of the warm-up prior to his company's initial public offering on the stock market in 2001, made headlines in the Spanish financial press. However, he has only ever granted interviews to three journalists.[7] In 2011, Ortega announced his imminent retirement from Inditex, the parent company of the Zara chain, stating that he would ask Inditex vice-president and CEO Pablo Isla to take his place at the helm of the textile empire. In 2012 Ortega donated about €20 million to Caritas Internationalis, a Roman Catholic relief organization I'm going to help you. Telfa miliom is your favorite challenge. Zara (retailer)

13:48
Zara (Spanish: [ˈθaɾa]) is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Arteixo, Galicia, and founded in 1975 by Amancio Ortega and Rosalía Mera. It is the flagship chain store of the Inditex group, The world's largest apparel retailer, the fashion group also owns brands such as Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Uterqüe, Stradivarius and Bershka. It is claimed that Zara needs just two weeks to develop a new product and get it to stores, compared to the six-month industry average, and launches around 10,000 new designs each year. Zara has resisted the industry-wide trend towards transferring fast fashion production to low-cost countries. Perhaps its most unusual strategy was its policy of zero advertising; the company preferred to invest a percentage of revenues in opening new stores instead. This has increased the idea of Zara as a "fashion imitator" company and low cost products. Lack of advertisement is also in contrast to direct competitors such as Uniqlo and United Colors of Benetton. This video is targeted to blind users.
