"My Prayer" (Ink Spots, 1939)

03:20
Bill Kenny's unsullied, poignant tenor and the sonorous recitatives of bass Hoppy Jones were winning trademarks of the Ink Spots at their peak. "My Prayer" was an elegant favorite in 1939 and one of the first songs broadcast over early American television...featured at the 1939 World's Fair. Written by George Boulanger and James Kennedy: MY PRAYER My prayer is to linger with you At the end of the day In a dream that's devine My prayer is a rapture in blue With a world far away And your lips close to mine Tonight while our hearts are aglow Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know My prayer and the answer you give May they still be the same For as long as we live That you'll always be there At the end of my prayer My prayer is to linger with you At the end of each day In a dream that's devine My prayer is a rapture in blue With a world far away And your lips close to mine Tonight while our hearts are aglow Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know My prayer and the answer you give May they still be the same For as long as we live That you'll always be there At the end of my prayer

The Ink Spots were a popular vocal group that helped define the musical genre that led to rhythm & blues and rock and roll, and the subgenre doo-wop. They and the Mills Brothers, another black vocal group of the 1930s and 1940s, gained much acceptance in the white community.

The Ink Spots - My Prayer (1939) HQ

When I first came across the video at Internet Archives for the three-part mini-series "Hotel Room" .. a David Lynch cable TV anthology series that was cancelled after the third episode ... the first and second stories didn't ring a bell. It was the third and final tale that took me back over 22 years to what had to have been my viewing of this final episode on HBO. Either I had never seen the first two episodes or they were not memorable for some reason. This third and final one, entitled "Blackout," was indeed most memorable, and was a real treat after having seen the film "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" which hit cable TV the same year, 1993. Sadly, "Hotel Room" was never released on DVD, but only on VHS tape, which is probably the reason it is currently in the public domain. "Blackout" stars Crispin Glover and Alicia Roanne Witt. Witt and Glover are utterly amazing in their performances, so much so that it is hard to understand the sudden cancellation of the series by HBO. In any event, it is not my intention here to recreate the drama and suspense of "Blackout" but to focus on the period, the dark setting, the dress and styles, and certain of the actors' expressions and mannerisms I found to be most striking in light of my chosen music selection of "My Prayer" by The Ink Spots. Quite a task when you consider the episode was over 46 minutes in length and the song is only 3 minutes and 11 seconds in duration. In the end, the lyrics and song propel us to the same light that concludes the story. From Wikipedia: "My Prayer" is a 1939 popular song with music by salon violinist Georges Boulanger and lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy. It was originally written by Boulanger with the title "Avant de Mourir" in 1926. The lyrics for this version were added by Kennedy in 1939. Glenn Miller recorded the song that year for a #2 hit and The Ink Spots' version featuring Bill Kenny reached #3 as well that year. It has been recorded many times since, but the biggest hit version was a revival in 1956 by The Platters."

Ink Spots - If I Didn't Care

03:53
The Ink Spots singing " If I Didn't Care" Here are the Lyrics: If I didn't care more than words can say If I didn't care would I feel this way? If this isn't love then why do I thrill? And what makes my head go 'round and 'round While my heart stands still? If I didn't care would it be the same? Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name? And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare? Would all this be true if I didn't care for you? MONOLOGUE: If I didn't care honey child, mo' than words can say. If I didn't care baby, would I feel this way? Darlin' if this isn't love, then why do I thrill so much? What is it that makes my head go 'round and 'round while my heart just stands still so much ? If I didn't care would it be the same? Would my ev'ry prayer begin and end with just your name? And would I be sure that this is love beyond compare? Would all this be true if I didn't care for you?

When the twilight is gone And no songbirds are singing When the twilight is gone You come into my heart And here in my heart you will stay While I pray My prayer is to linger with you At the end of the day In a dream that's divine My prayer is a rapture in blue With the world far away And your lips close to mine Tonight, while our hearts are aglow Oh, tell me the words That I'm longing to know My prayer and the answer you give May they still be the same For as long as we live That you'll always be there At the end of my prayer

The Ink Spots - Whispering Grass, 1940

02:56
The Ink Spots - Whispering Grass (Fred & Doris Fisher), Brunswick 1940 NOTE: Tomorrow is an important Polish holiday: All Souls' Day. Polish catholic tradition has made it a day of remembarance and religious meditation upon the pass of time, the sense of life , the Redemption and the prayer for souls of those, who are gone. The climate in this part of Europe always helped people to create that kind of philosophical mood: trees are becoming bare, the cold air sharpens the mind and everyone waits for a wonder of the myriads of lights which are placed on the graves will change the dark evening skies over Polish cemeteries into a glamorous red-orange glow. This is one of those things that put the nation together and even those Poles who live abroad always claim how strong their sense of identity is based upon the Polish variant of All Souls' Day ceremonies. A purely secular Anglo-Saxon Halloween - which in last few years won a certain popularity in more cosmopolitan circles of greater cities - fortunately seems to have a faint chance to become as solid a habit as All Souls' Day has gained through the ages of a Polish history.

02:54
A massive hit for The Platters! Released in June 1956 this one made #4 here in Britain and went all the way to #1 in America! It was an old song even when they recorded it, having previously been released as a single by Glen Miller and The Ink Spots. But it was only this do-wop version by The Platters that made it to the top of the US charts.

My Prayer = Ink Spots The = Volume 2 = Track 5

04:11
Recorded from original Long Play album by the Ink Spots, titled Volume II. The record shown in the video is actually how it looks. It is a opaque yellow with some brown color swirl that gives it an almost wood grain look. The album cover does have a triangle opening that was supposed to let you see the record, which is an epic fail as far as protecting the record. Also on the back cover where the songs on each side are listed, for the list for side two, ‘Stardust’ is not listed, only four songs are listed for side two.

LYRICS: When the twilight is gone and no songbirds are singing When the twilight is gone you come into my heart And here in my heart you will stay while I pray! My prayer is to linger with you At the end of the day in a dream that's divine My prayer is a rapture in blue With the world far away and your lips close to mine! Tonight while our hearts are aglow Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know! My prayer and the answer you give May they still be the same for as long as we live That you'll always be there at the end of my prayer! +++ ALBUM SONGS LIST: My Prayer + My Heart Stood Still & My Foolish Heart! +++ "My Prayer" is a 1939 popular song with music by salon violinist Georges Boulanger and lyrics by Carlos Gomez Barreraand Jimmy Kennedy. It was originally written by Boulanger with the title "Avant de Mourir" in 1926. The lyrics for this version were added by Kennedy in 1939. Glenn Miller recorded the song that year for a number two hit and The Ink Spots' version featuring Bill Kenny reached number three, as well, that year. It has been recorded many times since, but the biggest hit version was a doo-wop rendition in 1956 by The Platters, whose single release reached number one on the Billboard Top 100 in the summer, and ranked four for the year. The Platters recording features in the 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in the 1985 film Mischief, in the 1999 film October Sky, and in two episodes of the 2017 series of Twin Peaks. The Ink Spots' version of the song was featured in the 1992 movie, Malcolm X. Vera Lynn sang the song in the British film One Exciting Night in 1944. The song also became a tango in the Italian version by Norma Bruni and Cinico Angelini's orchestra (1940), "Sì, voglio vivere ancor!". - Wikipedia +++ Frank Chacksfield (1914 – 1995) was an English pianist, organist, composer and conductor of popular light orchestral easy listening music, who had great success in Britain and internationally in the 1950s and early 1960s. He became one of Britain's best known orchestra leaders internationally & is estimated to have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide. His material was "mood music", similar to that of Mantovani & Percy Faith, including ballads, waltzes, and film themes. In 1954, he began presenting a series on BBC TV, which continued occasionally until the early 1960s. Chacksfield was responsible for the musical arrangement of the first UK entry into the Eurovision Song Contest 1957; "All" by Patricia Bredin. He continued to write music, release singles and albums through the 1950s and 1960s, and appeared regularly on BBC radio. - Wikipedia +++ Prof Howdy has gladly uploaded over 1000 Beautiful Romantic H.D. He didn’t make it easy for Himself by avoiding people’s troubles, but waded right in and helped out. +++ MORE BEAUTIFUL CLASSICAL MUSIC VIDEOS: https://goo.gl/c4HspF https://www.facebook.com/groups/EasyListening1950s Google: T3H7P12H NOTE: There is some discussion in the Geek World about what constitutes a 4K Video. iMovie - which these videos are made from - identify this video as 4K.
