4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. I hope this information helps you! Minify WordPress CSS & JS with Autoptimize

02:23
A common piece of advice when it comes to optimizing the performance of your website is to concatenate and minify your CSS and JavaScript. I settled on a WordPress plugin called “Autoptimize” to make it easier for me to do it on this site. Autoptimize, if it’s not obvious, is a combination of the words “automatic” and “optimize”, and that’s just what it is, easy optimization of thing that are hard for non-developers to do. Inline CSS: What Is It?

04:52
Inline CSS: What Is It? https://youtu.be/MaLSXxwlYno Inline CSS is very common, mostly because it's the 'lazy way' of doing things. Sometimes you will encounter styling that you can't find the source of and often it's easier to put the CSS right in the HTML, which overrides other CSS commands. However, it's not clean code. It's always best to not use inline CSS or inline blocks and put all your CSS in the style sheet. That's all there is to it. I hope this video helps you! If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below. And before you go, subscribe and like :) If you're into Wordpress, check out my WPLearningLab channel to learn more about WordPress so you can earn more for yourself, for your clients or for your business: https://www.youtube.com/wplearninglab
Remove Render Blocking Javascript and CSS With Autoptimize Plugin

11:23
Improve site performance for your WordPress Blog and remove render-blocking Javascript and CSS. This can all be accomplished with the Autoptimize Plugin and a free tool called Critical Path CSS Generator (see link below). The correct Autoptimize plugin settings will remove render-blocking Javascript and render-blocking CSS. That is Javascript or CSS that loads above the fold, thereby impacting your website performance. By eliminating this render-blocking code from your site, you will see a drastic improvement to your website load times. https://jonassebastianohlsson.com/criticalpathcssgenerator/ And if you're interested in how to combine external javascript and/or CSS to reduce the number of HTTP requests, take a look at my latest video: https://youtu.be/I2j-cVQ7MhI

Front End Center — Why Inline SVG is Best SVG

16:15
SVG is one of the most powerful tools in a front-end developer's arsenal, and while its browser support is excellent, there's enough rough edges that a lot of people consistently reach for an alternative such as icon fonts, static images or CSS-only drawing techniques. In this episode we'll look at what can be achieved by writing SVG by hand, simple effects that can add a lot to an interaction that only need a handful of lines of SVG + CSS. But we'll also consider why it is that Inline SVG, in particular, is so much easier to work with than embedding SVG in other ways. Want to see more? Subscribe at https://frontend.center

Build HTML Tables In WordPress | WP Learning Lab

13:37
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL Creating a WordPress HTML table is just like creating a regular HTML table only you're doing it in WordPress. You still use the same tags, table, tr, th, td and the same styles. Luckily, creating tables is quite easy and it's a great way to display data. The biggest drawback of tables is that they are not mobile responsive. So you need to test your tables on mobile to make sure they work how you expect. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that your table doesn't have too many columns because those are what will get in you trouble on mobile. Important table tags you need to know: table - this tag contains the table in its entirety. You can add specific parameters and styles to this tag. Parameters include border, cellpadding and cellspacing. The CSS using the style parameter to create inline styles and the sky is the limit if you know CSS. If you want to learn some CSS check out my CSS channel over here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw tr - This tag defines the rows of the table. th - Is a special cell tag that goes inside the tr tags. It is the heading data cell. Anything you enter into this cell will centered and bolded. These cells are normally only contained in one row in a table (the heading row). Heading cells are optional. td - This is a regular data cell that will populate every other row in your table. These td tags will contain your data. You can have as many rows (tr) as you want. Inside the rows, the number of td tags will define how many columns your table has. Remember the more columns you have the more likely it is that your table won't be mobile optimized. I have created a blog post will sample CSS and sample CSS selectors that you can copy and paste. Here's the link: https://wplearninglab.com/contact-form-7-css-style-almost-anything/ I'll also paste the styles below: /* Submit Button CSS Styles */ .wpcf7 input[type=submit] { padding:15px 45px; background:#FF0000; color:#fff; font-size:30px; font-weight:bold; border:0 none; cursor:pointer; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; border-radius: 5px; } /* Label Text Styles */ .wpcf7 label { padding: 0 0 10px 0; font-size: 20px; } /* Text Input Field Styles */ .wpcf7 input[type=text], .wpcf7 input[type=email], .wpcf7 input[type=url], .wpcf7 input[type=tel], .wpcf7 input[type=number], .wpcf7 .wpcf7-select{ font-size:30px; border: 1px solid red; } /* Textarea Field Styles */ .wpcf7 textarea { width: 100%; color: red; font-size: 20px; border-color:red; } /* Overall form styles */ .wpcf7 { background-color:gray; } Remember that these styles need to go into your CSS stylesheet or if you are putting them right into the header of your site they need to be between style tags. If you are lucky enough to have a theme that allows custom CSS, you can copy and paste them into there. If you're not sure where to find a place where you can enter CSS, this tutorial may help you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLSUWT9MNlA CSS is a very forgiving language, so if you make a change that makes something look really bad just undo your change, save and everything is back to normal. 8 Inline CSS style is nothing but a element Attribute

04:54
This was yet another Aha moment .For centuries together ,i could just not figure my head about understanding the style definitions written internally .This again is not good practise and it's always better writing the style sheets and Javascript in seperate folders for the same .However ,it serves well to know how they are written lest you need to analyse a code where style's have been written internally .Like discussed in teh video ,the common attribute key here stays as style and then the attribute value like any other attribute value is within quotes where we basically define the CSS properties

WordPress How to Make Horizontal MailChimp Web Form with First Name and Email Fields UPDATED

10:20
This is a new video for creating a horizontal form with Email and First Name fields for MailChimp. It has simplified code for both the HTML form of what to put into WordPress and very simple CSS code for your theme's style sheet. The theme I used in this video is WordPress 2012. Your theme may override some of the form fields, making things look weird. Play with the padding and margins on the CSS code to adjust your form. The HTML code without any spaces/line breaks and divs removed and CSS are in this blog post article: http://bit.ly/17vOTiP. For anyone wanting to use Magic Action Box plugin, I do a walkthrough here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4anQFeTFVpg

How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles

08:53
http://wordpresspowersites.org/how-to-edit-wordpress-theme-css-styles/ How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles As a web developer, I frequently wrangle with codes. one of such is building and customizing WordPress Themes. Am a big fan of WordPress Genesis framework, i do use it to build amazing WordPress themes. I also install and further customize their child themes to suite my style. If you really want to know, my blog is using the Genesis Focus Theme. I have seen quite a number of WordPress users making CSS changes inside the wordpress theme template core stylesheet. I do wonder, what if something goes wrong, how do you revert back to the initial design? Some will say, they do make backup of their theme before making any changes to the CSS. i see that as a pain in the ass. Reasons You Shouldn't Alter Your WordPress Theme CSS stylesheet Damage Of Theme -- Not everyone has the habit of always backing up files before editing. If for example, you made a change to your theme style sheet, and after previewing, you didn't like the output, you may have difficulty changing or reverting the changes. Mind you, CTRL-Z won't work 'cos the browser was loaded when you saved the changes, therefore, you can't undo the change. Keep Theme Design Even After Update -- If you make changes to your theme files, all your customization will be lost if you update the theme to the latest version. If you follow the best practice rule below, you may still have your site customization even after an update only if the update didn't change the CSS ids and classes of the theme. but the customization can be lost if it was a major theme update like from version 1.5 to maybe 2.0 It can speed up theme customization time. For those of us using WordPress theme framework like Genesis, Thesis, e.t.c that develop themes as child themes of their framework, it is advisable you don't make any changes to the CSS style sheet. rather Get either the CSS ID, class or both controlling the design of the theme and add either an Internal Style Sheet or External Style Sheet below the theme external stylesheet. NOTE -- adding the new stylesheet you want to overwrite the theme CSS must not be above the default WordPress CSS stylesheet else it won't have an effect. More on WordPress Theme CSS Practice ALTERNATIVELY There are plugins that can save you of the above stress. all you need do is, place the CSS you want to over-rule in the specified plugin textarea, save and preview the output. Some of this custom WordPress custom CSS plugins include: Jetpack Custom -- If you are new to WordPress or even if you are a Pro, i advice you install and use Jetpack my Automattic(founder of WordPress). one of the feature that come with it is the Custom CSS. i personally use it to make CSS changes to my theme. to use this jetpack feature, you have to install Jetpack plugin. PC Custom CSS -- This plugin provides an easy and effective way to use your own custom CSS code with any theme. it a top-notch plugin when it comes to adding custom CSS. saying from my experience using it. WP Live CSS Editor -- A CSS live Editor that allows you to edit, preview changes and save all your project's CSS stylesheets live in the browser. My Custom CSS -- With this plugin you can put custom css code without edit your theme and/or your plugins (really useful in case of any theme/plugin update). Live CSS Preview -- This plugin adds a textarea to the new Customize page that allows theme editors to write, preview & implement css code in real-time. Why to use CSS selectors instead of adding styles inline

04:44
So far we've used the "style" HTML property to apply our CSS to specific elements. But, when we have multiple elements that share the same CSS, we can avoid the problems of copying and pasting identical code by using selectors. In this video we introduce you to selector basics.
