Undressing Israel: Gay Men In The Promised Land

46:16
When many people think of Israel, it is often in terms of modern war or ancient religion. But there is much more to the Jewish state than missiles and prayers. In his debut as a documentary filmmaker, adult-film entrepreneur and political columnist Michael Lucas examines a side of Israel that is too often overlooked: its thriving gay community. Undressing Israel features interviews with a diverse range of local men, including a gay member of Israel’s parliament, a trainer who served openly in the army, a young Arab-Israeli journalist, and a pair of dads raising their kids. Lucas also visits Tel Aviv’s vibrant nightlife scene—and even attends a same-sex wedding—in this guided tour to a country that has emerged as a pioneer for gay integration and equality.

Israel Gay Men In The Promised Land

03:12
Jerusalem will be the main location for this year’s annual “Gay Pride Parade” rather than in the traditional location of Tel Aviv. According to sources, Jerusalem is both Israel’s capital and largest city. However, its gay pride parade is much smaller than then one in Tel Aviv, which has a large LGBT community and prides itself on its tolerant environment. The decision to hold Israel’s main gay pride parade in Jerusalem this year instead of Tel Aviv was pushed by the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance in order to protest for equal rights for the LGBT community. It seems that we are now seeing the passage from the book of Revelation come more to light than any time before. In the Revelation Chapter Eleven Verse Eight, The Bible tells us that the Spiritual condition of Jerusalem during the time of the murdering of the two witnesses in the future will be that of Egypt and Sodom.

After that terrible experience, Louie fled to Israel. Despite being a Palestinian living there illegally, Israel provides a safe refuge from his vengeful family and fellow Palestinians. Life is not easy in Tel Aviv, but Louie no longer needs to fear for his life and is accepted within Israel's gay community. He's learned to be tough and make sure that he doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Every time the Israelis expel him he sneaks back into Israel. He works illegally and avoids all contact with Palestinians and even Israeli Arabs who may give him up to his family in Nablus. In Jaffa where his family work he won't even walk the streets. As the cab drives past his family's kiosk he covers his face and says urgently, "drive, drive faster." "Unfortunately, Israel doesn't provide protection for people in your situation." says Anat from an Israeli refugee charity which can help him get asylum overseas. He doesn't want to leave the country, but ten years on the run have worn him down. He meets a successful refugee applicant named Abdu who is waiting to leave. Their friendship blossoms and Abdu tries to convince Louie to leave, but also brings him inside the Arab gay scene in Israel. Despite starting the refugee process Louie is still torn about leaving his homeland, "I want to breathe my culture, my land." Abdu leaves and Louie is alone in Tel Aviv. Both men desperately miss the families that persecute them. "We all live in yearning, I miss my father," Louie says. After receiving an offer of asylum, Louie learns the news of his father's death, "I was hoping that one day I'd be able to tell him, "forgive me, my father. I was born this way". But as he makes his way to the train station, he is caught by police and deported back to the West Bank. Will Louie ever be able to find the freedom he needs to live his life as a gay man? A truly heartbreaking story. Mozer Films - Ref. 5538 Every week Journeyman offers a brand new documentary, fresh out of the cutting room. 250,000 people celebrate Tel Aviv’s 20th Gay Pride Parade

02:19
(8 Jun 2018) Ripped men in white underwear, pink bunny ears and black bow ties gyrated through the streets of Tel Aviv along with drag queens and others to loud trance music for the annual Gay Pride Parade on Friday - the biggest event of its kind in the region and drawing people from around the world to party. The Tel Aviv Municipality said 250,000 people celebrated on Friday. The good times in Tel Aviv contrasted sharply with events just 70 kilometres (44 miles) to the south, were Israeli soldiers braced for a mass Palestinian rally along the Gaza border. The Islamic militant group that rules Gaza has been leading weekly demonstrations that have turned violent, with 115 Palestinians killed since late March. Israel says it's defending its sovereign border, including nearby communities. Israel has emerged as one of the world's most gay-friendly travel destinations in recent years, in sharp contrast to the rest of the Middle East where gay culture is often not tolerated. In Israel, homosexuals serve openly in Israel's military and parliament, and many popular artists and entertainers are homosexual. Thousands strike over exclusion of gay men from new Israel surrogacy law

03:12
(22 Jul 2018) Tens of thousands of Israeli LGBT advocates and their supporters went on strike across the country on Sunday, protesting the exclusion of gay men from a recently passed surrogacy law. The community was outraged that although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had pledged to pass legislation supporting surrogacy for gay fathers, he voted against it, apparently under pressure from his ultra-Orthodox Jewish coalition partners. Protesters marched in Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities, waving rainbow flags and briefly blocking a major highway. Tel Aviv's central Rabin Square was packed with tens of thousands of people for the main demonstration, while hundreds protested near Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem. The protest grew into a general call for equality, following other recent controversial legislation that appeared to target Israeli liberalism. Israel emerged as one of the world's most gay-friendly travel destinations in recent years, in sharp contrast to the rest of the Middle East where gays are persecuted and even killed. In Israel, homosexuals serve openly in Israel's military and parliament, and many popular artists and entertainers are homosexual. However, leaders of the gay community say Israel still has far to go in promoting equality. Tel Aviv Gay Pride Week accused of "pinkwashing" Israeli abuses

00:53
Tel Aviv has become in the last decade a choice destination for the gay community on holiday, and Gay Pride Week which kicks off on Friday has become huge, with 200,000 people expected to party. From a couple of thousand gay tourists in 2006 to some 50,000 today it has been a goldmine for the city and a touted success for the Brand Israel campaign, launched in 2005. Its brief was to change Israel's image from a country at war to a fun, liberal playground, modern and welcoming. 200,000 Party in Tel Aviv Gay Pride Parade

01:00
TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Colorfully-dressed drag queens and bare-chested muscular men on floats are partying alongside thousands of others from the LGBT community at Tel Aviv's annual gay pride parade, the largest event of its kind in the Middle East. Israeli media said 200,000 people joined the festivities Friday. Israel is widely tolerant of gay people, and Tel Aviv has emerged as one of the world's most gay-friendly travel destinations. But homosexuality is often shunned in religiously observant Jewish and Muslim communities in Israel. Jerusalem, known for its rich religious history, holds a modest pride parade. ►Circle us on Google + http://goo.gl/TXeBfX ►Subscribe Channel http://goo.gl/mqt0wI ►Don't forget to Like * Comment * Share this video. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Stay tuned, Stay connected

Ultra orthodox man being dragged along by policemen 22. Two women marching at gay parade kissing STORYLINE: A week before a gay pride parade hits the streets of Jerusalem, the city's religious Jews warned that it will spark a violent reaction and a government minister said the march might have to be cancelled altogether in order to keep the peace. Gay rights activists fear the parade could be similar to last year, when three marchers were stabbed by an ultra-Orthodox protester, or worse. "The pride parade has nothing to do with rights and equality it is just provocation; hurting, not taking in consideration the other people," said Mina Fenton, an Orthodox member of Jerusalem's city council who has led the fight against the parade. More than 100-thousand people will attend a counter-demonstration on the day of the march should it be allowed to go ahead, she said, and violence was certainly a possibility. Notice boards in Jerusalem were plastered with posters condemning the march and prominent rabbis issued calls to prevent it. In one, Shlomo Amar, one of Israel's two chief rabbis wrote that by ignoring religious laws prohibiting homosexuality the march "threatens the existence of the people of Israel in its land" and was more destructive than "Nebuchadnezzar and Titus," referring to two historical figures who sacked Jerusalem. This has not helped calm opposition, which now includes hardliners from abroad. Israel: Gay Oasis

06:14
We came to Israel from one of Americas most progressive and accepting cities, San Francisco. In search of common ground, we decided to look at Israel through the lens of the gay community. All we really had starting out was a BlueStar postcard telling us that gay Israelis could serve in the army, a right still not enjoyed by our fellow Americans. The question was, how does a country so wrapped up in religion and conflict exceed our relatively peaceful and secular nation in terms of gay rights. What kind of gay community has grown up in Israel in the last sixty years? And where will it lead. We found that Israels gay community has fought at least as hard as ours to secure its rights. And that even a nation surrounded by enemies can find a place for every one of its citizens to belong. Pull out from gay pride flag to Jewish gay rights group 10. Mid of Jewish demonstrators with gay rights group, holding signs 11. Pan of Jewish demonstrators STORYLINE Ultra-Orthodox Jews who gathered in New York City on Thursday to protest against a gay pride parade in Israel, were met by members from the Jewish gay community within New York, who said Jews should be allowed to express themselves no matter where they are. The Jewish leaders from the Central Rabbinical Congress called the parade an "abomination," and held signs that read, "shame on you." "As religious Jews, we are servants of God, we are loyal to out Torah and to our tradition and God has told us in his holy Torah that this is an abomination which he abhors, and certainly in his own holy land, in his palace, in his holy city. I think every fair minded person, even those who march here in the United States, would understand that is is totally inappropriate, it's a total provocation, its a total desecration," said Rabbi William Handler of Central Rabbinical Congress of Canada. New York's gay Jewish groups had a small group of demonstrators, compared to the hundreds of Orthodox Jews that showed up, but they insisted their voices still be heard. "So we're here because we don't want them, this one religious community to speak for all of us. As a Rabbi I am horrified and dismayed with what they've done with my tradition, with our tradition, and we believe that we can speak in God's name, in the name of morality and that being gay is part of God's plan," said Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum from Beth Simchat Torah Congregation in New York. Pressure from within Jerusalem resulted in the gay pride parade, planned for Friday, to be cancelled. Israeli homosexuals called off the parade under pressure from religious leaders and for security concerns, exposing deep intolerance despite an active, open gay scene in other Israeli cities. Police in Jerusalem planned to post nine-thousand officers to protect the Gay Pride march, but after errant Israeli artillery shells killed 18 Palestinian civilians in Gaza on Wednesday, triggering threats of reprisals, police asked gay organisers to scale back their gathering, and they agreed. For the past week, hundreds of ultra-Orthodox Jews have clashed nearly every night with police, burning trash bins and throwing stones while vowing to prevent the parade from going ahead. If you leave the place and go, for example, to Jerusalem or another place, it's like, ok. I think it's very hard to be open there, so it's like entering a bubble of peace for homosexuals and for LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people." 8. Various of men dancing at night club 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Guy Leitersdorf, Nightclub visitor: "It's about the vibe, about the diversity of the parties here; you could never find all these sort of parties anywhere - (inaudible) nights and pop nights. I mean, you don't need to declare yourself as a gay institution in order to actually attract gays. You won't see many gay bars in Tel Aviv or many gay restaurants or many gay flags in the street. You won't see too many. Not because Tel Aviv is so conservative or the other way around. It's because Tel Aviv is so sophisticated and so advanced. You know, when you see some two guys walking hand in hand in the street it's not an issue any more. No one will look back at you. It's totally not an issue. Israel's gay community stage annual pride parade

01:09
Drag queens, dancers and shirtless men partied through Tel Aviv in Israel on Friday as tens of thousands packed the streets for the annual gay pride parade, the largest event of its kind in the Middle East. Colourful floats with scantily dressed revellers drove through the city streets as thousands cheered, waved flags and gyrated to loud music. The city has emerged as one of the world's most gay-friendly travel destinations in recent years, in sharp contrast to the rest of the region. Tourists from all over the world partied in the Tel Aviv parade alongside Israelis. "I've been to New York Pride, I'm from Brooklyn and this is one of the best prides I've ever been to. Everybody is so nice, so welcoming," said John Marsh, from the United States. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said more than 80-thousand people took part in the event. Tel Aviv's openness to gays stands in contrast to conservative Jerusalem, just a short drive away, home to some of the holiest sites to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Gays serve openly in Israel's military and parliament and many popular artists and entertainers are gay. However, leaders of the gay community say Israel still has a long way to go in promoting equality. Officially, there is no gay marriage in Israel, primarily because there is no civil marriage of any kind. All Jewish weddings must be conducted through the Jewish rabbinate, which considers homosexuality a sin and a violation of Jewish law. But the state recognises same-sex couples who marry abroad. Our vision is to build a global news network that provides a credible source for world news, events, and trends while giving respect and honor to Christians of all major denominations — Evangelical, Orthodox, Anglican, Catholic, and Protestant. Starting with a $7,500 donation in May 1999 to launch the first radio program, Rick’s faith in God and steadfast determination has overseen the growth and development of TruNews into an internationally recognized source of credible news and information in a world where nothing seems to make sense anymore. Rick’s professional career was in media marketing and advertising sales. Throughout his early years, God’s hand silently guided him to be in employed in the latest new media. While in his early 20’s, Rick’s first media job was with a new FM radio station in the days when AM was still king. In 1980, he blazed a path as a pioneer in local cable television advertising when CNN and ESPN were new start-up channels on cable TV. As a sales manager, he launched one of the first cable advertising interconnects in the nation. He was hired in 1984 by the Christian Broadcasting Network as the first National Cable Marketing Manager for the new CBN Cable Network which later became the Family Channel. In 1995, Paul F.
