What is NATIONAL BRAND? What does NATIONAL BRAND mean? NATIONAL BRAND meaning - NATIONAL BRAND definition - NATIONAL BRAND explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ The brand name of a product that is distributed nationally under a brand name owned by the producer or distributor, as opposed to local brands (products distributed only in some areas of the country), and private label brands (products that carry the brand of the retailer rather than the producer.) National brands must compete with local and private brands. National brands are produced by, widely distributed by, and carry the name of the manufacturer. Local brands may appeal to those consumers who favor small, local producers over large national or global producers, and may be willing to pay a premium to "buy local". The private label producer can offer lower prices because they avoid the cost of marketing and advertising to create and protect the brand. In North America, large retailers such as Loblaws, Walgreens and Wal-Mart all offer private label products. On the other hand, marketing and advertising may give consumers the impression that the national brand is superior to a local- or private-branded product.

What is PRIVATE LABEL? What does PRIVATE LABEL mean? PRIVATE LABEL meaning, definition & explanation
What is PRIVATE LABEL? What does PRIVATE LABEL mean? PRIVATE LABEL meaning - PRIVATE LABEL definition - PRIVATE LABEL explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Private-label products or services, also known as "phantom brands", are typically those manufactured or provided by one company for offer under another company's brand. Private-label goods and services are available in a wide range of industries from food to cosmetics to web hosting. They are often positioned as lower-cost alternatives to regional, national or international brands, although recently some private label brands have been positioned as "premium" brands to compete with existing "name" brands. Growing market shares and increasing variety of private label consumer packaged goods is now a global phenomenon. However, private label market shares exhibit widespread diversity across international markets and product categories. Empirical research on private label products has been of substantial interest to both marketing academics and managers. Considerable work has been done on well-defined areas of private-label research such as private-label brand strategy, market performance of private-label products, competition with national brands, market structure, and buyer behavior. For example, Richelieu Foods is a private-label company producing frozen pizza, salad dressing, marinades, and condiments for other companies, including Hy-Vee, Aldi, Save-A-Lot, Sam's Club, Hannaford Brothers Co., BJ's Wholesale Club (Earth's Pride brand) and Shaw's Supermarkets (Culinary Circle brand). Another example is the Cott Corporation, which manufactures private-label beverages for supermarket chains. McBride plc is a Europe-based provider of private-label household and personal care products. The Private Label Manufacturer's Association (PLMA) in the United States categorizes private-label manufacturers into four categories: 1. Large national brand manufacturers that utilize their expertise and excess plant capacity to supply store brands. 2. Small, quality manufacturers who specialize in particular product lines and concentrate on producing store brands almost exclusively. Often these companies are owned by corporations that also produce national brands. 3. Major retailers and wholesalers that own their own manufacturing facilities and provide store-brand products for themselves. 4. Regional brand manufacturers that produce private-label products for specific markets.

What is NATION BRANDING? What does NATION BRANDING mean? NATION BRANDING meaning & explanation
What is NATION BRANDING? What does NATION BRANDING mean? NATION BRANDING meaning - NATION BRANDING definition - NATION BRANDING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Nation branding aims to measure, build and manage the reputation of countries (closely related to place branding). In the book Diplomacy in a Globalizing World: Theories and Practices, the authors define nation branding as “the application of corporate marketing concepts and techniques to countries, in the interests of enhancing their reputation in international relations.” Many nations try to make brands in order to build relationships between different actors that are not restricted to nations. It extends to public and private sectors in a nation and helps with nationalism. States also want to participate in multilateral projects. Some approaches applied, such as an increasing importance on the symbolic value of products, have led countries to emphasise their distinctive characteristics. The branding and image of a nation-state "and the successful transference of this image to its exports - is just as important as what they actually produce and sell."This is also referred to as country-of-origin effect. Nation branding is a developing field in which scholars continue their search for a unified theoretical framework. Many governments have resource dedicated to nation branding. Their aim is to improve their country's standing, as the image and reputation of a nation can dramatically influence its success in attracting tourism receipts and investment capital, in exports, in attracting a talented and creative workforce, and in its cultural and political influence in the world. Different ways that nation project their nation brand include export, foreign direct investment, and tourism. One example of exporting products is that the country Germany is known for their motor industry because famous car companies like Mercedes, Audi, and BMW are German companies. An example of foreign direct investments that help the nation brand are US companies building maquiladoras and other European countries having factories in different countries. Nation branding appears to be practiced by many countries, including the United States, Canada, France, United Kingdom (where it is officially referred to as public diplomacy), Taiwan, Malaysia, Japan, China, South Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Israel and most Western European countries. An early example of this was the Cool Britannia approach of the early days of the New Labour government (following the Britain (TM) pamphlet by Demos's Mark Leonard), though this has since been replaced by a more credible Public Diplomacy Board. There is increasing interest in the concept from poorer states on the grounds that an enhanced image might create more favorable conditions for foreign direct investment, tourism, trade and even political relations with other states. Developing nations such as Tanzania and Colombia are creating smaller nation branding programs aimed at increased overall image and with the case of Colombia, changing international perception. Nation branding is seen as a part of Sweden's public diplomacy, especially with Brand Sweden. Sweden uses two main institutions, called the Utrikesdepartementet and the Swedish Institute, to study their nation branding. They wanted to present a good image through the press and also collect different reports on Sweden’s representations abroad. Different events and campaigns were also made to promote Brand Sweden, one example being the House of Sweden which was an embassy in the US. Another campaign was the Second House of Sweden which used the internet to introduce Sweden’s embassy virtually. Researchers in Sweden also studied the Nation Brand Index (NBI) results to collect data. Nation branding can be approached in academics as a field in social sciences, political sciences, humanities, communication, marketing and international relations. Scholars such as Evan H. Potter at the University of Ottawa have conceptualized nation brands as a form of national soft power. All efforts by government (at any level) to support the nation brand - either directly or indirectly - becomes public diplomacy. Anti-globalisation proponents often claim that globalisation diminishes and threatens local diversity, but there is evidence that in order to compete against the backdrop of global cultural homogeneity, nations strive to accentuate and promote local distinctiveness as a competitive advantage.

Taking Your Cannabis Brand National
Growing a cannabis business beyond the borders of a state can be a daunting proposition. For one, marijuana is still illegal at the federal level and no one really knows how the federal government will treat a national cannabis brand. Beyond that, every state has different laws governing the sale and manufacturing of cannabis products and no two sets of regulations are alike. In this video, taken at the recent Infused Products and Extraction Symposium, Vicente Sederberg’s Joshua Kappel and O.penVape's Ralph Morgan spoke with cannabisbusinesssummit.com to share practical advice for any business looking to expand beyond their home state borders.

Jill Amen: How to Build a National Brand with a Federally Illegal Substance - Canna-Ed Day 2017
Jill Amen, Founder of House of Jane spoke to the attendees at Canna-Ed Day about How to Build a National Brand with a Federally Illegal Substance. The conference event was held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Jill had the idea to start a cannabis-infused beverage company by visiting coffee houses on a trip to Amsterdam. But you could say that the House of Jane (HOJ) literally grew out of 30+ years interest in the medicinal benefits of the cannabis-sativa plant and consequently began a breakthrough, award-winning line of beverages called Jane’s Brew™. HOJ is leading the industry by educating patients and dispensaries about the responsible, medicinal use of cannabis-infused beverages. HOJ encourages responsible medicating and asks patients to join “Jane’s Army” to take the “pledge” to consume responsibly. HOJ also requires all licensed dispensaries that wish to carry Jane’s Brew to undergo training before it is placed on their shelves. Furthermore, by integrating best practices and integrity into all aspects of its product development, manufacturing and patient marketing, HOJ has created a strict protocol for the production of Jane’s Brew. Triple-lab testing with CW Analytical assures that every batch of oil, product ingredient and final beverage are toxin-free and dosed accurately. Public Lecture Video (11.11. 2013) Nancy Snow - Japan: The Super Nation Brand
Japan is the world's third largest economy and a super nation brand. It is known best for its cuisine, hospitality, safety, popular and traditional culture and its resilience after 3/11. Public diplomacy, otherwise known as nation branding, has never been more important in post-3/11 Japan. Japan is playing a game of catch up with its recent announcement of the Japan Brand Fund "to fund and support business activities to cultivate overseas demand for Japan's attractive products and services that make full use of the unique characteristics of Japan's culture and lifestyle." Most every nation now has a public diplomacy entity to promote its unique qualities so even Cool Japan and J-Pop have a lot of global competition. The winning bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics should put everyone on notice that nation branding is a concern for every Japanese citizen, not just government ministries or businesses pushing their products and services overseas. So how does Japan manage its national image going forward? Nancy Snow will lead an interactive discussion on Japan's nation brand in the aftermath of 3/11 from Operation Tomodachi to No Nukes.

[KDI FOCUS] Golden Era of PB: Who Reaped the Fruits of Growth? (Jinkook Lee, Fellow)
[Go to related Report] https://goo.gl/X6qtKg Private brands are booming in Korea. Unlike national brands, private brand or PB products are branded with the respective retailers’ brand and are only available at their stores. And as for market size, the domestic PB market grew 2.5 fold from 2008 to 2013, marking 9.3 trillion won from 3.6 trillion won during the same period. Then, what is spurring the rapid creation and growth of PB products in Korea’s retail market? Corporate retailers have become increasingly influential in the general retail market as more and more consumers purchase their products. Accordingly, their growing presence has allowed retailers to inject themselves into the production process, thus, creating private brands. In addition, private brands have enabled retailers to secure stable retail margins through product differentiation in response to the intensifying price competition that has cut into their profits. So, have PBs increased profits? The results of an empirical analysis reveal that the shift in strategy has been a success with stores experiencing a yearly average increase of 22.3 million won in sales and 2.7 to 9 million won in profit for every 1%p increase in the share of PB sales. Then, how is it for PB manufacturers? Again, analysis results show that, with the exception of micro businesses, all establishments exhibited negative sales on an increase in the share of PB sales as PBs products drive down the sale of NBs products. Meanwhile, micro businesses experienced more gains in sales as the impact from a higher capacity utilization rate and expansion of sales channels offset the negative impact from the decline in NB sales. However, even micro businesses, who experienced an increase in sales, were unable to enhance their operating profits. This implies that even if the scale of production increases on PB sales, it does not guarantee profit. Then, how is the value-added created through PB sales distributed? With cuts to advertising, marketing and distribution costs, there is potential for increases in both the retail margins of corporate retailers and operating profits of manufacturers. This can be commonly seen in large enterprises. However, in the case of SMEs and micro businesses, operating profit declines while the retail margin increases. In fact, the increase in the retail margin is larger than that of large enterprises. If more effort and costs have been invested by corporate retailers in developing PBs in partnership with SMEs and micro businesses, the increase in the retail margin can be understood as reasonable compensation. But, the majority of PB products are slightly modified NB products, or the packaging has been merely replaced. And considering that 88% of this occurs in SMEs and micro businesses, the increase in the retail margin may be linked to the imbalance in the bargaining position between retailers and manufacturers. This imbalance may increase the possibility of unfair trade practices from retailers. Indeed, a survey found that of 309 PB suppliers, 30 had experienced such practices, which include demands for reduced prices and transferring the burden of promotional expenses and packaging costs. [Interveiw] Despite the increases in the profits of corporate retailers due to the expansion of the PB market, manufacturers have experienced no changes or even declines in their profits. This phenomenon may be owed to the imbalance in bargaining positions. Therefore, the focus must now be shifted to establishing a fair market order to promote the shared growth of both retailers and manufacturers. When investigating subcontractor trade with regards to PB manufacturers, the government must closely examine any violations of the ban on requesting management information. In addition, penalties for violations of the Act on Fair Transactions in Large Franchise and Retail Business must be reinforced to lower the possibility of unfair trade practices. Meanwhile, SME manufacturers should make active use of government support programs that are linked to overseas distribution networks to enter the rapidly expanding global PB market. This can contribute to lowering dependence on domestic retailers and enhance bargaining positions in the long-term.

What is STORE BRAND? What does STORE BRAND mean? STORE BRAND meaning, definition & explanation
What is STORE BRAND? What does STORE BRAND mean? STORE BRAND meaning - STORE BRAND definition - STORE BRAND explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Store brands are a line of products strategically branded by a retailer within a single brand identity. They bear a similarity to the concept of house brands, private label brands (PLBs) in the United States, own brands in the UK, and home brands in Australia and generic brands. They are distinct in that a store brand is managed solely by the retailer for sale in only a specific chain of store. The retailer will design the manufacturing, packaging and marketing of the goods in order to build on the relationship between the products and the store's customer base. Store-brand goods are generally cheaper than national-brand goods, because the retailer can optimize the production to suit consumer demand and reduce advertising costs. Goods sold under a store brand are subject to the same regulatory oversight as goods sold under a national brand. Consumer demand for store brands might be related to individual characteristics such as demographics and socioeconomic variables. A store brand is a way of relating to different customers. Different types of store brands can relate to a customer through the choice of branding and building a relationship with the consumer. Store brands can relate to a consumer through various characteristics such as different demographics. The store brand is the only brand in which the retailer has the full responsibility of control such as development, sourcing, warehousing, merchandising and marketing. Whereas retailers make different decisions about national brands and leave it up to the manufacturer. With a store brand it is more important for the retailer as it plays a more definite role in the achievement or failure of its own label. This information is based on data from 34 food categories at 106 major supermarket chains, which operate in the largest 50 retail markets in the U.S. (Dhar, S. K., & Hoch, S. J. 1997) Although national brands have long dominated the retail scene, retailers generally use their national brands to draw customers to their stores. Recently department stores, supermarkets, service stations, clothiers and chemists have started to increase more store brands. Studies show that consumers are buying more and more store brands and don’t plan on returning to national brands anytime soon. (Kotler et al. 2013) Store brands are generally cheaper than national brands, which, with consumers becoming more price-conscious and less brand conscious, has increased store brand sales. (Kotler st al. 2013) Some marketers have predicted that store brands will eventually knock out all the strongest national brands.( Kotler et al. 2013) Store brands have a tendency to generate higher margins than national brands. Store brands have previously been known as low-price and low quality brands, but now they are currently positioned as value brands and brands with the aim to have the quality equivalent to manufacturer brands, but with lower prices. Retailers in the USA and Europe have made huge investments to launch store brands with the main object of securing significant financial benefits. Retailers have developed store brands in almost every product category and their economic value is constantly increasing. Store image, store loyalty and store satisfaction have a positive impact on the acceptance of store brand extensions. Sometimes the retailer’s brand image depends on the images that the store brands set. Although the store brands have positive impacts on the retailers image. “Retailers can find a rationale for investing in their store brand range in order to differentiate themselves from their competitors.”( Kremer, F., & Viot, C. 2012). The retailers store brand image should relate to their own store brand and the price image of the store brand is positively related to the retailer price image. The relationship between store brand loyalty and store loyalty still remains unknown. Research suggests a non-monotonic relationship between store brand loyalty and store loyalty, positive up to a certain store brand loyalty level, after which it becomes negative. Current arguments recommend this relationship may relate to the competitive positioning of store brands, especially their price-quality positioning. .....
