5 Of The Oldest Companies In The World!
So with age comes experience and trust, If a company has been trading for decades they are doing something right. But how old are the oldest companies in the world? 100 years, 200 years or maybe even older? Well in this list I'll be showing you 5 of the oldest companies in the world. ------------------------------------------------------- Vlog Channel: http://www.youtube.com/more5 Twitter: https://twitter.com/OfficialAll5 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sam_all5 Website: http://www.All5.me ------------------------------------------------------- 5) Beretta Yes, the company that makes guns is one of the oldest companies in existence today. Gardone in Italy was well known for its iron works during the middle ages. This is where Mastro Bartolomeo Beretta lived. He started the Baretta company all the way back in 1526 that's 491 years ago. And to this day the company is still controlled and owned by his direct descendants. 4) Rathbornes Rathbornes is an Irish company from Dublin that make candles. Founded all the way back in 1488, that's 529 years ago. Since then its had its ups and downs, from being the supplier of all street lightings in Dublin, to losing that contract when electricity took over. Rathbornes then started supplying Churches in Ireland with candles, which kept the company in business. Today the company isn't run by the Rathborne family anymore. Mainly because they have all died out but any long lost relatives have an open invite to visit the company at any time. The financial director Vincent Brady says the future of the company looks good. And he is confident they will be around for another 500 years. 3) Sean's Bar Another Irish business that's very old. Sean's bar is a pub in Athlone, Ireland. And believe it or not, the pub was founded in the year 900 that's 1,117 years ago. Since it started, it's had many different owners. In fact, Sean's bar still holds records of every owner. Interestingly one owner back in the 1980's was singer Boy George. It goes without saying this pub is by far the oldest pub in existence. 2) St. Peter's Stiftskeller From the oldest pub, to the oldest restaurant still operating today. St. Peter's Stiftskeller is a restaurant from Salzburg, Austria. It first opened doors all the way back in the year 803, that's 1,214 years ago. It's a prestigious restaurant, and it's even said names such as Mozart and Christopher Columbus have dined there. In fact, it's so prestigious, its menu doesn't even have the prices listed. After all, if you need to know the price of a meal, then you're not rich enough to dine in such a location. 1) Kongō Gumi The oldest company in the world comes from Japan. It's a construction company called Kongō Gumi. It was founded all the way back in the year 578, that's 1,439 years ago. The company is responsible for building numerous temples in Japan and has been owned by the same family for generations. However in 2006, after 1,428 years, the Kongō family lost control of the company. It's still in operation today but under the umbrella of a larger construction company. However, members of the Kongō family to this day still work as carpenters.

One of the World's Oldest Original Tractors (1904), Desmodromic Drive Valve
This tractor dates sometime from 1904. The hand lever operated clutch engages a one wheel drive forward using the right wheel. There is a left foot pedal to engage an optional 2nd wheel posi drive (to drive both the left & right wheels in slippery conditions like snow, rain, mud, etc.). To reverse; the hand lever clutch is disengaged. The left foot pedal is pressed down & the right foot pedal is pressed down to engage the band clutch. The tractor can only be driven in reverse by the left wheel. The tractor was built from an early “build yourself a tractor” kit supplied by a manufacturer in Loudonville, Ohio. This would be the predecessor of the C. Hufer & Company which later changed names to the Victor Traction Gear Company, both of Loudonville, Ohio. This company furnished engines, clutches, running gear, ect. and then whoever bought the pieces put them together. There was a small nickle-plated brass name tag nailed onto the tractor that read “Sexauer Bros. – Sulphur Springs, O.” The Sexauer Bros. ran a carriage works in Sulphur Springs from 1862 to the early 1900’s. They were also labeled as “Builders”. This explains the carriage/buggy springs & all the blacksmith work used on the tractor. It’s basically part tractor, part horseless carriage/automobile buggy. This tractor was used for various jobs around the farm by belting up to the engine & powering different machinery. It was later used to power a buzz saw on the Rietschlin farm on German Road in West Liberty (Crestline), Ohio (which is about 10 miles from Sulphur Springs, Ohio). The Rietschlin’s buzz saw was usually kept in the woods & the tractor was driven to the buzz saws location, used, and then driven home at the end of the day. The frame of the buzz saw had arms that attached & pinned to hinges on the front of the tractor to keep it & the tractor in good alignment when the saw was belted up to the engine. Because the buzz saw was kept outside, most of its wood was rotted & gone but there was enough of it left with its hardware to get basic measurements to eventually restore it. We got the tractor from Leonard Rietschlin in 1979. Leonard said it had belonged to his great uncle who remembered running along beside it as a kid as it was driven back to the woods to buzz wood. He said he wasn’t old enough to help & that he would have been no older than 10 at the time which would put the date at 1910 or earlier. Later when the tractor was no longer being used, it was stored for years in an old chicken coop on the Rietschlin farm. Leonard Rietschlin went into service during World War 2 & he said he remembered playing on the tractor in the chicken coop as a kid. The engine has a large bore for its size & is probably around 5hp. It has a lightweight (thin cast) piston & a counterbalanced crankshaft. The engine is stamped serial number #24 of an unknown number produced. The engine is one of the earliest existing 4-stroke engines using a desmodromic valve gear. A desmodromic valve is a reciprocating engine valve that is positively closed by a cam/leverage system, rather than just relying on a conventional return spring to close the valve. Ducati motorcycle engines also use a type of desmo driven valve. The engines carburetor uses cones & angles to control air flow. It has rings of coiled wire inside of it to increase the surface area & help vaporize the fuel. The throttle is controlled by unscrewing the top of the carburetor. This opens the air intake holes along the sides of it. Since the fuel needle valve is centered in the top of the carburetor, it also lifts up with it when the throttle is increased, increasing the fuel with the air. For whatever reason, this tractors steering is backwards. To turn the tractor left you would need to turn the steering wheel right. The main frame of the tractor is mostly wood but there is an iron frame that bolts up underneath the middle section of the tractor to better support the weight of the engine. Some of the drive shafts, etc. have bolt on bearing blocks but other shafts have been babbited into the wood. This tractor is all original, all its chains are original, its mag & spark plug, fuel & water tanks, the red paint of the tractor frame & whitish-silver color of the engine, etc. is all original. This tractor uses a rare Goodson Electric Ignition Company magneto & igniter “spark” plug. This spark plug is basically an electric solenoid tripped low tension igniter that screws into the engine. The impulse from the Goodson mag is fed into the Goodson spark plug, through its coils & across its closed points inside the engine which are then opened by the solenoid coils, creating a low tension spark. The mag & spark plug on this engine have been reliable & the engine has always run great with them. This tractor has been shown at the 2001 Portland, Indiana engine show & the Coolspring engine show 2016. For more information go to: http://rowland24.20megsfree.com

World's First Car!
I got to drive the world's first car (replica), patented by Benz in 1886 Check out the series on new safety features: http://ve42.co/MB This video is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, who invited me to come to Stuttgart to see their latest cars, crash test facilities and experience the innovations they are working on. Physics is something that is directly applicable to car safety. Cars go fast, but they also sometimes collide with obstacles, which brings them to a sudden stop, subjecting the car and occupants to very high accelerations, which can cause injury or death. So the major idea to improve car safety is to reduce these accelerations and there are a number of ways to do this: Passive safety: Seat belts: keep passengers in the vehicle, preventing them from continuing with constant velocity, flying through the windshield and suffering a worse deceleration when they make contact with the road. Crumple zones: increase the distance over which deceleration occurs, thereby reducing peak magnitude of deceleration. Air bags: increase the distance over which the head decelerates, again reducing peak magnitude of deceleration of the head. Active Safety: Anti-lock braking system: rather than 'locking' the wheels as can happen if you slam on the brakes with a traditional braking system leading to the tires skidding across the road, ABS attempts to control the amount of braking so that the tires always roll with static friction in contact with the road. This increases the backward frictional force that can be applied to the tires, again increasing the distance over which deceleration occurs, and it gives the driver an opportunity to steer to avoid the collision (hence why it's referred to as an active safety system). Special thanks to Mercedes for having me visit facilities in Stuttgart. I had a lot of fun making these videos so please do check out the series on Mercedes Benz's channel: http://ve42.co/MB Filmed by Simon Schneider Edited by Hoplite Creative and Trevor Carlee

9 Most Mysterious Ancient Artifacts
The Most Mysterious Ancient Artifacts. Scientists uncover mysterious artifacts all the time. These historical ancient artifacts are very mysterious. Subscribe to World5List http://goo.gl/cpJSA6 Find us on... -- http://www.boredbadger.com -- http://www.facebook.com/world5list Sometimes, scientists stumble upon an artifact that they can’t quite make sense of. Either it doesn’t fit in with the time period, or they can’t figure out what in the world it is or was used for, thus making it one of many mysterious ancient artifacts. Antikythera Mechanism This mysterious artifact almost looks like something from the future, but it’s actually at least 2,000 years old. This machine of sorts was found in the remains of a sunken Greek cargo ship. It’s made of bronze and contains an intricate system of 30 hand-cut gears. Ancient Screw As far as we know, screws, or at least the use of screw threads, date back to as early as 400 AD, but they may have been around long before humans were known to exist. Ancient Hammer Perhaps the alien that had a screw loose also lost his hammer somewhere along the line because scientists found one in an ancient rock in Texas. Like the screw, in order for the rock to form around the hammer in the manner it did, the hammer had to have existed before the rock. Three-Pronged Plug We move on from handy ancient people to those with electricity, or at least electrical plugs, before electricity was even a thing. In 1998 while hiking somewhere in the middle of nowhere in North America, John J Williams saw an electrical plug sticking out of the ground. Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus While the city of Thonis-Heracleion was mentioned in various ancient texts, people in the modern era assumed it was a mythological city because no one knew where in the world it was...that’s because it was hiding underwater. The Genetic Disc The Genetic Disc is one of the most-challenged ancient finds with many thinking it’s a hoax, but we’ll let you be the judge. This 27-centimeter, little-over-two-pound lydite disc was allegedly found by Professor Jamie Gutierrez somewhere in Colombia. That’s all that’s known about its past. Ancient Nampa Figurine While workers were drilling for water in 1889 in Nampa, Idaho, they found a tiny little clay figurine. While finding artifacts when digging into the ground isn’t anything unusual, the depth at which it was found is quite odd. Shroud of Turin Nothing gets people more excited than historical artifacts that claim to be from around the time of Jesus, especially when the artifact allegedly belonged to the son of God. The Stonehenge One of the world’s most debated mysteries is that of the Stonehenge monument, which is located in Wiltshire, England. There you have it - some of the most mysterious ancient artifacts ever discovered. Are some of these mysterious artifacts hoaxes or true mysteries? Did an advanced ancient civilization exist, or are aliens to blame? What are your theories? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Top 5 Oldest Logos in the World
Even before global marketing campaigns, television commercials, and social media, a company’s logo has been important. Over time, as businesses and consumers have changed, most major companies have also changed their logos dramatically. Still, some logos have had incredible staying power and have lasted for decades or even hundreds of years. The world’s oldest logos have all retained some core visual element, although several have been noticeably altered. Stella Artois, for example, is recognized by several details of its icon. The horn and the star resting above the label are the features continually represented in the brand’s history. Sub @ www.youtube.com/WhatABrand Like @ www.facebook.com/KARAStudios

Oldest Watch in the World (Melanchthon's Watch)
The history of watches began in 16th century Europe, where watches evolved from portable spring-driven clocks, which first appeared in the 15th century. The watch which developed from the 16th century to the mid 20th century was a mechanical device, powered by winding a mainspring which turned gears and then moved the hands, and kept time with a rotating balance wheel. One account of the origin of the word "watch" is that it came from the Old English word woecce which meant "watchman", because it was used by town watchmen to keep track of their shifts. Another says that the term came from 17th century sailors, who used the new mechanisms to time the length of their shipboard watches (duty shifts). The first timepieces to be worn, made in the 16th century beginning in the German cities of Nuremberg and Augsburg, were transitional in size between clocks and watches. Portable timepieces were made possible by the invention of the mainspring in the early 15th century. Nuremberg clockmaker Peter Henlein (or Henle or Hele) (1485-1542) is often credited as the inventor of the watch. He was one of the first German craftsman who made "clock-watches" (taschenuhr), ornamental timepieces worn as pendants, which were the first timepieces to be worn on the body. His fame is based on a passage by Johann Cochläus in 1511. Peter Hele, still a young man, fashions works which even the most learned mathematicians admire. He shapes many-wheeled clocks out of small bits of iron, which run and chime the hours without weights for forty hours, whether carried at the breast or in a handbag However, other German clockmakers were creating miniature timepieces during this period, and there is no evidence Henlein was the first. These 'clock-watches' were fastened to clothing or worn on a chain around the neck. They were heavy drum-shaped cylindrical brass boxes several inches in diameter, engraved and ornamented. They had only an hour hand. The face was not covered with glass, but usually had a hinged brass cover, often decoratively pierced with grillwork so the time could be read without opening. The movement was made of iron or steel and held together with tapered pins and wedges, until screws began to be used after 1550. Many of the movements included striking or alarm mechanisms. They usually had to be wound twice a day. The shape later evolved into a rounded form; these were later called Nuremberg eggs. Still later in the century there was a trend for unusually-shaped watches, and clock-watches shaped like books, animals, fruit, stars, flowers, insects, crosses, and even skulls (Death's head watches) were made. These early clock-watches were not worn to tell the time. The accuracy of their verge and foliot movements was so poor, with errors of perhaps several hours per day, that they were practically useless. They were made as jewelry and novelties for the nobility, valued for their fine ornamentation, unusual shape, or intriguing mechanism, and accurate timekeeping was of very minor importance. Spherical Table Watch (Melanchthon's Watch) The oldest mechanical watch ever found, that was once owned by Philip Melanchthon (1530). This is the earliest dated watch known. It is engraved on the bottom: "PHIL[IP]. MELA[NCHTHON]. GOTT. ALEIN. DIE. EHR[E]. 1530" (Philip Melanchthon, to God alone the glory, 1530). There are very few watches existing today that predate 1550; only two dated examples are known--this one from 1530 and another from 1548. There is no watchmaker's mark, although Nuremberg is considered the birthplace of spherical watches (called "Nuremberg Eggs"). The perforations in the case permitted one to see the time without opening the watch. This watch was commissioned by the great German reformer and humanist Philip Melanchthon (1497-1560). Melanchthon (born Philipp Schwartzerdt; 16 February 1497 – 19 April 1560) was a German Lutheran reformer, collaborator with Martin Luther, the first systematic theologian of the Protestant Reformation, intellectual leader of the Lutheran Reformation, and an influential designer of educational systems. He stands next to Luther and John Calvin as a reformer, theologian, and molder of Protestantism. After Luther himself, he is the primary founder of Lutheranism. J.C. Newman Cigar Company - History, Brands, and Culture of America's Oldest Cigar Manufacturer
In 1895, Julius Caeser Newman started a company with $50 for tobacco, a handmade cigar table and one order from the family grocer. He saw the future for the company in producing premium cigars, and a move to America’s “Cigar City”, in Tampa, FL. What started as humble beginnings is now America’s oldest family-owned cigar manufacturer, a staple of the historic Ybor City where so many cigar companies established their roots. Surviving now three generations from JC’s son Stanford to his grandchildren, Eric and Bobby Newman, the legacy and future of the JC Newman Cigar Company remains bright. Cigars are to Tampa what cars are to Detroit, what wine is to Napa Valley. So, the Newman’s, and so many of the people that still operate the historic El Reloj factory, take great pride in the product of their efforts. The brand portfolio JC Newman boasts is among the best and well-known cigars in the industry, sold in over 80 countries. Stanford Newman, in an effort to honor the company’s 100th anniversary, collaborated with industry legend, Carlos Fuente, Sr., to introduce the Diamond Crown brand. Handmade in the Dominican Republic by the world-renowned Arturo Fuente family, Diamond Crown cigars are rolled by the very best Master Rollers in Tabacalera A. Fuente with exceptional aged tobacco and undergo rigid quality standards before public release. Since its launch, the Diamond Crown family has expanded to include, Julius Caesar, Maximus and Black Diamond. Cuesta-Rey is one of the most popular premium cigars in the world, enjoyed by cigar smokers in 61 countries on six continents. JC Newman’s Nicaraguan brands, made in the Newman’s Estelí factory, PENSA, include Brick House, currently and consistently rated as one of the top value premium cigars by Cigar Aficionado, earning anywhere from a 92 rating and up. Perla Del Mar and El Baton continue the tradition of producing premium Nicaraguan cigars for a great price. Quorum is the best-selling handmade bundle cigar in the world. And the list goes on… Tampa's celebrated heritage as the Fine Cigar Capital of the World lives on at J.C. Newman Cigar Company and the people who make it run. America's oldest family-owned premium cigar makers, and the last operating cigar factory in Cigar City, are committed to continuing a legacy of fine cigars and a family approach to doing business.

Buick, formally the Buick Motor Division, is an upscale automobile brand of the American manufacturer General Motors. For much of its existence in the North American market, Buick has been marketed as a premium automobile brand, selling luxury vehicles positioned above GM's mainstream brands, e.g. Chevrolet, while below the flagship luxury Cadillac division. Buick retains the distinction of being the oldest active American marque of automobile, and the original Buick Motor Company was a cornerstone of the establishment of General Motors in 1908. Buick, founded in 1899 in Jackson, Michigan, is one of the oldest automobile brands in the world and the oldest in America. Autocar, originally an automobile maker but currently strictly a heavy truck maker, and Oldsmobile, a now defunct early auto maker owned by GM, were both founded in 1897. Studebaker was founded in 1852, but didn't begin producing automobiles until 1902; Ford produced his first car in 1896 but did not start the Ford Motor Co. until 1903, and during the period in between was involved with other automobile manufacturers such as Cadillac. It was founded by David Dunbar Buick as the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, an internal combustion engine manufacturer. Before the establishment of General Motors, GM founder William C. Durant served as Buick's general manager, while his friend Louis Chevrolet worked as a racing driver for Buick and later learned automotive design working there. Buick's Standard Six and their Master Six were dramatically restyled for 1928. They were given plain crown fenders, bullet-type headlights, sculpted cowl, hood and radiator contours and a reconfigured chassis which allowed the bodies to be built lower. Engineering advances also accompanied the 1928 models, with such improvements as an H-pattern shifter, hydraulic shock absorbers and a revised valve design. Buick used the Master Six name beginning in the mid-1920s. The 1925 Buick used the same engine used in the 24-Six of 1924. Several new body styles became available during this year. The Standard Six engine produced 50 horsepower while the Master Six was fitted with a 70 horsepower engine. The Standard Six bodystyles rested on a wheelbase that measured 114.3-inches while the Master Six had a 120- or 128-inch platform. The name Master Six would continue through 1928. By 1928, the horsepower in the Standard Six was rated at 63 horsepower while the Master Six had 77 horsepower. This Model 47-S Deluxe is a four door sedan that seats six adults. The new bullet headlamps sit on top of the curved fenders. The wood spoke artillery wheels and running board are in excellent condition. Note that the steering wheel is made of wood, and the instrument cluster is centered on the dash as was the custom back then. Spacious room in the back seat with plenty of window glass present. The rear bumper is split to allow a centered taillight within the rear mounted spare tire that sits before the gas tank. Note also the padded roof and suicide doors. Restored very nicely in two-tone blue and black, this Buick shows itself as the large luxury brand it had become in 1928. Thanks very much for viewing this 1928 Buick Model 47-S sedan.

The Oldest McDonald's in the World | Downey, CA
