Every High School Principal Should Say This

If every high school principal said this, it would change students' lives and would change America. So what exactly should every high school principal say? Dennis Prager explains. For Students: http://l.prageru.com/29SgPaX JOIN our Educators Network! http://l.prageru.com/2c8vsff Script: If every high school principal gave the following speech, America would be a much better place. To the students and faculty of our high school: I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people. I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if you are black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, European, Latin American or Asian, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships. The only identity this school will recognize is your individual identity—your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will recognize is American. This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans. If you wish to affirm here an ethnic or racial identity—or a national identity other than American —you will have to attend another school. This includes after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on identities such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in our society. Those clubs cultivate narcissism—an unhealthy preoccupation with the self—while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. This school’s clubs will be based on interests and passions—clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those based on ethnicity, race or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you. Second, I do not care whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America’s citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. Furthermore, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the job market, if you leave this school without excellent English-language skills. We will learn other languages here—it’s deplorable that most Americans only speak English—but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not the right school for you. Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning’s elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. There will be a dress code at this school. And you will address all teachers by their title, not by their first name. They are your teachers, not your pals. Silent. Originally a public domain film from the Library of Congress Prelinger Archives, slightly cropped to remove uneven edges, with the aspect ratio corrected, and one-pass brightness-contrast-color correction & mild video noise reduction applied. The film was silent. I have added music from YouTube's library. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_generator Wikipedia license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ ...Before the connection between magnetism and electricity was discovered, electrostatic generators were invented that used electrostatic principles. These generated very high voltages and low currents. They operated by using moving electrically charged belts, plates and disks to carry charge to a high potential electrode... In 1827, Hungarian Anyos Jedlik started experimenting with electromagnetic rotating devices which he called electromagnetic self-rotors. In the prototype of the single-pole electric starter (finished between 1852 and 1854) both the stationary and the revolving parts were electromagnetic. He formulated the concept of the dynamo at least 6 years before Siemens and Wheatstone but didn't patent it as he thought he wasn't the first to realize this. In essence the concept is that instead of permanent magnets, two electromagnets opposite to each other induce the magnetic field around the rotor. It was also the discovery of the principle of self-excitation... In the years of 1831--1832, Michael Faraday discovered the operating principle of electromagnetic generators. The principle, later called Faraday's law, is that an electromotive force is generated in an electrical conductor that encircles a varying magnetic flux. He also built the first electromagnetic generator, called the Faraday disk, a type of homopolar generator, using a copper disc rotating between the poles of a horseshoe magnet. It produced a small DC voltage. This design was inefficient due to self-cancelling counterflows of current in regions not under the influence of the magnetic field... The dynamo was the first electrical generator capable of delivering power for industry. The dynamo uses electromagnetic principles to convert mechanical rotation into pulsed DC through the use of a commutator. The first dynamo was built by Hippolyte Pixii in 1832. Through a series of accidental discoveries, the dynamo became the source of many later inventions, including the DC electric motor, the AC alternator, the AC synchronous motor, and the rotary converter. A dynamo machine consists of a stationary structure, which provides a constant magnetic field, and a set of rotating windings which turn within that field. On small machines the constant magnetic field may be provided by one or more permanent magnets; larger machines have the constant magnetic field provided by one or more electromagnets, which are usually called field coils. Large power generation dynamos are now rarely seen due to the now nearly universal use of alternating current for power distribution and solid state electronic AC to DC power conversion. But before the principles of AC were discovered, very large direct-current dynamos were the only means of power generation and distribution. Now power generation dynamos are mostly a curiosity... Without a commutator, a dynamo becomes an alternator, which is a synchronous singly fed generator. When used to feed an electric power grid, an alternator must always operate at a constant speed that is precisely synchronized to the electrical frequency of the power grid. A DC generator can operate at any speed within mechanical limits, but always outputs direct current...

How I Study for Medical School || General Principles, Strategies, Tips, etc

18:02
THIS ONE GOES OUT TO YOU!!!!! I know several of you will be starting school soon, so I hope this video helps you find new motivations and perspectives for the upcoming year! Enjoy and relish in the struggle and grind! Let's keep going through this journey together. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. I understand that this was a very general and non-specific video. However, it really does encapsulate how I approach all of my classes in medical school and has helped me become successful. I will be uploading a follow up video on the specifics about how I study on a day-to-day basis for medical school. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Summary: 1. Keep your expectations low. 2. Be excited to study. Have a good perspective. 3. Have a burning purpose. 4. Be adaptable. 5. Compare yourself with others. 6. Prioritize your efforts. Know what to stress over. 7. Learn more by studying less. Take 24 hours away from studying. 8. Be selfish. You can’t teach others, if you’re not solid with the material first. 9. Split your study sessions throughout your day. 10. Take full responsibility of your grades. Whether you fail or succeed, it is all your fault. 11. Cherish your mistakes. Transform your weaknesses into strengths. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My name is Sean, and I am the most under-qualified and non-traditional student in medical school. I decided to start my own channel in order to document my evolution throughout school and life in general. Hope you enjoy the content.

Effective School Principles launch, Wednesday February 10th, 2015

49:43
The Effective School Principles is an initiative of the United Nations Children's Fund ,UNCIEF, an organization that offers humanitarian and developmental assistance to children and mothers in developing countries. Implemented in other Caribbean countries the ESP is an extension of the Child Friendly School Initiative implemented in many of the Primary schools across the country. This initiative has a vision to foster and develop school climates where all students are engaged, supported and enjoy positive relationships with their peers and teachers, whilst utilizing available opportunities to prepare for future careers. this requires that every student to be actively involved in the process of learning and therefore there is no doubt that it is a privilege that this school, our school was chosen as the pilot school as we already had many of the features necessary for its implementation. We were honoured to have with us representatives from UNCIEF, Chief Education Officer and her deputy, other officials from Ministry of Education and other specially invited guests, to witness the launch of this initiative.

United World Academy, a school based on spiritual principles. Video by Jeff Bibler

05:50
This is a six minute video outlining Jeff Bibler's vision for a school based on spiritual principles. The school will have three interrelated components: a period of meditation to begin each school day; a student-centered curriculum that emphasizes cooperative learning and critical thinking skills; and service projects where students choose a community or organization to serve and create a plan to carry out their service. The short period of meditation to begin each school day will set the tone for the day. Students do not need to be members of a particular church or faith to join this school, but they should know that this will not be an optional part of their school day. Introspection, goal setting, and spiritual study of the world's major religions will also be an important part of every school day. The core curriculum of math, science, language arts, and social studies will be student-centered and organized in such a way that they can work through the curriculum at their own pace. Important critical thinking and foundational study skills will be taught at the beginning of the school year so that students have the academic tools necessary to master the core curriculum and move through it effectively. Students will also decide on various service projects where they devise a plan to serve a community around them.
