Why designers should create & sell products [Episode 09]

06:10
For the most part of my career, I thought the only way designers can make a living is by selling design services: freelancing or working for someone else. Few years ago I finally discovered that there is another way: create a product once, and sell if forever. And while selling your time is limited (since we only have 24 hours a day), you can sell a product unlimited amount of times. Of coures it's not as easy as it sounds (nothing is), but many designers today are making some part of their income or maybe all of it by selling products: themes, fonts, icons, apps ect.. Me and my partners have created an online class to help freelancers with the business side of things and this is our product: http://thenuschool.com/the-pricing-class If you have also created products please share them in the comments - Get new videos weekly to your inbox: http://www.fluxvlog.com - Hit me up to Twitter: http://twitter.com/ransegall - Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ransegall/

Designing a Product for Amazon FBA

05:57
Episode 2 Get the complete show notes at: https://www.enterchina.co/design-consideration-amazon-fba-private-label-products What's in this episode? Should I hire a designer or use the factory for design? (00:30) It depends where you are in your Amazon in your journey (00:42) If it's your first product it's not a great idea to jump into designing a new idea (00:49) If your selecting an item the factory already has in stock the best option is to just change some small aspect - like color. (01:04) Once you have designs then the next step is finding a factory that will be able to make those changes. (01:26) How to have good communications with Chinese factories about your design needs? (01:36) It can be difficult to work with a factory as a new client. (02:00) The factory will want to see the background on you and money up front. (02:17) Work with a factory on an OEM (off the shelf) product and then approach them about your own design. (02:30) Sourcing companies can make it a lot easier when making your first product from scratch. (02:49) Is it as easy as slapping a label on an OEM product or do we need to change the design? (03:03) When contacting factories have an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) and MEA (Manufacturing Exclusivity Agreement) ready. (03:36) Bring bullet points and a very clear description of your product. (o4:13) Don't just jump in the first email with all the details. Answer their questions first. 7 More Steps to Designing Your Online Ecommerce Store Website

In this video I show you 7 steps to designing your eCommerce store to make you money! Get Your Free Online Store Success Pack Here: http://www.effectiveecommerce.com/ESstarting Steps: 1. About Us Page 2. Contact Us Page 3. FAQ Page 4. Category Pages 5. Avoid product overload 6. Ask People 7. Product Pages Affilates Links (If you use these to start your online store I will help you set it up): Shopify- http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/shopify Volusion-http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/volusion BigCommerce-http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/bigcomm... Notes read full article at http://www.effectiveecommerce.com/7-more-steps-to-designing-your-online-ecommerce-store-website/ We share secrets and tips on how you can start your online business and also grow your e-commerce business. We also help you to gain financial freedom by making money from an e-commerce business over a short period or making extra cash from an e-commerce business. In this article, we will divulge tips on how you can design your e-commerce site so it can be efficient in making money for you so you can have more financial freedom. We will also discuss the nitty-gritty of design for optimal success. Here are seven simple steps to follow in creating your e-commerce store; 1. About Us page This page is very crucial to the success of the online store, and a lot of business owners fail to draw attention to their site because of their About Us page. It should not be a page which contains a few texts about the products that the e-commerce owner sells in a boring manner. The page should include a picture at least of the owner of the brand to give it a personal touch. People tend to prefer brands that connect with them and it make it easier for them to want to spend more time on the site. A video is more preferred on an e-commerce site about us page of about one to two minutes to engage the prospective clients so they can be more comfortable giving you their money. The video can contain any necessary information about the site and how you do your business in a friendly manner. This may help the prospective client to connect with you as customers prefer to purchase items from a humanly brand and not just any company. 2. Contact Us This page is also crucial and should be strategically placed so that people can find it easy to communicate with you. It is typically situated at the bottom of the page and should contain all contact information such as an email, a phone number and an office address if you have one. The phone number should be displayed prominently in the header and your customer support should be active to take all calls and resolve customer complaints. This will build the trust between the store and the customers. You can also improvise by adding features such as a live chat box to make it easy for customers to contact you. 3. FAQ page Without an FAQ page, you may have to answer simple questions on the phone which will take up valuable time for other pressing matters. Some customers may be too impatient to call and ask and may go to another site that has the answers to their questions. It is much better to create a page dedicated to answering the questions that might be frequently asked by customers. 4. Category pages Some category pages are not easy to navigate, and this can discourage the customers from making a purchase. Ensure that you design the category page so that the clients can be directed to where they can quickly find the items they need. 5. Avoid product overload Your products should be well arranged and not scattered all over the place so that customers will not be confused about what they want to get. A simple layout is preferable and It should be very easy for customers for select their preferred product without being coerced into choosing from so many options. 6. Ask people Run a survey and find out how people feel about your store. It could be family and friends or even random people on the street or the internet. It is, however, advisable to ask people who are your target audience what they think about your store and you can use the information to better the store. 7. Product pages Your page for products should have a unique description to encourage people to buy the product. Also, your site will not rank high on Google if you have the same boring descriptions as other sites. Put up all the information on the product on one page instead of having customers move from one page to another to see details. These tips can help you remain ahead of the marketing trends and make money from your e-commerce store.

7 Steps to Designing Your Online Ecommerce Store Website

09:32
Get Your Free Online Store Success Pack Here: http://www.effectiveecommerce.com/ESstarting 7 Steps to Designing Your Store's Website: 1. Dont Make Me Think 2. Look at Your Compeitors Site 3. Go to Major Websites Your Customer Likely Shops From 4. Make it Personal 5. Just Get Something Up and Iterate 6. Outource it 7. Increase conversions don’t look pretty Affilates Links (If you use these to start your online store I will help you set it up): Shopify- http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/shopify Volusion-http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/volusion BigCommerce-http://EffectiveEcommerce.com/bigcomm... Notes read full article at http://www.effectiveecommerce.com/7-steps-to-designing-your-online-ecommerce-store-website/ Thank goodness that the world wide web is already filled with beautiful and informative websites, so that you can build an ecommerce website devoted to sales. Effective e-commerce guru Travis Marziani shares his experience designing websites that maximize conversion rates. Follow the steps below when you design your ecommerce website to optimize online revenues. 1. Don't Make Me Think Don't make the user think, by making site navigation as a simple and intuitive as possible. Research shows that once online visitors have to think about site navigation, they jumpstart the cognitive part of their brain. They start thinking about whether they really need a product, which is a tougher sell than an impulse buy. Make sure that a non tech savvy person can find their way around your website. Travis encourages you to use the "Mom test." Let your mother be the test by attempting to make an unassisted purchase from your website. One common mistake is not putting the shopping cart above the fold, ie: near the top of the page. If a customer cannot effortlessly find the checkout page, they are more likely to leave your website. 2. Look at Your Competitors Websites If you are starting out, you may not have the budget for a lot of market research. Check out big retailers and mimic their well researched websites. Successful online retailers such as Amazon and Walmart have spent fortunes testing the most effective color combinations and field locations to boost sales. You might as well profit from their experience imitating the look and feel of their websites. 3. Review Websites Your Demographic Buys From It pays to do a little market research of your own. Teenagers, sports enthusiasts, Moms all have their own aesthetic comfort zone that may differ from your own. Take the time to analyze popular websites that your target audience typically visit, and tailor your own site to match. 4. Make It Personal Customers are more likely to buy from your website rather than a giant well established ecommerce site, if they like, trust or care for you as an individual. You should share your personal values or establish yourself as an expert in your field. It is imperative to set up an "About Us Page," including a photo or video and a phone number so that customers can get to know you. 5. Just Get It Up and Iterate Start making your online presence today! Don't worry if your first website isn't perfect. It is more important to start somewhere. The you can tweak and improve according to user feedback, "iterate" in tech speak. This is Travis's number one tip! Start designing your ecommerce website right away, and see what happens. 6. Outsource Even though you may capable of anything, you can't be an expert in everything. Don't be afraid to outsource, the design or some technical aspects of your website if your talent lies more in marketing and sales. Many websites, such as Upwork and 99Design, have talented designers that can speed along the design process. 7. Increase Conversions, Don't Look Pretty The undisputed goal of an ecommerce website is to make conversions, to turn visitors into customers. Websites that are beautiful aren't necessarily the ones that inspire sales. Make sure that your website follows the previous tips about ease of use and likeability first. If it also has graphics that knock your socks off, great. The most important aspect of website design is to encourages sales. Following these 7 steps will get your on your way to effectively designing your online ecommerce website. Remember to keep it simple, effective and personal, do a little market research, and don't be afraid to outsource if needed. Finally, just start getting your website up and running today!

Zeplin Demo: Organizing a Project (for Designers) (Video)

02:10
Projects in Zeplin can start to get messy and unorganized as you import more and more design mockups. It's a good idea for you or a teammate to keep them organized by creating rows. You can set the title of each row that you create and you can also add a row description to add even more information. Along with rows, you will also be able to create tags in Zeplin. Tags are a great way to quickly sort your design mockups with the click of a button. You can create as many tags as you wish, but be sure to keep them simple and organized. Having too many tags may actually make it harder to sort your mockups. Be sure to talk with your developer(s) or teammates to see what organization works best for you. Rapid Prototyping 1 of 3: Sketching & Paper Prototyping

Mariam Shaikh and Melissa Powel talk about sketching and paper prototyping. Have you ever struggled with how to get from an idea to a high fidelity prototype? Every design has to start somewhere and even at Google we often start with low fidelity prototyping options such as sketching and paper prototyping. After all, the fidelity of your prototype should match the fidelity of your idea, so stop worrying and start sketching. Zeplin offers many advantages to development teams and has helped 1000s+ of teams become more efficient. Withing the mockup details page you will be able to leave notes for your teammates. You can also color code the notes based on your team's workflow. Zeplin also allows you to add colors and fonts to a style guide, copy content that's selected, view the dimensions (based on your project type), name and write a description for each individual mockup, and change a grid size based on your development needs. Recently the Zeplin team added the feature of showing the source file. This allows you to click on the file and it will open up the folder it is saved in. Gone are the days of searching all of your files trying to remember where the mockup was originally created. You will also be able to zoom in and out, open the mockup in a new window, change the transparency, and once again zoom in and out on the mockup within the opened Zeplin window. Digital Product Design NYC Meetup - ADP Lifion NYC - May 17 2016 - Designing Human Behavior: The Basics of Habit-Forming Product Design http://www.meetup.com/NYC-Digital-Product-Design/events/230477235/ Behavior change products are simultaneously compelling and incredibly difficult to build. For example, how does a product teach users a new language, or even healthy habits that will make them lose weight? Based on the works of prominent behavioral economists, we'll cover the thought process that leads a user to take action and how to foster it. We'll also learn strategies that you can apply to the product design process to help your users change their lives. PRESENTER Logan Merriam is a product designer at Noom Inc, where he builds products that help patients of chronic disease reverse their conditions through behavior change. Prior to that he was lead designer at Kinsa Inc, tracking the spread of disease using a smartphone-based thermometer. Logan also created and currently runs flaredown.com, a community of people with incurable chronic illness learning to analyze their treatments and fix their symptoms. https://www.noom.com/ EVENT & VENUE SPONSOR Lifion, by ADP, invites you to visit our new home for big ideas, ambitious folks, and those who are truly committed to delivering finely made products at scale. Julie Zhuo: How a Facebook Designer Thinks [Entire Talk]

36:54
Julie Zhuo, vice president of product design at Facebook, describes how the development of new features starts with three questions: What people problem are we solving? How do we know it’s a real problem? And how will we know if we’ve solved it? Zhuo explains how answering those fundamental questions at the outset reveals the most urgent problems to tackle — and yields features that truly enhance user satisfaction. Atomic Design - How To Make Web and UI Design Easier

10:04
What is Atomic Design? What are design systems? How can you speed up your web design process? Ever set out on a website or interface design project and wind up buried under hundreds of screens? Do your prototypes grow out of control and overwhelm your clients? Want to know how to get a website or project approved without designing every. single. screen? Ben Burns (@mrbenburns) has the answer you've been looking for. Special thanks to Framer X for sponsoring this video! Start your design system in Framer X today: http://bit.ly/FramerXDesignSystems 'Design Systems for the Future’ is a collection contributed by designers working on teams at Slack, Dropbox and Facebook, all curated by the team at Framer: http://bit.ly/DesignSystemsHub In the past few years, we've seen tremendous improvement in screen/interface design tools. Designing for screens has never been easier. With this change, we've seen our prototypes grow to be extremely unwieldy - 50, 100, 150 pages that are designed, usually by multiple designers, sometimes across different countries. We spent a lot of time establishing standards, and quality checking everybody's work. This significantly drained the creative director's and art director's time. There HAD to be a better way. Enter: Atomic Design. Atomic Design is a series of visual building blocks that start out very basic and become more complex as you move up the food chain. These visual building blocks are organized by complexity into different buckets: Atoms, Molecules, Organisms, Templates, and Pages. Each element type builds upon the previous in order to create fully fleshed out digital products. I remember first hearing about all this, and I have to say it was all a little confusing. If you're like me, you might want to watch this video a few times - no shame here. But many of you are probably like, whoa, wait, how do I even start this? It's pretty simple. As long as you remember one thing: Atomic design isn't meant to be linear! This means we don't expect you to start creating atoms right away. How boring would that be? Making button... after button... after button... Instead, we start by designing a page or two. Or three. And we do a few variations of pages. Sometimes we'll explore 10-20 ways to design something as simple as a home page or a product page. Once we're finished with the page design... or designs... we look for patterns. After identifying these patterns, we start extracting the elements, standardizing them, and adding each element to its own library as a reusable component. 👉Subscribe: https://goo.gl/F2AEbk We love getting your letters. Designing the rest of your life | Dave Evans | TEDxSanFranciscoSalon

19:00
How can design can help us create a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are. DAVE is adjunct Lecturer, product design program director at Stanford and co-founder of Electronic Arts. From saving the seals to solving the energy crisis, from imagining the first computer mice to redefining software — Dave’s been on a mission, including helping others to find theirs. Starting at Stanford with dreams of following Jacques Cousteau as a marine biologist, Dave shifted to mechanical engineering with an eye on the energy problem. So while en route to biomedical engineering, Dave accepted an invitation to work for Apple, where he led product marketing for the mouse team and introduced laser printing to the masses. When Dave’s boss at Apple left to start Electronic Arts, Dave joined as the company’s first VP of Talent, dedicated to making “software worthy of the minds that use it.” Dave holds a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and a graduate diploma in Contemplative Spirituality from San Francisco Theological Seminary. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Design software: What I use | CharliMarieTV

This week I talk about what design software I use for different types of design projects. In case you've ever been curious! Please remember to subscribe! http://bit.ly/1aE5UOT "What software did you use to make that?" is a question designers get asked a lot. While it really doesn't matter what software you use to design something, it's true that different software is best for different projects, so I thought I'd go over what I use for web design, illustration, print design and more in this weeks video.
