Xenwatch Multithreading - Dongli Zhang, Oracle

36:18
Xenwatch Multithreading - Dongli Zhang, Oracle The Xen domU create/destroy and device hotplug rely on xenwatch kernel thread to run xenwatch event callback function for each subscribed xenstore node update. Any event callback function hang would stall the only single xenwatch thread and forbid further domU create/destroy or device hotplug. This talk presents how Xenwatch Multithreading can address the xenwatch stall issue. In addition to the default xenwatch thread, the dom0 will create a per-domU kernel thread for each domU to handle their own xenwatch event. Therefore, domU create/destroy or device hotplug are still allowed even when a specific per-domU xenwatch thread is stalled. This talk first discusses the limitation in single-threaded xenwatch design with some case studies, then explains the basic knowledge on paravirtual driver, and finally presents the challenge, design and implementation of xenwatch multithreading. About Dongli Zhang Dongli Zhang is a Principal Member of Technical Staff at Oracle Linux, where his work is to sustain Xen and Linux used by Oracle products, e.g., Oracle VM, Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK), Private Cloud Appliance (PCA) or Oracle Public Cloud (OPC). He primarily works on paravirtual drivers, Xen specific kernel changes, Xen hypervisor/toolstack and sometimes networking. He used to work as Research Intern at Samsung Research America and Research Assistant/Teaching Assistant at Stony Brook University. He obtained his Master in Computer Science at Stony Brook University in 2012. He used to present a conference paper at ACM Symposium on Cloud Computing (SoCC) 2014. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

Scheduling Jobs through Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service

05:42
Are you overwhelmed with scheduling jobs? Does your administration have Server Access, or are they challenged with scheduling jobs without the needed access? With Oracle Scheduler, you can create, run, and manage jobs. Many types of jobs can be scheduled to run in a frequent manner depending on the time chosen. You can run jobs on a weekly, daily, monthly, yearly or real time. There is a wide array of jobs that can be created. All the jobs need a prior creation of the underlying task they are to be processing. A couple of examples: - Any kind of business rule must be created before the job can be scheduled - Data/Metadata import/export jobs must be created before the job can be scheduled. Any import/export will be read/pushed to the Inbox/outbox under Overview, Actions, Inbox/Outbox explorer - Application mappings must be created before using Cube map function to move data from one plan type to another which is found under “Data Maps” - Valid intersections reports job must be created under Application, Setup before this type of job can be created Good news is that all the job creations are easy to build as they are on the same user inter-phase under “Application” This demonstration will provide an example of creating a refresh database job and scheduling it to run on the same time on a daily bases.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. Excel: Text to columns| fixed & Delimited

06:35
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to use text to columns option in excel PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

7. Compile-time warnings help avoid "WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL".

03:23
One of Tom Kyte's favorite pet peeves, the following exception sections "swallow up" errors. EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN NULL; EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE (SQLERRM); In fact, any exception handler that does not re-raise the same exception or another, runs the risk of hiding errors from the calling subprogram, your users, and yourself as you debug your code. Generally, you should log the error, then re-raise it. There are certainly some cases in which this advice does not hold (for example: a function that fetches a single row for a primary key. If there is no row for the key, it's not an application error, so just return NULL). In those cases, include a comment so that the person maintaining your code in the distant future knows that you weren't simply ignoring the Wisdom of the Kyte. Example: EXCEPTION WHEN OTHERS THEN /* No company or this ID, let calling subprogram decide what to do */ RETURN NULL; One way to avoid this problem is to turn on compile-time warnings. Then when your program unit is compiled, you will be warned if the compiler has identified an exception handler that does not contain a RAISE statement or a call to RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR. Oracle tutorial: User Defined Exception in Oracle PL SQL pl sql exception handling pl sql exception handling examples This video will show you how to raise user defined exceptions in oracle. Example: BEGIN IF condition THEN RAISE exception_name; END IF; EXCEPTION WHEN exception_name THEN statement; END; 1)We can defined exception to make your own exception. 2)This exception must be declare yourself and RAISE statement to raise explicitly. Declare exception : user_define_exception_name EXCEPTION; RAISE exception : RAISE user_define_exception_name; How to use : WHEN user_define_exception_name THEN //User Action lets see an example DECLARE exception1 EXCEPTION; g NUMBER; BEGIN FOR g IN (SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE) LOOP IF g.ID = 7 THEN RAISE exception1; END IF; END LOOP; EXCEPTION WHEN exception1 THEN dbms_output.put_line(‘WE HAVE FOUND EMPLOYEE NUMBER 7’); END; / Subscribe on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpiyAesWNYOXSz5GPq8lbkA For more tutorial please visit #techquerypond https://techquerypond.com https://techquerypond.wordpress.com https://twitter.com/techquerypond
