Oracle vs SQL Server vs MySQL Contest!

04:42
As you study databases, there is a category of databases known as relational databases. These organize data in tables. The three most popular relational databases are MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle. These database systems are top competitors. These are very similar and they are all very popular. Which one is best? They are very strong competitors. Of course certain ones are better for certain things, but they are all based off of the SQL standard. I am announcing that I am making videos over all three relational database systems. I am uploading them at the same time and turning it into a competition. The scoring systems works like this: 1 view = 1 point. 1 like = 10 points. The competition starts on video #23 and ends on video #150. After this I will add up the points and see which series wins. The winning series gets a bonus 50 videos. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP ME! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Should I Learn Oracle or SQL Server?

02:17
Should I learn Oracle or SQL Server? While Oracle DBA certification pays well, the classes and getting a practice version of Oracle is expensive. I heard you could get versions of SQL Server for free. Part of it depends on the software developers you're working with. Use SQL Server if you're working with Microsoft's .Net, whereas Java developers are more likely to use Oracle. I didn't know that SQL Server was a Microsoft brand. So if you'll be working on MS servers and MS databases, you need to learn the SQL server. Which one is better for my career? There are typically more MS SQL jobs, but the Oracle jobs pay more. Oracle doesn't have as many jobs, but you have less competition. Those who didn't join the Microsoft cult pay a price for it. Which one is harder to learn? Oracle is rather complex, whereas MS SQL Server is simpler because it has a good graphical user interface. It's nice to hear that Microsoft made at least one good user interface. They usually put out crap, but once in a while, there's a good one. I've heard MySQL is more popular. Only because of the so called popularity of Microsoft. Oracle is the heavyweight database tool. Which relational database is better? MySQL works with almost any web-based application. Oracle is more stable, secure and scalable for enterprise wide applications. I'm glad to know that the big data that is running the world isn't all beholden to Bill Gates. No, but most PCs that generate the data still are. It sounds like I need to learn Oracle. Fortunately, you can learn Oracle inside and out and a little MS SQL and do almost any database admin job you'd like. You're guaranteed to get dates if you can proudly announce you have stable, well paying employment. It's like saying you're a musician, artist and athlete at once. Girls will just be happy if she doesn't have to pay for the date these days.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 1 - Intro to Oracle Database

10:18
As illustrated in the video, Oracle Database is a program designed to hold lots of information, or data. There are all kinds of different databases and they all have their uses. Some of the most common ones are MySQL, SQL Server, Sybase, and MongoDB. All of these have different uses. The differences will be easier to understand after you learn more about each kind of database. We did not discuss it much in the video, but if you are wondering what “SQL” means in the title, it stands for structured query language. Structured query language is a human readable computer language that is used to tell databases to do things. We will discuss SQL and Oracle SQL Developer more in future videos. Databases are better than spreadsheets because they allow multiple users at one time, different levels of access given to users, recovery options and transactions, and it is more protected from hacking and malicious destruction. Programming languages often have very useful functions or methods that can be used to communicate to a database and therefore they are a naturally good option for the back end of programs. This course will go over all of the major parts of database programming using Oracle SQL. We will be using Oracle 11g, but these videos should still work with other versions, including the most recent 12c. Q and A ~~~~~~ How much does Oracle cost? The full enterprise edition costs thousands. They have other versions for less and they even have a FREE VERSION! This is known as the XE version (eXpress Edition). That is the one we will be using. How long does it take to learn SQL? You can learn all of the basics and be an efficient beginner database developer in only about a month of practice. To become an intermediate it can take anywhere from an additional 3 - 6 months with a only a few hours of studying and practicing each day. How can I learn SQL faster? Take notes and actually mess around with making your own database. Watch these videos until you understand the concepts within them, read articles and books that teach in more depth. Reduce the cost of an Oracle database migration project by using SQL Server Linked Servers

02:04
When talking about migration from Oracle to SQL Server, we always look for ways to work with our customers to keep costs under control. We recently completed an Oracle to SQL Server migration proof of concept project for a government organization in South America. What made this project unique was the way we used SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) to convert one of eleven Oracle database schemas that were running on a 12-node Oracle RAC cluster to SQL Server. The other ten schemas remained in place and we used SQL Server Linked Servers on the new SQL Server instance to connect to the Oracle schema tables. Check out our blog post for more information - https://www.dbbest.com/blog/reduce-cost-database-migration-using-sqlserver-linked-servers/

Database clustering is when you have multiple computers working together that are all used to store your data. There are four primary reasons you should consider clustering. Data redundancy, Load balancing (scalability) High availability. Monitoring and Automation That is an intro to a few of the reasons having a cluster is a good idea. Obviously, not everyone needs a cluster. A cluster can be overkill. But the best way to know is to learn more about them, so I’ll see you in the next video! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle SQL Tutorial 2 - Entities and Attributes

10:19
Entities and Attributes is a concept you will need to know for any relational database. Entities are the things we store data about and entities are the things that we store about the data. Each entity and attribute has a generic and a specific. So a generic entity (known as an entity type) gives a blue print for the specific entities to be based off of...watch the video, it will make sense. Same for the attributes, an attribute takes general attribute types (like phone number, name, etc), and gives you guidance on how to give specific values for other entities. How-to install Oracle Linux 7.1 + Static ip + LAMP SERVER + webmin admin panel

12:28
In this video i am going to show you how-to install Oracle Linux 7.1 with a static ip , install apache web server , oracle mysql, PHP and webmin admin panel. COMMANDS http://ribalinux.blogspot.pt/2015/03/how-to-install-oracle-linux-71-static.html DOWNLOAD http://ftp.linux.org.uk/pub/distributions/enterprise/OL7/u1/x86_64/OracleLinux-R7-U1-Server-x86_64-dvd.iso LAMP is a combination of free, open source software. The acronym LAMP refers to the first letters of Linux (operating system), Apache HTTP Server, MySQL (database software), and PHP, Perl or Python, principal components to build a viable general purpose web server. The exact combination of software included in a LAMP package may vary, especially with respect to the web scripting software, as Perl or Python are sometimes dropped from the stack. Similar terms exist for essentially the same software suite (AMP) running on other operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows (WAMP), Mac OS (MAMP), Solaris (SAMP), iSeries (iAMP), or OpenBSD (OAMP). Though the original authors of these programs did not design them all to work specifically with each other, the development philosophy and tool sets are shared and were developed in close conjunction. The software combination has become popular because it is free of cost, open-source, and therefore easily adaptable, and because of the ubiquity of its components which are bundled with most current Linux distributions. Comparing Temporary Tables in Oracle and SQL Server

01:11:08
Presented by Jonathan Lewis (Oracle ACE Director, OakTable) and Grant Fritchey (SQL Server MVP) Thurs 11th October 2012 Summary Temporary tables are often used in applications for processes that are difficult to complete in a single pass. They are widely used in SQL Server development and can be local and global. In Oracle temporary tables are created with a static global definition, but are used to hold temporary local content. But is this the only difference in temporary tables in Oracle and SQL Server? What about the performance impacts/gains for using temporary tables, and does this differ in Oracle and SQL Server? Once again Jonathan Lewis (Oracle Ace Director, OakTable Network) and Grant Fritchey (Microsoft SQL Server MVP) will host a live discussion on Oracle and SQL Server, this time in relation to temporary tables. Will they agree on some common ground? Or will it be an out and out argument? Either way, be prepared for a lively exchange that will not only entertain, but will teach you key concepts on Oracle and SQL Server. A Q+A session with Jonathan and Grant will follow the presentation. For our complete archive, and to sign up for upcoming webinars please go to http://www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars

Statistics in Oracle and SQL Server

01:28:28
The better the information that Oracle and SQL Server have about the data in a database, the better choices they can make on how to execute the SQL. Statistics are Oracle's and SQL Server's chief source of information. If this information is out of date, performance of queries will suffer. In their third live 'Oracle vs. SQL Server' discussion, Jonathan Lewis (Oracle Ace Director, OakTable Network) and Grant Fritchey (Microsoft SQL Server MVP) will look at statistics in Oracle and SQL Server. Do Oracle and SQL Server gather the same information? What does each optimizer use this information for? And how can Oracle and SQL Server administrators override the defaults for better (or worse) performance? These are just some of the questions that Jonathan and Grant will try to answer in another not-to-be-missed session. As before, this will be a live discussion with limited supporting slides, and will conclude with a Q+A session with Jonathan and Grant. Be prepared for a lively exchange that will not only entertain, but will teach you key concepts on Oracle and SQL Server. For our complete archive please go to http://www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars

Oracle SQL Tuning - How to Read Execution Plans (Explain Plan)

13:39
In this free tutorial you will learn how to generate and read (interpret) an execution plan in Oracle Databases. See more FREE Oracle Tuning tutorials at http://skillbuilders.com/free-oracle-tutorials. Understanding what the Oracle Database does with your SQL is essential to tuning - and the execution plan is the key. Oracle Certified Master DBA John Watson will provide a brief introduction (4 minutes) - which includes John's tuning methodology, then demonstrate EXPLAIN PLAN, SQL*Plus AUTOTRACE and DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY_CURSOR. In the tutorial, John will teach you: - How to read an execution plan - Find the 1st step in the plan - Decipher the order of the steps in the plan - That EXPLAIN PLAN can be very misleading Prerequisites: To get the most from this tutorial, you should: 1 Know how to code SQL 2 Be familiar with SQL*Plus 3 Know - in very general terms - what an execution plan is. 4 Have a basic understanding of the Library Cache (this is where Oracle Database stores parsed SQL statements) 5 Have a basic understanding of the Cost Based Optimizer (this is the part of the database that parses your SQL, creates an execution plan. Hopefully the correct - most efficient - plan).

24:30
Oracle Linux Server Release 7.0 x86_64. Oracle Linux, formerly known as Oracle Enterprise Linux, is a Linux distribution based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), repackaged and freely distributed by Oracle, available under the GNU General Public License (GPL) since late 2006. Oracle Linux can be downloaded through Oracle's E-delivery service or from a variety of mirror sites, and can be deployed and distributed without cost. Commercial technical support is available through Oracle's Oracle Linux Support program, which supports Oracle Linux, and existing RHEL or CentOS installations (i.e. without reinstallation). As of 2013, Oracle Linux has over 11,000 customers subscribed to the support program. Oracle Corporation distributes Oracle Linux with two alternative kernels: Red Hat Compatible Kernel - identical to the kernel shipped in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) - based on newer mainline Linux kernel versions, with Oracle's own enhancements for OLTP, InfiniBand, and SSD disk access, NUMA-optimizations, Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS), async I/O, OCFS2, and networking. Oracle claims that the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel is compatible with RHEL, and that Oracle middleware and third-party RHEL-certified applications can install and run unchanged on the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel. For users requiring strict compatibility with Red Hat or for users running kernel modules dependent on specific kernel versions, the Red Hat Compatible Kernel offers 100% compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Oracle Linux is used as the underlying operating system for the following appliances: Oracle Exadata Oracle Exalogic Oracle Big Data Appliance Oracle Exalytics Oracle Database Appliance

Calculate running total in SQL Server 2012

06:23
running total sql server cumulative total in ms sql server running total column In this video we will discuss how to calculate running total in SQL Server 2012 and later versions. We will use the following Employees table for the examples in this video. SQL Script to create Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Salary int ) Go Insert Into Employees Values (1, 'Mark', 'Male', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (2, 'John', 'Male', 4500) Insert Into Employees Values (3, 'Pam', 'Female', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (4, 'Sara', 'Female', 4000) Insert Into Employees Values (5, 'Todd', 'Male', 3500) Insert Into Employees Values (6, 'Mary', 'Female', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (7, 'Ben', 'Male', 6500) Insert Into Employees Values (8, 'Jodi', 'Female', 7000) Insert Into Employees Values (9, 'Tom', 'Male', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (10, 'Ron', 'Male', 5000) Go SQL Query to compute running total without partitions SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (ORDER BY ID) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees SQL Query to compute running total with partitions SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (PARTITION BY Gender ORDER BY ID) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees What happens if I use order by on Salary column If you have duplicate values in the Salary column, all the duplicate values will be added to the running total at once. In the example below notice that we have 5000 repeated 3 times. So 15000 (i.e 5000 + 5000 + 5000) is added to the running total at once. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, SUM(Salary) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS RunningTotal FROM Employees So when computing running total, it is better to use a column that has unique data in the ORDER BY clause. Oracle SQL Tutorial 18 - How to Create Foreign Keys

07:09
In this video we are going to be creating foreign keys. I highly recommend watching the previous video before you watch this one. Essentially, we are creating a very simple database for a system where we can create projects and add people to those projects. We started with the users table: --Delete the table if needed: --DROP TABLE users; CREATE TABLE users( user_id NUMBER, username VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, CONSTRAINT users_pk PRIMARY KEY (user_id) ); Now we are going to create a table for projects with a column that is a foreign key to the username. We're going to want to make this match data types: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) ) Next, we need to add the column attributes we decided on last video: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL ) NOT NULL because we want every project to have a creator, but we are not labeling UNIQUE because that means we could only have a specific username once in the table. We want to allow a user to create multiple projects. We also need to add a primary key: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT projects_pk PRIMARY KEY (username) ) Now, the question that remains is, how can I tell Oracle that I want the username to reference the username column of the other table? We have to make a foreign key constraint. As you've learned from the previous videos, there are about three ways to create constraints. You can do it inline at the column level, unnamed. You can do it at the column level, named, and you can do it at the Table level, named. Usually the table-level is preferred, but I will quickly remind you how to do all three again. CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL REFERENCES users (username), CONSTRAINT projects_pk PRIMARY KEY (project_id) ) This works, but if we want to name it, we should do this: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT projects_users_fk REFERENCES users (username), CONSTRAINT projects_pk PRIMARY KEY (project_id) ) This works, but the preferred method is to do it at the table level: CREATE TABLE projects( project_id NUMBER, project_name VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) UNIQUE, creator VARCHAR2(50 CHAR) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT projects_pk PRIMARY KEY (project_id), CONSTRAINT projects_users_fk FOREIGN KEY (creator) REFERENCES users (username) ) Great! So you've learned how to create a foreign key, now we can see it inside of Oracle SQL Developer. One important thing when it comes to foreign keys is what happens when have data in your database and you try to delete the parent row that a row in the child table references? In the next video we are going to configure that using ON DELETE. Andy Mendelsohn, Oracle - Oracle OpenWorld 2015 - #OOW15 - #theCUBE

Huge Growth in Oracle's Database Cloud Service. (19:01) Track List created with http://www.vinjavideo.com. --- --- Oracle competing hard in cloud computing | #oow15 by Nelson Williams | Oct 27, 2015 Remote computing is a huge thing now, with companies both small and large taking to the cloud. However, the cloud is more than just a layer out there, somewhere. It’s a realm of data, and that data must be managed by a database. Traditional database solutions are not always appropriate for a cloud-enabled business. Now, the question is, what changes are coming to the database world to better enable cloud solutions, and how can Oracle address this issue? To shed some light on this question, John Furrier and Stu Miniman, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, spoke with Andy Mendelsohn at the Oracle OpenWorld 2015 conference. Mendelsohn is the executive VP of database server technologies at Oracle. Transformations at Oracle The discussion started with a look at the transformations that have happened within Oracle to meet the challenges of the cloud. Mendelsohn explained that on the inside, very little had changed. The company had been navigating new trends for years, he said, and its reaction to this latest development was the same as usual. The plan, he said, was to look at the landscape, take advantage of what’s going on and do it in a way that doesn’t require customers to change a line of code. That’s not to say Oracle hadn’t produced anything new. Mendelsohn described a number of database cloud services the company was offering to help stake its claim in this changing landscape. Oracle had also developed new technologies that would allow enterprise customers to run their biggest and heaviest applications in the cloud. Lowering costs in the face of competition Operational expenditures have been a major concern for any tech company. Running infrastructure costs serious money. Larger companies have already made that investment, so who is adopting the cloud? Smaller companies, Mendelsohn said, that want someone else to take over their IT operations for them. This lowers their operating costs. Mendelsohn then added that Oracle’s heavier cloud tech would take away a lot of the blockages for big guys, as well. Beyond the cost savings of the cloud, Oracle had other ways to compete. Mendelsohn explained the development group was focused on delivering new services on the cloud, including its Big Data services. He also said it was layering other capabilities on top of these services, giving analytics tools as an example. @theCUBE #oow15

How To Do Capacity Planning

26:47
Most IT organizations tend to manage system performance in a reactionary fashion, analyzing and correcting performance problems as users report them. When problems occur, hopefully system administrators have tools necessary to quickly analyze and remedy the situation. In a perfect world, administrators prepare in advance in order to avoid performance bottlenecks altogether, using capacity planning tools to predict in advance how servers should be configured to adequately handle future workloads. Watch as capacity planning expert Jon Hill explains the 3 crucial steps of successful capacity planning. Hill then performs real world demonstrations that detail each step using TeamQuest Performance Software. If you're in the capacity management arena or just want to know more on how to efficiently manage IT infrastructure performance; this video is a must see.
