Center for Healthy Sex presents a lecture by Dan Lacovara, MA: "Gay Men, Sex Addiction and Party Drugs"
"The Sex Experts" is a monthly webinar series for sex therapists and specialists to present educational and informational material for the general public.
The use of recreational or "party" drugs has a long history in the gay men's community. Often they are used in social settings such as dance clubs or circuit parties. When drug use is paired with sex, the impact can be profoundly upsetting to psychological health. This is especially true for men who already have a propensity towards or a history of compulsive sexual behavior. In this lecture we'll discuss the difference between sexual compulsivity and sex addiction and how drug use can fuel these behaviors with disastrous results.
Dan Lacovara, M.A., is a staff clinical associate at CHS working with sex addiction and love addiction. Dan's primary focus is on providing individual treatment to men with sex compulsivity and addiction issues and to women struggling with love addiction. Before joining CHS, Dan worked at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center, where he worked with clients with substance abuse and mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and grief and loss. In addition, he designed the curriculum for and co-facilitated the Center's first Sexual Compulsives Group for men.
