Siri and Google Home Integration - Using Siri Shortcuts to Drive Google Assistant Actions Those of you with an iPhone and an iPad know that Apple's Siri is the voice assistant that you've been forced to use for a long time. Well, now with Siri Shortcuts on iOS, you can pull up the Google Assistant application and therefore use your home automation with Google Home, Google Home Mini, Google Home Hub, and of course the Google Assistant. In this tutorial video, I show you the easiest way to get Siri and Google Home working together. I show you how to create shortcuts quickly and efficiently, and then how to ensure that you have easy ways to use those new shortcuts. With these shortcuts, you can drive all kinds of home and life automation, including running routines, playing music, videos, and much more. After you link Siri to Google Assistant through Shortcuts and the Google Assistant application, you simply need to execute commands on your Google Assistant application. Once you've executed those commands (with the right settings on your iOS device), they show up as Siri Suggestions in the Shortcuts application. From there, it's just a matter of placing them into the different shortcuts you'd like. All in all #Siri shortcuts and #GoogleHome or #GoogleAssistant integration is going to be very useful and it'll allow all of us to really drive a lot of great integration with our iPhones. If you need any recommendations for home automation products, here's my Amazon Influencer Shop. Yes, I make money if you buy a product from Amazon through this link, but I've only included products I personally recommend. It's a curated list of high-quality smart home products. https://www.amazon.com/shop/automateyourlife Thanks for watching, and please subscribe below! Since a recent update, you can now use Siri from your iOS devices to voice control paired devices from the Xiaomi Mi Home APP. How does this work? Let's find out! ▶ Check out my gear on Kit: https://kit.com/Xiaomify It's quite easy to set up these automation rules. -Keep in mind that (for now?!) only the automation rules that are set to 'Manual Control' are supported. These "Manual input" rules can be triggered from within the Mijia APP, through the control center in iOS, and they can now also simply be added as a shortcut to Siri. Once you have added a new 'manual' automation rule, you can find the "Add to Siri" button on top of that list. From there you can record a Siri command that will trigger that rule. It's that easy! Good to know is that this only supports these rules, and only "Then This" type of products are supported. This means you can't inquire the status of your temperature sensor through Siri like you would when using the Aqara hub with Apple Homekit. It does support a lot more products than the Aqara hub with Homekit, but in some ways it's also less convenient. The Homekit integration of the Aqara hub will synchronize your paired Homekit devices to all the devices you have set up your Homekit on; including your iPad's, Mac's, etc.. The Siri shortcut commands from the Xiaomi Mi Home APP won't synchronize between your various devices, so you would have to set up the Siri Commands on each device separately. (The Automation rules, however, WILL be synced.) Another downside is that you will have to use the EXACT same phrase, the way you have set it up. if your phrase is "Turn on desk light" you can not use the phrase "Enable desk lamp" for example. So you would have to remember the exact phrase you have set up. It would be great to add additional phrases to trigger the same command but I doubt this will be an option. Overall it is a great step forward, allowing you to Siri control from within the Mi Home APP is something I did not expect to happen; but it did! I could control most of the products I have installed, these are the same products I can use 'regular' automation rules with, so it works with a lot of devices including the Vacuum Robots, Lights (Philips, Ikea, Xiaomi, Aqara, Yeelight), Power Sockets and Smart Power Strips (all of them), Air Conditioners & AC controllers, Heaters, Fans, etc.. I could not use it with the coffeemaker or the smart laundry machine, but these devices don't have "Start" functionality with automation rules at all so that does make sense. I do hope to see some improvements with this Siri support, (Syncing phrases, several phrases to trigger, etc) but so far it is a lot more then I could ever expect in the first place!

Remember Siri being introduced by Apple on stage alongside the iPhone 4s? It was an incredible moment that impressed not only the audience but also tech critics like Walt Mossberg who called Siri a standout feature of the iPhone 4s. But Siri didn’t evolve as quickly as most expected and now the same people who were praising Siri back in 2011 are now asking why Siri seems so dumb! What went wrong with Siri and how did it fall so far behind its competition? Well the answer can be found in examining the path Siri has been on since its development back in 2005.

Technology companies are in a race to build the best voice-powered virtual assistant. But the most valuable company in the world, Apple, is lagging behind its competitors. And that's not an accident. VICE News spoke to John Burkey, who worked on the Siri Advanced Development team from 2014 to 2016, to try and figure out why Siri is so far behind its competitors. “There's this old sci-fi myth that there’s these great scientists and they build this amazing machine, and they're really proud of themselves,” Burkey said, describing Siri. “And then after years of success, they all die in the next couple generations. They lose all knowledge of the machines, so they become priests who bang on the machine and say incantations and they hope the machine works. That's kind of what happened to Siri.” Voice assistants aren’t revenue drivers in any way, but technologists say they are important for the future of tech companies because of the valuable data they collect from users. All types of intimate information can be compiled and studied by these voice assistants, which is ultimately useful in the development in future products. The thing is, Apple doesn't collect much data about its users in any capacity, which is why Siri is so, well, bad in comparison to her cohort. And after Apple's announcement of Shortcuts, a complicated new tool ostensibly meant to improve it, at the 2018 Worldwide Developer Conference, it's unclear what their strategy is going forward. Today we’re going to discuss the current state of Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant that’s used on almost all their products. Now Siri has been around since 2011, and at the time its technology was considered pretty impressive. But it hasn’t aged well at all, and in the last seven years Siri has fell behind its competition. So why wasn’t Apple able to develop Siri as quickly as they needed to? And why does it still perform so poorly? Well that’s exactly what we’ll find out today. Now I want to start off the video by providing evidence that Siri is in fact one of the least reliable virtual assistants on the market. Let’s take a look at the most recent data for 2018 collected by Stone Temple. They tested Alexa, Cortana, Google Assistant, and Siri by measuring how often each assistant attempted to answer a question, and then measure what percentage of those answers were accurate. And as you can see from the graph, Siri came in last place for both metrics. Only attempting to answer about 41% of questions asked. And of those attempted answers, only 80% were accurate. That means only 32% of questions were answered accurately by Siri. So it makes sense why Apple users are so frustrated by the feature and find themselves hardly using it. Now lets compare Siri’s performance to its competition. Amazon’s Alexa came in third answering about 44% of questions accurately, Microsoft’s Cortana came in second with 60%, and Google Assistant came in first with an incredible 74% of questions answered correctly. So when you look at these numbers through an unbiased lens, you begin to understand just how far behind Siri is. And it’s worth investigating how exactly that happened, especially considering that Siri has been on the market twice as long as Cortana and Alexa, and more than three times as long as Google’s Assistant. And although it spent two years in beta after it was released on the iPhone 4S, Siri still feels like an unfinished feature for many Apple users.

The days of doing a search on an Apple product and being sent to Google are long gone. Siri routes people to one of many different search resources, with Bing as a ultimate backup. The new Spotlight feature on the Mac works similarly. Safari still uses Google as a default, but suggestions might detour searches away from it. Even without Apple CarPlay you can always make use of Apple Siri in a Mercedes with COMAND Online. You just have to pair your phone for hands free calling with the COMAND system and Siri will work automatically by pressing the LINGUATRONIC button a few seconds.

http://www.beet.tv/2010/06/siri-is-embedded-in-all-apple-products-stewart-alsop-.html Stewart Alsop, veteran venture capitalist, ex-tech journalist, and Apple watcher, says that Apple is developing a smart search architecture and is embedding its newly acquired Siri technology into all its devices and content. Siri was purchased by Apple in April. TechCrunch speculates that Apple paid $200 million for it. Not exactly a "search" engine, Siri has been characterized as an "intelligent agent" that produces results without a query. Alsop expects that the next product from Apple will be television. We spoke with him at the All Things Digital conference. During his on-stage chat, Apple CEO Steve Jobs denied that Apple was creating a search engine. On his own iPad, Alsop says the device is a "full function product for a kid," not for an adult. Update: Here's the take on Siri and Apple by Jemima Kiss at The Guardian. It's attractive, installs easily, and feels every bit as good as the traditional deadbolt I've had on my door. But like many companies that try to make their traditional products go "smart" the software comes up a bit short - especially with the Apple Homekit enabled version of the product. Given that this one uses a different communications module as compared to the other versions of the Assure lock, some features (like digital keys) are not available. It will also only work with Homekit and therefore is not compatible with Amazon Alexa, and other smart home hubs and devices. The result is that those looking to provide limited guest access to a home with Homekit version will not have as many options. 25 pin codes can be assigned but it's not possible to limit when and how those pins can be used. Users can be given access via Homekit but they'll then also have access to everything else in the house too. The other versions of this product (as well as many other smart locks) allow the guest keys to be used only on certain days of the week and can even limit what time of day those virtual keys can be used. Otherwise the Homekit integration works great for those invested in that ecosystem. I am a mixed use household with Alexa, Google Home, and Siri. I would rate it better if Yale could have integrated support for multiple platforms simultaneously on this device in addition to restricted guest keys. This simple Tutorial will show in 10 minutes how to connect Siri and Apple Homekit to almost ANY cheap Smart Home device including the Broadlink RM Pro and Sonoff devices. I will show you how to turn Siri into an IFTTT trigger using the IFTTT Webhooks service so you will be able to control almost any cheap Smart Plug or Smart lights, but this will also show you how to connect Siri to control any infrared based TV or set top box using the Broadlink IFTTT service! IFTTT is also connected to Samsung Smartthings, which means you will also be able to control Smartthings with Siri! This technique will allow you to control almost anything. I don't own an apple homepod to test if this works with the apple speaker, but all documentation suggests that it would, but the homepod will be reliant on the i-phone to carry out the request. If you guys can let me know in the comments if and how it works with homepod it would be appreciated. This 'how to' tutorial video moves at typical Paul Hibbert pace, so get ready to hit that pause button!
