Oracle Database Performance Tuning - Optimizer Statistics Gathering

04:51
In this video we explain how to gather the database optimizer statistics #performancetuning, #oracledatabase, #oracle, #database, #optimizerstatistics, #learning, About Optimizer Statistics Collection In Oracle Database, optimizer statistics collection is the gathering of optimizer statistics for database objects, including fixed objects. The database can collect optimizer statistics automatically. You can also collect them manually using the DBMS_STATS package. Purpose of Optimizer Statistics Collection The contents of tables and associated indexes change frequently, which can lead the optimizer to choose suboptimal execution plan for queries. To avoid potential performance issues, statistics must be kept current. To minimize DBA involvement, Oracle Database automatically gathers optimizer statistics at various times. Some automatic options are configurable, such enabling AutoTask to run DBMS_STATS. Stats collection Stats gathering database performance tuning, 10g, 11g 12c database administration

PL/SQL tutorial : Trigger in Oracle Database 11g Complete guide

26:21
Learn in depth about trigger in oracle database 11g, and usage of trigger in Database, different types of trigger with syntax for various events along with writing advance trigger and capturing all details regarding authentication. Explained Instead of trigger. Trigger in Oracle, Trigger in PL/SQL, Oracle Trigger, PL/SQL Trigger, What is Trigger in pl/sql, How to use Trigger in pl/sql, How to write a Trigger in oracle, How to design Trigger in pl/sql, DDL trigger, DML trigger, Instead of trigger, Compound trigger, Logon trigger, Introduction to Triggers You can write triggers that fire whenever one of the following operations occurs: DML statements (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE) on a particular table or view, issued by any user DDL statements (CREATE or ALTER primarily) issued either by a particular schema/user or by any schema/user in the database Database events, such as logon/logoff, errors, or startup/shutdown, also issued either by a particular schema/user or by any schema/user in the database Triggers are similar to stored procedures. A trigger stored in the database can include SQL and PL/SQL or Java statements to run as a unit and can invoke stored procedures. However, procedures and triggers differ in the way that they are invoked. A procedure is explicitly run by a user, application, or trigger. Triggers are implicitly fired by Oracle when a triggering event occurs, no matter which user is connected or which application is being used. How Triggers Are Used Triggers supplement the standard capabilities of Oracle to provide a highly customized database management system. For example, a trigger can restrict DML operations against a table to those issued during regular business hours. You can also use triggers to: Automatically generate derived column values Prevent invalid transactions Enforce complex security authorizations Enforce referential integrity across nodes in a distributed database Enforce complex business rules Provide transparent event logging Provide auditing Maintain synchronous table replicates Gather statistics on table access Modify table data when DML statements are issued against views Publish information about database events, user events, and SQL statements to subscribing applications Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aditya-kumar-roy-b3673368/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SpecializeAutomation/

R tutorial: connecting to a database

03:38
Learn more about connecting to databases with R: https://www.datacamp.com/courses/importing-data-in-r-part-2 Welcome to part two of importing data in R! The previous course dealt with accessing data stored in flat files or excel files. In a professional setting, you'll also encounter data stored in relational databases. In this video, I'll briefly talk about what a relational database is and then I'll explain how you can connect to it. In the next video, I'll explain how you can import data from it! So, what's a relational database? There's no better way to show this than with an example. Take this database, called company. It contains three tables, employees, products and sales. Like a flat file, information is displayed in a table format. The employees table has 5 records and three fields, namely id, name and started_at. The id here serves as a unique key for each row or record. Next, the products table contains the details on four products. We're dealing with data from a telecom company that's selling both with and without a contract. Also here, each product has an identifier. Finally, there's the sales table. It lists what products were sold by who, when and for what price. Notice here that the ids in employee_id and product_id correspond to the ids that you can find in the employees and products table respectively. The third sale for example, was done by the employee with id 6, so Julie. She sold the product with id 9, so the Biz Unlimited contract. These relations make this database very powerful. You only store all necessary information once in nicely separated tables, but can connect the dots between different records to model what's happening. How the data in a relational database is stored and shuffled around when you make adaptations, depends on the so-called database management system, or DBMS you're using. Open-source implementations such as MySQL, postgreSQL and SQLite are very popular, but there are also proprietary implementations such as Oracle Database and Microsoft SQL server. Practically all of these implementations use SQL, or sequel, as the language for querying and maintaining the database. SQL stands for Structured Query Language. Depending on the type of database you want to connect to, you'll have to use different packages. Suppose the company database I introduced before is a MySQL database. This means you'll need the RMySQL package. For postgreSQL you'll need RpostgreSQL, for Oracle, you'll use ROracle and so on. How you interact with the database, so which R functions you use to access and manipulate the database, is specified in another R package called DBI. In more technical terms, DBI is an interface, and RMySQL is the implementation. Let's install the RMySQL package, which automatically installs the DBI package as well. Loading only the DBI package will be enough to get started. The first step is creating a connection to the remote MySQL database. You do this with dbConnect(), as follows. The first argument specifies the driver that you will use to connect to the MySQL database. It sure looks a bit strange, but the MySQL() function from the RMySQL package simply constructs a driver for us that dbConnect can use. Next, you have to specify the database name, where the database is hosted, through which port you want to connect, and finally the credentials to authenticate yourself. This is an actual database that we're hosting, so you can try these commands yourself! The result of the dbConnect call, con, is a DBI connection object. You'll need to pass this object to whatever function you're using to interact with the database. Before we do that, let's get familiar with this connection object in the exercises!

Solving Performance Problems on Oracle DB

28:11
Solving Performance Problems on Oracle DB Matthew Vegh - Embarcadero Thursday, June 26, 2014 - 11am DBAs and database developers regularly spend a lot of time tracking down and resolving performance issues on the database servers they are responsible for; it can be very difficult, frustrating, and expensive. Given the complex interactions of applications, users and databases, new performance issues can arise almost as fast as old ones can be addressed. This session will simulate common performance problems on an Oracle server and then both identify those problems and provide effective solutions. Matthew Vegh is a Software Architect at Embarcadero Technologies for the Embarcadero DB Power Studio family of products and has been with the company for the better part of a decade. He has over 15 years of development experience with a wide range of technologies and a definite preference for database tooling.
