Beluga Coral Sea/Swains Reef Expedition 2018

02:37
www.beluga-x.com.au An incredibly detailed account of our Coral Sea/Swains Reef Expedition in January from a guest's point of view. Worth the read! A good friend of mine once said to me as a challenge, “What is there left to explore?”. It’s now generally accepted that we live in a world where it is presumed that everything that can be discovered, has been discovered. But she pointed out that this is not the case. My friend believes that it is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. Her point was that if you look closely and do a little research, you can find an adventure, a chance to explore and discover, and it can be right at your doorstep. To read the rest of this story visit our Travel Blog on our website www.beluga-x.com.au
Wave on the Coral Sea

00:08
This was during a 7 day 521 knot passage from Cairns Au to the Louisiades Archipelago in Papua New Guinea. The trip took extra long since we had to heave too in order to rest. The auto pilot went out early on and left Emily sick and me hand steering for a week straight. A handful of waves made there way on board The Corsair but she took it like a champ.

The Coral - Into the Sun

03:31
The Coral - Into the Sun (from the Butterfly House album, 2010) Lyrics: Like a river I keep on rolling Twist and turn to the sea In the morning I wander blindly On the wild summer breeze Like the seagull in the sun Today I'm moving on Tomorrow I'll be gone Like the seagull into the sun Into the sun There's no sunshine In a dark room There's no time To sit and cry There's no sorrow There's no violence When I look into the sky Like the seagull in the sun Today I'm moving on Tomorrow I'll be gone Like the seagull into the sun Into the sun

The Coral - Dream In August

04:11
The Coral - Dream In August (from the Butterfly House album, 2010) Lyrics (as best I can make them out): I see you Yes I see you there In the open arms Of a first affair Spellbound by the lamp That leads you down Through the garden To far beneath the ground You light a fire I know you Yes I know your past Jesus forgave you In the August ???? You wondered down that town You wondered down From the shelter To the holy grounds You light a fire Boats out in the harbour And the sun, it starts to shine Priests there in the parlour Turn a riddle into rhyme And you have died A thousand times I've dreamed you Yes I dreamed your face In the tarot cards That had took your place The sun you sing It seems to make no sounds In the empty room Of an empty house I light a fire

"When You Believe" cover by One Voice Children's Choir

05:16
One Voice Children's Choir, under the direction of Masa Fukuda, performs "When You Believe." Filmed on-location at Omaha Beach and Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial in Normandy, France. Performed in English, Hebrew and French. This song is dedicated to all the soldiers who fought in World War II, including those who fought at Normandy's Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches in the D-Day Invasion; and to the millions of Jewish victims who lost their lives during the Nazi Holocaust. Ms. Fernandez and her family are direct descendants and beneficiaries of the sacrifices made by the Allied Forces during the liberation of Europe. "Dear Veteran, Today, I am representing thousands of children speaking to you and to thousands of other veterans, and we want to say thank-you! Like us, you were once young and carefree, but when you were still young men and women, liberty called to you, saying,— I am dying, Come and save me! And so you arose, full of courage and zeal, to answer that call. You underwent training, day after day, for ‘D’ Day, and when that day finally arrived in June 1944, you came by air and sea. And you fought with the heart and soul of a free man, so that we too might be free. You saw your fellow soldiers fall on our beaches and in our fields, and in spite of your grief and injuries, you stayed on, saving others and fighting side-by-side with us. And so, dear veteran, I want to tell you, and those dear to you, who sacrificed their youth for our freedom and are now resting in peace, that we are here because of you and thus are your children, And to you, dear veteran, who offered us your bravery and the most promising years of your life, your sacrifice has not been in vain. We are your living sons and daughters of liberty and are here today to offer to you our most heartfelt 'merci.'" ________________________ Lyrics (including Hebrew and French lyrics:) Many night's we've prayed With no proof anyone could hear In our hearts a hopeful song We barely understood, Now we are not afraid Although we know there's much to fear We were moving mountains long before we knew we could There can be miracles When you believe Though hope is frail It's hard to kill Who knows what miracles You can achieve When you believe Somehow you will You will when you believe In this time of fear When prayer so often proved in vain Hope seemed like the summer birds Too swiftly flown away Yet now I'm standing here With heart so full I can't explain Seeking faith and speaking words I never thought I'd say There can be miracles When you believe Though hope is frail It’s hard to kill Who knows what miracles You can achieve When you believe Somehow you will You will when you believe Hebrew: Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Mi-cha-mo-cha ba-e-lim adonai Mi kamocha nedar ba kodesh; Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta Nachita v'chas-d'-cha am zu ga-alta Ashira, ashira, Ashira Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Ashira I'adonai; ki gaoh ga-ah; Mi chamocha baelim adonai; Mi kamocha nedar ba kodesh; Nachita v'-chas-d'cha am zu ga-alta Nachita v'-chas-d'cha am zu ga-alta Ashira, ashira, Ashira French: On peut faire des miracles Avec la foi Gardons espoir Il faut y croire La foi peut faire tomber Tous les obstacles La foi fait faire Tant de miracles Des miracles On en fait quand on croit On en fait quand on croit ___________________________________ "When You Believe" from Dreamworks film "The Prince of Egypt" Composer, Lyricist: Stephen Schwartz Music arranged and produced by Masa Fukuda Soloists (in order of appearance) Abigail Scott Cairo McGee Maggie Scott Abigail Higbee Violins: Lydia Haws, Kalia Reyes, Meggie Sorensen Keyboard and programming: Masa Fukuda Recorded, mixed and mastered by Masa Fukuda at One Voice Recording Studio Video Credits Director and Producer: Amy Oakeson Cinematographer and Editor: Nick Sales On Set Sound and Technical Production: Robert Wyss and Barton Thacker Production Assistants: Nancy Bandley, Anne Cecala, Wendy Sorensen, Shaundee Bull, Rory Sorensen, Sean Mason Wardrobe: Emily Childs and Lorene Elder

Kate Bush - A Coral Room

06:16
A beautiful song from disc 1, "A Sea of Honey" on her 2005 album "Aerial". The male vocal is by Michael Wood. Lyrics: There's a city, draped in net Fisherman net And in the half light, in the half light It looks like every tower Is covered in webs Moving and glistening and rocking It's babies in rhythm As the spider of time is climbing Over the ruins There were hundreds of people living here Sails at the windows And the planes came crashing down And many a pilot drowned And the speed boats flying above Put your hand over the side of the boat What do you feel? My mother and her little brown jug It held her milk And now it holds our memories I can hear her singing "Little brown jug don't I love thee" "Little brown jug don't I love thee" Ho ho ho, hee hee hee I hear her laughing She is standing in the kitchen As we come in the back door See it fall See it fall Oh little spider climbing out of a broken jug And the pieces will lay there a while In a house draped in net In a room filled with coral Sails at the window Forests of masts Put your hand over the side of the boat Put your hand over the side of the boat What do you feel?

Battle of the Coral Sea 75th Commemoration: John Hancock

02:39
The Battle of the Coral Sea was fought between combined United States and Royal Australian naval and air forces, and the Imperial Japanese navy. It was the world’s first sea battle between aircraft carriers. Literally ‘fought in the air’, it was also the first naval battle in which opposing ships neither saw nor fired on each other. After their success attacking Pearl Harbour and Darwin, the Japanese plotted to invade Port Moresby in New Guinea and to control supply lines between the USA and Australia in the Coral Sea, but their plans for Operation Mo Sakusen were intercepted by Allied codebreakers stationed in Melbourne. In early May 1942 two mighty naval fleets assembled in the Coral Sea, Japan’s in the north and the combined US and Australian fleet to the south. Read more about the battle here: http://stories.anmm.gov.au/battle_coral_sea/ John Hancock was one of eight veterans who attended the Anniversary Battle of the Coral Sea Commemorative Dinner on May 4, 2017, aboard the Intrepid in New York, presented by the American Australian Association. If You Ever See This on the Beach, Cry for Help!

08:29
How do you recognize something that you can touch and something you have to run away from as fast as possible? Here is a list of the most dangerous sea creatures you can meet and how to recognize them! There are so many different species living in the ocean! Some of them are beautiful, some are deadly, and some are both. TIMESTAMPS Fire Coral 0:40 Flower Urchin 1:20 Cone Snail 1:50 Portuguese Man-of-War 2:32 Snea snakes 3:54 Lionfish 4:51 Chironex 5:39 Surgeonfish 6:15 Indonesian needlefish 6:59 Triggerfish 7:34 SUMMARY - Fire Coral. These small organisms can sting, and the effect can be not very serious and it can be quite bad. A stung person may have severe pains, feel nauseated and even vomit, which is not the best thing to do when you are underwater. - Flower Urchin is both very beautiful and very deadly. It contains toxins that can cause anaphylactic shock, convulsions and finally death. You can get poisoned if you step on it when you are in the sea or the ocean. - Scientists say that just one drop of the cone snail’s poison is enough to kill 20 people! Just one drop! - The most mind-blowing fact about Man-of-War is that technically we should call it Men-of-War, and refer to it not as «it», but «they», and here is why: it’s an animal that is made up of a colony of organisms cooperating together. Man-of-war has tentacles that can be 30 feet long, which it uses to paralyze and kill fish and other small creatures. - Sea snakes are much more venomous than their land-living friends. As it turns out, they have to be like that because they hunt fish, so what they need to do is immobilize their prey very quickly not to let it escape. - Many people call the lionfish the most beautiful sea creature in the world. You can find them in the Caribbean and Eastern Atlantic. Lionfishes are not deadly — they do have a venom, but it’s not lethal. However, the pain you will experience if you get stung is so severe that people say you might wish you were dead. - Chironex doesn’t have any teeth, but it’s dangerous as hell. If a person gets stung, they will have excruciating pain, red inflammation in the stung area and heart dysfunction. - Surgeonfish are easily spooked, so you should be extra careful if you see one of them. Don’t make any unexpected fast moves. The good news is, surgeonfish are not aggressive unless, of course, you provoke them. - Indonesian needlefish live in tropical and subtropical waters of the oceans. They, as the name suggests, have a very sharp, needle-like beak, and they are especially dangerous when they hurl themselves out of the water. - Triggerfish is mostly friendly, but only until you are a threat to its nest. The most dangerous are females — if you approach its nest even accidentally, it will bite you. Thankfully, the bites aren’t poisonous, but triggerfish have extremely sharp teeth, so the injuries it can cause need serious medical attention. The story: I went out of town for work and when I got back, my wife Julie told me, "You've got to hear this. She puts on the music and my little 4 year old Adanna struts and shimmies across the living room singing every single word of "Let it go" with feeling and reckless abandonment!! Along with every other kid in the country, She got "Frozenitis! My mind immediately started racing and I thought "I HAVE TO AFRICANIZE THIS!!! But it needed to have a unique twist. How cool would it be to actually have kids performing this? Seeing as they are the the biggest fans! So I called up my friend Masa Fukuda who just happens to have a 140 strong choir of the most incredible singing kids and asked if he was willing to collab on my crazy idea of doing an africanized version of frozen. awhile back, I had heard a young girl named Lexi Walker sing at a local event, and WOW, she just blew me away! I knew she would be the perfect person to sing lead on this song!! Masa is a machine!!! By the next day, he had already rounded up some choir members, produced the music, and recorded the choir in his studio. All within 2 days!!! The singing ability, discipline, and professionalism of the kids was just astounding to me! The video shoot was amazing and even though it was SO cold you couldn't feel your toes, the kids were amazing and so patient! Red coral is the literal foundation of many Mediterranean ecosystems, and provides critical habitat for fish and other marine life. Harvesting by humans, pollution, ocean acidification, and warming waters all threaten the coral, which is now endangered. Efforts are underway to help preserve it, with some jewelry companies refusing to sell coral products, and the Catalan government will enact a decade-long moratorium on fishing starting in 2018. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world's premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. Check out Coral World Ocean Park. Alright so, this isn't exactly an off the beaten path destination, but hear me out. Coral World has a number of great exhibits, including their observation tower which is a tower that goes below the water so that you can see the fish in their natural habitat in the bay area. It's a very cool concept. On top of that, you can actually take part in a number of activities within Ocean World like animal encounters and Sea Trek. Sea Trek is an activity that places a helmet on your head and allows you to dive 30 feet below the ocean without ever learning to scuba dive. You get to experience this whole new world with fishes and who knows what else! It can be a surprise every time you Sea Trek. This was my first time ever doing Sea Trek and I am so glad that I got to do it in St. Thomas' Coral World Ocean Park in the US Virgin Islands. The waters in St. Thomas are just so beautiful and crystal clear, it made it that much more of an enjoyable experience. Coral World is also located next to Coki Beach, which is lovely albeit sometimes crowded. The instructor and scuba diver guide were both incredibly nice and made the Sea Trek excursion relaxing and safe. I cannot recommend this activity enough. My only complaint is that it should have lasted longer! ❱❱ FRIENDS ❰❰ Karla: https://youtube.com/whatwouldkarlasay MORE OF ME: http://redromina.com FIND ME: @redromina on instagram/twitter/facebook SUPPORT: https://redromina.com/explorers/ MY EQUIPMENT: https://kit.com/redromina STICKERS: http://redrominastickers.com AMAZON STORE: http://amzn.to/2tK9rYK THANKS: To my patrons for making this video possible. http://patreon.com/redromina HELLO! Diving the Great Barrier Reef | JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD

08:25
Jonathan visits the largest reef system in the world: the famous Great Barrier Reef of Australia. In addition to going diving, he visits the reef as non-divers often do—by submarine, helicopter and even in a bubble helmet! Along the way he meets some amazing animals such as a friendly sea turtle and a giant wrasse! This is an HD upload of a previously released season 3 segment. ********************************************************************** If you like Jonathan Bird's Blue World, don't forget to subscribe! You can join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/BlueWorldTV Twitter https://twitter.com/BlueWorld_TV Instagram @blueworldtv Web: http://www.blueworldTV.com ********************************************************************** The Great Barrier Reef. It's probably the most famous reef in the world, and the largest. It's not just visible from the air, but from space. Cairns is a city in Queensland, the northeast state of Australia. The Great Barrier Reef runs 1600 miles along the coast of Queensland. Its made up of millions of interconnected coral heads, forming the largest living structure made by living organisms! To see the whole thing, you need to get pretty high up. This satellite image was made from 400 feet above the ocean. You can see the reef just offshore. For my first encounter on the Great Barrier Reef, I'll be making the trip out on a big catamaran operated by Sunlover Cruises. The crew unties the boat and I enjoy the scenery as we head offshore. Ninety minutes later, I arrive at the Sunlover pontoon. I have never seen a dive operation like this before. The boat is huge, but we don't dive from the boat. Instead we dock at this massive pontoon—sort of like a floating dive shop—and spend the day right next to the reef in a protected spot. Pure luxury! A lot of people who don't dive love to come out and get a first hand look at the reef here. The water is clear and it's not too deep. But even people who don't like to get wet can see the reef. On a submarine! And for a diving experience unlike any other, anyone can try the Sea Walker experience. All you need is a 40 found helmet! I walk down the stairs into the water and the staff outfits me with the strangest piece of dive gear I have ever used. With no fins on, I just walk out to a massive school of fish. My hair doesn't even get wet! This is incredible! They’ve got about a thousand fish around here. I feel like Doctor Sylvia Earle – deep sea diver. This is a very different way to go scuba diving, and this just goes to show you if you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t want to wear a regulator, and maybe you can’t even swim that well, you can do this! It’s just like walking. You know I’ve had a lot of experiences underwater, and this is definitely one of the most unique! To demonstrate how this helmet works, I have an ordinary water glass, which obviously is full of water, but if I turn it upside down, I can fill it with air. (Fills it with air) And now you can see that it keeps the air in, but if you turn it right side up – so we don’t want to turn this right side up. I pose for a picture, because you never know when you're going to get to do this again! Next I meet Vance Fahey who will be my divemaster for a scuba dive on the reef today. Not only do I have a nice easy staircase to walk right down into the water, but a platform for putting on my fins. I can get used to this! On the platform is a group of new divers getting their first taste of the underwater world. At last I head out onto the reef to explore. I see many types of hard corals, beautiful pastel colored soft corals, and lots of fan coral. Near the reef, I find one of the largest Giant Clams I have ever seen. I can't imagine how much this clam must weigh. The mantle gets its bright colors from imbedded symbiotic algae that harvest the sun's rays for energy. I find a huge crack in the reef and have a little fun swimming through it. On the other end, I'm greeted by a sea turtle. She comes right over. There are lots of divers around this reef and this turtle knows that the divers won't hurt her. Once she has decided that I'm not doing anything terribly interesting, she goes back to looking for her favorite sponges to eat. I turn and head back towards the platform across the shallow reef. At the platform I'm greeted by a friendly Mauri Wrasse. This monster of a fish reaches both the length and the weight of a motorcycle. I'm just glad they prefer to eat crustaceans and mollusks--not divers! I think I've made a new friend!

The sea we've hardly seen: Melissa Garren at TEDxMonterey

11:41
Melissa is interested in the many ways that microscopic organisms support the health and vitality of our oceans. Although invisible to the naked eye, there are five million bacteria and fifty million viruses in an average teaspoon of clean seawater. These unseen communities are the masterminds behind the beautiful blue, vibrant, productive oceans we can see with our naked eyes. Much of her work to date has focused on the ways in which coastal pollution disturbs these healthy microbial processes, particularly on coral reefs, with the aim of finding more sustainable solutions for land and coastal water use practices. She is currently delving deeper into coral-microbe interactions by studying the ways humans can influence individual pathogen behavior. As a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she is applying cutting edge microfluidic technologies to understand how and why microbial diseases are infecting so many corals around the globe. By combining tools from engineering and biophysics, she is able to study coral disease at the scale on which it actually occurs: the microscale. She ultimately hopes to work at the interface of research and policy by facilitating the integration of microbial processes into conservation planning. Melissa holds a B.S. in molecular biology from Yale University and both an M.S. and a Ph.D. in marine biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Aircraft carrier sunk in WWII discovered at bottom of Coral Sea

01:23
An expedition crew has made a historic discovery in the Coral Sea: a U.S. aircraft carrier sunk after a four-day battle against Japanese forces in World War II. Two miles below the surface of the Coral Sea, a long lost aircraft carrier has been found. An expedition crew on board the research vessel Petrel discovered the wreckage of the USS Lexington on Sunday, shining new light on "Lady Lex" for the first time in 76 years. Robert Kraft is the director of subsea operations for the vessel's owner, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. (SOUNDBITE) (English) ROBERT KRAFT, DIRECTOR OF SUBSEA OPERATIONS FOR PAUL ALLEN, SAYING: "She is an iconic aircraft carrier, one of the very first, she's CV-2." Images from the expedition revealed a ship in good condition. Cannons sit largely intact while fixed-wing aircraft rest on the seafloor. The Lexington was scuttled in May 1942 after suffering damage from the Japanese in one of the first carrier versus carrier battles in history... the Battle of the Coral Sea... in which 216 crew members were killed. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PAUL MAYER, R/V PETREL PILOT, SAYING: "Getting out here, this is the last piece of the puzzle." Paul Mayer pilots the underwater vehicle used to find the wreckage. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PAUL MAYER, R/V PETREL PILOT, SAYING: "For me personally, I feel a bit of relief, then I look forward to the next part of it, which is exploring the wreck. Then very soon after that, I look forward to going for the next one." The next one... where ever it may be. Bizarre Underwater Discoveries

06:17
From amazing art to a mysterious train, these are 13 of the most bizarre underwater discoveries. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 10. The Cancun Underwater Museum has over 500 underwater sculptures dedicated to the Art of Conservation. The unique attraction offers divers a spectacular view of the statues that can be seen from a glass bottom boat. The museum began its venture in Cancun in 2009 and was completed in 2013. Each figure was made from a PH neutral cement, coral, seaweed and algae. The reason for this is to help benefit and protect coral reefs. Coral reefs can be created from sunken ships that fall to the bottom of the ocean floor. Creating statues are used to help save the ocean by creating a new way to grow coral reefs. 9. MS Zenobia was a Swedish ferry boat that sank on her maiden voyage in 1980 near Larnaca, Cyprus. After passing through the Strait of Gibraltar in route to Athens Greece the captain began to notice problems associated with steering. Once they arrived at Larnaca, the problem occurred again and the computerized pumping system was forcing additional water into the adjacent ballast tanks because of a software error. A few days after the ferry sank and sank in Larnaca Bay. Now it is a favorite dive site for visitors in Cyprus. 8. From land, the swimming whole Angelita looks like an average swimming hole. It is located in the Yucatan in Mexico. Divers have to plunge down to nearly 100 feet underwater to see the river. The “Underwater River,” is a cenote that is just an optical illusion produced by a cloud of hydrogen sulfide intermingling with the surrounding saltwater. 7. USS Oriskany is nicknamed the “Mighty O”. Was one of the small amount of Essex-class aircraft carriers finished only after World War II for the United States Navy. The ship was called for the Battle of Oriskany through the Revolutionary War. The aircraft carrier saw years of combat through both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars before the carrier was purposely sunk to become part of the world's largest artificial coral reef. 6. Several miles off New Jersey’s coast there lie an unanticipated site below the ocean’s surface. Two trains were found in 1985 but no one knows for sure how they got there. The most excepted theory behind how the locomotives got there is that in the 1850's the trains were being transported from the place they were built to their new home which was likely a rail yard. Because the locomotives were small, they could have been pushed overboard into the sea. Now the trains give an interesting spot for divers. 5. Yonaguni Monument is located off the coast of the Ryukyu Islands, in Japan. The monument is connected to a large rock mass in the ocean and believe to have been deposited over 20 million years ago. The main monument is a rectangular formation which measures 490 by 130 ft. The rock formation is made out of moderate to very fine sandstones and mudstones. Scientist who have studied the formation have concluded that some of the features could be manmade. One scientist believes that the site could be fragments of the legendary lost continent of Mu. 4. The SS President Coolidge was an ocean liner from the U.S. The large ship saw its nautical days finish after yielding to mines near the large military base on Espiritu Santo. Now the ship is used as a dive site. Divers can see a mostly intact cruise liner and a military ship. They can swim through numerous parts of the ship. There are guns, cannons, Jeeps, a stunning statue of "The Lady", chandeliers, and a mosaic tile fountain. Coral grows around the ocean liner where the divers can view sea creatures such as reef fish, barracuda, sea turtles and moray eels. 3. The Titanic, was the world’s largest cruise ship sank on her maiden voyage on April in 1912. The ship was touted as “unsinkable” and was supposed to be one of the safest ships ever built in history. She collided with an iceberg, and nearly half of the passengers lost their lives due to the inadequate supply of life boats on board. 2. The Lion City is a real life Atlantis located in China. The city was purposely flooded to make way for a build hydroelectric power station in 1959. Unfortunately, the city was forgotten but remains largely intact for being underwater for fifty years. Currently, there are plans in the works for divers because they like to use the metropolis to use as a tourist site. 1. SS Thistlegorm merchant ship that was sunk during World War II in the Red Sea. She set to sell for Alexandria, Egypt when two bombs were dropped on her from above. The bombs struck the stern of the ship, and it quickly sank. The ship and holds everything from vehicles, motorcycles, ammunition and other weaponry. Now the SS Thistlegorm is used as a recreational diving site.

Best Deep Sea Fishing Of Our Lives!- Sailing SV Delos Ep. 92

19:03
Sailing to Madagascar, woooo hooo!!!! We leave the amazing Chagos Archipelago and set sail for Madagascar about 1,500 miles away. Just over a week into the passage we pass through an area of shallows known of the Mascarene Plateau. It's an interesting place because in the middle of the Indian Ocean the depth rises from 2,000 meters to 20 meters. In some places it's even boat smashing coral reefs so we need to be extra careful with our navigation. In fact the Team Vestas Volvo Ocean Race boat wrecked very close to here. As we pick our way through the shallow spots the fish alarm starts hitting BIG! We're talking multiple hits with Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo. We're pulling them in faster than we can filet them. It's by far the best fishing day we've had in our lives! We finish the day off with an incredible Sushi dinner courtesy of Babs mad cooking skills. This is our story, a story of three souls sailing around the world. It is a story about sailing, but it's also a story about the fantastic people we meet and amazing places we see. It's a story of people living their lives in an alternate way, in close connection with the beautiful people and amazing planet that we call home. In Malaysia there is an island known for more sea turtles than virtually anywhere on Earth. Jonathan visits this amazing ecosystem to learn about the life cycle of sea turtles. He is surprised to discover an amazingly complex and competitive environment. You can join us on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/BlueWorldTV Twitter https://twitter.com/BlueWorld_TV Instagram @blueworldtv Web: http://www.blueworldTV.com ********************************************************************** We head out towards the reefs of Sipadan island. This island is so small that you can walk all the way around it on the beach in an hour. Yet, it has a huge population of sea turtles. As the school of fish swims away, I spot my first sea turtle—a Green sea turtle swimming over the reef. It wasn’t hard because they’re everywhere. Some are swimming around, while others are napping on and in the reef. Sea turtles actually sleep underwater while holding their breath. A sea turtle can easily hold its breath over an hour! A few hundred feet away, I find a Hawksbill sea turtle munching on the reef. She is plucking out tasty sponges and invertebrates that hide in the coral, rather than eat the coral itself. It takes a tough stomach to digest this stuff. As we circle the island, I can see the tracks left in the sand by females that have climbed the beach to lay their eggs. It all starts when a male, identified by his long tail, catches up with a cooperative female and courts her. From the surface, I see the action and I prepare to film it. The mating has begun, and I quietly approach to film the action. Mating is not easy for the female sea turtle. She must swim—and rise to breathe—for both of them. The male's long tail holds the female and fertilizes the eggs, while claws on his front flippers give him the ability to grasp the female's shell. The commotion doesn't go unnoticed by other males in the area. They flock to the mating pair, which have drifted away from the reef. Eventually, no less than four additional male turtles arrive to challenge the suitor. They all try the same techniques and it is starting to wear him down. Meanwhile the female is near exhaustion. The male is only struggling to hold on….the female is struggling to survive. Hours later, the male has outlasted his rivals. He fertilizes the female's eggs and with luck his genes will continue on. As if her job weren't hard enough already, the female now faces another tremendous task--to lay the eggs—but it must wait until nightfall. After the sun sets, I head to the beach in total darkness. The females come ashore and lay their eggs in the sand. I have found a turtle hauling herself out of the water, painstakingly clawing her way up the beach to high ground. Although sea turtles live their entire lives in the ocean, they lay their eggs in a nest on the beach. After the sea turtle reaches an area well above the high tide line, she begins to throw sand around to create a pit. She's out of her element and vulnerable. The slightest sound or light would frighten her back into the water. She must stop frequently to catch her breath. Her crushing weight on land literally asphyxiates her. She begins to dig a hole about 3 feet deep with her rear flippers. The hole doesn't just protect the eggs from predators. The sex of the baby turtles is a function of the incubation temperature. A shallow nest baking in the sun will be too warm and all the babies will be female. A deep one will be too cold and the babies will all be male. Digging to the right depth insures a good mix of males and females. At last she begins to lay as many as 100 squishy eggs about the size of ping pong balls into the nest. In 2 months, these eggs will hatch and the baby turtles will emerge. After she has finished laying her eggs, she carefully fills in the hole. Then she cleverly disguises the exact location of the nest by flinging some sand around. After two hours of effort, she plods her way laboriously back to the sea, completely exhausted. Two months later, newly hatched sea turtles race to the sea. Each baby turtle must rush past a gauntlet of predators from land, sky and sea to reach the open ocean. Odds are, only one of these baby sea turtles will survive. On their journey, the sea turtles must fight their way through the surf, swim across the shallows and then make their way to the open ocean, away from predators on the reef. They won’t return to their home on the reef until they are large enough to be safe—about the size of a dinner plate. It’s a long and perilous journey but if this sea turtle survives, it may go on to live over a hundred years.

Craziest Things Found By Airport Security

05:19
Crazy illegal items, weapons and creatures withheld at airport security Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: For any of us that have flown in an airplane, we know that air travel is one of the biggest headaches known to man. In addition to the extraordinarily high ticket prices, most of us also have to pay a luggage fee, along with convenient upgrades, plus the overpriced airport food. And if you want to check a bag, you’re confined to numerous rules and restrictions to what you can and can’t bring. Of course, with all of the recent terrorist attacks and September 11th, many are skittish about the intentions of other passengers, so the Transportation Security Administration was created in 2001 in order to help secure the airways and ports in the United States. But despite the presence of the TSA, people will still try to smuggle in odd things that are not limited to, but including drugs, animals, bugs, plants, and more. For example, a woman was stopped in an airport in Melbourne when it was noticed that she was making strange and watery noises. Security then gave her a more detailed pat down and discovered that she have over 51 different kinds of exotic and tropical fish under her clothes in 15 little bags, stored in pockets. If that wasn’t bizarre enough, a total of eighteen severed heads were discovered in shipment at O’Hare in Chicago, which of course made the media go crazy with the headlines. It was later discovered that the heads were in the process of a legitimate shipment between medical facilities in Rome and Chicago. Talk about people losing their head over something that ended up being legitimate! While you’re on vacation, of course there is always that one souvenir that you can’t resist bringing home with you. One traveler was out scuba diving and discovered a coral-covered cannonball in the midst of an 18th century shipwreck. Even though the traveler’s intentions were purely innocent, the airport had to shut down and be evacuated, since cannonballs are considered to be explosives. Then of course people just have to fly with their animals and plants. One man was discovered to have brought 30 dead snakes that were venomous, from his trip to South Korea. Was he trying to bring home a souvenir? Or needed supplies to create a deadly poison? Then a woman was discovered to have packed a (sedated) 2 month old tiger cub in her suitcase. She was arrested and the cub was taken to a sanctuary for tigers. Speaking of animals, a man was also stopped in Los Angeles after an exotic bird flew from his suitcase. He also had 50 rare orchids as well as hid two monkeys in his pants. And of course, people will try to smuggle drugs in. One guy actually had a real broken legs and managed to create a cast made from eleven pounds of cocaine. He might have been able to have gotten away with it if it wasn’t for the additional cocaine that was found in his bag. --------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheRichest.org Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheRichest_Com Instagram: http://instagram.com/therichest --------------------------------------------------------------- Featuring: Dead Snakes 18 Severed Heads Cannonball Wheel of Pain 200 Tarantulas Tiger cub Cocaine cast Monkeys in man’s underwear Lipstick Stun Gun 51 Tropical fish --------------------------------------------------------------- Music Track: Automation --------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.therichest.com/

This is an audio version of the Wikipedia Article: Battle of the Coral Sea Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago. The battle is historically significant as the first action in which aircraft carriers engaged each other, as well as the first in which neither side's ships sighted nor fired directly upon the other. In an attempt to strengthen their defensive position in the South Pacific, the Japanese decided to invade and occupy Port Moresby (in New Guinea) and Tulagi (in the southeastern Solomon Islands). The plan to accomplish this was called Operation MO, and involved several major units of Japan's Combined Fleet. These included two fleet carriers and a light carrier to provide air cover for the invasion forces. It was under the overall command of Japanese Admiral Shigeyoshi Inoue. The U.S. learned of the Japanese plan through signals intelligence, and sent two United States Navy carrier task forces and a joint Australian-U.S. cruiser force to oppose the offensive. These were under the overall command of U.S. Admiral Frank J. Fletcher. On 3–4 May, Japanese forces successfully invaded and occupied Tulagi, although several of their supporting warships were sunk or damaged in surprise attacks by aircraft from the U.S. fleet carrier Yorktown. Now aware of the presence of U.S. carriers in the area, the Japanese fleet carriers advanced towards the Coral Sea with the intention of locating and destroying the Allied naval forces. Beginning on 7 May, the carrier forces from the two sides engaged in airstrikes over two consecutive days. On the first day, the U.S. sank the Japanese light carrier Shōhō; meanwhile, the Japanese sank a U.S. destroyer and heavily damaged a fleet oiler (which was later scuttled). The next day, the Japanese fleet carrier Shōkaku was heavily damaged, the U.S. fleet carrier Lexington critically damaged (and later scuttled), and Yorktown damaged. With both sides having suffered heavy losses in aircraft and carriers damaged or sunk, the two forces disengaged and retired from the battle area. Because of the loss of carrier air cover, Inoue recalled the Port Moresby invasion fleet, intending to try again later. Although a tactical victory for the Japanese in terms of ships sunk, the battle would prove to be a strategic victory for the Allies for several reasons. The battle marked the first time since the start of the war that a major Japanese advance had been checked by the Allies. More importantly, the Japanese fleet carriers Shōkaku and Zuikaku—the former damaged and the latter with a depleted aircraft complement—were unable to participate in the Battle of Midway the following month, while Yorktown did participate, ensuring a rough parity in aircraft between the two adversaries and contributing significantly to the U.S. victory in that battle. The severe losses in carriers at Midway prevented the Japanese from reattempting to invade Port Moresby from the ocean and helped prompt their ill-fated land offensive over the Kokoda trail. Two months later, the Allies took advantage of Japan's resulting strategic vulnerability in the South Pacific and launched the Guadalcanal Campaign; this, along with the New Guinea Campaign, eventually broke Japanese defenses in the South Pacific and was a significant contributing factor to Japan's ultimate surrender in World War II.

Sea Urchins Pull Themselves Inside Out to be Reborn | Deep Look

03:23
Conceived in the open sea, tiny spaceship-shaped sea urchin larvae search the vast ocean to find a home. After this incredible odyssey, they undergo one of the most remarkable transformations in nature. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Get a new perspective on our place in the universe. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * Every summer, millions of people head to the coast to soak up the sun and play in the waves. But they aren’t alone. Just beyond the crashing surf, hundreds of millions of tiny sea urchin larvae are also floating around, preparing for one of the most dramatic transformations in the animal kingdom. Scientists along the Pacific coast are investigating how these microscopic ocean drifters, which look like tiny spaceships, find their way back home to the shoreline, where they attach themselves, grow into spiny creatures and live out a slow-moving life that often exceeds 100 years.“These sorts of studies are absolutely crucial if we want to not only maintain healthy fisheries but indeed a healthy ocean,” says Jason Hodin, a research scientist at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Laboratories. http://staff.washington.edu/hodin/ http://depts.washington.edu/fhl/ Sea urchins reproduce by sending clouds of eggs and sperm into the water. Millions of larvae are formed, but only a handful make it back to the shoreline to grow into adults. --- What are sea urchins? Sea urchins are spiny invertebrate animals. Adult sea urchins are globe-shaped and show five-point radial symmetry. They move using a system of tube feet. Sea urchins belong to the phylum Echinodermata along with their relatives the sea stars (starfish), sand dollars and sea slugs. --- What do sea urchins eat? Sea urchins eat algae and can reduce kelp forests to barrens if their numbers grow too high. A sea urchin’s mouth, referred to as Aristotle’s lantern, is on the underside and has five sharp teeth. The urchin uses the tube feet to move the food to its mouth. --- How do sea urchins reproduce? Male sea urchins release clouds of sperm and females release huge numbers of eggs directly into the ocean water. The gametes meet and the sperm fertilize the eggs. The fertilized eggs grow into free-swimming embryos which themselves develop into larvae called plutei. The plutei swim through the ocean as plankton until they drop to the seafloor and metamorphosize into the globe-shaped adult urchins. ---+ Read the entire article on KQED Science: https://ww2.kqed.org/science/2016/08/23/sea-urchins-pull-themselves-inside-out-to-be-reborn/ ---+ For more information: Marine Larvae Video Resource http://marinedevelopmentresource.stanford.edu/ ---+ More Great Deep Look episodes: From Drifter to Dynamo: The Story of Plankton | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUvJ5ANH86I Pygmy Seahorses: Masters of Camouflage | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3CtGoqz3ww The Fantastic Fur of Sea Otters | Deep Look https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zxqg_um1TXI ---+ See some great videos and documentaries from PBS Digital Studios! The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (From "Yellow Submarine")

02:12
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Revolver with the digital release of the video for “Eleanor Rigby” - revisit the album now: http://smarturl.it/thebeatlesrevolver Released as a double A-side with the song "Yellow Submarine in August 1966, Eleanor Rigby marked a giant leap forward in the way that The Beatles thought about their art, following their exploration of new and more complex musical ideas such as “Day Tripper” and “Paperback Writer”. Written and performed by Paul McCartney as part of the Revolver sessions, this features a string composition from George Martin that helped to change the way that people considered “pop music”. The film is a sequence originally used in the movie Yellow Submarine", released in July 1968. With it’s surreal, ground-breaking visuals it both brought a new concept of creating a visual video to accompany a song and also ushered in a new style of animation which helped to inspire Terry Gilliam’s animations for the TV comedy series, Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Hotel Thief at Coral Beach Resort & Suites 1105 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577

09:58
I have been thinking about this for awhile. In July of 2013 my family and I stayed at Coral Beach Resort & Suites 1105 South Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. While there the housekeeper (thief) went through our room. I caught all this on video. I set the camera up 1 - because I don't trust anyone and 2 - we saw her come out of our room 10 minutes earlier with nothing. No broom, mop or anything but she said she was cleaning. So below is a copy and paste of the review I put on tripadvisor and the video. In the video you will see her going through the drawers and the refrigerator. Going through our prescription medication that was on top of the refrigerator. You can hear her (turn up the volume) when she goes on the right side of the video out of frame unzipping my wife's purse and luggage. When she goes off the left side of the frame you can hear her going through my pants that were on the bed. You can hear my keys rattle. And you can hear her going my bags. Around the 6:30 mark she messes with the medication and around the 8:45 mark she even opened the safe. She goes through everything and something multiple times. UPDATE: While uploading the video I searched and found the case record. I must say I was WRONG. The housekeeper was NOT ARRESTED. This is what the officer put at the bottom for the incident paperwork: (THE HOTEL STAFF IS TAKING CARE OF THIS INCIDENT INTERNALLY. AT THIS TIME I DO NOT PLAN TO PRESS CHARGES ON THE OFFENDER SINCE NOTHING WAS TAKEN.) So that really makes me mad. I thought that she had been charged because when the officer left us that is what he said he was going to do. Guess he changed his mind. Coral Beach Resort & Suites This place is a rip off. My family (Wife, 13 yr old daughter, 5 yr old daughter, mother in law, father in law, brother in law, sister in law, nephew and myself) stayed here last year. We rented 3 rooms for 8 days. The second day their my father in law caught one of the cleaning crew coming out of my room with no equipment. He told me and being former loss prevention and a current fire/medic. I went to check it out. We were at the pool so everything we own was in the room except the room key. When I arrives at the room I noticed that my wallet had been moved. I have real bad OCD and that is what kinda helps me as a medic because I notice EVERYTHING but it also is a bad thing because I notice the little things that are big to me but no one else. Knowing what I know it would have been their word verses mine. So I set up a hidden camera and went back down to the pool for 30 mins. When I came back and watched the video I caught the maid going through my wallet, all our suitcases, my wife's purse, all our prescription medication (Pain medications, Muscle relaxers, and various other medications 15 or so) it cost me around $250.00 to replace all the medications, the officer said it would be the safe thing because she touched the medications when she went through them.(doctor visit to get the refills and the money to buy the medications), the closet, the dresser drawers where we had our kids clothes, the safe and the refrigerator. I notified the resort and asked for them to call the police. The manager said she wanted to see the video. I told her no that we needed to call the police. She stood there for a second and said that they had been called. OK stand back and think about this. I called for the manager to come to my room, I did not tell anyone why. She had not let the room or called anyone on a walkie. How had the police been called? So I picked up the phone and call Law enforcement myself. She asked again may I see the video. I told her when law enforcement arrived I would show everyone. The officer arrived and I told him what had happened and showed him the video of the housekeeper going through everything (8 and a half minutes). He asked the manager where the lady was and she told him. He had the manger stop her from cleaning a room and go to the managers office and wait there. The officer went and spoke to the house keeper and then she was fired and arrested. Only thing the manager said to me was that she was sorry I had to call the police. The hotel refused to do anything for us. No refund, no discount, no free drink not even I'm sorry, Nothing! I was told that if I wanted to leave that they refund the remaining amount they we had paid with out charging us the cancellation fee. Well we were going to try to stay. So I told the manager no one was to enter and of our rooms. We would clean our own rooms. For 2 days they did what we asked but the third day they were in our room again. This place made us feel like we were the problem and NOT THE VICTIM!!! And so you know this is true the Myrtle Beach PD officer was McIntyre. And the cases number is 13-007821. So do NOT stay here. Stayed July 2013, traveled with family

Week 38: Mounting corals: epoxy, super glue, and lighting tweaks | 52 Weeks of Reefing #BRS160

14:17
http://brs.li/BRS160_Week38 Today on Week 38 of BRStv's 52 Weeks of Reefing, we are showing you our favorite ways to mount corals and frags in your tank! Generally there are three main methods that we use when mounting frags: Gel Bubble, Air Water Gel Hybrid, and Epoxy Hybrid Gel Bubble: Super glue has a tendency to form a skin underwater. We use this to our advantage by squeezing a metal super glue tube out underwater, forming a glue bubble. This bubble can be gently grabbed under water, and pressed onto your rock work. Then, it's only a matter of placing your coral into the bubble and allowing it to cure. Air Water Gel Hybrid: One of the most popular methods of coral mounting, this involves simply applying a blob of super glue onto the mounting surface of your coral, and then pressing it onto your rock work. Giving the coral a quick twist onto the rock surface will break the super glue skin, exposing uncured glue and forming a bond to the rock. Epoxy Hybrid: This method requires the use of both epoxy and super glue. Essentially you apply a dab of super glue on each side of a ball of epoxy, sandwiching the epoxy between glue, coral, and rock. *Legal Stuff* The purpose and content of this video is to provide general information regarding the products and their applications as presented in the video.
