Kittinger, 1960 - The Man Who Fell From Space
"I am at 103,000 feet, looking out over a very beautiful, beautiful world. As you look up, it is a hostile sky. As I sit here and wait, I have realized that man will never conquer space. We will learn to live with it, but we will never conquer it. I can see for over 400 miles. Beneath me I can see the clouds... looking through my mirror, the sky is absolutely black. Devoid of anything. I can see the beautiful blue of the sky and above that it goes into a deep, deep, dark, indescribable blue which no artist could ever capture. It's fantastic." — Joseph Kittinger, Radio communication, August 16, 1960 He staggered to the edge of the gondola — due to the decrease in gravity at that height, he actually weighed three pounds less than he had on the ground — and positioned himself with the toes of his boots protruding slightly beyond the edge of the floor piece, then took a deep breath of pure oxygen and held it. A sign printed at the base of the door, inches below his toes, read "HIGHEST STEP IN THE WORLD". He turned and pushed the button that activated all twelve cameras simultaneously; even inside his helmet he could plainly hear the clicking whir of all the tiny motors. Then he tried to grasp the familiar lanyard with his swollen, ice-cold right hand, exposed as it was to the vacuum of space from the glove malfunction, and realized immediately that there was no way he could grip the lanyard, much less pull it. He let it drop. He would have to trust his weight to pull it and arm the timing knob on the harness as he fell. Kittinger fell forward as he had done on the two previous flights, but it was different this time. This time he was convinced he was going to die. He was out. He was floating. It was like before: no rush of wind, no sensation of falling, no perception of movement at all. He hung suspended in this calm universe. His pulse was 156 beats per minute and he had not taken a breath since leaving the gondola — not even his own respiration intruded on the astonishing emptiness. It was all impossibly beautiful. (the text above adapted is adapted from "The Pre-Astronauts: Manned Ballooning on the Threshold of Space" by Craig Ryan) A beautiful video done by "Area51" of one of the most dramatic singular moments of personal courage in the history of our species. It was created before the days of YouTube (it was not done by me, I merely posted a good quality copy of it that I had downloaded in the early 2000s, I don't even know who "Area51" is...) and set to U.N.K.L.E. f/ Moby's track "In A State / God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters" captures the moment better than any words anyone could possibly write (note: near as I know that track is only available on the UK release of their Self Defence box set). Full screen if you can, and crank the volume (similarly, if you can)! Besides the monologue, taken from the movie "Alive" about the 1972 crash of a Fairchild FH-227D in the Andes, I am deeply touched by the film looking across the horizon... where the blue of the Earth's atmophere is very obviously below him. Such stark poetry. In the audio, the quote is from the movie "Alive", 1993: "Many people come up to me and say that had they been there, they surely would have died. But it makes no sense, because until you're in a situation like that, you have no idea how you'd behave. To be confronted by solitude without decadence or a single material thing to prostitute it... elevates you to a sprititual plane, where I felt the presence of God. Now, there's the God they taught me about at school. And there is the God that's hidden by what surrounds us in this civilization. That's the God I met."

THE AGONIST - The Man Who Fell To Earth (Official Video) | Napalm Records
Order FIVE here: http://smarturl.it/5-NPR iTunes: http://smarturl.it/5-DL Montreal Metal – a seal of approval to be reckoned with: the perfect breeding ground for bands looking for a rather menacing wall of sound! Next to Despised Icon, Beneath The Massacre and Cryptopsy THE AGONIST seem to be designed to make it all the way to the top of the extreme metal scene with their fine-tuned mixture of melodic death metal and metalcore. “Five” makes the exceptional position of the Canadian fivepiece even clearer – as well as its goal to escape all things ordinary. Ever since singer Vicky Psarakis joined the group in 2014, THE AGONIST `s knack for touching melodies became much stronger (just give the lascivious ‘The raven eyes’ a whirl), and flirting with alternative rock turned into a habit. Still, there is enough palpable aggression in the air that discharges in technical death metal solos, beastly growls and massive breakdowns. THE AGONIST keep the throne of all things luscious, catchy yet indefinitely brutal!

The Man Who Fell To Earth with David Bowie soundtrack (an experiment)
This is just an experiment I did to amuse myself - not to be taken too seriously. The recent re-release of The Man Who Fell To Earth has gotten people talking again about the mythical lost Bowie soundtrack for the film. Whilst those recordings remain in the vaults, we can only speculate what it might have sounded like by listening to the instrumental tracks on 'Low'. As an experiment, I lined up 'Weeping Wall' with the opening scene of the film, starting it at the first frame that Bowie appears. I was intrigued to find it was the exact same duration as the opening music used in the film. Next I did some 'foley' work and searched for replacement sound effects to overlay on to the music to help 'sell' it as an authentic soundtrack; for example - footsteps, a steam train, birds, a running stream, the creaking fairground ride. I must have listened to a dozen belches before settling on the perfect one : ) The result was interesting to me in how it changed the mood of the film - so I thought I would share it here for anyone who is interested. From Hugo Wilcken's excellent book on Low: In December 1975, shortly after he’d signed off on Station to Station, Bowie was back at work on a soundtrack for The Man Who Fell to Earth—although ultimately it wasn’t used in the film, and remains to this day unreleased. If Station to Station laid down the artistic groundwork for Low, its actual genesis came in these soundtrack sessions. Various Low tracks are reported to have been recycled from this time—Brian Eno has said that “Weeping Wall” started life there, although Bowie himself claims that “the only hold-over from the proposed soundtrack that I actually used was the reverse bass part in ‘Subterraneans.’” He is perhaps not the most reliable witness to the lost weekend of 1975 (Bowie on Station to Station: “I know it was recorded in LA because I read it was”). Bowie worked with Paul Buckmaster (producer of his 1969 “Space Oddity” hit), who brought in a cello to accompany Bowie’s guitar, Bowie had the soundtrack with him during the Low sessions for work on “Subterraneans,” and at one stage played it to the musicians: “It was excellent,” recalled guitarist Ricky Gardiner, “quite unlike anything else he’s done.” Months later, Bowie sent Roeg a copy of Low, with a note that said: “This is what I wanted to do for the soundtrack.”

David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth – Chapter 1 – All Things Begin & End in Eternity - 2017
Complete film available now, only at: https://vimeo.com/nachosproductions https://vimeo.com/221740373 This is a film about a film - Nic Roeg's 1976 esoteric science fiction movie - The Man Who Fell to Earth. Roeg's film has beguiled and baffled audiences since it's release. It explores, often in abstraction and allegory, the themes of alienation, power, love, trust and betrayal. David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth is an attempt to partly explain the movie. And it is a look at the way the film came together and at Roeg’s working methods, and at the creative process itself. And because it is a film about the creative process, it was felt that it should also in itself, try to also be creative. It is quite widely known that Bowie and his music were greatly influenced by Roeg and the time he spent working on the film. And so David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth also tries to paint a small portrait of Bowie and his music during the era – from latter part of ’74 up to the January 1977 album, Low. Bowie also created music that was intended for the soundtrack to The Man Who Fell to Earth. Famously, it was never used and remains almost unheard to this day. However, parts of the unused music were later incorporated into his albums Station To Station and Low. And so, as part of the story telling in David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth, some of Bowie’s music from those albums is used with re-edits of scenes from the movie, worked in with the interviews and commentary. Whether or not David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth is actually successful in these endeavors, you may judge for yourself. At the very least it is an hour in the brilliant and highly enjoyable company and art of Nic Roeg, David Bowie and Candy Clark. ______________________________ Was Newton an alien? In the first TV interview where he talks about the movie, Bowie becomes visibly irritated when host Russel Harty describes Bowie's Thomas Jerome Newton character as an alien, and he almost chastises Harty for his presumptuousness; "…it's assumed he's an alien from outer space, but it may not necessarily be true". Yet on the surface at least, Newton is an alien, who has come to earth to transport water back to his own dying planet. And in interviews Roeg always refers to Newton as an alien. Whereas Bowie doesn't seem so certain about Newton’s origins, or his mission. In the 1992 The Man Who Fell To Earth commentary, Bowie says, "Newton knows he's going to be betrayed, it's very obvious, but he seemingly doesn't do very much about it. So he must be here for some other purpose". As Bowie points out, there are Christ-like parallels. We can hypothesize that Newton’s falling to earth without any evidence of a space ship, is a kind of Immaculate Conception. And he arrives apparently a very pure being, who helps humanity advance and only seeks for himself a way to help his people. What are we to think is the "other purpose" for him being here? Perhaps he came, like Christ to test human-kind? And then of course there is the betrayal. But in the end Newton wasn't born again. He becomes a ruined and lonely reflection of the contemporary culture of decadence and self-destruction. _______________________________ The majority of the footage used here is of course from The Man Who Fell To Earth. But in addition another approximately fifty video and audio sources were used. Fourteen partial David Bowie tracks were used, as re-imagined parts of the movie soundtrack, and also fairly gratuitously as excuses to just add some rocking tracks that had new or revised videos put together for them. All tracks and sources are listed in the credits at the end of the film. And listing them here would also be a kind of a spoiler - so let’s not do that! Like a lot of my video projects, this thing happened by accident. Whilst I was working on the video for Subterraneans, I decided that it would be good to have an accompanying video that compiled in a very simple way, all the relevant interviews with Bowie where he talks about the film. I imagined that at most, it would be a thing of about 15 or 20 minutes. However, as is usually the case with me, I went very deeply into it, and found a lot more material than I bargained for. It quickly became clear that here was a great story that needed to be told in film, and the thing just kept growing in size and in complexity. In the end I have been working on it consistently for the last 3 months and put in perhaps 700 hours of work. And now I feel that I’ve done almost everything I can with the project, and I am reasonably satisfied it has some value, and I feel okay about sharing it. Showing it today to a friend, who was seeing it for the first time, I saw myriad ways it could be improved. There is always more that one can do, but at some point the line has to be drawn. Hope you dig it! I don't own the rights, and I'm not making any money out of this etc. Just a fan making videos for other fans.

A Man Fell In A Hole - Bluefish TV
BluefishTV is now RightNow Media! For more videos like this, subscribe to our new channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/RightNowMediaInsider A modern parable, this insightful video illustration examines the life of a man searching through the false promises of other religions and finding his salvation in Christ. Have you ever found yourself stuck in a situation that you couldn't get out of? And not only that, but you didn't know how to get out of. When you need help, where do you turn? How do you get out? The culture believes that there are many paths in life we can take, but this video illustration demonstrates that none of them will ultimately help you out of your situation. This reminds me of the famous story about CS Lewis where he proclaimed the most distinguishing fact of Christianity. Here is a direct quote from Philip Yancey's, What's So Amazing About Grace? (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan Publishing House, 1997), p 45. During a British conference on comparative religions, experts from around the world debated what, if any, belief was unique to the Christian faith. They began eliminating possibilities. Incarnation? Other religions had different versions of gods' appearing in human form. Resurrection? Again, other religions had accounts of return from death. The debate went on for some time until CS Lewis wandered into the room. "What's the rumpus about?" he asked, and heard in reply that his colleagues were discussing Christianity's unique contribution among world religions. Lewis responded, "Oh, that's easy. It's grace." Grace makes Christianity unique from all other religions because it marks the stark difference in believing in a God that will come down into a hole and pull you out of your mess, verses a god that requires you to earn its approval. When we search for God, the Bible promises that we will find Him. The difference between Christianity and other religions can be explained by the words "Do" and "Done." Do -- All other world religions have to do with good works or good deeds. Reincarnation and Karma are major themes in world religions and they always point back to what you do with your life. Done -- Christianity points to what Jesus Christ has already done on the cross at Calvary. His sacrifice on the cross is what brings a Christian salvation. Jesus Christ is the only way to God, who comes down to meet us in our own messy lives, to build relationship with us and to save us from this life. We are free because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It's not our own righteousness that leads to salvation, but the free gift of grace. Man Who Fell To Earth 1976
What a place to fall. This movie was David Bowie's acting debut and how appropriate for Ziggy Stardust and Mr. Space Oddity. The only other flick I am aware that Bowie did was just as off-beat,I think it was called The Hunger. The premise is good: alien from water-starved planet comes to earth for its abundance to try to get water for his parched and dying home planet. Based on Walter Tevis' intriguing novel.

The Man Who Fell Through the Earth
The Man Who Fell Through the Earth Carolyn WELLS (1862 - 1942) A lawyer is leaving his office on the top floor of an office building. He sees the shadows of two men fighting through the clouded glass of an office door followed by a shot from the office across the hall. He goes to investigate. He finds no sign of either victim or assailant despite the fact that no one could have passed him in the hallway without being seen. A murder has been committed, that of the banker. Who is the murderer? A business associate, the banker's beautiful ward, or a mysterious woman who had been in the office earlier? And what part, if any, was played by the amnesia victim pulled from the river; a man who insists that his earliest memory is of falling through a hole in the earth? (Summary by Richard Kilmer) Genre(s): Crime & Mystery Fiction Language: English (FULL Audiobook)
Robert Boyle (US) - The Man Who Fell On Earth (World Première @ BIP Liège, Belgium)
World première of Robert Boyd's (US) triptych video installation The Man Who Fell to Earth, a poignant and forceful montage on the fall of regimes and men. INFOS: http://bip-liege.org/en The Cité Miroir will be one of the BIP2014 beacons, hosting an exhibition that will question the image of power and authority as they show and demonstrate their strength and rallying force. Between democracy and dictatorship, religious fervor and veneration for marketing, the masses and elected officials at all levels, echoes appear and interrogate various aspects of devotion, revealing the idolatrous power of a living being that has become an image, or of an image that has come to life, capable of capturing the multitude for better or for worse before thousands of watchful eyes. Empty seats ready to welcome hundreds of shareholders of large multinationals, rows of uniforms facing a speech by Barack Obama, Syria's cult of personality, dehumanising May 1st celebrations in North Korea, fanaticism and bewitchment in a religious community, totalitarian advertisement symbols, the fall of regimes and television media coverage of history, war dramatization: these diverse perspectives echo each other and distort and reverberate meaning and forms. These powerful images, which reveal disturbing similarities, regardless of the "camp" to which they belong, express the fascination caused by the aestheticization of power, its staging and its decadence better than words ever could.

The man who fell from space, 1967 (Astronaut Vladimir Komarov)
Soviet cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov. His spaceflight on Soyuz 1 made him the first Soviet cosmonaut to fly into outer space more than once, and he became the first human to die on a space mission—he was killed when the Soyuz 1 space capsule crashed after re-entry on April 24, 1967 due to a parachute failure. However, because he died when the capsule crashed into ground, he is not considered the first human fatality in outer space. The above photograph shows the charred remains of Komarov being looked over by Soviet officials during his open casket funeral. Only a chipped heel bone survived the crash.
