It’s not everyday you get dessert before the main course, but such was the case at the luncheon at The Jefferson Hotel in honor of Dominique Ansel celebrating his new book: The Secret Recipes: Unofrgettable Desserts from the World’s Most Celebrated Bakery hosted by Connie Milstein and Rachel Pearson. A Cronut is a croissant-doughnut pastry invented by Chef Dominique Ansel and trademarked by Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. “There was no magic formula or marketing strategy behind this croissant-doughnut hybrid. It was simply another creation. Glazed on the top, the pastry was filled with cream and sugared like a doughnut, but it had a laminated dough that was similar to-but not the same as-croissant dough. Crispy on the outside, with two layers within, it was a playful treat. Two months and ten recipes later, the Cronut pastry was born.” Dominique Ansel

After the day full of meetings I knew I have to go for something delicious. Luckily, close to my office is the Dominique Ansel Bakery which makes the trademarked CRONUT®. I already started my hunt for the best cronut in London when I visited the Dum Dum Donutterie. You can watch the video here: https://youtu.be/xI-FZ4Cjjvo?t=2m53s Dominique Ansel invented and later trademarked the cronut in New York in 2013. As a huge fan of desserts, I had to put this cronut through my critical judgment. 🙂 The bakery in London is very nice, and they do some impressive desserts. However, to lose some pounds (£). They do only one flavor of cronut every month, and the flavor in July was the strawberry jam and cassis. The CRONUT® costs £4.5 for takeaway and £5.2 eat-in. The cronut is super heavy, full of cream which gives you some confidence after spending £5.2. Where Dominique Ansel’s CRONUT® definitely stand out is the intense and delicious flavor. After the first bite, you instantly know that this is done by the pastry chef and you are craving for more. Well done. But is it the best cronut in London? I have some other places to visit until I am able to make the final judgment. So, stay tuned. Thank you for watching! The day has come! To review the original Cronut! The pastry that put Dominique Ansel on the map! Half croissant, half doughnut, whole party in my mouth! I finally decided to take my chances and try the Cronut pre-order. Server crashes and all, you will see what it takes to get your hands on a Cronut. During the process, I felt like a miniature poodle trying to jump through Dominique Ansel's little hoops, but I finally made it and my prize was little piece of Strawberry Rhubarb heaven. This is hopefully one of the last dessert videos I make this season, so watch me stuff my face full 'o pastries for the last time or until next time! Feel free to watch this video while you yourself are waiting for the server to crash on you during the next cornet pre-order Monday. Speaking of which, did I mention how to find the cornet pre-order page? Well, here it is! http://cronutpreorder.com/products-page/cronuts/cronut/ It starts Monday at 11 am EST (sharp...or until the server fails) If you really want to get your hands on a Cronut, plan at least 2 weeks in advance. I also would recommend waiting for the server to clear. I was most successful at about 12:30pm. Around an hour and a half after the Cronut page is available to order from (or not available to order from, as in my personal experience). BTW the flavor for May is Sweet Clementine and Ricotta.
