For low-volume designs it’s pretty clear that you want to use off-the-shelf components and minimize your NRE costs. But for high-volume the situation can change. Adding a dollar to a product really adds up quick when you make a million units. That pays for a lot of engineering time. So there’s several things you want to think about when you are designing for high-volume systems especially high-volume mechatronic systems. First you need to use the proper technologies. For the mechanics that means things like: injected molded plastic and sheet metal. For the electronics you want to be sure to leverage as many components that are used in high-volume things like the cellphone industry, and then you want to use sheet motors like DC motors. You also need to consider balance across the mechatronic system design. Everything from the power supply to the load needs to be carefully designed to work together so you don’t leave excess margin on the table. Excess margin means excess cost. Finally you want to look for opportunities to use clever algorithms to help you save cost. I call this trading atoms for bits. If you can take parts out of your design by doing something smart with the algorithms, you’re going to save yourself significant cost. Those trade-offs can be hard to make, but if you understand your system well you can find opportunities for significant cost reduction. Mercedes A-Class Production
Mercedes-Benz A-Class W176 Production. The new Mercedes-Benz compacts are produced in the flexible production network of the plants in Rastatt, Germany, and Kecskemét, Hungary, according to the standards of the Mercedes-Benz production system MPS. The high degree of flexibility is on the one hand due to the joint architecture of the new compacts, thanks to which all models at each location can be built in any order and volume. On the other hand, models produced at several locations serve as levers allowing the plants to breathe and to allocate units optimally in the production network, always according to market demand for individual models. Production of the B-Class started in both plants as the first product of the new generation (Rastatt: September 2011, Kecskemét: March 2012). The new A-Class has been built in Rastatt since July 2012. As the second product from Kecskemét, production of the CLA started in January 2013. Production of the compact SUV GLA, to be introduced to markets in 2014, will soon begin in Rastatt. In total, Daimler has invested about 2 billion euros over several years, of which (including 2013) 1.2 billion at the Rastatt core plant and 800 million euros to build the new plant in Kecskemét. The number of staff at Rastatt rose to a record value of more than 6,600 by the end of 2012, at Kecskemét to about 3,400. Further investments connected to the new generation of compact cars were made at the powertrain plants in Germany, with almost 400 million euros between 2012 and 2013 for components exclusively used in compact cars. Additional production capacities for the A-Class are now available with the contract manufacturing at Valmet Automotive, with planned output of more than 100,000 vehicles of the model series between 2013 and 2016. In addition, local production of the GLA for the Chinese market at BBAC (Beijing Benz Automotive Corporation, joint venture of Daimler and its Chinese partner BAIC) is planned in the future. Audi Smart Factory - Future of Audi Production
Audi Smart Factory P-Tech Day. Subscribe. Audi is making its production fit for the future with the smart factory. In this factory of the future, big data – the creation and intelligent connection of large volumes of data – will facilitate data‑driven and thus highly flexible and highly efficient manufacturing. A method of production in which Audi might no longer build its cars on an assembly line but according to a radically new, disruptive concept is modular assembly. In addition to this major project, Audi is pursuing many other exciting projects for the production of the future – from the application of virtual‑reality glasses to metal 3D printing. Modular assembly. The complexity of automobile production is increasing. New market needs, customer expectations and the legislative framework are increasingly requiring innovative technologies and differing vehicle versions. This means that the fixed timing of the assembly line is becoming less efficient. The more the number of derivatives and variants grows, the more difficult it becomes to master high complexity and integrate new routines into the rigid, sequential process. Audi intends to meet this challenge and to develop a completely new principle for it: modular assembly. With this method, small, separate workstations allow highly flexible working routines – in terms of both time and space. Between those workstations, driverless transport systems take over the transport of the car bodies as well as the parts required for production. A central computer precisely controls the driverless transport systems – it recognizes the needs of each individual station, thus ensuring a smooth workflow. Audi assumes that modular assembly will result in 20 percent better productivity than the assembly lines of today. It is now being applied for test purposes at the engine plant in Győr, Hungary, and application is planned in two further projects. At present, the key principles of this innovative production system are being worked out and tested by “arculus” – a startup company established a few months ago. The Technical Center for Production Assistance Systems. The new driverless transport systems required for modular assembly are being created in Audi’s “Technology Development Production Assistance Systems” department. This small department has developed two types of driverless vehicle: One of them moves under control by a computer, the other moves autonomously on a defined route. Three onboard laser scanners allow the driverless transport systems to orient themselves and to recognize and avoid potentially critical situations. Audi developed the navigation software itself. It is based on automotive software and automotive‑software development processes. The main task of the Technical Center for Production Assistance Systems is to work on new production technologies in early stages of their development. In addition to driverless transport systems, it is also working on four other projects. They comprise safe cooperation between humans and machines when working in the same space, assembly tables with assistance functions and two innovative robots: a flexible gripper arm and a special lightweight robot. The Audi Production Lab. The Audi Production Lab, abbreviated as P‑Lab, develops and supports innovative projects for the production process – often starting with the very first idea. The department currently has five permanent employees andhas already helped to bring innovations such as metal 3D printing, human‑robot cooperation, driverless transport systems and the use of augmented reality at Audi towards series application. The projects currently running in the P‑Lab include two big‑data projects. One of them focuses on the early recognition of mistakes in the placement of screws and bolts; the other examines the flow of components in the area of international logistics for the CKD plants (completely knocked down). Another major subject for the Audi Production Lab is data glasses. They can provide effective support for employees in production, for the planners and engineers in the factory of the future – with assisted reality, augmented reality and virtual reality. Toolmaking. Several future-oriented projects are running in Audi’s Toolmaking division. The structure of the new generation of press tools follows nature, with many parts made of aluminum and plastics. This reduces the weight of those tools, which until now has been up to 45 tons, by up to 20 percent and the energy required decreases by about ten percent. The result is enhanced precision in the forming of sheet‑metal parts. The press shop, where the tools are applied, uses the latest measuring technology. The goal is to develop a complete data chain for each sheet‑metal part. The data chain already begins with the suppliers of steel and aluminum. This is another way in which Audi is enhancing its precision.

How to Master Your Music in 5 Simple Steps
Please read the detailed steps below if you want to get the most out of this video- Especially in Section 4 :) 1) Have an Aim. In this case I am using mastering as a final chance to catch any mistakes, trying to sweeten the song slightly and also make sure it is loud enough. I have an aim at all times in the process - even if it's an experimental part, I still know that's what I am doing. At each stage I ask myself "What am I trying to achieve by using this VST? I also take time to get my head in the right place so that I feel creative and motivated to finish the project - Often overlooked but the most important step in my opinion! 2) Final Check and adding fades Automate the master fader (this is after the effects chain) to fade the start and end of the song. Checking - Listen from start to finish without tweaking anything. Listen for : Clicks, pops, cut breaths, clipping, bad edits, resonances (especially in the low mids), consonance, overly harsh "sss" in vocals, is everything perfectly in time etc? The MIX must be good for a good master. Mastering is not a quick fix for a bad mix. 3)Adjusting the tonal balance. This will help it sound good on all systems. Use reference track and compare to professional releases. If you hear that your balance is off you can use subtle EQ or go back to the mix to fix big problems. I like using Tonal Balance Tool to help me get in the right sort of area but I always set the final levels to taste. I am not paid to promote this plugin but Izotope did send me a copy to use without pressure of showing it in videos. The EQ's I like to use are - Custom Series EQ, TR5 EQual, Eiosis Earth for the high pass. 4) Trying any sweetening. Be careful here - we are not trying to FIX a problem, we are simply looking to give it that extra 1%. This could include saturation (Tape or Tube), Gentle stereo widening, Volume automation (macro dynamics), harmonic excitement and Bus compression. I would be very cautious if you are new to these effects, it's best to experiment with them but don't feel pressured to commit to them. In time, this practise will help you master these tools and before long you will feel in control and be able to use them to help your mastering. I demonstrate using the VBC to compress the mix. Many types of compressors can be used and multi band compressors are often used too. The aim here is the change the sound stage, "glue" things together and add some warmth. Immediately I was fooled by an increase in volume but after tweaking some dials it started to work. The threshold was adjusted until I could hear some gentle compression (I can't remember what the screen was reading but I try not to look at the screen. I kept a slow attack so that the snare wasn't being crushed, I adjusted the release to make it quicker so that it was more open and didn't feel heavy. Then I adjusted the High Pass Filter to make sure that the Kick and Bass were not being compressed (turned down). This final step really opened the song back up. Please listen to the compression again and hear how the bass becomes HUGE after I turn the HPF Dial on the right! The reality is that there are not many "go to settings" that work for all mastering situations. It's important to practise and get comfortable with the tools. 5)LOUDNESS- well sort of.. Mastering for online streaming makes life easier for us these days, we don't need to slam tracks super loud to be heard! When exporting, check what the sites are currently asking for, sometimes these details change but most are asking for a 24 bit Wav file. To facilitate the expansion of production capacities, SEMIKRON built a state-of-the-art production and office building with a gross usable surface area of some 12,000m². The 73,000m3 of enclosed space equates to the volume of approximately 125 terraced houses. The clean rooms built during the building project at the Nuremberg site guarantee the automated large-scale automated production of sintered products and meet the high requirements associated with the production environment. The technical installations are rather impressive: for example, the filters installed in the clean room ceiling filter and recirculate approximately 200,000m3 of air per hour (the equivalent of 10 million balloons). The air-treatment systems heat, cool, humidify and dehumidify 140,000m3 of air every hour, the same amount that a single person breathes in 40 years.

organic tapioca cultivation Tapioca belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. Tapioca grows and produces best under warm humid tropical conditions where rainfall is well distributed and fairly abundant. It can also be grown under irrigation where rainfall is low. Its outstanding characteristic in terms of moisture requirements is the ability to withstand fairly prolonged periods of drought. However, at the time of planting, there must be sufficient moisture for the plant to establish itself. The crop cannot withstand cold and is killed by frost. The crop grows well in well-drained laterite, gravelly and sandy loam soils. Heavy and rocky soils are less suitable because they restrict root development. The crop cannot survive waterlogged conditions and in such areas, it must be planted on mounds or ridges that permit drainage. The crop can also be gown on hill slopes and on wastelands of low fertility. The cassava plant has either red or green branches with blue spindles on them. The root of the green-branched variant requires treatment to remove linamarin, a cyanogenic glycoside occurring naturally in the plant, which otherwise may be converted into cyanide. Konzo (also called mantakassa) is a paralytic disease associated with several weeks of almost exclusive consumption of insufficiently processed bitter cassava. In the north and northeast of Brazil, traditional community-based production of tapioca is a by-product of manioc flour production from cassava roots. In this process, the manioc (after treatment to remove toxicity) is ground to a pulp with a small hand- or diesel-powered mill. This masa is then squeezed to dry it out. The wet masa is placed in a long woven tube called a tipiti. The top of the tube is secured while a large branch or lever is inserted into a loop at the bottom and used to stretch the entire implement vertically, squeezing a starch-rich liquid out through the weave and ends. This liquid is collected and the water allowed to evaporate, leaving behind a fine-grained tapioca powder similar in appearance to corn starch. Colored, translucent tapioca sticks Commercially, the starch is processed into several forms: hot soluble powder, meal, pre-cooked fine/coarse flakes, rectangular sticks, and spherical "pearls". Pearls are the most widely available shape; sizes range from about 1 mm to 8 mm in diameter, with 2–3 mm being the most common. Flakes, sticks, and pearls must be soaked well before cooking, in order to rehydrate, absorbing water up to twice their volume. After rehydration, tapioca products become leathery and swollen. Processed tapioca is usually white, but sticks and pearls may be colored. Traditionally, the most common color applied to tapioca has been brown, but recently pastel colors have been available. Tapioca pearls are generally opaque when raw, but become translucent when cooked in boiling water. Brazil in South America, Thailand in Asia, and Nigeria in Africa are the world's largest producers of cassava. 2019 SsangYong Rexton Ultimate in-depth review, road test & competitor analysis | Auto Expert John
WHAT IS SSANGYONG? If you know nought about Ssangyong, and you’re worried about what you might be getting into, brand-wise, here’s the background briefing. Ssangyong is 65 years old. The Rexton badge has been around for 18 years, incredibly enough. And about 10 years before the first Rexton rolled off the line, back in 1991, Ssangyong jumped into bed with Mercedes-Benz. They called it a ‘technology partnership’, but I get the feeling it was a one-way flow on the tech front - I don’t think Benz lapped up too much in-house Ssangyong tech. But this alliance did give Ssangyong access to some pretty cool engines and other components. According to the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association: for 2017 Ssangyong was the fourth largest carmaker in South Korea. The hit parade goes Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea and Ssangyong. Comparative scale there: Hyundai has 66,000 employees and makes 1.7 million cars. Ssangyong has almost 5000 employees and makes 156,000 cars. That’s for 2017. So Ssangyong is about one-tenth the size of Hyundai. ____________ VALUE AND STANDARD FEATURES The value proposition is pretty compelling, compared with a Prado or a Landcruiser 200. Rexton Ultimate is mid-to-late $50s on the road here in Shitsville. Fully loaded Landcruiser is $120 grand. You could step down to the VX for about $100, and down again to the Prado Kakadu for mid-to-late $80s. I’m not suggesting that there’s rough equivalence between the ‘Cruiser and the Rexton. There isn’t. But, depending on your requirements in a vehicle, the Rexton may do the job you need, for half the cost. It’s close to the Prado Kakadu, however, on paper. Engine outputs: Very close. (Toyota with a slight edge there, but the Ssangyong is 200 kilos lighter off the bat, and it has that Benz seven-speed against the Toyota six.) Slightly more ground clearance for the Rexton (versus the Prado). Slightly longer wheelbase. 535 kilos of payload for the Prado. 727 for the Rexton - a sizeable bonus there for outback touring. Rexton also has 500 kilos more maximum tow capacity versus the Prado, and it’s $30 grand cheaper, ballpark. Plus, Rexton Ultimate is fully loaded. I won’t bore you with the list. It’s easy to download the specs - it even gets Apple and Android integrations standard, and you don’t get that with Toyota. _____________ SUSPENSION - LOCAL TUNING So here’s the current state of play on local suspension development for the Rexton: Captain’s log, star date 15 April 2019: Tim Smith tells me the Iron Man suspension dudes he commissioned to make this ride quality frown go upside-down have sent their recommendations to South Korea. They’re tweaking an Australian-spec Rexton over there now. Iron Man is also prepping a lift kit for the hardcore adventure set. Compliance testing is under way there - it’s about two months away. I’ve got bit of time for Mr Smith. He says: “Hopefully we can have a local tune by April production, with a local change for existing customers. This will cost me money, but I may absorb this into the landed cost. I need to work out a way to keep the cost low for everyone.” Gotta give Mr Smith full points on two fronts: A) It’s notoriously hard to get the factory to bother with stuff like this for low volumes, especially suspension tuning, which is typically a hard sell because it’s just not a priority in south-east Asia. And he’s probably not making a bunch of new friends back at the mother ship over this. And, B) not leaving existing customers up the creek with suspension that doesn’t work very well on our roads. This is part of what leads me to conclude the brand is serious about Australia this time around. _____________ CONCLUSION OK - so here’s the bottom line: I’d be comparing a Rexton Ultimate to a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Exceed. I never thought I’d say this … but the Ssangyong is the better looking vehicle here. Both excellent value. Very close on the, capabilities, the specs and the price. Of course, the Mitsubishi is a better known brand - but it’s facing a bit of upheaval with the integration into the Renault-Nissan black hole, and it’s basically a converted Triton ute - so not itself a world champion contender in the refinement sweepstakes. There are more unknowns with the Ssangyong - obviously. The reality of support is still unknown. I’m sure the best of intentions are currently in play. Resale value - it’s a roll of the dice, but you are enjoying a considerable saving over a Prado Kakadu, up front. So there’s that. Even with the south east Asian spec suspension you can see that the product has huge potential. I guess the challenge for Tim Smith and his team like in making the brand viable in Australia, turning it into a household name, and pumping up the volume, to be in a better negotiating position with the factory. They’re going to have to sell aggressively to succeed - because there’s no shortage of choice in this segment. Great news for you, if you’ve got cash, in a somewhat depressed new car market here in ‘Straya.
