How to Create an Awesome Slide Presentation (for Keynote or Powerpoint)

7353 ratings | 897439 views
In this episode of SPI TV, I'm going to show you how to create an awesome slide deck for your next presentation, one that captivates your audience and supports your talk, not bores people to death and puts people to sleep. I've performed dozens of presentations myself, and I take great pride in how I approach my slide deck. I'm always getting complimented on my slides, and I want the same to happen to you. Creating great slides doesn't have to be difficult, and with a few simple rules and some guidelines to follow, you'll stand out as a top presenter the next time you're on stage or presenting in front of a group. Please note that I do talk briefly about why this is important, however if you'd like -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Building an email list? It will be very useful for me. Thanks too much.
So much useless chatter. I’m not sure why you get pleasure in wasting people’s time.

I think I will make a bullet list of your points to share with co-workers :)

You used numbers for the roadmap thing in this video, can you tell me how did you do that ?
Andrew Neumann (28 days ago)
Good comments in this video. One caveat, know your audience. If you’ve got a standard approach in a company or group, then deviation from that standard runs risk. So use these ideas to modify and improve an existing approach. Don’t try and be a revolutionary to an unprepared or unreceptive audience. For instance, Japanese business people love lots of data. To eliminate that from a business presentation makes you look unreliable. Instead use things like the light box idea to help draw the eye.

People are complaining that the intro is too long, but some can’t even distinguish “to” from “too,” they shouldn’t be complaining! If they’re looking up how to do a PowerPoint they shouldn’t judge or be pointing out what they didn’t like. Learn to listen! Thanks for all the great tips!

Poor presentation bro
fartinmartin (1 month ago)
My only comment is that when I make decks at work and for presentations, people are expecting to walk away with some reference material, not just a 10 page deck with no content in it. I guess it can be different for conferences but even still.

I think You are telling template or design skill. For common users, most people don't know how to design or have to pay for the template. I recommend you to try iSlide addin, you can easily create professional presenstaion with the data and words which you want to demonstrate.

KISS - Pat shows that this formula works doesn't he? Keep. It. Simple. Stupid. (or perhaps; Keep. It. Supremely. Simple.) Too often (and I'm guilty as charged) we use too much text, use it as a crutch, then read it off the slide because we're not very confident in what we're doing, and then lose the audience. I intend to follow Pat's nine rules to the letter in future. It takes more work, and it takes more preparation, but the quality of what we present will be so much better! Thank you Pat. Great presentation. :-)

do not prescribe on key-notes, but upon the symptoms of the patient.
Vijay Kakra (5 months ago)
Suppose the patient always avoided warm things and much clothing, and wanted the cold open air, and still had a dozen key-notes, you would find every time that Calcarea would fail.

Here's a thought... Kill Rick Gaskins, curse his bloodline and burn his remains to apologize to the gods, destroy Power Point forever and never mention it to future generations in fear of shame of what godawful thing we've sustained for 25+ years and make something decent and user friendly and not this fucking BDSM atrocity.
Nenad Dickov (5 months ago)
Nothing against you Pat just hating PowerPoint deeply like many people who had to endure the agonizing experience of using it.

After 3 minuters I gave up. You just talk and talk about boring presentations and never get started. So boring!!
Pat Flynn (6 months ago)
Good luck on your presentations! If you can’t sit for 10 minutes on a proven video that could radically change your career, then go grab some coaching and go make it happen. You got this!

Doko (7 months ago)
too fast speaking :(
Pat Flynn (7 months ago)
This is a YouTube video, and it has options to help. Presentations done live and in person are structured differently and obviously you cannot slow down or speed up your hearing. So no, it's not what I'd say if I was presenting in person. Your English here in the comments is great, I think you're doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work!
Doko (7 months ago)
Great advice! is that what you people say if you're presenting? what i meant is that I, as a non english speaker, have a problem with understanding fast spoken words (like a "rapper"). Thats it. No less no more. But thanks for your answer comment.
