How do you tell the clean shirts from the dirty ones? I have two of the same white shirts and I already have this problem smh

+Matt D'Avella Just came across your channel, quality stuff, thank you. Curious why you settled on grey t-shirts instead of white (or any other colour for that matter).

You always talk about minimalism... But dude, how do I become a Minimalist? Where are resources on this topic...?
FitYetunde (7 hours ago)
Nah lmfaooo I definitely forgot you wear the same shit because your words are more informative and important lmfaoo
What´s the brand name of you t-shirt? I think it´s hard to find a good quality brand, most of them made products design to endure for a short period of time.

Hi Matt, so I’m not at the point yet of minimalism but I’m working towards it, a big one when I look at my life is my desire to run things to failure. For example, I’ll have a shirt that too beat up for work so I’ll use it as a gym shirt or whatever, this along with hiking boots, long sleeve shirts, I run into the whole thing where say my boots no longer waterproof but okay for a dry day but I need waterproof boots, so now I have two boots(one too many in my opinion) what are your thoughts on this?
lordportico (12 hours ago)
I get the advantage of it but damn, I love clothes.

I'm a chick and I wear stripes everyday, and I love it. I also have only 15 of these. The only variations are that they're in different coloured stripes but in various forms - short sleeves, sleeveless if it gets too hot, or long sleeves if the weather's cold, or the stripes are thin or thick, or against a different background fabric - white stripes on maroon, red stripes on navy, etc. I don't look at or buy anything else, and my mind's clearer somehow (can't explain it), I don't second guess my wardrobe decisions, I just pick a striped whatever and pop it on, and NOBODY even notices that I wear stripes everyday. Nobody. People really, really, don't care, and that's exactly what I want. LOL

THIS IS THE 1000TH COMMENT! Great video! Really thinking of downsizing my wardrobe - it's so difficult to choose outfits with too many combinations which don't always match.

I'm a female citizen of Switzerland. The weather changes approximately every 3 hours and I'm riding a bike to high school every day. This is what makes it difficult for me to size down my wardrobe. At the moment I only own clothes I love and which I can combine in countless ways. Most of the items are handed down, so it doesn't hurt to throw them out. Still, I would love to be able to layer stuff up and look a bit trendier which is nearly impossible due to my bike :') Furthermore, we do not have big thrift shops which is quite annoying..
QCube (4 days ago)
I think as long as the cloths are always clean and don't smell or something, noone will have a problem with you wearing the same. A colleague of mine weared the exact same t shirt very often but It had a big hole somewhere on the back so I told him that. I recognized that he bought some new clothes a few days ago right away as well, even though I'm not into fashion or something. I even think that always wearing the same good looking stuff will lead to people focusing on your person and respecting you more. I personally like wearing different t shirts and I would stick to that but even then, I know I could get rid of quite some stuff in my closet without feeling any need afterwards...

When I was younger probably in college I will consider you boring and has no sense of style, but now whats truly important is not your clothing or style of dressing it's about your character like are you kind, level headed, caring, and more positive traits. If I am your true friend I will tell you get at least different color of shirts not the same color.Black, navy, and grey colors are great.

Hello Mr. Matt! Your videos have been excellent reminders for me & it's nice to see someone who takes de-cluttering to the next level. I have gotten so much inspiration watching your videos. I have always had an easy time giving away clothes, books etc. One area that I seem to have the hardest time with is certain types of paperwork like bills & now I am finding most of my clutter is in my electronics.

For everyone who's struggling with a simple wardrobe: it's okay. You don't have to have one if it doesn't feel right. I tried project 333 and I didn't like it. I lived for 3 months with only 8 pieces of clothing and it bored me. So I stoped. Because the point is to live a life that feels right to you. Clothes are for me a way to express myself. I can feel sexy, flirty, cute, elegant, athletic, powerful, etc. based on the things I wear. Sometimes I wanna wear black from head to toe and sometimes I like to be very colorful. Sometimes I wanna be able to dance in the streets and sometimes I enjoy the sound of my heels on the pavement. You can own more clothes than the average minimalist and still be a minimalist yourself.
What did you do to the clothes you had before????
I do it to cover my ass. Let me explain. If I was pulled over or arrested and charge with a crime my lawyer would tell the judge or district attorney my client possibly couldn't have done it as he only wears grey shirts and not white and all charges would be dropped. If charges still weren't dropped the jury will acquit base on that hopefully. If dirty cops would to plant evidence in a red jacket I don't own. My lawyer would say he only own grey stuff. He hates red and all colors and has no color in his whole house besides grey so that jacket can't possibly belong to him you damn crooked cops.

Urgh, I'm painfully inspired by the minimalist approach to everything. Most of your videos are covering all these things I don't do that I should be doing to enjoy life more. Which is indeed awesome and encouraging, but then I realize I'm basically a huge turd. It's the online equivalent of going to a Baptist revival.

"I bought 15 of the same exact T-shirt." 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??? WTF! The U.S. has always been on a complete different level than the rest of the world when it comes to consumerism ...
Olivia (11 days ago)
As a girl I feel like you have to defend yourself more. I honestly couldn’t care less about clothes and really wants to where the same thing every single day. As of right now I own two pairs of jeans and a few shirts and I’ve noticed that I tend to switch between the two jeans every day to avoid people commenting...
Akatash (11 days ago)
If you start to spend less money/time on clothing you will have more for other things - like travelling, books, personal gym trainer ...or chocolate <3

I've been doing minimalist clothing since the 90's. I'm short and can never find my size. I really hate shopping for clothes so once I find something that fits me I buy 7 tops like crewnecks in 7 different colors and 7 black khakis and that's what I wore as my office uniform everyday. I luv it because it saves me time and money. I didn't care what people though. I figure if a guy can wear shirts and khakis to the office everyday I don't see why as a woman I couldn't do the same.

I am not a true minimalist but I simply no longer buy items I don't need. I have a small closet and a dresser and I use all my things. I don't own anything that I don't wear regularly (only one dress that I keep for special occasions like weddings or ceremonies and it was worn just a couple of times). If I am tired of some piece of clothing, I sell it or swap it or give it away. I repair damaged items and transform clothes that no longer fit well (a dress can become a skirt, a blouse can become a top, a collar can be sewn on or removed). I also use the 1 for 1 method: before I buy, for instance, a new skirt, I get rid of a skirt. It's so nice because the lack of clutter helps me concentrate and make me feel really serene. I always know what to wear and it is so easy to prepare in the morning.

Yo that first one happened to me. I'm cheap so I'd been wearing the same 5 t-shirts for about a year. My mom had been nagging me to get new shirts for months so I got 3 cheap t-shirts at H&m. Wore a plain simple black t-shirt and 3 people told me I looked good in that shirt the next day at work. I was like huh? It's just a regular shirt
Mathew (15 days ago)
Brought 15 new Shirts! WTF i thought you said you were a minimalist...
Blonde Con (15 days ago)
For a t shirt and jeans look it's easy to wear everyday I work in an office and you have to look nice I wear the black pants all the time but I do a different top
I get compliments on my clothing everyday. It feels good. Variety is good in life. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing. You keep doing you, buddy.

Blessed In Bowie (15 days ago)
While, yes, I did notice that you wear the same thing in every video, I never thought much about it--lots of people have a specific outfit to wear for specific things. The only thing that really comes to mind when I watch your videos is that you always look neat, well groomed (not fussy), and professional. I am more interested in what you have to say, and the simplicity of your clothing helps me to pay attention more.

I love minimalism, but I personally wouldn't want the same clothes in my drawer everyday because idk ig I love picking out my clothes and combining them and styling them. I use it as a way of expression and self care - I don't really worry or get stressed about it, and I dress for myself, and I love doing it!

Marred Protean (16 days ago)
It's a lot more difficult for us ladies to dress this simple, because we're constantly picking each other apart. I've noticed this at work. Guy's basically have their own "uniform", but we're have to have at least a few different outfits or we risk coming off as filthy amongst each other. Wildly enough though, secretly we all want to be this simple.
Marred Protean (14 days ago)
+Ian Clotworthy I definitely agree. In fact, I'm steadily shrinking my closet, because I'm so inspired. So hopefully I will be able to wear the same thing everyday soon. :)
Ian Clotworthy (15 days ago)
then it just takes someone with courage to take the plunge: you! First the others may laugh, then they'll join you.
Michelle Boyer (16 days ago)
My company started uniforms. Thought I would hate it but it turns out I love not thinking about what I am wearing day to day. Having said that, it is funny to be in a meeting and have everyone in the room wearing the same uniform with only minor differences.
Nate (16 days ago)
how is buying 15 new shirts minimalism? I tried to wear my old clothes for as long as possible, I don't care what they look like.
Real Mature Makeup (16 days ago)
I’ve never been a clothes addict. If I find a shirt or skirt I like I buy it in all colors. So it looks like a different outfit but it’s really the same.

Psilocybology (17 days ago)
A while back I bought 5 of the same outfit to wear to work. It was the best decision I could have made. Having to pick out what to wear each day was draining and at times frustrating. I've been happy having a consistent outfit that always feels comfortable and always looks sharp.

Since you are a minimalist, why don't you shoot with one camera and a single lens?
Aislinn Graves (17 days ago)
I would be bored out of my ever loving mind!
James Hicks (17 days ago)
Totally by accident, because I just like the way they look and fit on me, I wear the same 3 shirts and 1 pair of pants and 1 pair of shorts out side of work. A Baseball tee, that has a 3 buttons, a baseball tee that doesn't have buttons, and this black long sleeve shirt with 3 buttons (no collar). Usually wear the baseball tees when going out and doing casual stuff. The black shirt is my 'i wan to look nicer' shirt, and I'll go to parties or to shows with that one. For work, I also wear the same 3 individual shirts(my monday, tuesday, wednesday shirts as I see them) and 2 pants. I will probably replace the shirts but I'll never have more than those. Def keeps things super simple to not think about that and to also not even have to think of being tempted by buying clothes. I had heard or read this idea (i think from the Financial Diet) of spending money on things you care about and for everything else, get the cheap stuff or don't buy it at all. So I don't care much about clothes (as long as they don't have holes and still fit me in a way I like) but I do care about books and cooking so I'll spend a money on those and wont bat an eye. Love this video.

Della Blair (18 days ago)
Hey Matt, I just commented on another of your vids re Black Friday where I mentioned returning to the UK from a trip to NYC. I've been heading towards minimalism for some time now but since August this year I've properly engaged with this approach and through selling a portion of what I no longer needed actually paid for my NYC trip and spending money (which actually went on eating out, rather than buying crap) I've still got lots more to sell / re-gift / donate but I'm on it. The process of identifying what I really need has been the key to my success.

Where did you bougth the 15 t shirts?
Eevee Love (18 days ago)
I've followed this style of dressing simply since high school. I'm 29 now, a teacher, and I have outfits that are similar and simple. Mornings are easy. When I was in high school girls would say that I wore the same clothes every day. I didn't, but they didn't know that; only my closest friends and family knew. I have always been minimalist, I simply didn't know until a few peers pointed it out.
Rey Bmore (18 days ago)

Sorry, but I like to look a good bit better than just "lacking offense". LOL! If this works for you, that's great, but I am retired and still dress well most of the time. I have a lot of nice clothes left over from my government career, so might as well use them. Plus it does make my day better. I feel better about myself, and the people I encounter react differently. I like when a boy tells me I look "like a rich businessman", or get a job offer because I looked good just walking in the store. Again, it's whatever works best for each person. If my clothes ever run out, I'd like to try for a bit more minimalism. Maybe one day...
