The presentation was composed around dinghy sailors, specifically those from CBI, but will be enlightening for any sailors who haven't yet skippered a bareboat charter or two. Definitely you can learn a lot about sailing from books, especially if you're used to studying. I did when I first went on a course. Learn about the names of all the things on a boat, true wind, apparent wind, points of sail, how a boat can go upwind. Learn about stearing and propwalk and study all the different docking situations. Then when the instructor explains it you'll have aha-moments and then when you first try it you'll probably understand what you're doing and learn much more from the experience. Also because you've all ready studied everything, the you'll have much more time to practise, because the instructor doesn't have to go back and explain everything twice or triple.
