Looking for help finding air-tight storage for my bf's Magic collection. He currently uses the corrugated cardboard boxes for storing as he frequently like to access them for deck building and such. He has somewhere between 250k-300k cards (maybe more?), so larger accessible storage is preferred. The issue he has (I have) is around air quality and maintaining the integrity of the cards (His gf likes to smoke pot inside and then gets a big talking to about how it can cause harm to the cards long term) so I'm looking for air tight compartments that can solve some issues with this and bring sanity back to the home ;)

I have a request for a video: these cases are nice, but what about large home storage? I remember you did a video on something like this before, but I’ve been searching the internets for a really nice cabinet to store my collection. It seems that old card catalog cabinets (like in the old days of libraries) looks like a good choice, I was wondering about your opinion.

I actually purchased the A4 and have been very happy with it so far. I put all of my cards in deck boxes though because I don't like to leave my cards loose when transporting them. For me it is very secure and I have not had any issues with the lining coming undone. I do wish there was more options to customize the inside but I've fit 7 Deck boxes with commander decks in it, and a case for tokens and dice without any issues. Overall I'm happy with it and I chose to get the A4 over the A3 because with the A3, deck boxes will not fit in the lower section only in the upper. So it didn't fit what I was looking for.

Saito Kaiba.........SETO....SET-O....lol. Also no travel test for the last one, and as others have said The last one is most likely Yu-gi-oh based. I could probablly fit my yugioh cards in better then my magic although without deck boxes the magic cards seem fine. What was the rating system based on? (Price, security, durability, flexibility, etc?) Or is it just based on personal opinion?

I heard KakaPopo is gone now? There any other options? I was planning on using some tool cases (look similar to the A4, but with customizable foam cubes as well) from Harbor Freight, but had to give it to someone else before I could see if it works.. :/

they seriously failed at Kaiba's brief case? that's disappointing as a yugioh player.

CosmicCum (1 year ago)
For the first test it may have been a better test of the velcro partitions to not fill it fully otherwise there is little to no room for them to become dislodged and many of us won't fully fill these cases. Otherwise love your content as someone returning to MTG and your intellectual approach to your videos is great!
A Buff Croissant (1 year ago)
Will The ultimate guard monoliths fit in the case with the dice tray on, or do you have to remove the tray before putting it in? I tried to look up the dimensions of the deck boxes but the measurements are way off.

Do you think it's more important to keep your decks built and on hand or to keep your cards organized in a binder?

Richard Coghlan (1 year ago)
Prof, do you think that the A3 would accomodate as much as 1500 single-sleeved cards in Dragon Shield mattes? Have a commander cube, and the A3 looks to be the ideal size for containing said cube.
Yes, so long as they are single sleeved.
Nicholas de Paola (1 year ago)
if the A3 was full when you were shaking it, why would you expect anything to move? A much better test would be to fill half of the case using the dividers, give it a rigorous shake and see if the dividers detach when they have room to move
A Guy (1 year ago)
He said in the video that the inner lined Velcro would move if it was not filled.

Can u do more cases
Justin Jacobs (1 year ago)
Professor, you are a treasure.
VSVadeSatana (1 year ago)
each of these cases you can buy at a Harbor Freight or any other tool store/isle. These types of cases are just re-purposed with some different padding (which you can easily add and modify yourself). KaKaPoPo here is just slapping a new names on them and targeting a different audience. You should really add to your Test/Review a quick rundown of something similar you can get especially when it comes to such a generic item as a briefcase.
A Guy (1 year ago)
That's fair, all I'm saying is some people don't have the time and are willing to spend the money for already made goods. "Why buy bread from the grocery store when people can make it themselves" is kind of the point here. Sure there are some people that want to buy the ingredients, roll the dough, and bake the bread, that's fine. But people who want to bake bread go out and find recipes, same thing for making a box for storing a magic the gathering cube. Time was specifically my point but if people have the time, go ahead and build a case for your cube.
VSVadeSatana (1 year ago)
A Guy - I just want to say I said modify not build a box. Thats two different things. Putting in your own egg crate padding is rather simple. You can save money by doing things like this. Its not for everyone just an option. Some people like to do little projects.
A Guy (1 year ago)
That's fair, but who is gonna go through all the effort to find some way to secure their cards in an open box? You need to buy materials, find the proper tools, decide on how your gonna modify the box, Then you need to find the time to modify the box. That time bit is really important, because busy people don't have the time to modify a box. Sure you can make yourself, but why take the time to test your newly made box, tinker with it some more if you didn't get it right, rinse repeat, (and hope to god you don't break the box). You don't seem to get that there are people who are busy, ignorant, and just straight up dumb. This video, plus the convenience of the box is necessary. Prof tested, viewer approved.

grimgun100 (1 year ago)
Why not use a pistol gun case? I know you can only use it with deck boxes most of the time but they work and very tough. Plus cheap for what I'm seeing with some these gaming cases.

This was a very informative video. I may look into the A3. Thank you for making these reviews. I was wondering if you plan on doing another review on sleeves and include Dragon Shield Matte sleeves instead of the gloss.
Michael Palmer (1 year ago)
A4 is very!! similar to This case (link below) for $27 from a hardware store. It is bigger but lacks the egg shell foam top, which is a nonissue for me because i turned around the tool holder and it is now flat. I have this and because of it I refuse to purchase from this company ($$). I also agree with prof that the variable dividers are lacking and I use a I= formation to fit my small cube (terricube) to the left of the I and extra boxes to the right. A BCW card box also works for a small cube and I'd recommend that over this or the huge one I have, unless you do want to haul around a ton different deck options like a Cube and commander AND other decks. https://www.harborfreight.com/tool-storage/tool-boxes/18-in-x-6-in-x-13-in-black-aluminum-case-62271.html
Ian Grasamkee-Beasley (1 year ago)
So I have gone through many different carrying cases, as I do lots and lots of traveling, and like to have my cards with me. After mainly failed products that are designed for this, I keep going back to my old main, which is a large Stanley FatMax tool organizer. It comes with several different layouts of plastic containers, which each hold exactly 110 double sleeve cards. There are multiple versions with varying sizes. I will provide links to the versions I use. Both versions are incredibly strong, made from very thick, but slightly flexible plastic, that makes these boxes basically immune to damage from average use. I'm a big guy, over 200 pounds, and I can jump up and down on top of both of these without even cracking the lids. I have been able to break them, but only by stacking over 300 pounds onto them, and it was only the hinges that broke. I use camera foam slotted into the tops of each compartment to keep each deck secure. The one and only problem with them, is that the case it's self is somewhat heavy, weighing about 6 pounds for the big one, and about 4 for the small one, and when full loaded with the 1800 cards it can hold, the large version is quite heavy for carrying any significant distance. But the smaller version which only holds about 1000 cards is just perfect for taking decks to a FNM. I would highly recommend that people have a look at these. If I were the professor, I would give the large one a rating of A-, and the small one an A. https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-014461M-Fatmax-Organizer-Professional/dp/B004G5Y7YK https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Fatmax-FMST14820-FatMax-Organizer/dp/B008J2IQ34/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496263373&sr=8-1&keywords=fatmax+tool+organizer

Are you going to do a deck tech of what to turn leovold edh decks into?
A Guy (1 year ago)
The whole deck was centered around Leovold locking people out of the game with some key cards. If you replace those key cards you can basically turn the deck into whatever you wanted for those 3 colors, add a bit of an adjustment and viola! I guess you could turn it into a highlander deck if you really wanted, just keep Leovold, add white for Eladamri's Call and some removal (path to exile), throw in a birthing pod and vampiric/and/or demonic tutor, take out commander specific cards, your deck should operate fine without Leovold being there for the early/mid game without the tutors, you can also sift through your deck with the wheel spells to find major combo pieces. Its not that hard to reconfigure. Try it out and find some cards online. Good luck!

Just so everyone knows, you can get that EXACT SAME A4 case at Harbor Freight with a bunch of extra foam and organizers and a strap for like $25-30 bucks. Its literally the exact same case. I have one I use for cards and one for microphones for work. So if you dont care about the little logo on it, just buy the harbor freight one! Prof I hope you see this so you can let people know!

Benjamin Klahn (1 year ago)
Great review prof but you missed one major thing that I think is the most stressful thing you could submit these to that would be realistic. You didn't sit on them. Or at least place something heavy on them, know what I mean? I would think that during transit these might be thrown in the back seat of a car and other players cards put on top. Will the thin outer wall bend under substantial weight?
StalkingPanda96 (1 year ago)
the lid seems to rest vertically while open on the kakapopo cases. do they have a problem with bending out or shape or warping?

The A4 should be an F. Are they paying you off for this review?
Zael Slyte (27 days ago)
You should see the cases he's failed. They are much, much worse than this, and are often outright scams.

Why wasn't there a test of the last suitcase? I'd like to see that to see if the middle slides would hold up without another full side. @Tolarian Community Colledge
WillieTannerBuilds (1 year ago)
Looking at the two cases with fixed separators it looks like these separators are attached with L brackets and screws... This automatically gets an F from me as any card that is pressed up against this will get damaged.

Gem Of Magic (1 year ago)
I like the look of the Kaiba and the A3, for storing cards at home and taking to friends houses. What I would REALLY like would be more briefcase design choices. I know the briefcase is designed to be sturdy, but could they also put a leather layer over the top to give it a vintage briefcase look? That'd be super cool. I like my card collection to look less fancy/modern with that stainless steel look.

I keep hoping to see a partitioned/compartmentalized rolling suitcase option. Sometimes I like to show up to my LGS with 10 or more EDH decks. These decks are in a mix of Ultimate Guard Monoliths, UltraPro Towers, REP Steel, and 1 Wyrmwood Tower. Right now I use a reinforced duffel bag with a dead company's logo on it. Needed the room for playmat, accessories, snacks, and other random brick-a-brack.
Aran Cox (1 year ago)
I really like the KMC Card Box 1000 when combined with rigid plastic card dividers (I bought some BCW brand and usually have to trim them down depending on what I'm putting them in.) The other thing I use a ton of are the foam dividers for padding out all kinds of boxes that aren't full. Again BCW makes them and calls them Monster Pads. The Card Box 1000 isn't really like the products reviewed here, at least not exactly as they don't have handles, you can't put deck boxes in them, you can't move the dividers... but they are so great for those cards that are between bulk that belong in a cardboard box and valuable cards you might put in a binder. For instance, I put cheap mana rocks, lands commonly played in commander, matched basic lands, and other inexpensive staples.
A Guy (1 year ago)
*For the people who are asking to not fill up the cases completely for the dividers on any of the cases in question, Read this comment before commenting to ask.* What's the point of the box if not to fill it up with cards? The design of the box is to hold a 1000 card cube with the *utility* of transportation, its not meant to be taken everywhere. If you're so concerned about not having enough cards or deck boxes to fill up the case then find another more secure option. I would recommend Pirate labs for deck transporting/ or cube transport and storing needs. P.S. The Kaiba case is merely a name with a bit of exterior design, its not actually meant for yugioh cards, simply because yugioh cards are smaller than MTG cards. I should know, I dropped out of yugioh.
A Guy (1 year ago)
That and at 4:22 The Professor even said that if he was to put 1 or 2 decks into the box the dividers *WILL* pop out of place.

11:16 why does this say A4 I thought it was Kaiba's briefcase
Brent Buchanan (1 year ago)
The A4 uses a old design for interior dividers. This was standard for instrument packing (camera gear, precision tools, etc...) before pick-and-pluck foam came on the market in the 80's. It's stable, but breaks down after multiple changes.
Cody Niles (1 year ago)
I don't think anyone in their right mind will want to carry a fucking briefcase of cards around, regardless of how convenient or how great it is at protecting the cards...
Gem Of Magic (1 year ago)
Cody Niles why do you say that? what is bad about it? Briefcases are cool!
Mrtfarrugia (1 year ago)
I believe it is a KIABA!!!! briefcase.
